Children, born not of natural descent. In other words, not born out of water, not born out of the will of your mom and dad nor of human decision or a husband’s will. Husband’s will, we’re going to have a baby. That’s not the kind of birth He’s talking about. Let’s talk about, but born of God. Now, let me read that again yet to all who received Him to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God, children born not of natural descent, you’re of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

So, folks, when we are born of God, we have a new identity. Now, when we are born of a husband’s will or of natural descent, well, we’ve got an identity of my father. In other words, my dad was Franklin George. My name is Bob George. So, there’s a certain identity, family identity, but it’s all human. The same way, I’ve been born again of the Spirit and called a child of the living God. Who’s my child? Who’s my father? God. Who was my father before? It says Satan. I’ve got a new identity. A new inheritance. I have a new father. I have a new Destiny. Where was my destiny in? Adam? Hell, where is my destiny today? Heaven? What was my destiny in? Adam, eternal separation from God. What is my destiny in Christ? Eternal fellowship with God. So it’s something brand-new. Now, it says in Romans 8, 15 and 17, when I have been born again of the Spirit of God called a child of the living God in-dwelt, by the Spirit of God. In Romans also tells us that if the Spirit of God does not live in us, we do not belong to Christ. And then it says, in Romans 8, you did not receive a Spirit that makes you a slave again to fear. But you received the Spirit of sonship and by Him the Son, we cry Abba Father that means Daddy. It’s the most intimate of Hebrew terms. If you go over to Israel and you walk around playgrounds or out in the streets, you’ll hear kids calling Abba Abba. Daddy Daddy. It’s the most intimate of terms.

And by Christ living in us, we can cry out Daddy Father. Now, if we’re made children of God, what is so unusual about Him being our Father? And if He is our Father, then why shouldn’t we be able to cry out to Him in the most intimate of terms? Daddy, Father. He’s God, but He’s my Dad. Daddy.

I use the illustration and within our seminars, as you know, but one of the magazines I would absolutely love to get a hold of the magazine, maybe some of our listeners listening, might have a copy of that. I don’t remember what magazine. It came out with it was Life or one of the major magazines. I don’t think we know otherwise we could find it but years ago, we had the original and since then it’s been copied but the originals have been lost.

But it was a picture of John Kennedy, and Salinger was in there and probably the Secretary of Defense and of the army and they were in the Oval Office of the White House where the most powerful offices on the face of the Earth. And all of them deeply concerned. Now there was a reason why they were deeply concerned. This was the Cuban crisis that took place years ago. Whereby we are now told the danger that was in that particular time of history whereby Russia in cooperation with Castro had placed missiles into Cuba aimed at the United States. And we were on the threshold of a potential nuclear Holocaust and so that was serious business. So here is John Kennedy standing there. Kind of that the face it with his face toward the picture. And here we are all of them. Everybody’s worried with concerned looks on their faces. And then of course, his desk was there. And as many desks are why you’ve got this little place in the middle, opening the opening for your feet and who is in that opening on his hands and knees but John John just grinning up a storm looks like Alfred Newman. Me worried? Of course I’m not worried about anything. And when you look closely at the picture, you see that in between John Kennedy’s feet that are folded, was his shoe. That’s where he was crawling before he crawled under his desk and was up between his legs. He’s not worried at all. So why should I worry? That’s my father’s concern. Think, sometimes I’m old life here. I’m supposed to be calling him daddy, father, and I’m sitting there taking the burdens of the Cuban crisis upon myself, instead of turning it over to Dad. It’s like saying the dad said it’s my business to worry about that stuff. Bob play, have fun, you know, if I’m not calling you to be worrying about that, we do that, worried about your future and worrying about me. It’s amazing. How dumb we are and how we forget that he is our Abba, Father. But that’s a phenomenal picture. If any of you are listing who find that in a magazine, please send it to me. It’s a phenomenal picture.

