Jesus Came to Explain What the Word of God Means

~ There are those walking around today that can spout out the word of God left and right and still don’t have a clue what the word of God means. They are dead lost. In fact, they will live their lives as though God is telling them to kill Goliath, when in reality God has a new set of commands that very few obey; believing in Jesus. Many still pick and choose from the old testament, certain things that God said. They act like Moses, when God told Moses to speak to the rock for water, and instead he struck the rock twice [Numbers 20:7-12].

~ “But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.” ^{Acts 16:38-34}

Now, if God came to this earth for the purpose of us having a knowledge as to who God is, and having a knowledge of how you get saved, in the event you understand that we’re lost in it pretty important to know who’s talking to you? How many of you last night saw the television program on religion that was I forget what channel was on and ABC, that program, you had all kinds of people on there. And you had some pretty good born again, believers on there. And then you had some real smart guys. And I tell you any religion that says that you only one way to get to God, I don’t want any part of that. And I talked to him, he didn’t hear me but I was talking to him on the television screen there. And I said a few things to him, it’s probably a good thing that he didn’t hear. Well as a man with a stone head, and a stone heart, and no knowledge at all as to who Jesus is, even though he mentions the name of Jesus. Jesus doesn’t want us to just be walking around saying, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, he wants to know who that Jesus is. He wants you to know who he is. And he wanted you to know who he is. And that’s why he went through these things with these people. You’re a mere man, you’re claiming yourself to be God, we have no doubt at all as to what Jesus and who Jesus was claiming he was. They heard him loud and clear, claiming himself to be God.

As we said last week, there’s only three options to that either he was an imposter, knowing full well that he isn’t God and yet claiming he was, or else he was a total madman who thought that he was God, when indeed he isn’t which attuning to be a looney tune. Or he’s God, a man making that kind of a claim is either an imposter. Or he’s a looney tune. Or he’s who he claims to be God, you cannot have any other option on that. You say, Well, he’s a good teacher, how can a looney tune be a good teacher? How can an imposter be a good teacher? Those are not qualifications for getting hired in the Dallas educational system is to be a looney tune or an imposter. He claimed himself to be God, these people heard him claim who he was claiming himself to be God, and are picking up stones to stone him. Now he answered this in a strange way. He said, Is it not written in your law? That in the in the Old Testament and psalms that I have said that you’re god’s? Now again, in England, what do they call some of those people? Lords, don’t they? Lord, Baron Lord, this Lord this it’s another name for ruler. And so he’s saying that they’ve called you gods, and if they call them Gods or rulers, to whom the Word of God came, and the Scripture look at this, folks, cannot be broken. Do you think Jesus testified to the fact that the scripture is inerrant and cannot be broken? She just said it, the scripture cannot be broken. So we know when we have in our hands, we’ve got the word of God. And he says, if those Scriptures said, What about the one whom the Father said apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, I’m God’s Son? Don’t believe me, unless I do, unless I do what my Father does. But if I do it, even though you don’t believe me, believe the miracles if you’re not gonna believe, these testimony that I’m giving about myself, which is backed up by watching and seeing the works of God, well then believe but the miracles that you’ve seen, that you may know and understand. Does God want you and me to know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I am in the Father to know that about Jesus? Do you think Jesus wants us to know and understand he just telling us, I want you to know and understand that when you’ve seen me, you’ve seen the Father, I want you to know and understand that it is not narrow for me to say, there’s no other way to heaven, except through me. That’s not narrow. It’s just plain truth. You may not want to believe it. But your lack of believing of it is not going to help you on Judgement Day. Because I am telling you that I came from the Father, no one has seen the Father except the only begotten Son of the Father, who is at the Father’s side, I am God. And I am telling you that I was sent by God the Father to this earth to show you and to tell you and to help you to come alive spiritually. And I want you to know and I want you to understand that the Father is in Me and I am in the Father.

And again, after all of his testimony. They tried to seize him, to stone him to death. Isn’t that something, looking God squarely in the face, seeing the most loving man that ever walked on the face of this earth, a man that had wisdom coming out of his mouth that they would stand and say, I’ve never heard words like this before in my life, I do not understand this. And yet standing and looking in his face, and wanting to seize Him, and to stone him to death.

