Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The Reality of The Resurrection P44 (03-09-22)

Anyone in Christ Jesus Has Eternal Life Right Now!

Reminder, we are reviewing a bit of yesterday’s teaching and we continue on with looking at A Closer Look at The Reality of The Resurrection. Follow along with Bob as we are finishing up on this amazing Bible study journey on the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This study is paramount in your understanding of your assurance of your salvation and in your assurance of faith. Listen in to today’s message , and pass the message on to others.

It’s in His resurrection. And again, I state what Paul stated so clearly, that without the resurrection we are still in our sins and to be pitied of all people, even though in His physical form He died for the forgiveness of sins. Had it not been for the resurrection there would have been no resurrected life available to you and me. And folks, the object of the cross, which was his death; was to be able to give us life through His resurrection. And so He said that I’m going to go away and when I do there’s something brand-new that’s going to occur on this world and in this world. That this body that you see physically is going to go away. But My body is still going to be on the Earth. Well, you can imagine saying, would you go over that again? Your body is going to go away. But your body’s going to be here. That doesn’t make a lot of sense. He said, I know you will not be able to understand it until you experience it. But on the day of Pentecost, he did something that Satan didn’t even know He was going to do. He sent his own life into believers. The Counselor. He called it, the Counselor is going to come to you because I am going to send Him to you. That is the Holy Spirit of God, the third person of the trinity. Now when the Spirit of God comes to live within us, which occurs at the very day of salvation, the Spirit of God comes to live within us permanently. If it wasn’t permanent why then it really couldn’t be called eternal life could it? And in our lesson in first John 5:11-13 were told, this is the testimony that God has given us eternal life. And this life is in his Son. So the life that He’s talking about is in His Son. If his Son’s life is eternal, and He’s given us His Son, we have eternal life. We have eternal Son life.

Now he who has that Son, has that life. And that is past tense and forever. He who does not have the Son of God does not have life. That is also true forever. Until you have the Son, you do not have life. Now if I don’t have life, it means that I’m dead. I can figure that out. Obviously, as Adam not dead, physically, and not dead soullessly, but dead spiritually. So he said I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. This was not a salvation passage. This is a passage of scripture to believers to let them know that you have a life called eternal life. Now if that was not important to God He wouldn’t have put it in here. And again, it’s outside of God’s love for you and me, it wouldn’t be that important to Him, whether you understood it or not. He’d just give it to you and let you flounder around down here, like a chicken with its head cut off if you wanted to and say, well, I know it’s a little sadistic but it’s kind of fun to watch you flapping around down there. So the reason that He communicated this to His body, those that have the Son that they have a life called eternal life is because the knowledge of that does something to you. It does something for you. It does something through you. It will captivate your life if you ever grab a hold of it and yet the large majority of the Christian world today believes that you can lose what God said is eternal.

Once again, man, blatantly whether it’s blatant or not I guess is not the issue either. Ignorant lie, blatantly rebellious, whatever. It might be standing in the face of Christ Jesus and saying, you are a liar. Your work at the cross was not completed. Your resurrection was not complete. You have left something for me to do. And if the life that You said that You gave me is eternal is not eternal, it’s only temporal and I can either walk away from it or I can lose it through sin or whatever, it might be You are a liar. And folks, whether you want to realize it or not, whether you like what you hear or not is not the issue. The issue is, that to call God a liar is to say that you do not have eternal life. That’s all it takes to call him a liar. Is the fact that I do not have eternal life. Now, if that eternal life is in his Son, then to lose eternal life what would you have to lose? Well you’d have to lose the Son. Because life is in the Son. Now, how are you going to lose a life of the Son? When the Son says, I will never leave you nor forsake you. So once again, let’s call Him a liar again when He says I’ll never leave you or forsake you, you say, oh no, You will leave me.

Isn’t it amazing what is taking place? It’s amazing to me. When I think about these unbelievable events of the cross and the resurrection and the implication of them, how man continually stands and denies the teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ. And ultimately too I realize that there are passages in the epistles and passages in some of the writings that would lead a person to say, well I wonder about that but when you look at it in context is that passage describing a lost person or is it describing a saved person? You’ll see that those doubtful passages are a passage to the lost not to the saved and you must interpret those passages in light of, in light of the grace of God, in which we stand today. How do you interpret those passages? You do not interpret a passage in light of the law of God. How do I interpret those passages? If you’re in Christ, you’re not under the law, you’re under the grace of God. In light of the grace of God how is this passage interpreted? And what people are doing is they are going to the obscure and attempting to interpret the obvious in light of the obscure instead of interpreting the obscure in light of the obvious. And that’s why there is so much confusion today in regard to this area called eternal security or our assurance in Christ Jesus.

