Classic Christianity – The Shocking Truth – Part 1 – 7-27-26
~ The Apostle Paul told it like it is repeatedly. He wrote to folks boldly in the Spirit and told them what they needed to hear. He was in tune with the Holy Spirit living in Him. He spoke when the Spirit told Him to speak. He wrote what the Holy Spirit told him to write, and he shared the Truth of the gospel message. Today each one of us are on the front lines. We who know the TRUTH especially in regards to the completed forgiveness issue, we are to be spokespeople for God. And when you share the TRUTH with people, many times it will not be taken well. Many times Paul was kicked out of places. But he would NOT back down on TRUTH. For Paul had the heart of God living in him, and he understood the importance of what he was doing. Paul was on the front lines. He was many times, even within the church, confronting all types of deception. And the main deception at that time was legalism. And folks, today we have that too, but there are actually a whole bunch more deceptions than most people see or imagine. We have all believed lies, for we were born into a world filled with lies. And only through the Holy Spirit indwelling a person can one begin to see the lies and be taught directly by TRUTH, Jesus Himself, living in and through us. So stop leaning on your own understanding, even into the other things of God, and abide in Him to teach you ALL Truth. Ask for wisdom and understand directly from Him, and He will give it with great abundance without finding fault.
1 Corinthians 15:1-11
1 Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, and in which you stand firm. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He appeared to Cephasa and then to the Twelve. 6 After that, He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at once, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8And last of all He appeared to me also, as to one of untimely birth.
9 For I am the least of the apostles and am unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace to me was not in vain. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11 Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.
And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone. Luke 18:18,19

“What would they be saying to the HEBREW people? No more sacrifice. Your Day of Atonement is a celebration, but it was a foreshadowing of the reality that’s going to take place in Christ Jesus. The Day of Atonement, the day that God passed over, Passover, another celebration of God, that was a foreshadowing of Christ Jesus. No more sacrifice for sins, no more shedding of the blood of bulls and goats. Why? Because a human sacrifice replaced all animal sacrifices. The animal sacrifice, the blood of an animal, could not ever take away the sins of the world. But a human sacrifice took away the sins of the world, and that’s My sacrifice. It’s a sacrifice of the life and the blood of God, that was of such value that it was able to take away the sins of the entire world from the eyes of God throughout all eternity. It’s a plan, my friends, a plan of God that, after 4000 years of allowing man to see his failure, ushered in a plan whereby he said, “I will do it for you. I will do for you what you cannot do for yourself. And now that I have made that final sacrifice, put the others aside. Put them aside. They’re no longer in effect.
To the people today, where we have been egotistical enough to go over and to say, “Well, you can’t, couldn’t obey the laws, HEBREW people, but we smart Gentiles will. So, what have we done? Made even a worse failure out of it than the HEBREW people did. At least they were sincere in trying to obey the law. We’re just talking about it. To them, he says to the Catholic, “Put down your put down your confession booth. There is no more forgiveness of sins. To the Gentiles, to the conservatives, whoever you want to call us, quit First John one nine and yourself to death. Quit asking God to do what He’s already done-that is not faith. That’s presumption. You don’t ask God to give you eternal life when you’re born again. You already have eternal life. You don’t ask God to redeem you every day. You already have redemption. Then why do you ask God to forgive you every day when He said, “In Him you have redemption” the forgiveness of sins, it is not faith, my friends. And until the Christian world learns to go into the Sabbath rest and finally say it is finished, you’re going to be living in the desert for the rest of your life. I call it Las Vegas religion, building our big buildings in the desert, and saying “Woo pee. Until you rest in the finality of the cross, able to say, take a deep breath and say, “It’s finished. I am a forgiven person. Do you believe that? Jesus said it. Do you believe it? You know, it’s interesting. We say, “I believe in Jesus, but don’t believe in what He said. What did He cry out from the cross, folks? He said, “It’s what? Finished. Do you believe Him? No, you don’t. Well, you wouldn’t be asking Him to do what He’s already done. You see, that’s the issue. You have to put reality to the what you say you believe. If