The denial of the physical, bodily resurrection of Jesus is one of the most destructive and insidious deceptions circulating within spiritualized and alternative “truther” communities and even within the so-called “church” that teaches some sort of spirtualized resurrection. To neutralize the physical authority of King Jesus, compromised gatekeepers attempt to dissolve His literal, physical victory into a purely metaphorical, “spirit-only” abstraction.
To expose this deception, we must look directly at the unyielding legal logic of 1 Corinthians 15:12–19 alongside the literal physical proofs recorded in the Gospels.
1. The Divine Legal Logic of the Resurrection
In 1 Corinthians 15:12–19, the Apostle Paul establishes that the physical resurrection is the absolute keystone of the Christian faith. It is not an optional theological ornament; it is the entire foundation:
“But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is worthless, and so is your faith. In that case, we are also exposed as false witnesses about God. For we have testified about God that He raised Christ from the dead, but He did not raise Him if in fact the dead are not raised.
For if the dead are not raised, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If our hope in Christ is for this life alone, we are to be pitied more than all men.”
Paul’s argument is an airtight legal chain: If there is no physical resurrection, then Christ is not raised. If Christ is not raised, faith is a complete statistical absurdity, we are still dead in our sins, and those who have died in Christ are utterly lost. To reduce this triumph to a mere “spiritualized” or metaphorical event is to declare the entire work of redemption void.
2. Dismantling the “Spirit-Only” Ghost Myth
Those who fall into total spiritualized Preterism falsely claim that Jesus only returned as a “spirit” or a “ghost,” spiritualizing away the physical reality of His resurrected form. This direct denial of Scripture is shattered by the explicit physical landmarks documented in the Gospels:
He Was Seen by Hundreds of Physical Witnesses: The resurrection was not a private, abstract whisper. It was a massive, public historical event. As Paul records in 1 Corinthians 15:6, the resurrected Jesus was physically seen by over five hundred brethren at once, the majority of whom were still alive at the time of Paul’s writing to testify to what their physical eyes had witnessed.
He Had a Literal Body of Flesh and Bone: In Luke 24:39, Jesus directly addresses those who think He is a mere spirit or phantom:
He Walked, Spoke, and Conversed: For forty days after His resurrection, Jesus physically walked on the earth, taught His disciples, and interacted with them. In Luke 24:13–35, He walked along the road to Emmaus with two disciples, conversing with them, explaining the Scriptures, and physically breaking bread at their table.
He Ate Literal, Physical Food: To leave absolutely zero room for the “spirit-only” deception, Jesus physically consumed food in front of multiple witnesses. Luke 24:41–43 records:
He Was Physically Handled and Touched: Jesus did not present Himself as an untouchable holographic projection. He invited physical verification. In John 20:27, He tells the doubting disciple Thomas:

If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is worthless, and so is your faith. Salvation is not found in religious activities, rituals, or adding works like baptism, tongues, or church membership; it is found in Jesus and His finished work alone.
Bob stresses that life on earth is brief, but our eternal destiny is at stake. One day every person will stand before God, and the key question will be, “What did you do with My Son?” Our only hope is to have received Christ as Lord and Savior by faith, not to present our own goodness or religious record. Many people resist coming to Christ because they fear giving up certain pleasures or habits, but Bob insists that God wants the person, not their “stuff,” and that Christ Himself will deal with those issues once a person comes to Him.
Using the picture of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly, Bob describes being born again as a permanent transformation into a new creation. Before Christ, we are like caterpillars, “ground bound” and unable to live the life God intends. Through spiritual “metamorphosis,” God makes the believer into a butterfly—no longer what they once were and never to return to that old state. Repentance, he says, is a change of mind and heart: turning from a life of sin, dishonesty, and spiritual deadness to a life of faith, love, and obedience.
He concludes with a strong appeal for listeners to personally and decisively come to Jesus. Bob urges people to stop trusting in confirmation classes, religious education, or church activities, and instead to put their faith in Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. He invites them to express that faith through prayer—thanking Jesus for taking away their sins at the cross, asking Him to give them eternal life, and receiving Him as Lord and Savior so they may become a new creation in Him.

