Classic Christianity – Meaningless or Meaningful – Part 2 – 7-29-25

Meaningless or Meaningful – Part 2

~ John replied, “A man can receive only what is given him from heaven. You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Christ, but am sent ahead of Him.’ The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom stands and listens for him, and is overjoyed to hear the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. He must increase; I must decrease. John 3:27-30

“He [Jesus], must Increase, I must decrease,” is what John the baptizer said. Yet today, most people want to have an increase in stature themselves and not even mention Jesus. And most never give a thought about Jesus. They would rather go about their daily lives, of going to work, coming home, watching tell-a-vision, and then repeat the same process over and over again, and have no true meaning and purpose in life. Having a relationship with God Himself means nothing to most. And most are feeling empty inside, because they indeed are empty inside. For they do not have the Spirit of God living in them.

Folks, when a person is in Christ Jesus, He is going to give you meaning and purpose to Life. As a child of God, we make ourselves available to be used by Him, for the purpose of sharing TRUTH. It’s not about us. It’s about Him, Jesus is the Way, the TRUTH and the Life. No one comes to the Father except by Him. Seek and you shall find. Ask Him to show Truth to you today. And once you have TRUTH living inside of you for LIFE, then the Wisdom of God will begin to flow out of you when you abide in Him. Listen to the Holy Spirit, for He is talking to you, and He has much to say.

For if you are in Christ then He Lives in you right this very moment in time. He made you the temple of God. And we who are children of God are ALL God’s temple. So, allow the Holy Spirit to use you as He wants, and don’t prop yourself up, getting conceited. For He must increase, and we must decrease…

…..

And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone.

~ “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12

~ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one believing in Me, even if he should die, he will live. And everyone living and believing in Me shall never die, to the age. Do you believe this?” John 11:25,26

Pray to God:

Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ Bob George discusses the importance of maturity and wisdom in young people, emphasizing the need to transition from childish thinking to adult responsibility. He references King Solomon’s search for meaning, highlighting that wisdom and knowledge, despite their benefits, are ultimately meaningless without a relationship with God. Bob mentions that pleasure, wealth, and power are fleeting and do not bring lasting happiness. He concludes that true meaning and purpose in life can only be found through a relationship with Jesus Christ, as Solomon’s wisdom ultimately revealed the vanity of worldly pursuits.

~ “Guys do you know how short lived again your memory is? You know, I have people who live so they can, they can have an inheritance or have a legacy. That’s the word legacy. I want to I want to have a legacy. I want to be remembered. Lots of luck. Half the people didn’t remember what you said 15 minutes ago. Gonna build a legacy. Gonna build till I I Big old me will be remembered. You. My friends. You know what it says, You’re not going to be remembered that long. You know when my dad died, there was grief, heartache, tears, all of those things. Today I’m not crying over my dad’s death or grieving over it’s been dead over 20 years. It’s kind of just vaguely remembered, remembered, but kind of vaguely remembered. So guys, the issue is, what are you doing now? Do you see why Jesus said live a day at a time. Forget about living to be remembered. Live today, to love.” ~ Bob George

Bob George 0:28
Folks, I want as a child to learn to be accepted by adults. Any idiot will accept you as a kid. All you got to do anymore is wear your pants down so you got all cracked up. Wear your hair a certain way, and these idiots will accept you, but an adult WON’T YOU. So you go do something as a young person. You go to court. You know, the first thing the attorney’s going to tell you, if you’re going to appear before a court of law, cut your hair, pull your pants up, and get dressed up like an adult, because if you don’t, you’re going to be judged by adults, not by kids adults. Adults don’t like the way you look kids. I don’t care. I will look like a kid. Well, go ahead, but you’re not going to be accepted by adults. So we need to train our youth to grow up, to start thinking like an adult, not like a kid, like an adult, because that’s who you’re going to be judged by for the rest of your life. Not going to be very long as a child, as a young person sitting in this room today, that you’re going to be out on your own very few years. I don’t care how old you are, just a very few years, you’re going to be out in the world. That’s why the Bible says to put aside childish thinking and grow up start thinking with wisdom. As a child you can think with God’s wisdom as a child. There are many kids that I know that have more wisdom than adults that I know.

