Classic Christianity – Book of Hebrews P91 (04-10-24)

Trust in Jesus Not in Anything Else

~ Today, many of the believers in Christ have gotten on the world’s bandwagon, and are believing the lies of Satan left and right. If you can not see that by now, then maybe you don’t have the Spirit of God living in you. Cement that first, and place faith in Jesus, God in the flesh, who took away all your sins on the cross. Thank him for what he did for you, and you will immediately receive the Holy Spirit for Life. From there, the world of lies will be exposed to you too. The things of the world are ALL evil, and are enticing everyone to fall under the sorcery of Satan and the fallen angels today. And we who are in Christ, need to step back and ask God to explain Truth to us. For we have all believed the lies of the world, more than people imagine. Today people are hero worshipers. Satan has given the people of the world heroes to take up residence in their hearts. And if you don’t think you don’t have heroes or have had any heroes in the world, you are deceived. For everyone has had hero worship at one time or another. People love their movies and movie stars. People love their sports, and sports stars. People love their talk shows, and talk show hosts. People love their favorite politicians, and spend countless hours watching (being programmed by news and the lies of Tel a Vision). People love their technology, and technology gurus, and think the technocrats are God’s gifts to mankind. They love their 401(K)s and retirement plans. They love their singers and song writers and yes even the so called Christian singers they are in love with them too. They have placed all of these entities (demons) on a pedestal today. Those with eyes to see and ears to hear can see and hear what is going on in the world today. Nothing is by accident. We were born into a world filled with lies. And when a person receives the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit begins the life long process of renewing a person’s mind. God’s discipline remains on a child of God forever. For He is a loving Father and He alone knows what we do not know, and He has given us His Holy Spirit to teach us ALL Truth today. So reach out to Him, and ask Him to show you the TRUTH of the world today.

If you are one of the humbled ones, Jesus will explain everything to you. Don’t take the attitude that you know it all, for none of us knows it all, except God himself.

Pray to God:
“Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today. Thank you God.”

~ "Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.” It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you endured in a great conflict full of suffering. Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. You suffered along with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.

You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. For,

“In just a little while,
he who is coming will come
    and will not delay.”

And,

“But my righteous one will live by faith.
    And I take no pleasure
in the one who shrinks back.”

But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved." Hebrews 10:19-39

~ “Well, let’s pray together. Father, I thank you that we can trust the faithfulness of you. For though we are not, you are. The message in your book of Hebrews is not to cause us to sift and go on a guilt trip, it’s to contemplate and come to a firm decision in our own hearts have We trusted you? Or haven’t we? Or were we just kind of hedging our bet? I really believe that you’re saved because of this and this and this, but along with a little bit of you, little Brylcreem a little dab will do you. But just in case, I’m gonna hang on to some of this other stuff, just in case. God says, I’m not going to trust myself to that. I’m going to wait until you’re ready to let go of everything they sent me and I mean, let go. There’s no such thing as a Christ plus anything. It’s not Christ plus, church. Christ plus baptism. Christ plus gifts. It’s Christ and nothing else. Gifts did not hang on a cross. Churches didn’t hang on a cross. For sure water didn’t hang up there. It was just you. And you who knew no sin took upon yourself the sins of the world so that we who turn to you by faith can become the righteousness of God in you. It’s not Christ plus anything. It’s just all you. It isn’t what we do. It’s what you did. And I pray Father, that those in this room today that will never come to you by faith that today will be that day. To be able, in your own heart to say, Lord Jesus, I’ve been doing it myself. I’ve been sitting on a throne in my own life, trying to control my own life, trying to provide my own righteousness, by what I was doing, instead of walking by faith and what you do. And today, I want to come to you by faith, accepting you and your total provision and none other. And to receive the Spirit of God to come and live within me, to be born again of the Spirit of God. And thank him, for his faithfulness to do that. For those in this room today that have been hanging on to Christ, oh we’re saved, we’ve been born again, but we’ve allowed the things of the world to creep in. And all of a sudden, very subtly, insidiously. It’s kind of become a Christ plus something. And I asked, today, we let go of that something. And to be willing to put it behind, as Paul said, and latch on to a better way. And that’s love. And to allow the love of God to flow in and through us, with total dependency upon you and you alone and to give our hearts in totality to you today. And to be able to surrender everything to you, presenting your bodies as a living sacrifice, which is your reasonable worship and to walk in the faithfulness of you with no faith in our own faithfulness. And we thank you for that in Christ’s name. Amen.” ~ Bob George

