Classic Christianity – Book of Hebrews P54 (01-16-24)

The Just Shall Live By Faith

~ When we receive Christ it is by faith. We place faith that Jesus took away our sins on the cross, and that he was raised from the dead so that he could place his Spirit into us, and raise us from the dead also. So once you are in Christ, and He is in you, Scripture tells us to live the same way, by Faith. God will do in and through you what you cannot do yourself. He begins to renew your mind immediately, because he makes you a new creature in Christ. The old is gone, and the new has come. Don’t let Satan or anyone else place you on the treadmill of grunting and groaning for Christ. It’s a lie. We learned yesterday that we can do NOTHING for Christ, Nothing. Faith is believing Truth and properly responding to Truth. Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness. We are to be the same way today. And furthermore, because we live on this side of the cross, and the Holy Spirit indwells every believer, He will strengthen your faith. Trust in Him to do it. And turn off the programming of the world. If you want to concentrate on something, it takes full attention to that which is important, the word of God. Details matter in everything. Yet when a person mixes Truth with the lies of Satan and the world, it makes a person double-minded and unstable in all ways. And most people would rather listen to their favorite pastor or teacher that is teaching a whole bunch of lies and error than they would to dive into the word of God and have the Holy Spirit show them what it ALL means.

And don’t let anyone try to convince you that there are two means of salvation. One for the Hebrew and a different one for the gentile. For that teaching is a lie from Satan. Yet there are many that are spreading the lie for Satan and it is becoming a new popular teaching that many are falling for, and it throws away half of the word of God today (saying the Hebrew is saved differently than the gentile). There is only one means of salvation, and it is the same for both the Hebrew and the gentile. Faith in Jesus. It is Faith from first to last. We live by the same faith that saved us.

~ Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.” The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him alone, but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. Romans 4:18-25

~ “For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” Romans 1:17

~ “Now let’s turn back again to the book of Romans chapter five. Let’s go back up to Chapter four for a minute, we’re gonna pick up in verse 18. And going down to five. against all hope, Abraham in hope. So we were talking about hope believed and so became the father of many nations just as it had been said to him, so shall your offspring be. Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead since he was about 100 years old. And it says Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and he gave glory to God. Being fully persuaded that God had the power to do what He had promised. That is why it was credited to him as righteousness. These words that was credited to him were written not for him alone. But for us also, not written just to the Hebrew it’s written to everybody. It was credited to him as righteousness. Why? Because they believe God, to whom God will credit righteousness for us who believe Him who raised Jesus, our Lord from the dead. He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ through whom we have gained access by that faith into the grace in which we now stand. We came to Christ by grace we live by grace, we live by faith in the grace of God. We came to Christ that way. We live that way.” ~ Bob George

Bob George 0:29
We’re flexible little creatures down here. Fragile as can be. Not only our bodies fragile, so our nerves and our nerve points and our sensitivities because somebody’s insulted me. God forbid we’re sensitive, insecure, little rabbits run around, trying to act like we’re something that we’re not. Now folks that would be a pretty negative message of one for Christ would. Because the only solution to that is try harder, work harder. study harder. And the grace of God says, Trust is so sweet to trust in Jesus. Just to take him at his word. Now this is what the book of Hebrews is trying to get us to see, that the grace of God is not just going to get you to see the grace of God. The grace of God has got to get you to see our own depravity. It’s only when we see Him in His glory that we can see us and our depravity. I’m not talking about being depraved to the point that you can understand or seek God, man all over the world seeks God. I’m talking about being depraved in regard to the point that apart from me, or in and of myself, there’s nothing that in and of myself I can do to please God. That comes from a relationship with this Jesus that the author of Hebrews is talking about the one greater than the angels, the one greater than Moses, the one greater than Joshua, the one greater than priests, the one greater than Melchizedek. But the one who has God himself who came to this earth and walked on this earth, in order to teach us truth that would set us free. Man thinks that we can go it alone, we think we can build marriages on our own. And my idea of a successful marriage is Amy and family doing everything I want to do. I mean, that’s a real successful marriage, I just get my wife do everything I want to do successful marriage, wives do the same thing. If I just get my husband do anything I want to do got successful marriage. There’s only one problem with that doesn’t work. A marriage is two people I like sheep, for to say called dumb sheep. Both of us want to do our own thing. And there’s only one thing folks that will ever pull two dumb sheep into unity. And that’s somebody in between. And that happens to be the shepherd of the sheep. And that’s the Lord Jesus Christ, you take him out of your family, you’re on your own. You are on your own. And your marriage is gonna look like a marriage that was put together on your own. There’s no two people on the face of this earth, that can get together, continually apart from Jesus. Oh, you can go through the motions, live together, exist together. But to have what God wanted to have as a marriage of unity, it cannot be done apart from him in the center of your life. You don’t have a decision maker in your home, you’re the decision maker, right or wrong is irrelevant. This is where I want it. And when Christ is the center of your home, you approach problems is what is truth from his standpoint. And that is what pulls you together down here. There is no marriage that will survive, apart from Christ at the center of it. That’s what he’s trying to get us to see individually and collectively. If you’re an individual, that’s true. And in marriage, he says, I see the two of you as what? One. So it’s the same thing. Apart from me, you can do nothing. We’re in an age of entertainment. We’d rather take our kids to get entertained than we want to get them taught truth. We pick our churches that way, who’s got the best entertainment program for the kids. That’s where I will send them so there’ll be happy. Doesn’t make a difference where they’re getting a truth or not. Just let them have some fun. Because that’s what we live for fun. And so we build Disney lands, and we build Christian Disney lands. So that our kids can have fun and never learned that. We went to church for years, my daughter finally had to steal a Bible out of the church, hopefully to take it home to see if there’s anything in it. No, no, I’m serious.