And you see you could say, well, how did he get in there? I mean, if you have to go through a security guard. No, you have to go through the secretary’s no you think when he crawled in there, that John Kennedy said, now you little dickens, do you have any unconfessed sin in your life? Because if you do, you’re not going to talk to me. I don’t think so. How do you get in there? It’s his daddy. And you say, Hey kid, don’t, you know, that’s a president of the United States? Said, yeah, but he’s my daddy and because he’s my daddy, why just bound into this most important office in the world. Just any time I want to crawl around on the ground in between his legs, leave my shoes all over the place. Why? He’s my daddy.

And that’s what this is talking about. We don’t have to be a slave to fear. What does that mean? Fearing God, fearing His wrath, fearing His punishment. We’ve been reading. But instead we’ve received this Spirit of sonship. Well, whereby from now on as a child of God, we can cry out Abba Father. Daddy Father. Best news in the world as this new creature in Christ. Being born again. Now of the Spirit of God, no longer in Adam, translated, out of the spirit out of the kingdom of darkness into the, into the kingdom of the Son. It says it. In whom we love, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. So we’ve been transferred from the law, whereby the wages of sin is what? Death. Under the curse of the law, under the condemnation of the law. And therefore, it says, we did not receive the Spirit that makes you a slave again, to fear.

The fear of death is the greatest fear in the heart of man. And if you don’t believe that, just let somebody tell you, you’ve got cancer and watch what happens to you, the fear of death. Now we have been set free from that fear. We’re no longer under the wages of sin, is death. That’s why it tells us that there is now no condemnation awaiting those who belong to Christ Jesus. What is condemnation? Death. There’s no more death awaiting those who belong to Christ Jesus because the law of the Spirit of Life has set me free from the law of sin and death. We’re a child of God. We received this. Spirit of sonship, and Him Jesus, we can cry Abba Father, Daddy Father.

Now, it goes ahead in Romans 8, 15 through 17 to express that the Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit, that we are God’s children. Now folks, it tells us very explicitly that when the Spirit of God comes to live within you, and the Spirit of God Is not an it. It is not a thing. It is not an influence. It is not a power. The Holy Spirit of God is a person. He is referred to as He. We’re told that the Spirit of God that He has feelings. He grieves. The Spirit of God thinks. He has all of the elements of human personality. He thinks, can feel His emotions and a will. The Spirit of God chooses. So, we literally talked about multiple personalities, but we literally have someone else living in us, besides ourselves. We have our own human spirit. And now we have God’s Spirit, God’s Spirit living in us, is to teach this dumb, human spirit of ours, what truth is and then that spiritual transaction that has taken place is sealed. Now is what now begins to influence my soul, my mind, my emotions, my will beginning to teach my mind, control my world emotions directing my will to be in harmony with God.

And so the Spirit when he comes to live within us and we are born again and truly Born Again of the Spirit, it says that that Spirit He testifies with our spirit that we are children of God. And so you say, where does our assurance come from the Spirit of God, living in us testifying that we are His child. If I don’t have that assurance, is it possible that I do not have that assurance because I do not have the author of that assurance and that is Christ Jesus living in me? Now, I’m not saying that that’s the case folks. I’m not here to put you on guilt trips. That’s not my position. My ministry is to teach you who you are in Christ. Not to put guilt trips on you or doubts. And it is not that if Christ is alive living in me, and I’ve been born again that I cannot carry some of that doubting baggage with me. What I am saying is that according to the scripture that if you’re truly born again, the Spirit of God is going to usurp those thoughts and confirm with your spirit, testifying to the fact that you are a child of God. Not just testifying that I am God. I’m testifying you’re a child of God.

I look at the assurance that I have in the midst of the trials and tribulations and Bob through the years, in the midst of falling flat on my face at one time or another, is that assurance, that Bob, you’re my child. I don’t have to stand in front of a mirror and say I’m His child. I’m a child. I’m a child. In order to calm myself into believing I’m His child. That’s human stuff. There is a calm assurance that is inside of us, if indeed we are born again that is constantly testifying to the fact that Bob you’re His child. Because you’re a child, walk into His presence, calling him Daddy Father and receiving mercy in your time of need because you are His child.

You’re totally loved. You may not feel it because you’re not thinking that you’re not realizing. Let the Spirit testify to you that you are His child. Let the Spirit testify that I love you.