And so we follow him for a motive of a miracle man instead of who he is God that says they believed in his name, we’d say say, no, no, no, keep reading. It says Jesus did not entrust himself to them. They were trying to entrust themselves to him because he was a miracle man. But he said I don’t trust myself to you. Because they said I know man, and I do not need the testimony about man concerning man. I know you I made you. And I don’t need man’s testimony about man. In other words, I do not need Freud to come along to tell me about man. I know man, I made you. And so he he said to us, he said very clearly on that. Why did he not interest himself and people come along after all they were sincere. So because I know you. It was the same thing when people went over to Capernaum and followed him over to Capernaum after he had just fed the 5000. And he did not say to them, the truth of the matter is, is the reason you follow me over here was because I fed those people over there and all you’re looking for is some food. You got and feed somebody today, one meal, and we do that Thanksgiving, do, I’m gonna do some good deed for the year, I’m gonna go feed the poor, and so good and give them a meal. How much good is one meal a year? I mean, just how much is that going to do for you one meal a year? He said, My food is a spiritual food. It’s not a quick fix. It’s the bread of life. You eat from me, you’ll never be hungry again. And then the Lord Jesus Christ was saying, there’s a real bread, there’s a real food, there’s a real drink. When you drink of me, you’ll never thirst again. You say, Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they will be filled. You already have the righteousness of Christ. I don’t hunger and thirst after what I already have. I hungered and thirsted until I had it. But today, if you’re in Christ, Christ has imputed to you His righteousness. And I don’t need to hunger and thirst for what I already have. I just need to rejoice in the fact that I have it. And that’s faith, folks, that that is what faith is all about. It is the substance that says the things that we hope for and are certain of what we don’t see. I don’t see, in my own human experience, I don’t see that walk around saying, Hey, I’m righteous. But I know full well on the side of God, that I have the righteousness of Christ, how come? He told me I did. He said, I gave it to you. He said, I’ve clothed you in my righteousness. Do I know that I have Christ living in me? Absolutely. Absolutely. Without question. How long is that going to be? Forever. That’s an eternal deal. Well, if I’m gonna believe that, then what did he say in regard to that? Said Bob I clothed you in my righteousness, you don’t have a righteousness of your own, I figured that I’d only meet faith for that one. So if I’m going to go into the presence of a righteous God, then he had to do something to me. And that was make me righteous, I couldn’t make myself righteous. If I try some people again, try. And we’re told, if you can pray hard enough, speak in tongues enough. get healed enough. Go to church enough, be a Baptist, be a Catholic, whatever it might be, do whatever you want to put into those things that make a difference. Get baptized enough. Put anything you want in there, you’ll be holy, ridiculous. You’re holy only because Christ made you holy. That means to be set apart. He alone set you apart, you don’t set yourself apart by what you do. You’ve been set apart by what he did.