Now let’s turn together to some wisdom in Ecclesiastes. Kind of turn to the center of your Bible and go right. That’s right after Proverbs, and you’ll find Ecclesiastes Now, folks, this instruction from Solomon came from a man who sought wisdom from God. That was his first prayer, wisdom, Lord, I want wisdom above all things. And again, God gave him wisdom. And in the meantime, the things that Solomon sought were everything, it seems, apart from wisdom. I mean, the things that he did were not wise, but he learned that they weren’t wise, and that sometimes is important for us to learn that this was not wise decisions, but this was the most powerful man, probably that ever lived, and probably one of the most wealthy men that ever lived, King Solomon, he had it all, and yet he had nothing. That’s what my dad said boys, all the things that I thought were so important in life place such great emphasis in are meaningless when you’re dying of cancer, meaningless. Solomon learned that he said the words of the Teacher, son of David, the King of Jerusalem, meaningless. Meaningless. Vanity. Vanity, says the teacher utterly meaningless. Everything is meaningless. Now, guys, this is not going to be preached in a positive thinking clinic. I don’t believe you’re going to hear Robert Schuller preaching this message, or Zig Ziglar, or any of the other positive thinker, it’s not, they’re not going to do that. But you see, God never told us to think positive. He told us to think realistically. What is realistic? What is realistic Solomon is saying, and we’ve learned, is, you’re going to die someday. That’s what realistic is. I don’t care how successful you are. I don’t care how talented you are. I don’t care how smart you think you are. One of these days, you’re going to be dead as a hammer, and so am I. Is that right or wrong? You go by a graveyard and look over it and say, That’s my destiny, I’m going to own an underground condominium there. That’s where you’re going. All of us, all of us, all of us. So what’s the purpose of being here? A lot many people are asking that question. Well, then why am I here? That’s where people get hopeless. Why am I here? That’s what happened to me in my life. Is, is this all life is, is getting up the morning and working your tail off and making some money so you can go bed at night and go to sleep and get up the next morning, make some more money, work your tail off to go to bed at night, get up the next day and work. Is that all there is, Lord, and that was my prayer was, what’s it all about Alfie? Not a real religious prayer, but that was my prayer to God. What’s it all about Alfie? What’s it all about? There’s got to be more to life than this. But I didn’t have wisdom. Why? I didn’t have the Lord, you. I didn’t have the Lord. My friends, you will never find meaning and purpose to this life down here until you find Jesus. Never, never will there ever be meaning and purpose to life, until you have a relationship with God and walk in that relationship. Does that mean that you’re never going to fall down? Well, did Solomon leave a perfect life? Nobody never forgot God. In the midst of all of the things that Solomon did, he never forgot God, and God never forgot him, but you’re never going to have meaning and purpose to life until your life is centered in the center of this universe. And it’s not you, it’s him.

Meaningless. Everything is meaningless. What does it gain a man from all of his labor at which he toils under the sun? Generations come, generations go, but the earth remains forever. The sun rises and the sun sets and hurries back to where it rises. The wind blows to the south and turns to the north, and round and round it goes, ever returning on its course, all streams flow into the sea, and yet the sea is never full. Have you ever wondered, you all been at the ocean? Have you ever wondered how this huge ocean stops at the shore? Have you ever wondered that, what stops it? What stops it? Why does it stop at that beach so that I can walk on it? I don’t know. Maybe God, maybe God.

I say, why doesn’t this government save itself billions of dollars and just read the Bible, send them a $20 Bible and save billions of dollars of research. What are you going to do when you figure it out? Folks, do you understand the fact you can’t even figure you out? We’re out trying to change the world. You can’t even change your family. Am I right or wrong? You can’t even change your wife. How do you think you’re going to change the world? You may be the best communicator in the world to the world, your wife doesn’t give a flip about what you say. She’s not impressed. You may be the smartest thing in the world at work, but a dumb clock at home. Am I right or wrong? You can’t even change your mate, let alone the world. I joined a Christian organization years ago to help come help change the world. It’s changed, all right? It’s gotten worse. You’re not going to change anything. Only God can change people. You can’t change anybody. Can’t even change yourself. Can you? How many of you said, I wish I was different? Well, man, if you wish you were different, you’d be different. You can’t even change it.

So he’s coming along and saying to us that guys, these streams, they didn’t return again. All things in verse eight are wearisome, more than one can say. The eye has never had enough of sin. We just can’t see enough, nor the ear filled, filled of hearing, what has been will be again. That’s one thing we know. What has been will be done again. There’s nothing new under the sun. We think there’s something new. There’s a new thing new under the sun. Do you think guys, that we mankind, was any different 1000 years ago than we are today? Any different? You think so? Do you think men were any different than where men are dead today? Do you think women way different? No. Think women, if they had a place to go, like to shop 1000 years ago? Nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say, Look, this is something new. It was already here a long time ago. It was here before our time. There is no remembrance of men of old, and even those who are yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow.