Christ Jesus did what He said, which He did, and took away the sins of the entire world from the eyes of God, and cried out from the cross, “It is finished, then guess what? It’s finished. Are you going to rest in it, or are you going to keep asking God to do what in Christ He has already done? That’s the question. You’re going to rest, or you’re going to keep working? He said, “By that one offering He made forever perfect in the sight of God. That one offering He made forever perfect in the sight of God. All of you, whom He made holy. How many of you believe that in the sight of God you’re perfect? I mean, complete. Yeah, because perfect means I’m perfect, and complete means I’m complete. It means there ain’t anything God is going to do to me over and above what He’s already accomplished. There’s no further salvation to give to me. There’s no further righteousness to give to me. I’ve got all He’s going to give me. There’s no further holiness that I can get through my good deeds and actions. I’m going to rest in the fact that although I did not deserve it and I could not earn it, that God made me holy in His sight.” ~ Bob George

For over 4000 years, beginning with Genesis and going through Malachi, we had the history of God dealing with man, with fallen man. After Adam and Eve fell, from that point forward, you had, as I say, about 4000 years of God dealing with us, dealing with man who, in his fallen state, many times tried desperately to live a life that they did not have, and yet desperately trying to be right in the sight of God, especially as it was dealing with the HEBREW nation. God gave the word of God to Noah, to Abraham. We know the stories of Abraham as to how he was called a man of faith. That’s how people were basically saved in the Old Testament. They were saved, like I said, on a credit card. They got to enjoy the furniture, but it hadn’t been paid for yet. But their salvation was credited to them as righteous. It was not a salvation such as we have today, following the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit of God came to live permanently in the in the hearts of man. But you have all of this 4000 years of God dealing with man’s failure from Abraham to Isaac, to Jacob, Moses, Joseph, Joshua had all of these heroes of the faith, so to speak, that God dealt with as in mercy and in kindness in the midst of their failure. Moses killing someone, David committing adultery, killing someone, and yet was called a man after God’s own heart. It’s hard for us to understand that, isn’t it many times? Because we look for perfection in imperfect people. But the fact of the matter is that the entire Old Testament, from Genesis to Malachi, is a history of man’s failure and of God’s mercy and kindness and goodness in the midst of it, it’s a history. And God gave us those 4000 years, in my opinion, for a reason, to show us in all of that time that man cannot do it on their own. We’re failures at that. Moses came down with the 10 Commandments. What did man say? We’ll do it. We’ll do it. You tell us, God. We’ll do it. What happened? They were building a golden calf before they ever got the 10 Commandments off of the mountain. Failures. Moses didn’t go to the Egyptians in order to kill somebody, but he did. I don’t believe when David went out on the balcony, he necessarily said, “I’m going to go out there to lust after someone. But he did. It shows us that in and of our human flesh is no good thing, and in and of our human flesh we cannot carry out what we ourselves would like to carry out, can we? We’re all together, I think, on that hopefully. and so all through this 4000 over 4000 year history, is God’s dealing with man and man’s failure to be able to live a life that He Himself would like to live.
And then you had after Malachi 400 years or so of silence-we call them the silent years-where men, as far as they were concerned, didn’t hear from God for 400 years. It’s a long time, and then the plan was launched. In other words, in God’s timing, and that’s His business is not ours, but in God’s timing, He said, “You’ve had 4000 years to prove to yourself and to anyone else that you cannot do it, you cannot accomplish it. You have people today who are their their ethics. We’re ethical people. We think. Well, then you fall on your face and you find out I’m not quite as ethical as I thought I was. If we’ll just be honest with ourselves and to realize that God looks on the heart, and man looks on the outside. How you doing on the outside? God looks on our heart. What’s going on underneath the skin? That’s why the law said don’t commit adultery. That’s what I do on the outside. Jesus said, if you look at a woman’s lust in your heart, you’ve already committed adultery. That’s on the inside. That’s where nobody sees, but that’s where God sees. And so, in light of that, we cannot live according to the standards of God. God gave us the 10 Commandments. We thought those ought to be easy. Well, they’re not easy. You fall flat on your face whenever you set out to try to obey them. You cannot do it. You’ve got people who are deceived in thinking that they can do it.
