Classic Christianity – Meaningless or Meaningful – Part 1 – 7-28-25

Meaningless or Meaningful – Part 1

~ There are two types of wisdom going on today. There are those who are trusting in the wisdom of the world, and then there are those who are trusting in the Wisdom of God. [For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness.” 1 Corinthians 3:19] And the wisdom of God is inside everyone who believes in Jesus and has placed Faith in Him. [in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Colossians 2:3] The first way, you will lose your soul if you stay that way till the day you die. The second way, you will inherit Eternal Life and you will NEVER die. Yes, everyone dies physically, but the child of God never dies. They are simply absent from this body of decaying flesh, and present with the Lord clothed in their new body of flesh and bone that will never die. [Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me will live, even though he dies. And everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26] And until a person has Jesus living in them, they cannot understand the things of God. Scripture tells us that. For the things we say to people sound foolish to them that don’t have Jesus living inside them. They have no clue what we are even saying. So the most important thing is to make sure a person is saved.

…..

And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone.

~ “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12

~ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one believing in Me, even if he should die, he will live. And everyone living and believing in Me shall never die, to the age. Do you believe this?” John 11:25,26

Pray to God:

Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ Bob George emphasizes the importance of embracing weakness to experience Christ’s power. For true salvation comes when one realizes their inability to save themselves, leading to faith in Christ. Bob discusses the challenges of living a Christian life, including dealing with personal sin and marital issues, and stresses the need for reliance on God’s power rather than self-effort. He highlights the concept of a new identity in Christ, which transcends earthly struggles and sin. Bob encourages believers to recognize and draw on the divine power available to them, as exemplified by Christ’s resurrection, to overcome personal weaknesses and live a life of faith.

~ “We’re told in the scripture that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. So if you want wisdom, there’s a place to start. And the place that you start, if you’re looking for wisdom, is the fear of the Lord. Now, what do you mean the fear of the Lord? To sit around scared of the Lord? No, it means the awe of the Lord. There is nothing in the world that I enjoy, and most of you know that sitting and looking at than the ocean. I love to be in Florida. I love to be in the by the ocean. I love to watch it. I love to see it. I love to be in it, but not too far in it. I have an awe of that ocean. I love it, every aspect of it. I love it. I love to see it. I love to feel it, but I have a phenomenal respect for it. I’m not going to get in it too deep. A man was not meant to live in the ocean, but to have awe of it. And the same thing is true with God. I love God. I have awe of him, and I have a great respect for him, and yet I love him dearly. And it’s the same thing. The beginning of wisdom is the love of God is the beginning of wisdom. That’s where it has to start. And until it starts there, you’ll never have wisdom. Why? Well, it tells us that natural man cannot understand spiritual things, and God is Spirit. So how are you going to have wisdom if you don’t have God? And how are you going to have God unless you come to Christ? And so everything begins with plugging into God. It’s like an appliance, nice thing. You can sit there and look at it and do all kinds of things, but it will not run until you plug it in. And we’re the same way, folks, until we are plugged in to God, nothing is going to work” ~ Bob George

Bob George 0:28
Let’s let’s open up the Word of God together today. A number of weeks ago, while we were celebrating our burning of the mortgage here at People to People, the staff, unbeknownst to Amy and I, had had a couple of plaques made with our father’s pictures on them in glass that it was made a beautiful deal. One is hanging back there that you can see, that’s the one of Amy’s father, and mine is in the studio. I want to talk a little bit about that plaque of my father, because on it, it said some of the last words that my dad ever said to us before he died. Some of you know the story of my dad. He was a wonderful man. He was a a very honest attorney. There’s a new one. He was a man of his word, and he was a father that worked to provide for his family. My dad was an unusual man. He would absolutely while he was dying of cancer, he was still doing people’s work for them, and the reason for it was I committed to do so. His word was his bond. But at the end of his life, when Dad was in Austin, Texas, he they flew from his home in Indiana down to Austin, where my sister lived, and he was in the hospital there, and it was over. I believe, if I’m not mistaken, the Fourth of July, and we were called. My brother was called, and I was called to meet them down in Austin because dad had gotten terrifically sick back into the hospital and was dying. And I remember that as my brother and I visited with him at that time, that before we left, my dad called my brother and I into his room.