My friends, when we see that the grace of God is the only thing in the world that is ever going to point us to truth about him. And in so doing point us to the truth about ourselves. That is the only thing when we see those two things, the glory of him and the fact that apart from him, I can do nothing which shows us what we are, that we are now in a position of saying, I’m ready as the Lord Jesus Christ learned obedience from what he suffered because it’s in our sufferings that we learn. We talked about that last week, in regard to the book of Hebrews, that suffering is what produces perseverance. We absolutely raise our kids like idiots trying to protect them from any kind of problems, trials tribulations, where the fact of the matter is that the Bible says it’s those trials and tribulation that produces character that apart from character, what are we? And if you don’t let your kids fall on their face while they’re at home, I’ll guarantee you they will when they’re at college. And the difference is there’s no one there at college to pick them up. So let them fall on their face when they’re at home. Like we don’t want anything to happen to my precious ones. Because they’re mine. Pride isn’t it folks. Were soaked with it. I don’t want my kid ever have any because they’re my kid wouldn’t care if his your kid had some problems, but not mine. Why? Because of pride.

Now folks, He learned obedience from what he suffered. And it became the source of eternal salvation, folks. Jesus is the source of your salvation. You don’t have anything to do with maintaining it. He maintains it, all we do is receive it. Who is the source of the water you get out of your fountain? At home? Where’s the source of that? Oh, water company, and what do you do work at getting some water? You just go there and turn the thing on? Don’t you know how you get water? Get ready to shower. You don’t sit there and work at it, do you? You just turn on the faucet because there’s a source of water available to you. And some, you know, some people get to nitpicks that, turn it on is work. Come on friends, faith isn’t work, just plain intelligence. If you know there’s a source of water in there, and you can’t produce water on your own, that’s worth washing in. The thing that you better do is go turn on a faucet. Is that true or not? The water is the source of that one. You didn’t laugh, it’s okay. It was meant to be fun. The water company is the source. All we do is turn it on. That’s all just receive it. The difference is that we got pay for that service, we don’t have to pay for the source of salvation. But he alone is it.

Now let’s turn back again to the book of Romans chapter five. We live that way. We stand in it. You see, folks, it’s back to that deal. A little dab will do you. It isn’t a little dab of do you’re alive in Christ because of the grace of God. I don’t need a little grace when I sin. I need total grace to be alive. Not only so but we rejoice in our sufferings because we know that suffering produces perseverance and perseverance, character and character hope and hope does not disappoint us because God has poured out His love into our hearts by His Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. You see it just the right time when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man though For a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates His love toward us. In a while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Now since we have become or been justified by His blood, that’s his life. The life is in the blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him? For if when we were God’s enemies, we were passed tense, reconciled to him through the death of his son? How much more having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life? Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation, to receive it, to be reconciled to God now turned back again to second Corinthians 5:17. We’ll pick up there again, if anyone is in Christ, he has a new creation. Why is it a new creation? Because he’s in Christ. The old is gone. You without Christ living it yet a guy’s gone. The new has come, who’s new? Christ living in you, your only hope of glory. All of this folks, every ounce of it is from God. If it’s all from God, how much is there for you? It’s all from God, where you enter into that? If the total source of the water supply is the power company, what do you where do you enter into that? If you want some water, what’s all you can do? Again, receive it’s the same thing. All of this is from God, who he’s the initiator, the source reconciled as to Himself through Christ. And he gave us this ministry of reconciliation. What is this ministry? That God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself, not counting men’s sins against him. That’s the message.