I’ve had people call in on the radio and say to me that I don’t sin. I say, let me talk to your wife. I had a guy one time is dumb enough to let me do it, folks. We have to get into our heart. We cannot do it. It’s a whole history of man trying to live a life without the Spirit of God living in you, because you see, on the day that Adam and Eve were created, they were created totally alive, bodily, spiritually, and soulishly. Now, when Adam died, what is death? It’s the absence of life. Just like what is darkness is the absence of light. And when Adam died, the life of God departed from Adam, leaving him dead spiritually. And from that point on, every child that was born from Adam, that’s why we’re all here from Adam-are born dead spiritually. That’s why we bounce prayers off of the ceiling. That’s like it. Regardless of how successful you might become in business, there’s an emptiness there. I had a certain success in business, but I was empty as a pork barrel inside, and always was wondering why I cannot live the kind of life that I would like to live. But you see, that’s an impossibility because God created man in such a way whereby God in the man is indispensable to the humanity of the man. In other words, you’re not totally human until you’re indwelt by the Spirit of God, as He created Adam. He created Adam indwelt by the Spirit of God. When Adam died, the Spirit of God departed from him, and he was left dead. So you and I can’t do it in our state of spiritual death. We can try, but we cannot pull it off. We give it a good effort, don’t we? And a lot of people give it a lot more effort than others. But the issue is, you can’t do it.
And so, in the heart of God was a plan, and His plan was to redeem man, to restore man to true humanity, restoring in us what we had lost in Adam-that being the Spirit of God living in us-that was His plan from day one. Took Him 4000 years to pull it off. Why? To prove to man you can’t do it. That ought to be enough time to prove to us that we can’t do it. And then we’re told in Matthew one, the plan was unfolded. This is the plan for all humanity. Out of the heart of God, who said, “I love you. I love you so much that I’m going to send my only begotten Son, so that whosoever believes in Him would not perish but have everlasting life. And God demonstrated His love toward us, and while we were yet enemies, Christ died for us. His plan was unfolded. Now that plan was first of all revealed to Joseph.
So, if we pick up in the 18th verse of the first chapter, this is how the birth of Christ Jesus came about. His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph, her husband, was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit, and she’ll give birth to a son, and you’re to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.
Now, folks, if there was any way in God’s earth to save his people from their sins prior to Jesus, then Jesus came for nothing. A sacrificial system could not save people from their sins. All a sacrificial system could do is cover your sins until the next time, there was no way in all of the 4000 year history that man could be saved from his sins. No way. Period. It was always before them. The guilt was always there. The emptiness of Spirit was always there for 4000 years, and so.
So he announced to Joseph that that Mary’s going to have a son, and you’re going to call his name Jesus. And the reason is he will save his people from their sins. Now all this took place. It said to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Emmanuel, which means God with us. When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and he took Mary as his wife. But he had no union with her until he gave birth to a son, and he gave him the name of Jesus.
Now I want us to turn back now to the book of Hebrews, the 10th chapter, and in the 10th chapter of Hebrews, we’re going to pick up where we had left off last week in regard to the study of Hebrews, and we’re going to learn how did God through Jesus save people from their sins. In other words, if He sent His Son to save people from their sins. How did he do that? How did he pull that off? Now we had the law that was given to Moses, and the law was given, and man could not keep it. But it says that the law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming, not the realities themselves. So people who want to worship under the law are worshiping a shadow. Doesn’t make much sense to worship a shadow when the reality is here. But it said for this reason it can never by the same sacrifices, and these were the sacrifices that were given to Israel in order to cover their sin and to ease their guilt until the next time. But it never, ever, ever satisfied, because what does say in the book of Hebrews? Every day, priest stands and performs his religious duties again and again and again, which can never do what? Take away sin, covered sin, absolutely. That’s what atonement did, but it could not take it away.