We have people today, in the same boat, you can sit and listen about Jesus. The only difference between them then, and us now, is you could stood in front of him and see him, but the same words coming out of his mouth than are coming out of his mouth now through His Word. The only difference is you’re not looking at him. You’re just hearing what he said to them, meaning this is also applicable to you. What are you doing with it? You ignoring him yawning and saying, Well, maybe next week? Or is your heart open to the fact of saying maybe if this Jesus is saying something about himself that I don’t know. And he’s also said something about me that I’ve been ignoring, maybe I’d better get busy and quit ignoring what he’s saying about me. And to come to truth, and be saved.

Jesus went back across the gorge Jordan to a place where John had been baptizing in the early days. And here he stayed, and many people came to them. And they said, though John never performed a miraculous sign. All that John said about this man is true. It’s not only am I hearing this from Jesus, but I heard it from John talking about this man. And everything that John the Baptist said about Jesus is true. And in that place, it says, many people believed in him. Folks are testimonies about Jesus is invaluable. Because many times we talk to somebody about Christ Jesus, and they don’t respond. And then another time they hear somebody else talking about Christ Jesus, and they say, that’s the same message that John told me. That’s the same message that ole Bill was telling me. And they respond.

I remember a number of years ago, when I was working as the evangelism director and developing this, I found a campaign working down at First Baptist Church, and we were doing a campaign down there. And training people continually. We trained hundreds of people during this campaign. And I remember that this one girl came in, and a very cute girl, very nice girl had two beautiful little children. And she came to the Lord was going through the training. And one, after the training was over, sat down with me one day and was talking about the fact as to how she and her husband were divorced. And she said that she realized that she hadn’t been the best wife in the world, and he had been the best husband in the world. And she said, I have since I’ve come to the Lord, I’ve been wondering, was this a mistake that I made? And, and and you know, maybe, maybe we ought to get back together something. And so I said, Well, let me ask you a question is, has he remarried? No, I don’t think so. But I don’t know. I’ve heard from him. I think she said four or five years. I’ve heard from him for five years. I don’t know whether she’s married or not. And I said, Well, why don’t you see if you can get a hold of him and at least talked to him about the Lord, tell him that you’re not calling to be getting the marriage back together, but calling to be reconciled. God didn’t say I don’t want all men to be reconciled one to another. So you may not want to get remarried, but at least let’s be reconciled and be friends. And so she she didn’t know whether she could do that or not. But she was open. She said, I don’t know what’s going on inside me because I haven’t had this in five years. But all of a sudden, I’m just feeling like maybe got these kids here, we ought to get back together.

So it wasn’t too many days later that I called and said, Mr. George said you’ll never believe what happened. She said I the only person that I knew that might know where he is or was is his grandmother. They were very close. So after we left had the seminar was over on Saturday on Sunday, I called the grandmother and said, you know, talk for a while and finally said Do you happen to know where the husband is? And she said, Well, yeah, see you sitting right here that the table, talking to me. Would you like to talk to him? Well, yeah, I got on the phone started talking to him, talking to him that I don’t know why I’m calling outside of the fact that I feel that we should be reconciled. We have children together, you haven’t seen them. And I’ve come to Christ. And I know Jesus as my Lord and Savior. And I’ve come to know the forgiveness that was in Christ Jesus for me, and I want you to know that I’ve forgiven you. And this guy says, I don’t know what the heck’s happening. He probably didn’t say, heck, when you see, I didn’t know what was happening. He said, I go to work. He was an auto mechanic, and I’m under a car and here’s some guy babbling to me about Jesus, under the car with me. And he said, I go into inside to check out somebody, there’s somebody standing there at the counter telling me about Jesus. And now, I’m talking to you in five years, and you’re telling me about Jesus. So, I don’t know what’s going on.