Bob George 14:19
God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself, not counting men sins against him who took the initiative there. Who’s the source of that? God. What do we have to do with it? Nothing. Receive it. Take a shower, get a drink, wash your dishes. Receive it. We are there for Christ’s ambassadors is as though God, we’re here making his appeal through us folks. It’s an appeal of God. I implore you on Christ’s behalf, they give you the reconciled to God. He has reconciled you unto himself be reconciled to him. As he said, For he’s taken it off of his accounts receivables, take it off your accounts payable, realize it’s all him and none of you realize you don’t have one earthly thing to do with getting forgiven. The people that hang on to this forgiveness mentality that I’m forgiven because I asked to be forgiven, and we’re going Oh God, please forgive me, please forgive me. He’s saying I already did. is a person who thinks I’m 90% Okay, but I need 10% of grace of Jesus in order to remain forgiven. I just need a little grace when I mess up. So I asked God to forgive me. So I next exercise grace on that, sin that idea, that little tiny one. And now I’m okay again. Because we think that we’re righteous if we don’t sin. There is no man righteous because he doesn’t sin. He’s righteous because God gave him his righteousness. I’m not righteous in the sight of God because I sin or I don’t sin. I’m righteous in the sight of God because of a new creature in Christ, Christ lives in me, He is the righteous one. You and I have been imputed God’s righteousness. It is because of God that you are in Christ Jesus who has become for you your righteousness. We are clothed in the righteousness of Christ. People that’s one of the things that people talk about the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Godhead, thank God but you gotta understand what he did. He didn’t come to bring glory unto himself. He came to bring glory to Christ, He came to point us to Christ to take the things of Christ and making it known unto us. It also said he came to convince the world wrong about sin and righteousness about righteousness, because I go to the Father, will you see me no more, it’s my righteousness. And many times people with an emphasis are trying to create your righteousness. This is what you do to be righteous. The Holy Spirit of God points us to Christ Who alone is our righteousness. And so we’re says Be reconciled. See yourself you’re not 90% okay and need 10% of grace, you’re nothing okay, I need 100% of grace of Christ, who is your life? How much life do you need to be alive? A little bit? Folks, your idea of the life of Christ living in us the grace of God living in as I mentioned on the radio is like a runner. He thinks when I’m out there jogging. You know, I need some air got news for you need some air when you’re sleeping. You don’t need some air when you’re jogging. You need it to live. I need a little grace out there. I’m not doing too good. I’m kind of huffing and puffing. Well, I got news for you. You need it when you’re not huffing and puffing. For me to live, is Christ. For me to die, that’s gain. It’s all him. It’s none of us. Why does he implore us to be reconciled to God? To see that? Because, folks, if you can’t catch on to the finality of the cross, how in the world do you think you’re going to catch on to the reality of the resurrection? How do you think that you’re going to continually be going into the presence of God calling him Abba, Father, if it’s up to you to keep your slate clean? If it’s up to you to keep your slate clean, how you got to know for sure it’s clean? If it’s up to you to keep your sins confessed, in order to get them forgiven, what are you gonna do when you might miss one? And you know, there’s literally people that teach that that when you ask that question, so guess the grace of God pick up on that. In case you forget one grace covers that one, doesn’t cover it, if you remember it. So in other words, it’s by your memory that will be saved through faith. If he didn’t come to take them all away, which ones do leave? And if he left one on that cross, what do you conclude about the cross? He lied when he said, it’s finished. That’s why folks, if we can’t be reconciled to God in regard to what he came to do that we could have stood there and watched him do and looked at him do how in a world do you think we can walk by faith in the invisible Christ Jesus who’s alive living in us today? That’s our only hope of glory. When we don’t finalize the cross that kicks off a works mentality. It kicks off a philosophy that I’m really basically okay. But I do admit that I need 10% of grace every time I sin. That’s a lie. And that lie will keep you in bondage. That’s why I said you’ve been reconciled, folks, why don’t you just claim it. Don’t just walk in it. Why don’t you realize that you don’t need a little grace when you sinned? You need a lot of grace just to be alive. And that grace of God covers everything. Where sin abounds, grace, more abounds. You can’t have sin, the grace of God. It’s all here. And absolutely none of us.