Now, my dad had been a religious man. They had gone to church. Had us kids in church since we were youth. In our youth, my role in the church that we went to as a little boy was sitting next to mom and with my lap, head on her lap sleeping, but I was kind of being a forerunner of some of you. But at any rate, we were in church, and dad was a very moral person, but there was something missing in regard to a relationship, a difference between knowing about God being a moral person being an example, but of knowing God, of really knowing God. Dad had a tough time with the virgin birth. He had a tough time figuring that out, trying to figure that out. And again, most of you know my story, that I came to Christ in California and at the time of my dad’s illness, and what really led me to the Lord was was having to face the fact that my dad was dying in front of my eyes, and there was nothing that I could do about it. Old nifty me couldn’t do anything about it. And you know the story, so no need in belaboring that again. But Amy and I both came to know Christ, Jesus as our Lord and Savior at age 36. Racing back to Indiana to talk to my dad as rapidly as I could, because I knew he was dying, and had an opportunity of bringing him to California and talking to Dr Bright, who was the president of Campus Crusade for Christ, who had led me to Christ. And in that conversation of hearing my dad say to Dr bright, who had asked him if he wanted to accept Christ as his personal Lord and Savior of my dad, or pray with him. Rather, my dad said, Now, Dr bright, I would love to pray with you, and I have no problem with that at all, but I want you to know that I have led a very decent life, (and he had) and I have been a faithful husband and a faithful father, and I have led a decent life. And the stained glass windows that are in our church back in New Castle, Indiana, I bought those. He was very proud of what he had accomplished for God, but I do not think at that particular juncture, had a clue as to what God had done for him.

My heart sunk on me as I heard those words that day, because I knew that no man is going to get to get to heaven by buying stained glass windows for the church or by leading a decent life, because no one has led a life compared to that of Christ, Jesus, and He is our standard. Not one another. We can look pretty good up next to one another, but up next to Jesus, there’s our standard. So my heart sunk on me, and I began the process of trying to share with Dad. He had to go back to Indiana, and we continue to pray for him, and we did so until getting down to Austin, where I was just talking about where Dad was back in the hospital. He called my brother and I into his room, and I was into a situation of begging God, God, you have got to show me where my dad is in his relationship with God. He’s about to die, and I have to know where he’s going. We had given dad a book to read and but I had no idea of what the response had been to that. But as I say, Dad called us into his room, and his words were this, Boys, all of the things that I have thought were so important in life and placed such great emphasis in are absolutely meaningless when you’re here dying of cancer and boys, the only thing that matters is man and his relationship with God. They said, Bob, I read that book and everything’s a okay. I kissed my dad goodbye that day in my heart, knowing full well I’d probably never see him again here on this earth. And I was correct, because by the time we got back to California, the phone was ringing, and it was my sister telling me that dad had gone to be with the Lord. But those words were in penetrated into my heart, guys, the only thing that matters is man and his relationship with God. Everything that I’ve thought was so important placed such great emphasis in are meaningless when you’re here dying of cancer. Is that true? It’s true.

In our born free book. At the beginning of that book, I chose to put this story into it, and I read it to you. In 1923 a very important meeting was held at the Edgewater Beach, beach hotel in Chicago, and attending this meeting were nine of the world’s most successful men, at least men who had found the secret of how to make money, high rollers, we would call them. Let’s see what happened to these men 25 years later, the president of the largest independent steel company, Charles Schwab, died in bankruptcy, lived on borrowed money for five years before his death, the president of the greatest utility company, Samuel Insul, died a fugitive from justice and penniless in a foreign land. The president of the largest gas company, Howard Hobson, lost his sanity. The greatest wheat speculator, Arthur cotton died abroad insolvent. The president of the New York Stock Exchange, Richard Whitney, was released from Sing Sing penitentiary, a member of the President’s Cabinet, Albert fall, was pardoned so that he could die at home. The greatest bear on Wall Street, Jesse Livermore died a suicide, the head of the greatest monopoly, Ivar Kruger died a suicide. The president of the Bank of International Settlements, Leon Frazier died a suicide. All of these men had chose and learned the art of making a living, and yet none of them, it seems, had ever learned how to live. There’s a world of difference between success and between happiness and joy.