The Spirit of God came to live in us forever to guide us into all truth. This is the truth that obviously, he’s wanting to guide us to. Otherwise, it would not have been testified to. and he would not have said I write these things to you, who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

As we are completing the last lesson in our series that we’re doing, we’ve come to this passage in 1st John 5:11-13 and we were just talking about. You know, it is interesting that the preface to that is the fact that you believe the testimony about man. But here’s God’s testimony. If you know isn’t it strange, anybody can come up with anything? You just believe it. In fact, we just love to hear rumors about people. We’ll just get there and just gobble it up and believe it. So he’s saying you’ll believe the testimony about man just as readily as anything in the world. Why don’t you believe the testimony about God? And he said, this is the testimony. Now folks, if you have your Bible to put a circle around, this is the testimony. Not a testimony. It’s the testimony. It’s like Jesus saying, I am the way, I am the truth, I am the life and no one comes to the Father, except through Me. He didn’t say, I am a way. He didn’t say, I am a truth. He didn’t say, I am a life. He said I am The Way. That means The Way. Now, this is the testimony. It didn’t say, this is a testimony. Let’s give a testimony that might be good today and not so good tomorrow, but let’s give one anyway, let’s call it a testimony. It’s not a testimony. This is the testimony about the new Testament that Jesus Christ ushered in, when he died on a cross, where on that crossed He who knew no sin gave His life for you. So that three days later raised from the dead, He could give his life to you. That’s salvation.

Now, this is the testimony about that Testament. This New Covenant that we live in. This is a new covenant that you’re going to, and we studied about in the book of Hebrews a New Covenant, a new will that could not and did not go into effect until the day that the one made it died. Just like a will of yours will not go into effect until the day you die by the same token a new will, a new agreement between God and man did not, could not, and will not go into effect until the day that He died. But on the day He died, having fulfilled the law with his physical life, upheld the law through his death, He now ushered in through His resurrection, a brand new covenant whereby He said their sins and their lawless acts I will remember no more. And where these have been forgiven there is no longer any sacrifice for sins. There is no more sacrifice for sins. That means there’s no more sacrifice for sins.

Now because there is no more sacrifice for sins, then it means that since it has been dealt with by God once and for all, not by man, we like to keep dealing with it. But by God once and for all, one sacrifice laid down on our behalf and by that one sacrifice, He made forever perfect in His sight you and me who are in Christ today. All of us who have been made holy in his sight, not by anything we did, only by everything that He did. Now folks that act on the cross is what enabled Him therefore through His resurrection to offer and to give to you and me a life called eternal life. Otherwise a life that He would have given us would have only lasted until the next day we sinned because if there was still a sacrifice for sins, then sin would still have to be paid for. That would mean the wages of sin is death. Life would have to be restored. We would have lost our life and back we would have been again to not just receive forgiveness, but we would have been again in order to receive life. And so, the whole act at the cross is what paved the way for the divine action to take place at the resurrection of the restoration of life to you and me who were dead as a hammer. And so the testimony was around the Testament around the New Covenant their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more so that I can now give you a life called eternal life. The only thing that could cause that life to depart from you would be sin. Same thing it was that caused the life to depart from Adam, sin, the life to depart from Jesus sin, who’s sin? Ours. Why can’t sin cause the life of God to depart from you? Because of the cross where He took it away, had He not taken it away, He would have given you a life called temporal life. He could never have called it eternal. So this is the testimony not a testimony. The testimony. Now folks, our only conclusion that you have to come to, is, am I going to believe God’s testimony? See he said, you really believe man’s testimony. And that’s what most of you are doing out there who are still doubting your salvation. You’re not believing God’s testimony. God didn’t testify to that. God said I’ll never leave you nor forsake you, and He said, I gave you eternal life. He said I gave you an eternal inheritance. Man comes along and says, no, and you want to believe, man, rather than God.