And so, for this reason, it can never by the same sacrifices, repeatedly, endlessly, year after year, make perfect or complete those who draw near to worship. In other words, to be complete means it’s done; it’s finished. When something is completed, it’s over; it’s finished. To be able to rest. Now, remember the Sabbath Rest that we’re talking about in the New Testament is that time in life when you and I rest from our works, just as He did from His, and we have to realize the truth that when Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, there were about 1,100,000 of them, and how many people entered into the Promised Land? Two. Two out of 1,000,001 entered into a Sabbath Rest, resting from their works, just as God did from His. In the Christian world today, we are told, “Don’t neglect this Sabbath rest, resting from your works. Quit trying to add to what God did. That a guy on the radio the other night talking about oh we got to be holy got to be holy got to be holy said friend you’ve already been made holy and you can’t improve on that and yet we’re out trying to improve on it we say to people and many times just verbiage God bless you the issue is you’re already blessed we ought to just be saying, “God has blessed you. We ask God for what He’s already given us. We ask, “Oh God, be merciful to us. He already is merciful to us. He was so merciful to us that He sent His Son to do what? Take away the sins of the world, and that means yours, and it means mine.

And so it says that if those sacrifices could have made you and me complete worship, perfect. Those who draw near to worship, if it could, would they not stop being offered? If it could do it, don’t need any more. Just like with Jesus, you don’t need any more. No more sacrifice, for the worshippers would have been cleansed once and for all, and no longer felt guilty for their sins. But these sacrifices were an annual reminder of sins, because it’s impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Now, guys, was it possible for the blood of bulls and goats to cover sins? That’s was what was that called in the Old Testament? Atonement. Atonement is not used in the New Testament. Atonement is a covering. Jesus did not come to atone for sins. He came to do something far greater than that. He came to take away sins, take it away from the eyes of God, never to see it again. Did we deserve that? No. Could we earn it? Can you deserve it? No. You just accept it by what’s called faith, and it’s not faith in me and what I’m doing. It’s faith in Him and what He’s doing.
You have two objects of faith. You have basically many times in the Old Testament of God saying to someone, “Do this, and by faith they did it. Jonah, Noah, those kind of things, stories that we know. But the true faith is putting your faith in what He has done, not putting your faith in what I have done, because until I put my faith in what He has done, how much benefit is that to put my faith in what I’m doing? And so you see, we have to understand the fact, guys, that the emphasis of God is on what He has done, not on what I’m doing, because what I’m doing, I don’t think, as I’ve said before, impresses God that much at all, I don’t think he’s looking down. Quite frankly, just real impressed with you and me. But I’ll tell you who he is impressed with: his Son. And he’s impressed with you and me when we put our faith in who he’s impressed with, and that’s his Son, Jesus.
And so these worshippers he’s talking about would have been cleansed once and for all, no longer had felt guilty for their sins. But these sacrifices we’re told are an annual reminder of sins, because it’s impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sin. Cover it, yes. Take it away, no. Therefore, when Christ came into the world, He said, “Sacrifice and offerings you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me. There changes, I think a body you prepared for me with burnt offerings and sin offerings, you were not pleased, although the law required them to be made. And then he said, “Here I am. It’s written about me in the scroll. I have come to do your will. That’s Jesus. I have come to do your will, O God. First he said, sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them. Although he says the law required them to be made, why? Because the law was there to represent and the priesthood to represent God to man, and that was because of our sins. So it was required to be made. So it says day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties again and again and again and again and again. He offers the same sacrifices that can never what? What can it do? Never take away sins. Cover them? Yeah, take them away? No. So the entire area that he gave to the HEBREWS was it good for the HEBREW people to have a sacrificial system such as that? It eased their conscience. I don’t think they could have lived without it, but it was not going to be the final.