Those on the rock are the ones who receive the word of God with joy. Have you ever known somebody, man, just excited about Jesus? Man, I came to Jesus, and they like to say Jesus. It get a little emphasis there, and and and they they got joy when they hear it, but they don’t have any root. There’s no root. It’s what’s called having a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge. I got a zeal, but I don’t know anything. And then the other side of that pendulum are people who continually are studying the Word of God and don’t have a clue what it means. Dead as a hammer. Receive the Word of God when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away. Now, guys, you say, “Well, they believe for a while. What is it talking about? Can you believe without putting faith into what you believe? Yeah, absolutely, and that’s what Jesus said in the third chapter of John that they saw the miracles. They didn’t believe in His name, and we’d look at that and say, “Oh, see, they believed. He said, “No, no, keep reading. Jesus, he said, didn’t entrust himself to them, for he knew man and he did not need the testimony of man concerning man. So you see, believing isn’t what saves you. It’s faith in what you believe is what saves you. You’re saved by faith. You’re not saved by believing. And so these people believed for a while, but then the trials and tribulation of the world came along. They just forgot about everything. So what it means? They said they didn’t believe to begin with. That’s what the scripture says. They went out from among us because they were never a part of us. Is that possible, guys? To be a part of people, walk away from because you never were a part of them. You just weren’t there, and that was these people. They have no root. Now it says they fall away. The seed fell among thorns. That stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way, they’re choked by life’s worries, by riches and by pleasures. They all go together: worry, riches, and pleasure-a triplicate. If you got riches and you live for pleasure, you’re going to have a bunch of worries, and they do not mature. You don’t grow up. You remain like babies. Like I said in Corinthians, by this time you ought to be teaching. Instead, we’re still babies. We’re not growing. We’re not maturing. That’s what your faith. Your faith doesn’t grow, but you can mature in your faith as you learn to use it, as you learn to apply it, and as you learn to see God’s faithfulness while you’re applying it, that’s when you begin to mature and grow. So that they’re choked out by life’s worries, always worrying about life, very worried about my money, worried about pleasures, something I can spend this money on. They don’t mature, remain babies. But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart. There’s your difference: a noble and good heart who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop. So there is a good heart that hears the word of God retains the word of God, and then perseveres to produce a crop. What gets me is where’s the crop? If it doesn’t spell itself out with honesty with one another, of treating each other fairly, if it doesn’t spell out with, if you got a complaint, come to somebody. If it doesn’t spell out with interaction upon one another, it’s just it’s just hearsay. Because God wants us. What’d He say? The only thing that counts is what? Faith expressing itself through love. The only thing I’m looking for is faith in Me that spells out in your love toward another is what we do. Loving, do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Do you like that one? Would you like someone to cheat you? Then don’t cheat them. You want somebody to lie to you? Then don’t lie to them. It’s a rule. If you don’t want it to happen to you, don’t let it happen through you. That’s if you want to grow. That’s if you want to mature. And we, as people of God, need to take this seriously. If you’re in Christ. You’re a different creature. If any man be in Christ, he is a new creation. All old things have passed away. Behold, all things new. You ought to be having a new way of thinking. You ought to have new friends. It says bad company corrupts good character. Stay away from bad character. A lot of times, people go into business with it. Stupid. Get married to it. Stupid. If you got a person that’s got bad character, stay away from them. According to the Bible, if you want to have wisdom, if you don’t want to have wisdom, hang around them; they’ll get you sooner or later. Guys, this isn’t easy to preach, but it’s truth, and it’ll set you free if you let it. Persevering produce a crop. No one lights a lamp and hides it under a jar or puts it under a bed instead. He puts it on a stand so that those who come in can see the light. For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. Therefore, consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more, and whoever does not have even what he thinks he has will be taken from him. Got it? Let’s go back to Corinthians. So Paul says that the gospel is what I received. I passed on to you of first importance that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures. Why did He die? Again, it doesn’t do you any good to say I believe Jesus died for my sins. Why did He die for your sins? Because you’re a sinner. And what’s the condition of a sinner? Spiritual condition, death. So you’re dead. So his death, burial, and resurrection cured every problem we’ve got. I’m a sinner. My sins had to be taken away from the eyes of God. He died. That is proof that what he, the Old Covenant, had been fulfilled, and was able to usher in a New Covenant of grace, because. unless a seed falls into the ground and dies, it abides what? Alone. And was raised from the dead, so that that life that raised him from the dead can raise you and me from the dead. What does that