So there’s a lot of preachers who have a testimony, but that’s their testimony. But the testimony about God is the testimony. I may have a testimony, but that’s what it is, a man-made testimony, but it’s not the testimony.

life called eternal life. This life Is in His Son. Are you in Christ is Christ in you? Have you accepted Him by faith into your heart as your Lord and Savior. Did you come to the end of yourself and your own self sufficiency and turn to Him and Him alone? Because if you didn’t, there’s no way to be half saved. He didn’t come for a Brylcreem salvation, where just a little dab will do you. It’s when you come to the point of realizing, I’m not a little sinner, I’m a total sinner. I’m not a little messed up. I am totally messed up. It’s like going into and looking at a cadaver and saying, how messed up are you. It doesn’t matter, you’re dead and when you’re dead, that’s a pretty poor condition to being in. So you have to see your condition before you are ready to receive His provision. My condition, a sinner and sins, had to be totally taken away and forgiven. My condition dead, and death needs to be corrected by life. And by life alone. Now folks, this is the testimony God’s given you that life. And that life is in his Son. If you have the Son, you have the life. If you don’t have the Son, you don’t have the life. Very simple. You’re lost. These things now, He said I write to you and these are to you, who believe in the name of the Son of God. Believers. So that you may hope that you have eternal life? No, know, K N O W, know, you have eternal life. Did He say it or not folks? Do you know that you have eternal life? How do you know because you feel it? No, because He said it.

You see my friends, the reason you sometimes feel that you don’t have eternal life is because you think that you don’t have eternal life because feelings followed thought. And as long as you are thinking, the testimony about man, instead of the testimony about God, you’re going to be messed up in your thinking, and therefore your feelings. I cannot come to Christ and rest in my assurance based upon the testimony of man. The testimony of man can change all over the place. I’ve heard ministers and preachers and everyone else had come down and say, well, one time I used to believe this way, but now I believe this way. Well, that’s their testimony. And if you’re resting on his testimony, you’re resting on a very poor one. If you’re resting on my testimony, you’re resting on something that is not reliable. But if this is HIS testimony, this is the testimony that you can know that you have eternal life.

Now, in Hebrews 13:5, it says, never, will I leave you and never will I forsake you so keep your lives free saying from the love of money and be content with what you have. In other words, don’t look to the world for your contentment, look to your relationship with the Lord with, for your contentment, because He is the one who says, I will never leave you, nor will I ever forsake you.

Now, the testimony is also of the Spirit. You have the testimony of God, and now you have the testimony of the Spirit, who is also God, but now indwelling in you if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you, and as the scripture said, that if the Spirit of God does not live in you, you don’t belong to Him. You’ve never been born again. So if you’ve come to Him by faith, recognizing your condition, a sinner that had to be forgiven, dead, lost, that had to be found and given life to. And accept that provision just as simply as if you were starved to death, and I came up and handed you a hundred dollar bill and you received it. You would be the recipient of a hundred dollar bill. The difference is it would never fade nor go away, when you’re talking about receiving Christ.

Now, you have the Spirit of God living in you and in Romans 8:16, it tells you that the Spirit himself testifies with our spirit, that we are God’s children. Now folks, I think that ties into what Jesus was talking about, when he said, I am the living water and when you have drunk of My water, you’ll never thirst again. And I believe that is 100% true. My friends, I think that if you’re still thirsty, and I’m talking about that emptiness that can sometimes be there, if you’re still thirsting, I have to look to see: Have you truly partaken of the living water? And I’m not saying that to cast doubt on whether you’re in Christ or not because, but I am saying that if you’re still struggling with the assurance of your salvation, it may be that when you came to Christ to begin with, you didn’t come in that assurance of faith. In other words, trusting Him, for what He came to do. You were still trusting in what you were supposed to do.

And there are many people today, and I’m sure well-meaning people who had been taught by man. Certainly not by God that they’re saved by getting placed in somebody’s water in somebody’s church by somebody’s pastor. Not going to find that in scripture. And if that was your understanding of that’s how I’m saved, I’m sorry folks, God loves you too much to save you that way. That is not salvation. That’s church membership. That’s church membership in a man-made church, but it is not identification with a living God.

We know that we live in him. We’re told in 1 John, 4:13 and that He is in us because He has given us His Spirit and that Spirit of God, testifies with our spirit that we are children of God. We may not be able to understand that, but there’s something inside of us that is continually testifying that I am His and He is mine. That I have a friend in the Lord Jesus Christ. Now many times religion begins to cover that over, and you’ve been watered down and covered over so much in religion that that’s hard to grab ahold of. But the truth of it never fades.

As we conclude our lesson and the series on this assurance of salvation, once again, I want to refer us back to the sixteenth chapter of John, where He tells us, I tell you the truth, it’s good for you that I am going away because unless I go the Counselor will not come to you. But if I go I will send Him to you. Now that’s the Spirit of God, living in us where we become the body of Christ. Like I say, I’m going away, but I’m going to be here. But how are you going to be here Lord? By living in you. My Spirit in you just as my own Spirit living in My own body, 2,000 years ago. I am going away, but My body, physical body, will not be here. You are going to become My physical body here on this Earth, and I will come to live within you which incidentally will be your only hope of glory.