We’re told in the scripture that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. And we’re the same way, folks, until we are plugged in to God, nothing is going to work

Now, guys, Ecclesiastes, and we’re going to turn to that in a moment. Have it up on the screen. I know you probably don’t know where it is, but it is in the Old Testament. But it’s a marvelous book of Wisdom. It’s the book coming from Solomon, the son of David, the king of Israel, wisdom, a man who had tested it all and came to put these insights down for us. Guys, there’s two ways of thinking. When you have a youth way, there’s a young and there’s an adult way. And when you’re young, you think like young people, but guys, you’re not going to stay young, you’re going to grow older, and you’d better prepare yourself for adulthood. I used to say, I don’t want to raise my kids to be good kids. I want to raise them to be adults. I want them to start thinking like an adult. My dad used to say to me all the time, think, boy, think God didn’t give you that head just to put a hat on and grow hair out of think, use your head. Think. What was he trying to do get me to learn to think like an adult, not like a kid. You’re a child. A lot of times in youth, you think like a youth, but I want to tell you something, you can get up to a point where, if you’re thinking like a kid, you might do something that you’re going to be judged as an adult in a court of law. So you better start learning to think like an adult as a kid, instead of trying to think like a kid to be accepted.

Bob George 14:34
Folks, I want as a child to learn to be accepted by adults. Any idiot will accept you as a kid. All you got to do anymore is wear your pants down so you got all cracked up. Wear your hair a certain way, and these idiots will accept you, but an adult WON’T YOU. So you go do something as a young person. You go to court. You know, the first thing the attorney’s going to tell you, if you’re going to appear before a court of law, cut your hair, pull your pants up, and get dressed up like an adult, because if you don’t, you’re going to be judged by adults, not by kids adults. Adults don’t like the way you look kids. I don’t care. I will look like a kid. Well, go ahead, but you’re not going to be accepted by adults. So we need to train our youth to grow up, to start thinking like an adult, not like a kid, like an adult, because that’s who you’re going to be judged by for the rest of your life. Not going to be very long as a child, as a young person sitting in this room today, that you’re going to be out on your own very few years. I don’t care how old you are, just a very few years, you’re going to be out in the world. That’s why the Bible says to put aside childish thinking and grow up start thinking with wisdom. As a child you can think with God’s wisdom as a child. There are many kids that I know that have more wisdom than adults that I know.