You see we’re here, they’re trying to figure this stuff out. We’re trying to figure out something you’re too dumb to figure out even electricity. You can’t even figure that out yourself. So quit trying to figure things out. And let the Spirit testify that this is true. We try to figure out the word of God. He says quit trying to figure it out. You, how in the world can your feeble mind figure out this spiritual truth? It takes the Spirit to reveal it to you. That’s why your eye hadn’t seen, your ear hasn’t heard, your mind hasn’t conceived of those things that God has prepared for those who love him, but it’s got to be revealed to you. So quit, trying to figure out God’s love. Let Him reveal it to you. And so the Spirit testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. That folks, all I’m saying to you is if that testimony has not been in your life, don’t sit back and wait and try to figure it out. It very well could be that a person has never accepted Christ for who He is.

Remember what it said in the scripture that they saw the miracles that He did in the second chapter of John? They saw the Miracles that He did and they believed in His name. We’d say, oh Born Again. No, Jesus said, but He did not entrust himself to them. They were trying to impress themselves to Him but He didn’t trust himself to them, because He knew man and He didn’t need the testimony of man concerning man. In other words, He said you’re following Me as a faith healer. You’re following Me in order to get bread and some more fish after I just got through feeding 5,000. You’re following Me for what I can do for you instead of following Me for who I Am. I don’t want to be loved for what I do for you. I want to be loved for who I am. I don’t want you to marry me before your money. I want you to marry me because you love me. When you marry me, not for my money but because you love me. And if I have money, that money is going to be yours as a part of your inheritance, but I don’t want you to marry me for your inheritance, for my inheritance. See what I’m getting at? God loves us too much to let us enter into that kind of a flimsy relationship.

And yet today in the modern day, visible, what is presented as Christianity, what is it? One Miracle after another come to Jesus for healing, come to him for Prosperity, come to him to get zapped in the spirit. You walk and see people on television land hitting people in the forehead. And you can see the people with the gift of catching behind them or they’re catching people and slaying people in the spirit. The Spirit didn’t come to slay, He came to give you life and we have all that kind of garbage going on. And I’m just saying that’s what it is, garbage, because there is nothing in the scripture concerning that at all. You’ve got everybody following him for what he can do for you instead of coming to Him for who He is. He is God. He is your Father. He is the Lord God of this universe, who says, I want to come to live in you, by now that ought to be enough. So I don’t care if you ever do anything for me. Lord, if you’ll come and live in me and give me life. What else could I want? And yet we want more. We want our things, we want our flesh gratified. We want our flesh to be glorified, gratified, stroked, praised.

And Jesus said, what about me? What about just the fellowship of knowing that I’m alive living inside of you perfectly loved by Me? What’s wrong with that? Just being with Me. And you know, Bob, you see that with your little grandson and you see it with your kids. My goodness, when they’re that age, I mean, how much of an intelligent conversation can we really have with each other? But the fact is that you can go out in a fishing boat and just enjoy being with each other, right? And that’s the kind of relation that God is looking for.

Now. It says that the Spirit Himself, testifies with our spirit, that we are God’s children. And now, if we are God’s children, then we are heirs. It says, heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ. If indeed, we share in his sufferings, in order that we may also share in his glory. You see one of the things being an heir is what He has and what He has passed on to us. Well, you see, I look at that, but I say if indeed we share in His sufferings, say, man, I don’t want to share in your suffering. I want to share in your glory. The only way you’re ever going to share My glory is sharing My sufferings. In other words. If you’re going to live in this world, you’re gonna have to understand about it. It’s alien to you. You’re in it, but you’re not a part of it. You’ve been called out of it when you’re a child of God. You’re born into this world in Adam dead under the role of the spiritual influence in this world. You’ve been called out of that. And this world is not your friend and the older you get, and the more that you’re involved in this Christian Life, folks, the more we realize that God didn’t call you out of a world in order to be blessed by a world, that crucified, the Son of God. The world is not our friend, we are in it, but it’s not our friend. We’re not of it.