mean? Jesus lives in you. Now I got Christ’s mind living in me. Now he says, use it. I’ve got an option, don’t I? As a born again believer, I’ve got an option to participate in the divine nature that lives in me. That’s Jesus living in me. Now that I’m born again, if you’re not born again, all this is nonsense to you because you can’t understand it. It says that natural man can’t understand spiritual things. It’s foolishness to him. So if you’re sitting here today and you don’t know Christ, this is a bunch of idiocy. But if you know Christ, it’ll change your life. If you’re dead, you need life, guys. Again, I’m just trying as hard as I can. Why would you want to remain dead? Now, guys, let me tell you: if you think Christianity is what you see on television, you are really nuts. Because if you think crawling around on the floor and screaming and yelling and all the stuff that you see going on is Christianity. That’s all about what I’m doing. So don’t say, “Well, I don’t want any of this, because that-if that’s what Christianity-that’s not what Christianity is, guys. That is not what Christianity is. Believe me. That’s why I don’t have it on my clicker. I don’t even want to see it go by because it’s so nonsensical. This is where you find truth in the Word of God. And so he said he appeared to more than after his resurrection. Appeared to more than 500 Most are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me. For I am the least of the apostles, and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God, I am what I am, and His grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God that was within me. So whether then it was I or they. This is what we preach, and this is what you believed. So he’s saying, don’t get away from it. Don’t add to it. Don’t subtract from it. Don’t get your concentration on it. If I added baptism to salvation, what would I be preaching every Sunday? Baptism. Am I right or wrong? If I added tongues to salvation, what would I be preaching every Sunday? Tongues. If I added church membership to salvation, what would I be preaching every Sunday? Church membership-you gotta come to church, and we’d have people trained on how to put guilt trips on people. Didn’t see you last week, Jim. Bless your heart. God bless you. Yeah, we’d be good at these guilt trips. That’s not it. It’s Jesus and Jesus alone. If it’s preached that Christ was not raised from the dead, how can some of you say there’s no resurrection from the dead? How can you say there’s no resurrection if there’s no resurrection? Then Christ didn’t raise. And my friends, if you don’t believe Jesus was raised from the dead, you don’t believe in Jesus. Very simple. You don’t believe in Jesus, and I’m not talking about an intellectual assent that he, you know, like Abe Lincoln was killed to Ford Theater. Jesus was raised from the dead. I’m not talking about that kind of thing. I mean he was raised for me. Why was he raised from the dead? So that that life that raised him from the dead can raise me from the dead. He did it for me. It wasn’t a historical event for us to sit around and praise. He did it so that you could live, because we weren’t alive until the resurrection. If there’s no resurrection from the dead, not even Christ has been raised, and if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless, and so is your faith. You got a useless faith. So, guys, let me think. If you deny the resurrection, then you deny Jesus. If you deny the cross, you deny Jesus. If you think there’s other way to God, you’ve denied Jesus. If you think that there’s many, many ways to God, and I think I’m a good person, you’ve denied Jesus. In every one of those cases, your stating what you believe shows you what you believe about Jesus. Because if I believe that all people are going to get to heaven, then you don’t believe in Jesus, because He said, “I am the way, and I am the truth, and I am the life, and no one comes to the Father except through me. Is that true or not? If He’s God, that’s true. If He isn’t, forget it. Throw this book in a waste basket, eat drink, and to be merry. For tomorrow you may die. But please do not say I believe in Jesus, but I don’t believe in the resurrection. Please don’t say I believe in Jesus. But there’s many ways to God. Please don’t say I believe in Jesus. But basically, I’m a good person. That’s a sign you don’t believe in Jesus because He said you weren’t a good person. He didn’t write I’m okay and you’re okay. He said you’re not okay, but that’s okay. I got a solution for you. More than that, we are to be found to be false witnesses about God, for we’ve testified that God has raised Christ from the dead. But He did not raise Him if, in fact, the dead are not raised, and if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either, and if Christ is not being raised, your faith is futile, and you’re still in your sins. Now we talked about that last week, guys. That here he said, if Christ is not raised, your faith is futile, and you’re still in your sins. The cross preceded the resurrection. That’s where he took away the sins of the world, didn’t it? But he said, “Without the resurrection, you’re still in your sins. Well, what is he talking about there? What we’ve talked about, and what the Christian world isn’t talking about. That Jesus died for you then, so that raised from the dead, he can live in you now. You’re not saved from your sins. You’re saved from the consequence of sin, which is called death, and you’re saved by life. I came that you might have life. I’m the way and the truth and the life. He who has the Son has life. He who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I’ve written unto you. Believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have what? Life. What kind of life? Eternal. It’s only one way for eternal life. It’s through the resurrected one.