And as I said, he had a plan, and it was launched on the day that Christ Jesus was born, so he said. But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, what did he do, guys? He sat down at the right hand of God. Why did he sit down? Because his work was over. That’s called rest. His work is over. In other words, like creation, there anything else I’m going to create, and like salvation, there ain’t anything I’m going to add to salvation. It’s all Jesus. Period. He’s not being narrow-minded. There was no one else who could shed his life for you and me except the one who had life. Adam was the first man created alive spiritually. Jesus is the only man ever born alive spiritually, the only man ever capable of laying his life down for you and me because he’s the only one ever had a life to lay down for you and me. Not being narrow-minded, just practical. When you’re dead spiritually, and there’s someone who was raised from the dead who said, “I came to give you life, it’s pretty practical to accept life or to remain dead, which doesn’t make much sense.
So he sat down, and since that time to this very day, he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool, because it says, “Guys, by one sacrifice, he has made perfect or complete forever those who are being made holy. Now I want to ask you a question: How many of you know right now that you’re holy in the sight of God? Yeah, and how do you know that? Because He made you that way. Now, does holy mean that you walk around, you know, with your looking half sick at your stomach, with your head kind of tilted? Is that what that means, or no? Holy, this means you’ve been set apart. God has set us apart, He says, by what His Word. What sets you apart as a born-again believer from the world is your knowledge of the Word of God. The Word of God living in you sets you apart from the world where it doesn’t live in them. And so, what sets you apart is you have the Word of God living in you. You have Christ living in you. You have the Holy Spirit of God living in you. That’s precisely what we talked about last week. That from a Christian standpoint, the most important day of the year is Pentecost. The greatest celebration that we ought to be celebrating is the day that the Spirit of God came to give me life. We talk about the day that the physical life of Jesus was given to us, praise God for that. But as far as I’m concerned, the fact that He was raised from the dead so that on the day of Pentecost He could give mankind life, and you and I are the recipient of that, should be the most exciting day of our lives-the day that we celebrate, the day that Christ Jesus came to take up residence in our life.
Now the Holy Spirit also, he says, testifies about this. He says, “This is a covenant I’ll make with them after that time, says the Lord. I’ll put my laws in their hearts. And guys, that are not-that’s not the laws of Moses. Wherever you see law in the scriptures, it always refers to the law of Moses. When this was translated in Hebrews, because this is a quote out of the Old Testament where it says laws, when it is laws law in the Old Testament, when it was translated in the New Testament, it says laws. Did he misquote it? No, he didn’t say I’m going to put the law of Moses in your heart. You already know the law of Moses. I’m going to put the laws of Jesus in your heart. Love your God with all your heart, your mind, and soul, and to love your neighbor as yourself. And upon these two hinges the fulfillment of all of the laws of the prophets. It’s strange, isn’t it? The only place where that’s translated laws is in the Book of Hebrews. Laws, plural, instead of law, Moses. The laws of love. This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I’ll put my laws of love in their hearts, and I’ll write them on their minds, and then he adds their sins and lawless acts. I will remember how long, no more. And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sins.

How many of you believe that in the sight of God you’re perfect? I mean, complete. Yeah, because perfect means I’m perfect, and complete means I’m complete. It means there ain’t anything God is going to do to me over and above what He’s already accomplished. There’s no further salvation to give to me. There’s no further righteousness to give to me. I’ve got all He’s going to give me. There’s no further holiness that I can get through my good deeds and actions. I’m going to rest in the fact that although I did not deserve it and I could not earn it, that God made me holy in His sight.