Guys do you know how short lived again your memory is? Live today, to love.

Bob George 14:34
Young people, you do a loving thing when you listen to your parents. Why? It was made that way. God gave you parents to guide you. Why? Because when you’re young, you need guidance. You know a kid that doesn’t know he’ll run right into that ocean if you let him, wouldn’t you? I mean, that’s why parents are out there tenaciously watching their kids. Why? Because the little morons will run right into the ocean and drown, get a kid close to an edge, fall over. That’s why you need guidance. That’s the role of a parent, is to guide a child until he’s old enough to think on his own. And again, I think the guidance is to teach them to be a good adult, to teach them how to live responsibly. You’re not walking in love when you’re disobeying your parents. You’re not walking in love when you’re doing things that hurt your parents. That’s not love, and there’s your problem is you haven’t grown up enough to understand the importance of what God says that the only thing that matters, all this other stuff isn’t going to matter. I don’t care what your achievements are. What God says that the only thing that counts, remember study that last week is what faith expressing itself through what? Love, loving one another doing things that are loving, doing unto others as you would want others to do unto you. I’ve asked young people sometimes, do you think when you grow up you’re going to have kids? Yeah. Would you like to have kids? Yeah. What if your kid was doing what you’re doing? What would you do? Beat them to death. That’s probably true. Probably true.

I teacher was king over Israel and Jerusalem. I about the highest position you can get into. I devoted myself to study. There are some people who think, well, I’ll find it through study, and I’m going to explore by wisdom, all that is done under heaven. In other words, I’m going to take a look at all the things that are done on this earth and explore what is the wisdom of it. It’s that’s my assignment. I’m going to observe all of the things that are going on and then observe what’s causing them, what’s bringing those about. What a heavy burden God has laid on men. He said, I have seen all the things that are done under the sun. He said, I’ve seen it all. All of them are meaningless, chasing after the wind. What a twist twisted. What is twisted cannot be straightened, and what is lacking cannot be counted.

My friends, as a thinking person, we have to start thinking that there are repercussions to our actions, and sometimes these repercussions are pretty severe. I remember a number of years ago that I visited the jail with Dr Eric Criswell, who was the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Dallas for a number of years, and we visited a young boy whose parents were Christians. He was Jewish by natural birth, became a born again believer and his wife, and they had these children, and this boy was in jail. He was in jail for using drugs and selling drugs. That’s what happens to you as a child, that you think this is fun, but you’re going to be judged by adults. You may think it’s fun and get laughed at by kids, but adults are going to put you in jail, and you live in an adult world. You don’t live in a kid world. When it comes to punishment, you live in an adult world. An adult world don’t think you’re cute, so they’re going to put you in jail. And Bobby was in jail. It’s a sad thing to see a kid that you taught in Sunday school and who claimed to know the Lord sitting in jail like an animal caged, like a bird in a cage, caged behind bars, in some cases, allowed to be free an hour a day shower with all the rest of the guys who are looking out after you see. Sexually abused in jail. I remember leaving the jail that day with Dr Criswell, and in His way of saying to me, the way of the Transgressor is hard, and that’s true, the way of the Transgressor is hard. Why? Your punishment isn’t going to come from kids who laughed you into trouble. It’s going to come from adults who don’t think you’re cute. The way of the Transgressor is hard. There’s consequences to your actions, and we have to learn that. That’s something that young people have to learn. Old ones have to learn as well. There’s consequences to our actions. Now, if we thought through that every time, we probably would do very little wrong, but we don’t. Why? Because we’re idiots. Solomon doesn’t say that in those words, but he does indicate it that we’re not that bright. Why? Because we don’t think through the consequences to our actions, and there’s very few things that what we do that don’t have consequences to them, and those things need to be taught to our youth, because you’re not going to live in a kid’s world very long. You’re going to be living in an adult world, and you better learn how adults how adults think and how adults deal with transgression.