Christ hadn’t been raised. Your faith is futile. You’re still in your sin. So, my friends, look, the cross was preparatory to salvation. It is not salvation in and of itself. We preach the cross, preach the cross, preach the cross. Come down and get forward and get your sins forgiven. That’s nonsense. Your sins are already forgiven. What do you think Jesus did at the cross? Well, yeah, but me. See, you’re bringing me into it. Don’t bring me into it. It’s He, not me. He took away your sins, not you. You could never take away your sins. It’s Him. He took them away eternally from the eyes of God. That being an accomplished fact, He’s now able to offer you now life. What kind of life? A life that cannot be destroyed. Why can’t it be destroyed? Because the only thing could destroy it is sin. And the reason that’s an impossibility is because of the cross where He took away sin. Do we understand that, guys? The dynamic of this message. If Christ had not been raised, your faith is futile. You’re still in your sin. So please don’t tell us that by they’re saved but getting their sins forgiven. Then those who have all fallen asleep in Christ are lost. Then every person that’s ever died is a goner. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we’re to be pitied of all men, folks. This is a temporary deal we’ve got down here. At the very most, we live just a few short years. Some of us shorter than others. Some people die way prematurely in our minds. But if we’re just on the regular deal, we’re headed. You know, Amy and I are in the end of our life. We’re in the end of it. We’re in the last chapters. We’re not going to be here long. At the most, we’re not going to be here long. But I’m going to be with Him eternally, and that’s going to be a day of joy when we are absent from the body and present with the Lord, to live eternally, eternally, guys, alive with Jesus. When you don’t have Jesus, you’re going to die, and you’re going to live eternally separated from Jesus in a place called hell. Not a pretty picture. Does God send you to hell? No, you send yourself. You say, “I refuse to go to heaven. When you refuse to go to heaven, you’re going to go to hell. It’s a lot of discussion, people. Is there really a place called hell? Yeah, it’s in your head. Why would we think there wasn’t? Why would we want to live there? See, guys, we’re scared to death to give our hearts to Jesus because we think we have to give up something. I remember a guy in California that he was really a nice guy, talked to it, and I was sharing the Lord with him, and he said, “Bob, you know, he said, “I’ve come to Jesus, but but but I I kind of like a cocktail at night. I said, Roger, God doesn’t want your stupid cocktail. He wants your hands. He ain’t he ain’t interested in what’s in your hands. He wants your hands. You come to Jesus. He’ll take care of the cocktail. You don’t have to sit around worrying what you’re going to give up. You don’t give up anything. Just let Jesus work in your heart. He came to Christ, but He resisted. Isn’t that crazy? I’d rather have a cocktail than eternal life. Isn’t that amazing? That’s why God called a sheep, guys, dumbest animal on the face of the earth. Go right over the cliff with the leader, just just leap right over. We need help. People say, “Oh, you just use Jesus a crutch. Crutch, heck, he’s my legs. Jesus is indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. In other words, the first to raise, but be raised from the dead. For since death came through a man, who was that, guys? Now here again, it’s explained as clear as a bell that death came through who? Adam. So you’re born in Adam, dead. The issue is, do you want to remain that way? You’re going to appear before God someday. Do you realize that, guys? That every single one of us, when we die, are going to appear before God. He’s going to say, “What’d you do with my Son? That’s the only thing he’s going to ask you. You know, how many of you have heard that when you get up there, the screen’s going to come on, and everything you’ve ever done or said is going to be flashed up on that screen? How many of you ever heard that in your teaching, and you wonder why you didn’t want to go? I can’t think of anything worse than that. Could you? Well, that’s all done. That’s all wiped away. The only question that God will ever ask you is, Bob, Mary, Jim, what did you do with my Son? That’s the only question. What’d you do with my son? I sent my son to this earth, so that whosoever would believe in him would not perish, but have everlasting life. What’d you do with my Son? Say, God accepted Him as my Lord and my Savior, and I stand here today. And answer to your question is, what have I done to inherit the kingdom of God? Nothing except receive your Son into my heart as my Lord and Savior, and I stand in total emptiness, nakedness. That if this is not the way salvation occurs, I will not be saved, and neither will you. Why would you not want to be saved? Want to give up hangovers, affairs that make you miserable? If Christ is not raised, since death came through that one man, Adam, and the resurrection of the dead also comes