So He said, I’m going to send the Holy Spirit to you. That’s what salvation is, is the receiving of Christ Jesus into your heart, brought to you by the Holy Spirit of God. Now when He comes the Holy Spirit comes, He will convict the world of guilt, in regard to sin and of righteousness and judgment. So that is a work of the Holy Spirit of God, going to the world and showing them about sin, and righteousness, and judgment. Those three things the world needs to know. Isn’t that funny? He didn’t say when the Holy Spirit comes that he’s going to teach you sex education and going to teach you how to be brilliant, and all of this types of things. He said I’m going to teach you from God’s vantage point about what sin is, and about what righteousness is, and about what judgment is. You stop to think about it. What three more important questions could there be to a human heart? What is sin all about? What is righteousness? And what is judgment? So, He tells us, in regard to sin because men do not believe in Me. What is the world’s sin? Unbelief in Jesus. Period. That’s the unpardonable sin folks. That is the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. All these passages of people have come up with to try to get their salvation doubted, all of it ties into a rejection of the Son of God, who came to give you life. A rejection of the testimony, the testimony that God has given you that eternal life. It is a rejection of the Holy Spirit of God, who said, I will never leave you nor forsake you. It is rejecting truth. And the truth is about the Lord Jesus Christ, who is truth. So what is the world’s sin? Unbelief. That’s in the singular. What about the sins of the world? They were placed on the cross of Jesus Christ, 2,000 years ago, never to be seen again, taken away sacrificed for, died for, paid the penalty for. That’s all been dealt with. The sin of unbelief could not be forgiven, it had to be repented of. And so, the only sin attributable to man, not sins (plural), sin (singular), is the sin of the rejection of His Son. Period. That’s the unpardonable sin, the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is the Holy Spirit is the last person testifying about that truth.

The Father came in the old testament and the old testament revealing Himself and revealing the truth that the Son, the Messiah is coming. 2,000 years ago the Messiah came, Jesus came, the Son came testifying, I am here. I am He, I am the One that the Father testified about. So He testified about Himself and then He went away. And today, the Holy Spirit of God is testifying about what the Father testified about the coming Messiah in the old testament. And now Jesus testified about Himself while He was here. And now, the Holy Spirit testified about the One who came and is, and is coming again. Rejection of the testimony by the Holy Spirit is the unpardonable sin. There’s no pardon for that. There was no provision for the unbeliever. Do you understand that folks? Unpardonable. All your sins were pardoned at the cross that meant taken away. The only unpardonable sin, singular, is the rejection of the Son. It’s the rejection of the testimony about God concerning His Son. He gave you eternal life. This life is in his Son. When you don’t have the Son, you don’t have the life. It’s that simple, not complicated at all. And so the only sin that is attributable to man, unpardonable as far as God is concerned, is the rejection of the provision made by God for man, undeserving, as we are in regard to our eternal life. The Holy Spirit is also going to come to testify about righteousness. About righteousness because I’m going to the Father and you will not see Me no more. In other words, righteousness that comes from Him, not from us. About judgment, to let people know that the prince of this world already stands condemned, that’s Satan. So there’s no more for that. We don’t have to wonder what’s going to happen. It’s already out there. He then said that when the Spirit of Truth comes that He’s going to guide you into all truth. And the Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of Truth. Jesus said, I am the truth and I’ll guide you into all truth.

Eternal security my friends, is a truth that the Spirit of God, if indeed He lives in, is trying to guide you into the Spirit of Truth is never leading you into a denial of what God says is true. When God says that you’ve been given eternal life and that life is in his Son, then the Spirit of God is never going to be guiding you to doubt that information or to believe that He is going to walk away from some, even though He said I’ll never leave you nor forsake you or that you could walk away from Him, which is a ludicrous thought. He’s not going to be speaking on his Own when He speaks to you. He’s going to speak only what He hears, which incidentally is what Jesus did when He was here. Anything you hear Me, say or see Me do, it’s the Father telling Me to do it and to say it and He will tell you of what is yet to come. The Holy Spirit of God living in us, is going to bring glory to Me, to Jesus. The Holy Spirit of God is not testifying about himself. He’s not bringing glory to Himself. He’s not wanting us to bring glory to himself. He is here to bring glory to Jesus. He’s going to take from what is mine, Jesus said, and make it known to you to make known to you the things of the Lord Jesus Christ.