If you’re in the ocean by yourself out in the middle of the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean, I got news for you. That place is not your friend. It’s what’s going to gobble you up. The fish in it are not your friend. If some of them see you. They’re going to gobble you up. When you wear out and you can’t tread water or swim any longer and you don’t have a raft or a life jacket, you’re going to drown. It’s beautiful, but it’s not your friend. Now in a boat, you can enjoy that alien environment or people who do deep sea diving with the proper equipment can enjoy that alien environment. But without that alien equipment, you’re going to drown in that environment. It’s there, but it’s not your friend. Now folks, that’s what God says. This world is not your friend. And if it’s not your friend and you and I are in an alien environment, then there’s going to be suffering connected with that. And he says, don’t be shocked or surprised when that happens, but I’m going to allow you the privilege of suffering with me so that you can also share in the glory that comes as a result of that.

In conclusion to chapter 2, we are studying Romans 8, 15 through 17. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship and by Him, we cry Abba, Father. The Spirit testifies, with our spirit that we are God’s children. And if we are children, then we are heirs, heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ in as much as or if indeed, we share in His sufferings in order that we may also share in His glory. Now the very moment that you and I became a child of the living God and we became in-dwelt by the Spirit of God, the Spirit of God that lives in you really, there is no fear connected with that at all. In other words, we have been freed from fear.

We’re told in a scripture, there’s no fear in love. Perfect love casts away all fear, because fear has to do with punishment and a man who fears cannot be perfected in love. So if it is God’s desire for you and me to be perfected in love, what is the one thing that keeps us from that? And it is fear. But we can understand that God has not given us a spirit of fear. So therefore we can know and identify immediately where the spirit of fear is coming from. We don’t have To sit around and analyze what is being said, just understand who is doing the saying and it’s not God. It is Satan, the enemy of your soul. He is the one who is continually attempting to create fear in you to keep you away from understanding the love of God.

Now folks, what happens to us is the very first time that we run into problems and trials and tribulations in life, through legalistic teaching, we’ve only been taught? Well, you’re just getting punished for your sins. Well, I got news for you that that is exactly what I’m talking about. That is not a voice from God. Jesus was punished for your sins. You are not punished for your sins. In Christ there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. And you are in Christ Jesus. And the reason there is no condemnation is because the law of the Spirit of life has set you free from the law of sin and death. Now folks as a child of God, we’re going to go through trials and tribulation, but we don’t have to fear that it is God punishing you. It’s all a part of this life that we live in.

If we take a look at the 11th chapter of the book of Hebrews, you’re going to see beginning in verse 32, the writer of Hebrews explaining this type of thing. He said,

32 And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets, 33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies. 35 Women received back their dead, raised to life again.

Now we say, Amen, that is the kind of faith I like. Yet we need to keep reading. That is one group of people, but there were others:

There were others who were tortured, refusing to be released so that they might gain an even better resurrection. 36 Some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. 37 They were put to death by stoning; they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated— 38 the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in the ground.

And you look at that and say these people must of had sin in their lives. No:

39 These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, 40 since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.

Now, it’s talking about the fact that these people who were in Christ, that were commended by their faith, went through terrific trials and tribulations in their life. God didn’t put that upon them. Man put that upon them. God merely sustained them in the midst of that. And so whenever trials and tribulation come your way, do not ever buy the LIE of Satan that says you’re being punished. Because Jesus was the only one that was punished for your sins. He took it all

Now chapter 12, then says, therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses. Let us throw off everything that hinders, and the sin, (and that’s the sin of unbelief folks) that so easily entangles us, and let us run with perseverance, the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus. In other words, focus upon Him, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame and sat down at the right hand of God. Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart, when, when you two are suffering opposition from sinful men, in your struggle against sin. In other words, in this tendency to grow weary and in the midst of opposition, you have not resisted to the point of shedding your blood.

And have you forgotten the word of encouragement that addresses you as sons. Now folks, this is what ties into this chapter. We are children of the living God. We are heirs and co-heirs with Christ and as such we are going to share in the sufferings of Christ Jesus, the persecution many times the opposition that comes your way and all of the other things that could be thrown. against you is nothing new to him. You are merely sharing in the sufferings of your Lord Jesus Christ.