Now turn back to Hebrews. It says we have so much more to say about this. But it said, it’s hard to explain because you’re slow to learn. Think about this folks in your own life. Are we slow to learn? You think about how long has God been trying to teach you and me truth. In fact, it says, By this time, you ought to be teachers. As much as you know, by this time, you ought to be helping others. Instead of that we’re still sitting trying to soak it in. But instead of that, you need to be taught the elementary truth of God’s word all over again. Why do you need to keep learn the elementary truths of God’s word all over again, because you’ve never grown in maturity. And the reason we have it is because we’ve never laid the foundation, we’re still messing around with the foundation. How in the world could I ever grow in the life of Christ? When for the years, I was still messing around with the death of Christ? I never finalized it. I was never reconciled to God still asking God every time I said, Oh, God, please forgive me. Please forgive me, please forgive me. And he was saying, What do you think I did at that cross? How do you think you’re gonna grow in his life if you can’t have faith in His death? And so until we move off of the elementary teachings, how can we mature. So Paul said, I’d like to be able to, to teach you as mature people, but you’re slow to learn, you won’t grab on to it, we will not latch on to it because we want to be 80% okay, with a little bit of Jesus. I said you can, it doesn’t gotta gonna affect your salvation. It’s just gonna mean you’re gonna be a baby all your life. A baby Christian all your life. He said, I wish that I could go on. You ought to be teaching by now you ought to be reaching out to other people by now. And I want to tell you folks, by the time this book was written, that wasn’t too many years in the Lord, he was talking about either. You need milk, not solid food, you go back to the milk bar. Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. Still trying to do it himself. solid food is for the mature. Now, here, folks, is for the mature who by not gaining more knowledge, but by constant use, have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. How? By putting it into practice, by walking by faith in what God says, testing it, putting it into practice. We’ve grown up through usage. As I mentioned last week, if we’re 16 and we start copping out of facing problems, and you can cop out in all kinds of ways you can cop out through fantasizing. You can cop out on booze, you can cop out on drugs. You can cop out on emotional experiences. You can cop out on religious experiences. Just put my mind in neutral. Just let me just don’t don’t let me think. I’ve had some people sometimes the Confederate said Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, oh brother. Why have you walked up your dad and said Father, Father, Father, Father, Father, Father, Father? That’s copping out. That’s not facing reality. It’s not facing truth. It’s not applying truth to your life, it just a cop out. Now you do that at 16. When you have 16 year old problems, and you cop out at 16. When you get to be 26, you now have 26 year old problems. I have problems at 58 that I didn’t have when I was 18. I got problems like my mother dying and people that I know dying. I got big problems. I got 58 year old problems. Had I copped out at 16 I would be 58 in age and maturity of a 16 year old. And that’s why as we go through life if we don’t meet and confront problems maturely. And when I’m talking about maturely, I’m not talking about my own wisdom. I’m talking about realizing that apart from Christ, we can do nothing. To cast all my cares upon Him because he and he alone is the one who cares for me, of realizing that whether I’m 16 or 60, that apart from him, I can do nothing to realize that my wisdom is but foolishness to God, I don’t care whether you’re 16 or 65, we do not get smarter the older we get contrary to what people say. That maturity is when we come to see it’s all him anatomy and begin to put that into practice. Rely on him and trust him, just as Christ did, when even to the point of death, taking upon himself the sins of the world. The most atrocity that can happen to a man said, Father, not my will, but yours be done. And to be willing to trust him. In every circumstance of life, that’s maturity. And he says that where I should be able to be teaching you things to help you to go on with this, we’re still dabbling around with these elementary deals, and therefore are still babes in Christ. Instead of growing. It says, Therefore, let’s leave these elementary teachings about Christ. It’s not they’re not true. But let’s leave them, put them to bed and finalize them. Is it finished or isn’t it? I mean, has God reconciled you unto himself not counting your sins against him, as he done that are happening? Well, then, are you? Are you willing to say that’s over? Hey said, Okay, let’s leave that. And then let’s go on to maturity. And I hope there is anyone in here that still struggling with that that’s exactly what you will do today. And that is if you haven’t put that to bed if you haven’t been reconciled to God, because that’s all it is. A person still wanting to hang on to the first John one nine mentality, there’s only one problem. It’s not that he’s not saved, not a nice guy, not a wonderful person. It’s the fact that you’ve never been reconciled to God, you have never settled the reconciliation to God. That’s why it says be reconciled. Why? Well, because God made him a new, no sin to be sin for you so that in him you could become the righteousness of God, you don’t have anything to do with it. It’s all him and none of you. So be reconciled, so that you can go on to maturity. And, folks, if we can begin there, we’re going to see, as we continue to grow together as a body of Christ, God continue to produce in us what he calls the fruit of the Spirit, and that’s love and joy, and peace and patience, kindness, goodness, long suffering against these things, there is no law. And all of those qualities become more and more ours. As we learn to trust Him and Him alone.