We were going to do another seminar the following week. I said, Why don’t you call him back and ask him to come to the seminar? Said, Okay, she called him a week later, the seminar showed up. Here he was. The little kids just so happy. You couldn’t believe how happy they were to see their daddy. He came to Jesus. About three weeks later, I’m married. I got teenagers today. Back together. What happened? Testimonies; those guys under the cars, we’re talking about Jesus, he didn’t come to Jesus, but some was registry. person standing at the counter is talking about him didn’t come to Jesus was registering. But finally, somebody said something about Jesus. And it all started registering. That’s why your testimony is never without never such a thing as a failing testimony. There’s never such thing of sharing Jesus with somebody and having a failure. That’s why results are never in our hands. Results are always in the hands of God. All he wants us to do is to be available to just to communicate truth to people. And those kinds of stories are multiplied all over the world when people get available to Christ Jesus.

So his testimony was vital. The testimony of John the Baptist was vital. And then when they finally heard Jesus, they put all of it together. So folks, don’t ever be afraid to respond to people with the with the words of God. The words of God are powerful than a two edged sword. They divide us sunder soul from Spirit they penetrate and you never know when they’re hitting home. But there’s no such thing as I said as a failure in a witnessing opportunity.

Now Jesus is talking about miracles. He’s done a number of miracles up to now but it says now a man named Lazarus was sick and he is from Bethany the village of Mary and her sister Martha. And this Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick was the same one who had poured perfume on the Lord had wiped His feet with her hair. A person who obviously had come to adore the Lord Jesus Christ. So Mary and Martha, sisters, they sent the word to Jesus saying, Lord, you’re the only the one whom you love is sick. Jesus and Lazarus were friends. So when he heard this, Jesus said, this sickness will not end in death. No, it’s for God’s glory. So the God’s Son may be glorified through it. There’s a reason for this sickness. Jesus loved Martha and her sister, and Lazarus. And yet, when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was for two more days. And then he said to his disciples, let’s go back to Judea. But Rabbi, they said, A short while ago, the Judeans tried to stone you and yet you’re going back there. And Jesus said, Are there not 12 hours of daylight, a man who walks by day will not stumble for you sees or he sees by the world’s light. And it’s written that when he walks by night that he stumbles for he has no light. And after he had said this, he went on to tell them our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep. But I’m going there to wake him up. Now his disciples replied, Lord, if he sleeps, he’ll get better. It’s gotta like saying. Oh, that’s good Lord. You know, when a man sleeps, he’s gonna get better, always thinking on a physical level. And Jesus, however, said, had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep. In the Scripture, when you see a person has gone to sleep, we would, whereas sometimes as dense as the disciples were, and we’re thinking that just talking about going to sleep waking up, no, when it talks about going to sleep, it’s talking about death, Jesus just defined that for us. I was talking about a person going to sleep, it means he’s died. They thought he went to sleep. So then he told them playing late Lazarus, Lazarus is dead. And for your sake, I’m glad that I was not there. So that you may believe, but let’s go to him. And then Thomas called Dinamos said to the rest of his disciples, let us also go that we may die with him. In other words, this guy’s gonna go in there and get crucified. So let’s just go with him. And we’ll all just go at the same time.

On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus, had already been the tomb for four days, he had died was in the tomb wrapped up. And Bethany was less than two miles from Jerusalem. And many Judeans had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother. When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home. Lord, Martha said to Jesus, if you would have been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask. Jesus said to her, Your brother will rise again. And Mary answered again, on a very she knew scripture, and she said, I know he’ll rise again in the resurrection. And at the last day, I know that. And Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection. We’re not talking about a day in the future. I am, not I will be or I was, but I am the resurrection and the life. And whosoever believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever lives and believes in me, will never die. Do you believe this?