Now let’s turn together to some wisdom in Ecclesiastes. Kind of turn to the center of your Bible and go right. That’s right after Proverbs, and you’ll find Ecclesiastes Now, folks, this instruction from Solomon came from a man who sought wisdom from God. That was his first prayer, wisdom, Lord, I want wisdom above all things. And again, God gave him wisdom. And in the meantime, the things that Solomon sought were everything, it seems, apart from wisdom. I mean, the things that he did were not wise, but he learned that they weren’t wise, and that sometimes is important for us to learn that this was not wise decisions, but this was the most powerful man, probably that ever lived, and probably one of the most wealthy men that ever lived, King Solomon, he had it all, and yet he had nothing. That’s what my dad said boys, all the things that I thought were so important in life place such great emphasis in are meaningless when you’re dying of cancer, meaningless. Solomon learned that he said the words of the Teacher, son of David, the King of Jerusalem, meaningless. Meaningless. Vanity. Vanity, says the teacher utterly meaningless. Everything is meaningless. Now, guys, this is not going to be preached in a positive thinking clinic. I don’t believe you’re going to hear Robert Schuller preaching this message, or Zig Ziglar, or any of the other positive thinker, it’s not, they’re not going to do that. But you see, God never told us to think positive. He told us to think realistically. What is realistic? What is realistic Solomon is saying, and we’ve learned, is, you’re going to die someday. That’s what realistic is. I don’t care how successful you are. I don’t care how talented you are. I don’t care how smart you think you are. One of these days, you’re going to be dead as a hammer, and so am I. Is that right or wrong? You go by a graveyard and look over it and say, That’s my destiny, I’m going to own an underground condominium there. That’s where you’re going. All of us, all of us, all of us. So what’s the purpose of being here? A lot many people are asking that question. Well, then why am I here? That’s where people get hopeless. Why am I here? That’s what happened to me in my life. Is, is this all life is, is getting up the morning and working your tail off and making some money so you can go bed at night and go to sleep and get up the next morning, make some more money, work your tail off to go to bed at night, get up the next day and work. Is that all there is, Lord, and that was my prayer was, what’s it all about Alfie? Not a real religious prayer, but that was my prayer to God. What’s it all about Alfie? What’s it all about? There’s got to be more to life than this. But I didn’t have wisdom. Why? I didn’t have the Lord, you. I didn’t have the Lord. My friends, you will never find meaning and purpose to this life down here until you find Jesus. Never, never will there ever be meaning and purpose to life, until you have a relationship with God and walk in that relationship. Does that mean that you’re never going to fall down? Well, did Solomon leave a perfect life? Nobody never forgot God. In the midst of all of the things that Solomon did, he never forgot God, and God never forgot him, but you’re never going to have meaning and purpose to life until your life is centered in the center of this universe. And it’s not you, it’s him. Meaningless. Everything is meaningless. What does it gain a man from all of his labor at which he toils under the sun? Generations come, generations go, but the earth remains forever. The sun rises and the sun sets and hurries back to where it rises. The wind blows to the south and turns to the north, and round and round it goes, ever returning on its course, all streams flow into the sea, and yet the sea is never full. Have you ever wondered, you all been at the ocean? Have you ever wondered how this huge ocean stops at the shore? Have you ever wondered that, what stops it? What stops it? Why does it stop at that beach so that I can walk on it? I don’t know. Maybe God, maybe God.

I say, why doesn’t this government save itself billions of dollars and just read the Bible, send them a $20 Bible and save billions of dollars of research. What are you going to do when you figure it out? Folks, do you understand the fact you can’t even figure you out? We’re out trying to change the world. You can’t even change your family. Am I right or wrong? You can’t even change your wife. How do you think you’re going to change the world? You may be the best communicator in the world to the world, your wife doesn’t give a flip about what you say. She’s not impressed. You may be the smartest thing in the world at work, but a dumb clock at home. Am I right or wrong? You can’t even change your mate, let alone the world. I joined a Christian organization years ago to help come help change the world. It’s changed, all right? It’s gotten worse. You’re not going to change anything. Only God can change people. You can’t change anybody. Can’t even change yourself. Can you? How many of you said, I wish I was different? Well, man, if you wish you were different, you’d be different. You can’t even change it.

So he’s coming along and saying to us that guys, these streams, they didn’t return again. All things in verse eight are wearisome, more than one can say. The eye has never had enough of sin. We just can’t see enough, nor the ear filled, filled of hearing, what has been will be again. That’s one thing we know. What has been will be done again. There’s nothing new under the sun. We think there’s something new. There’s a new thing new under the sun. Do you think guys, that we mankind, was any different 1000 years ago than we are today? Any different? You think so? Do you think men were any different than where men are dead today? Do you think women way different? No. Think women, if they had a place to go, like to shop 1000 years ago? Nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say, Look, this is something new. It was already here a long time ago. It was here before our time. There is no remembrance of men of old, and even those who are yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow.

Guys do you know how short lived again your memory is? You know, I have people who live so they can, they can have an inheritance or have a legacy. That’s the word legacy. I want to I want to have a legacy. I want to be remembered. Lots of luck. Half the people didn’t remember what you said 15 minutes ago. Gonna build a legacy. Gonna build till I I Big old me will be remembered. You. My friends. You know what it says, You’re not going to be remembered that long. You know when my dad died, there was grief, heartache, tears, all of those things. Today I’m not crying over my dad’s death or grieving over it’s been dead over 20 years. It’s kind of just vaguely remembered, remembered, but kind of vaguely remembered. So guys, the issue is, what are you doing now? Do you see why Jesus said live a day at a time. Forget about living to be remembered. Live today, to love.