Now, this is what he is talking about here. Then don’t shrink back from these things. Don’t throw away your confidence. Because your confidence is in him and what he is doing, not you and what you’re doing. Don’t throw away your confidence. Now if I have it, my confidence in the Lord is predicated upon me and how I’m feeling and what I am doing, then my confidence is in shaky ground, isn’t it? Let’s turn back, Jesus talked about this and proclaim this. He proclaimed these things. And now Paul is explaining, and the writer of Hebrews is explaining them. But he proclaimed that and told us of the forerunner of that back in the 13th chapter of Matthew. So you may want to turn back there for a moment. Jesus was forewarning, His apostles about what was going to occur about what he was we were going to place their faith in. Let me ask you a question was Judas, up until the cross and prior a little before that? Was he a follower of Jesus? Well, of course, he was a follower. Was he saved? No. Was he a follower? Sure. But he didn’t follow him to where he was going. He stopped short before he got to where Jesus went to the cross the burial and the resurrection. But he’s a follower of Christ, and enlightened soul. Sure. Regenerate spirit. Absolutely not. So are there people like that today? Absolutely. And Jesus was talking about that. He said the same day Jesus went out of the house and he sat by the lake. It’s one of the reasons Bob Davis is so fond of Jesus. He likes to likes to sit by the lake. Such large crowds gathered around him that he said he got into a boat. And he sat in it while all the people stood there on the shore. And he told them these many things in these parables, he said, you know, a farmer went out to sow a seed. And he was scattering the seed and this seed that he was sowing, some fell along a path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places where they did not have much soil, it sprang up quickly, all excited about the things of God. But because the soil was shallow, and when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they weathered because he didn’t have any root. Other seed fell among the thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil where it produced a crop 100 fold 60, 30 times what was sown. He said, He who has ears, let him listen. He didn’t say if you have ears, hear, if you got ears, you’re gonna hear. He said Listen. Take in what I’m saying, Don’t just be a hearer. Listen to what’s being said. Those appendages sitting on the side of your head are for a purpose. And it’s not just to take in sounds is to take in sounds so that you can listen to what’s being said here, what I’m saying to you. Well, the disciples came to him and said, Why do you speaking to the people in these parables? He replied, the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, have been given to you to the apostles, but not to them, and whoever has will be given more, and he’ll have an abundance and whoever does not have even what he has will be taken from him. And this is why I speak to them in parables. Now folks, the people he is speaking to had religion. They were the Hebrews, who had knowledge of the coming Messiah. They had knowledge of the fact through the announcement and the pronouncement of John the Baptist that the kingdom of God was near. They had knowledge of the Old Testament scriptures. As a matter of fact, if you were an Orthodox Hebrew, you had most of the Old Testament memorized in one form or another. So it wasn’t the fact that it was an in here, they just didn’t know what it meant. They were listening, but they weren’t listening. They were hearing but they weren’t listening. That’s why Jesus continually was saying, if you’re not ears, why don’t you listen, not just hear sounds, listen to what’s being said, Take it in. Because the kingdom of God is here. You’ve been reading about the Kingdom of God, you knew it was coming, and it’s here and you won’t listen to what it’s saying to you. It’s like the Pharisees were the custodians of the interpretation of the written word. And we know the written word, and we’re students of the book and we know the book and we know the book and we know the book. And we are the interpretation. The interpreters are the custodians of this written word. And all of a sudden, the living word stood in front of the interpreters of the written word. And the Living Word didn’t agree with the interpreters of the written word. So they crucified him hunting to a cross. Now it’s the same type of thing he saying, you see, the Living Word is standing in front of you listen to what he’s saying. So he says, Those scenes they don’t, they don’t see, you see, but you don’t see. Though hearing you don’t hear, or understand. And then Then he said, is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, you will ever be hearing but never understanding. You will be ever seeing but never perceiving.