My friends, the Lord Jesus Christ identified himself in the most descriptive way, humanly possible to us. I know there’s going to be a resurrection in the future. He said, No, no, no, you don’t understand. I am the resurrection. Where I am, resurrection will occur, not going to occur, it will occur. Where Jesus is, is resurrection. You don’t have to wait till Easter. He is the resurrection, I am the resurrection and the life and whosoever believes in me though he were dead spiritually, yet shall he lives spiritually. And whoever lives and believes in me will never die. What a promise. On the day that you were born again. Where was Jesus? He was there. Was he not? Could you have been born again apart from Jesus being there? And he’s the resurrection, what happened when you were born again? You were raised from the dead. Were you not? Were all of you dead? Was I dead? Before I was alive? All of us were. Well, why am I alive today unless I experienced resurrection? And who raised me? Jesus. Why? He was there. He is the resurrection, that didn’t set him it’s gonna happen. It’s something that did happen. The day you were born again, you were raised from the dead. Is that right or wrong guys? You were raised from your spiritual death, to spiritual life, by the one who came to give you life. And he is the resurrection. You don’t have to wait in a day down yonder. If you’re sitting in this room today, or within the sound of my voice, and you do not know the life of Christ Jesus, He is right in front of you, right now waiting for you to open the door. And to come in. He’s the resurrection. And he’s the source of resurrection. And he will raise any person on the face of this Earth man and woman boy and girl whose heart has been open to say, Lord Jesus, I now understand I didn’t know my condition of death, of spiritual death. And I believe you when you say that I was born dead. And if I’m dead, and you came to give me life, that I’m asking you to come into my heart and to give me life. I thank you that when I receive you into my heart, the forgiveness that was provided 2000 years ago at the cross for me in the whole world, I now have received, it’s now become a part of me in him, you have redemption, that forgiveness of sins, and I am now in you and that forgiveness has now applied to me. And you’re born again, new creature in Christ. Born Again, what do you say about it? You will never die. Does that mean physically? No, these bones are going to the ground. But you will never die spiritually. If you are alive today, sitting in this room alive spiritually, you will never die. That’s why it says go to sleep. When you and I die, this body dies, but the inside never dies. Do we understand that? The only thing you see when you look at a corpse is the house has been destroyed. The house is dead. But the real you go someplace. And the real you either goes into the presence of God because you want to go there. That’s where you wanted to go. And if you go to hell, it’s because that’s where you want it to go. So you’d be with your friends. A person who denies hell denies heaven. That would be like denying light. If you’ve never been in darkness. How would you know? Or you never seen light? How would you know what light was if you all you lived in was darkness? And so that’s our choice. It isn’t something a being narrow minded guys, as as we as Christians are claimed to be narrow minded, bigoted, judgmental people. That’s not the truth. You’re not judging anyone. You’re saying you got a choice. I had a choice. I could have chosen not to accept Jesus, I could have chosen to accept him thank God for His mercy that allowed me to say yes.

How many of you remember the day you were born again? How many of you kind of had a struggle in that? I felt like that there was a devil on one side and an angel on the other was a battle going on a battle for my soul, and God won. And we have to understand the truth of that, folks, that we’re not talking about their own narrow minded religious stuff. We’re talking about a very, very practical issue. We’re not talking about an issue of, of religion, that that all religions will get you to God, they’ll get you to God, maybe depend on whose god you’re talking about. But not the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, not the God who came to this earth, the person of Jesus Christ and said, no one will come to the Father except through me. So you must have a different god that you’re going to go to because Mohammed cannot bring life to you. Buddha cannot bring life to you. The Baptist can’t bring life to you. The Catholics can’t bring life to you. People to People can’t bring life to you. There’s only one person that could give you life. And that’s the one who possesses life and that’s Christ Jesus. We can be used as instruments. But we cannot give life. That’s a very practical issue, guys. If you want to remain dead, then keep believing garbage. But if you want to come alive, there’s only one way to do it. That’s through Christ Jesus our Lord. Not talking to somebody not asking anybody to join a church or join a religion. Not saying to somebody wants you to come and be with all with us. That’s not the issue. The issue is, do you want to be with Jesus? I don’t care where you park your body on Sunday. Do you want to be with Jesus on Monday, and Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday and Friday and Saturday? We’re here in a fellowship of believers. We’re here because we want to be no one coerces you to be no one forces you to be. And there’s a Cowboy game on today. And I’m gonna make a promise to you right now that I will get you out in time for the second half. So you’re here because you want to fellowship with believers. You’re here because you want to hear the message of truth. So folks, Jesus is the only way to God and that’s what he’s trying to say to us. So he’s trying to say to the whole world why are we so rebellious? Maybe it’s because of what we see sometimes in Christianity. How many of you have ever felt like you know, I’m sometimes more comfortable around lost people and am say people, how many have ever felt that way? I’ve got my hand up. I’ve got people that I know that are strong born again, believers, you never want to see it. They said I’d rather do business with anybody except a believer. That’s sad. That should not be.