through one man, and that’s Jesus. For as in Adam all die, all of us dead. So in Christ will all be made alive. All who come to Christ by faith will be made alive. Is that good news, guys? But each in his own turn. First Christ was raised, then the first fruits-that’s all of us-up until the day of the rapture, and when He comes, those who belong to Him. Then the end will come, when He hands over the the kingdom of God, the Father, after He has destroyed all dominion, authority, and power, for He must reign until He has put all of his enemies under his feet, and the last enemy to be destroyed is Death, Death, and that will be destroyed. For he has put everything under his feet. Now, when it says that everything has been put under him, it’s clear that he does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. When he has done this, then the Son Himself will be made subject to Him who has put everything under Him, so that God may be all in all. Now, if there’s no resurrection, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? You had people then there preaching there’s no resurrection, and then preach that you got baptized for the dead. Talk about dumb, and that’s what he’s saying here. If the dead aren’t raised, why are people being baptized for them? Are there denominations today that baptize people for the dead? Sure. We’re in danger every hour, Paul says he said, “I die every day, and I mean that, brothers. Just as surely as I glory over you in Christ Jesus our Lord, if I fought wild beasts in Ephesus for merely human reasons, what have I gained? What have you gained? You defeated a beast. If the dead are not raised, and if you don’t believe the dead are raised, and if you don’t believe the dead are raised, and you don’t believe in Jesus. Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow you may die. Don’t be misled. Bad company corrupts good character. Come back to your senses as you ought. Come back to your senses. Quit sinning, for there are some who are ignorant of God, and I say this to your shame. Friends, as we close today, I want you to, in the privacy of your own heart. in essence, to say to God, “Is there such a thing as a good heart? Somebody that wants to grab a hold of this message and run with it, take it? I’m dead. I’ve never come to you for life. I came to you for forgiveness. Oh, I went through confirmation classes, and I went through all kinds of classes, and I did this, and I answered questions. I went through high school Bible, and I went through all that, but I never accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I never said to God, God, if this is not true, I’ll never be saved. But if it is true, then I’m going to be in Your presence when I die. There’s a decision that God wants us to make, and that’s how you’re born again. You’re made with a decision, a decision of the heart. That’s what repentance is. Repentance is change of mind. I was thinking this way. Today I’m thinking this way. It’s like a caterpillar. Caterpillar can crawl around on the ground. You could get him, be an educated, send him to worm you and educate him, but he can’t fly. He’s a caterpillar. He’s ground bound, and he sees these butterflies flying around and and and you say that’s a pretty desirable lifestyle. They can fly any place they want. They can crawl like me, but they can crawl plus fly. Wonder how I get to be one of those? And God comes along and says, “I can make you into one through a process of metamorphosis. I come, weave a cocoon around you, and one day you emerge as a butterfly. But I want to tell you something. Don’t say I want to be one for a couple days because once you’re a butterfly, you’ll never be a worm again. Never be a worm again. So this is not. I’m going to give it a whack. I’m going to give it a try. This is a decision that I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. I’m sick and tired of being a worm, and I want to be a butterfly. Because when I make you into one, it’s eternal. It’s eternal. So it’s not just one of those little flimsy decisions. It’s a decision that I want to change my whole life. I can’t change it. I’ve tried. I want you to change it. I want you to come into my heart and to give me new life, so that if any man be in Christ, he’s a new creation. Old things have passed away, and all things have become new. I want to become a new creation. I’m tired of the life I’m living. I’m tired of the dishonesty. I’m tired of some ways the way I think and make decisions that I know are not right. I want to be a new creature, and folks, if that’s the desire of your heart, you can do so right now, sitting exactly where you are, and you do so by faith, and you do so by faith in Jesus and what He accomplished-death, burial, and resurrection. You express that faith to Him through prayer. I’m tired of being lost, and I want you to come into my heart and to be my Lord and my Savior. I want to thank you for taking away my sins eternally at the cross, which is what enables you to give me eternal life, and I wanted you to come and give me life. If that’s your heart attitude, you can bow your head right now and express that to Jesus.