Do you know people that? There’s people like that I can just tell him I mean, just give truth and I understand. It’s like the old mutual that you need to hit in the head of the two before just get their attention. I don’t understand, Jesus loves you. I don’t understand. What don’t you understand which word Jesus loves? Or you? Which one of those three Don’t you understand which word are you confused over? But folks, he’s saying you don’t understand you don’t why you don’t understand? Because that’s a spiritual truth. And it says that natural man cannot understand spiritual things. It sounds foolish to him. Know why you are having trouble understanding, you know why you don’t understand? It’s because it says you’re a natural man. In other words, you may be religious but you haven’t come to Christ. Because if this book is written by the Spirit of God and you have the Spirit of God living in you, the Spirit living in you testifies to what you’ve just heard the Spirit say to you. And if you’re constantly saying, I don’t understand, I don’t understand there’s a reason. Don’t don’t, you don’t need to be on a guilt trip for that just recognize the reason it’s not that you’re dumb. Because the most intellectual people in the world were students of the Bible, but they didn’t understand Jesus. That’s why the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing. Because I don’t understand the cross. Why? Because I’ve never accepted the act of the cross. I’ve never come to Christ except that that that sounds foolish to me, that you give me a religion, something I can do and learn and pass on. I’ll go along with that. But don’t tell me of a man who hung on a cross and did at all, that I don’t have anything to do with that except to by faith that doesn’t challenge my marvelous brain that I have up here. And so natural man cannot understand those spiritual things that sounds foolish to him. But it says we have Christ literally have the mind of Christ and can discern all things spiritually, because spiritual things have to be discerned spiritually. And unless you have the Spirit of God live in and you don’t understand spiritual truths. So why couldn’t they understand? They knew what was said they had ears they were hearing, but they were listening. Why? Couldn’t hear if they did. You’ll always be hearing he said, never understanding. You’ll always be seeing, but you’ll never be perceiving for it says, Here’s the reason his people’s hearts have become calloused. And they hardly hear with their ears and they’ve closed their eyes. Folks, you get people sometimes who say unless I can see it, I don’t believe it. In other words, unless you see it, you don’t believe it. Yeah, I tried. You take a glass of water and put a pencil in it. What do you see that pencil do? Well, it looks like it’s cracked into is that true? No, it isn’t true. It’s an illusion. That’s not true. So do you always believe what you see it better? Better not, never right with that pencil.

Bob George 14:11
And so you’ve got a situation in life, you say to see I can take you after the greatest spectacle in the world, one of the Grand Canyon ever been there? Unbelievable thing, I can stand you within 10 feet of the Grand Canyon, and you’ll never see one bit of it, you won’t know what the hole looks like, it’s the biggest hole in the world. You’ll never see it 10 feet from it, and you’ll never see it. All you have to do is turn your back to it. And you’ll never see it. It’s there. But you’ll never see it. Just turn your back to it. So folks, there are things that you can see, that is true. There’s a hole there, you got your turn your back turned on it. There’s other things that you think you can see that you better not believe what you see. Because if you do, you will never get on a train. And so we’re going to have to see that these people, and there are people and this is as applicable today as it was back then. We’re seeing but never perceiving people’s hearts to become calloused. They hardly hear with their ears. They’ve closed their eyes, they’ve turned their back to the canyon. Otherwise, they may see with their eyes, hear with their ears and understand with their hearts and turn and I’d heal them I’d show them truth that didn’t talk about getting your legs straightened. You’re talking about spiritual healing. There’s only one sickness in the world that God’s concerned about and that is the sickness of the lost heart. What profits a man if he gains the whole world what profits man if he’s the most healthy thing in the world, he loses his soul. When I came to Christ, 22 years ago, I was healthy as a horse, or anything physically wrong with me as healthy as a horse, I still am pretty healthy. But my soul was as sick as you could get it. And that’s what Christ came to heal, was my soul. Bless it Are your eyes because they see you said and your ears because they hear For I tell you the truth that many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see, but didn’t see it and to hear what you hear, but didn’t hear it. Now listen, he said to what the parable of the soil sower means. When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and doesn’t understand it. Why don’t they understand it? It just told you your hearts become calloused. The message of the Kingdom is a kingdom of what is the message of what? Christ. Who does God give grace to? The humble. Who does he resist? The proud. So the proud heart cannot receive grace can receive the law They thrive on it. But he can’t receive the message of grace. Because a proud heart won’t accept grace, folks, the same sun that melts, wax hardens clay, the identical sun. The same message of grace that melts the heart of the humble hardens the heart of the proud, same sun. When it talks about Pharaoh hardening the heart of God for hardening the heart of Pharaoh. It wasn’t that he just decided I don’t like him, going to harden his heart. The reason his heart was hardened because of it was proud. And when the message of grace hit him, it hard that more the same message that melted the heart of Moses hardened the heart of Pharaoh, the same sun that melts, wax hardens clay, a message of God’s unconditional love and grace goes out the seed is sown. And it’s a powerful seed. And it falls upon a heart of pride. And it hardens that heart. And it falls upon a heart of a man who has been humbled. And it changes his life. Same message. It depends on whose heart it falls on. And that’s what Jesus is saying in there. The parable When anyone hears the message and understand it, he just told us why didn’t because our hearts are hardened evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. A message was sown it’s thrown away, forgot it. And this is the seed he said it was sown along the path, the one who received the seed that fell on the rocky places. Well, that’s the man who hears the word that once receives it with joy. If you’re seeing people like that, I can sit down and name you. I can’t tell you how many people that I’ve seen sit right, those tables just grinning like a Cheshire cat. Oh, God is so exciting. And six months later, they’re gone. That’s what happens when you get all involved in emotionalism. That’s what happens when you come to Christ with your emotions and not your head. That’s what happens when you get wrapped up in this tidal wave of Christian emotionalism. And we’re everything’s got to be exciting. And I’m so excited, I can hardly stand it. And then all of a sudden, the excitement starts to wane. And you realize that God didn’t call us to get excited. He came to get us saved, where we could walk not in some kind of wild fanatical excitement nor in the pits, but with a steady stream of something called peace and joy and patience and kindness and goodness and long suffering and against these things it says they’re isn’t any law. And so these are people who got excited all at once Well I’m really excited but it says you don’t have any root it lasts only a short time when a root, wasn’t any foundation. Got all excited about Jesus miracles outside about his exciting GOD. OH so excited about the all these people are getting healed. Oh, it’s it’s so exciting. Who may be exciting to you but I’m well what do you do in that setting when you’re healthy? Get excited go there when everybody else is sick. Hope a bunch sick people come today so I can get excited again over all those sick people getting well. I’m healthy as a horse. I guess I’m never gonna get excited. You see, with all about how we’ve we’ve turned this thing where everyone’s excited over something physical. But what about the spiritual stuff going on? What about the excitement of new birth? I said it’s quick don’t have a root. It’s 25 miles wide and a quarter inch deep. He said only last a short time when trouble or persecution comes because of the world of the word he quickly falls away. The one who receives the seed that fell among the thorns is a man who hears the word but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful. There’s a deceitful of wealth that ties into the prosperity gospel that we hear. And it’s deceitful, isn’t it, and it doesn’t work. And they come to Christ so they can get rich come to Christ, I can be successful and then all of a sudden their not successful. So don’t give up on that one. And they fall away. But he says the one who receives the seed that fell on good soil, what kind of soil is that? That’s somebody who sees their own depravity, who sees the sufficiency of Christ and also sees my need for that sufficiency. And it falls upon a soil of a man who hears the word and he understands it. And he produces a crop yielding a 100, 60, 30 times what was sown.