What is twisted cannot be strengthened. You can’t change it. What’s lacking can’t be counted. I thought to myself, look, I have grown and increased in wisdom more than anyone else who has ever ruled over Jerusalem before me. I’ve experienced much of wisdom and knowledge. There are people who’ve experienced a lot of knowledge, they’ve gone to school, they’ve gotten a lot of teaching, he said, but I want to guarantee you haven’t even touched what Solomon had. Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom. So he said, I not only studied about wisdom, but I’ve applied myself to the understanding of wisdom. In other words, I not just want to know about something, but I want to experience what this wisdom is, and also of the madness of folly. But I learned that this, too is the chasing after the wind. For with much wisdom comes much sorrow, and the more knowledge, the more grief, the more knowledgeable and intelligent our scientific community has become, the more atomic bombs we have built to blow the daylights out of one another. That’s how brilliant we are. Our scientific world has become so smart that we’ve learned how to destroy humanity.

I thought, with my heart, come now and I’ll test you with pleasure and find out what is good. That’s the bigger temptation, pleasure, and that also proved to be meaningless. Laughter, I said, is foolish, and what does pleasure accomplish? I tried sharing myself up with wine and embracing folly. My mind still guiding me with wisdom. My mind was still guiding me with wisdom, but I was trying to get drunk be happy. Now what was he learning? It doesn’t work. I wanted to see what was worthwhile for men to do under heaven during the few days of their lives. My friends, you seek pleasure. You seek sexual pleasure. You seek pleasure in perverting your mind with alcohol, and in this day and age with drugs, it’s insanity to think that’s going to bring you happiness. It doesn’t bring you happiness at all. Person goes out, gets smashed, get drunk, wake up the next day with a happy hangover. You kidding? Can’t even walk, can’t even think, that oh, boy, did I have fun last night. You go out and seek sex. After a moment of pleasure, you’re ready to go home and to the dumb girl who’s sitting there thinking this guy’s in love with me. That’s crazy. If he’s in love with you, he’ll wait. And if you loved her, you would wait. Am I right or wrong? Because you see that pleasure is very, very fleeting. Comes today, gone tomorrow, very fleeting. All of it’s fleeting. That’s what he’s saying. All this stuff that you’re chasing is meaningless. It’s all temporary. For a temporary fix, you’ll ruin your life, stupidity. But do we do it? Yeah, for a temporary fix, we will absolutely ruin our entire life because it doesn’t last. If it lasted, you doing. Have do it again. Do it once, take care of it. It’s fleeting, fleeting, fleeting, not worth it.

I thought, with my heart Come now, I’ll test you with pleasure and find out what’s good said, it proved to be meaningless. Laughter is foolish. Why is that? Well, because people will laugh you into hell, but they won’t laugh you out of it. Nothing wrong with joy. Joy comes from the Lord. But there’s a lot of stuff that we can do that’ll make you laugh, but it’ll also send you to jail. Got to have wisdom to know just how funny you want to be. I used to live for laughter. That was my big thing as a lost person, was to sit around my buddies and telling these jokes always clean. You understand, these jokes. And everybody died laughing at me and thought I was the funniest thing I’d ever come down to Pike, and I just sat there, just smug as could be. And he loved me. They loved me. Then I became a Christian, didn’t tell dirty jokes anymore, and I lost all my friends. That’s how fleeting it is. Fleeting they like you if you’re doing what I want you to do, and if you don’t, you’re a goner. So just accept that. What do you do? Get new friends. That’s what you do. You go get new friends, because your old ones will laugh you into hell. But as I say, they will not laugh you out of it.

Now he said, here’s another one we do to try to keep busy. I undertook great projects. I built houses for myself. I redecorated the house 16 times. I went out and bought new ones. I always wanted a bigger better house, and as soon as I got a bigger better house, well, guess what I was doing, looking for a bigger better one. You’re always looking for something more. So he built houses. He planted vineyards, gardens, beautiful gardens. I made gardens and parks and planted all kinds of fruit trees in them, I made reservoirs of to water, groves of flourishing trees, irrigation systems. He did it all.

I bought male and female slaves, and had other slaves who were born into my house. I also owned more herds and flocks than anyone in Jerusalem before me. I amassed silver and gold for myself and the treasure of kings and provinces. I acquired men and women, singers and a harem as well. The delights of the heart of man, I became greater by far, than anyone in Jerusalem before me. And in all this, my wisdom stayed with me. He keeps saying that he were doing all this dumb stuff he just got through saying that it doesn;t amount to anything. He said, things that wisdom stayed with me. Well, what was the wisdom? It’s all vanity. It’s coming to the truth of something. This is all vanity. It’s all vanity. Boys, the things that I thought were so important in life play such importance in are meaningless when you’re lying here like this, dying of cancer.