Now folks, that’s what the book of Hebrews is say is, don’t shrink back, come all the way to the total sufficiency of Christ Jesus. My friends, if Christ Jesus is not totally sufficient for every single need of your heart, then Christ Jesus is not God. Whenever God ceases to be totally and complete, for everything, he ceases to be God. And if I have to go outside of him, God himself to get my soul relieved, he has ceased to be God, in your own mind. And you’ve bought the lie of Satan that says, There’s something else besides Jesus, oh, Jesus is okay. But the billy goat, but there’s something else. And folks, that’s what the book of Hebrews is warning us. Do not be deceived and sucked in with that deception. Hang in there. If Jesus is not total, then he isn’t Jesus and discount the whole thing. The book of Hebrews, as we’ll tie in next week, about what faith is about, from start to finish, is about the sufficiency of Christ Jesus, it’s all him. And none of us. But my goodness, is he ever faithful.

When you see the lineup of faith in the 11th chapter of Hebrews, you’re going to notice something as you go down, there’s going to be one verse in there that he gives you the reason and that’s verse 11. By faith Abraham, though he was past age, and Sara herself was barren, was enabled to become a father. And now he’s gonna tell you why. Because he considered him God, faithful, who had made the promise, there is the key to the Christian life. Faithful is He who made the promise. What do we walk by faith in? The faithfulness of Him who made the promise.

Well, let’s pray together.
