When people are fighting against truth, it’s because they don’t possess the author of truth. And we have to understand that. You have people today who are adamantly fighting against the message of the grace of God. Why would you be fighting the message that God came to deliver to us? Moses came to give us law. But Jesus came to teach us grace. The law came through Moses, but grace and truth comes through who? Jesus Christ our Lord. And if you’re rebelling against what God came to give us, you’re either dense, or you don’t belong to God. And the reason you can understand grace is because you don’t belong to the author of grace. And if you do belong to the author of grace, get rid of whatever is blocking you so that you can understand the fullness of the grace of God that did for you and me what we had no chance at all of doing for ourselves. The reason you don’t hear is you don’t belong to God. The Judeans answered him, aren’t we right now? Look at this, guys. Aren’t we right in saying that you’re a Samaritan? That’s just that’s worse than an Aggie. Aren’t you a Samaritan and demon possessed that just the worst thing you can say to somebody if you’re a Samaritan, and you’re demon possessed. Now these are people who Jesus came into his own. and his own received him not. The these are people that Jesus entered into the world to save. And they said, You’re demon possessed. You’re a Samaritan. You’re demon possessed. Jesus said, I’m not possessed by a demon. But I honor my father. And you dishonor me. I’m not seeking glory for myself. But there is one who seeks it. That’s God, and He is the judge. So I tell you the truth, again, I’m going to tell you the truth. If anyone keeps my word, he will never see death. At this, the Judeans exclaimed, now we know that your demon possessed, Abraham died, and so did the prophets. And yet you say that if anyone keeps your word, he will never taste death? Are you greater than our father Abraham? You know, it’s funny guys. they just got through saying, Abraham’s our Father, and He say, No, they didn’t. They’re still back on Abraham. Are you father? Are you greater than our father Abraham, he died? And so did the prophets. Who do you think you are? You could just hear the venom catch you in their speech? Who do you think you are Jesus? And he replied, If I glorify myself. If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My father, who you claim is your God is the one who glorifies me, lets me be known. Though you do not know him, I do know him. And if I said I didn’t, I’d be a liar like you. But I do know him. And I keep his word. Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day. He saw it, and was glad. This wiped them out. You’re not yet 50 years old that you said to him, and you have seen Abraham. I tell you the truth.

Again, I tell you the truth. Before Abraham was born, I am. Now folks, they knew exactly what Jesus was saying. Remember when they said Who can I say sent me tell him I am sent me. It’s a recognition of deity. Jesus had seven of those, that I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. I’m the resurrection and the life. I’m the Good Shepherd who lays down his life for his sheep. He went on with seven of those I Am s. And the Jews knew precisely what he was claiming about himself when he said, I am is a declaration of deity. And so they said to them, before Abraham was born, I am at this. They knew that he was declaring himself to be who? God. Now look, guys, here’s a man declaring himself to be God. Now once again, and they probably thought he was a maniac, because a man declaring himself to be God would either be a maniac, or he would be an imposter. Or he would be God. Those the only choices you have. A man claiming himself to be God, is either as CS Lewis said, A man on the level of someone claiming himself to be a poached egg. Or he was an imposter, who created the worst lie that has ever been perpetuated on mankind, or he indeed was who He claimed to be. And that is God. These people knew that choice. They obviously thought he was either a maniac or an impostor because they were not going to declare him as God. Because if they had of how much sense would it be to pick up stones and try to stone God to death? And yet, that’s what they tried to do. But Jesus hid himself slipping away from the temple grounds.

Now, as he went along, he saw a man who was blind from birth. And his disciples asked him Rabbi who sinned this man or his parents that he was born blind? Because the Judeans felt that someone born with that kind of infirmity was due so it was so because of sin of some kind, either with the parents or the person themselves. Jesus replied, neither this man nor his parents sin, Jesus said, not written referring that they had never sinned, but what he’s saying here is it was not sin that caused this. But this has happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life. As long as it is day, we must do the work of Him who sent Me. Night is coming when no one can work. And while I am in the world, I am here’s the I am again, the Light of the world. Now, folks, if you’re in darkness, the only thing you’re looking for is light. If you’re in a pitch black forest, and you don’t know where you’re going, the one thing you’re begging for his Lord, is there any light out there that can get me out of here? And Jesus Christ is saying, you live in a world of black darkness. And the only way that you’re ever going to get out of this darkness is through the light of Christ Jesus. And we’re told in the scripture that we were transferred from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of the Son, and whom he loves, in whom we have redemption, and the forgiveness of sins. Night is coming, when no one can work. And while I am in the world, I am the light of the world. Having said this, he spit on the ground and made some mud with saliva. And he put it on the man’s eyes.

Now, you remember us telling this story on a number of occasions that one of the laws of the Judeans on regarding regard to the Sabbath was that you cannot work on the Sabbath. We all know that, don’t we? And so if you’re going to have a law that you cannot work on the Sabbath, why then you’re going to have to say, well, then what is work? That’s why today you will see Orthodox Jews on the Sabbath walking to their synagogue. How many of you have seen that with their caps on their heads and their little kids to cute seeing how many I’ve seen people walking like that? Why aren’t they driving? Well, because it would be a sin to use a manmade human instruments such as a car. And so your walk to the synagogue because you can’t work on the Sabbath. Now to me. I would think walking is a lot more work than driving a car. But they can’t use that manmade instrument. I’ve told you the story before and I tell it again, about being in Israel on the Shabbat or the Sabbath. And you they couldn’t, they decided that you can’t use these manmade instruments. So if you’re staying in a hotel, how are you going to get to the upper floor, because you can’t use these manmade instruments like cars and elevators. And so somebody came up with a brilliant idea, well, that will develop a Shabbat elevator. And when you stand in front of it, it will automatically open the doors and or if it is upstairs, come downstairs, open the doors, and then go up to the top floor and stop at every floor down automatically. And therefore you won’t you’re not working at it, you’re just walking on it and letting it do its work. It kind of I guess if your car could drive without you driving it, you could get in the car and get there on the Sabbath. But, but that’s kind of the mentality. I mean, this is the thinking of people have gone through all of this thinking to determine what’s right and wrong and what you can do on the Sabbath. And so they just get on the elevator and go up the top floor and then whatever when it stops, they get off now how they get in the room, I don’t know. But I guess they got to have to turn the key that would I would call that work, but they don’t. But they get in their room. Now that’s how silly laws can get.

And so one of the laws that they had was that you cannot spit on the ground on the Sabbath. Because spit makes mud and that would be work. So if you’re gonna spit, you’re gonna have to hawk on a rock. You’re not gonna do that on on mud, and hope none of it slides off. You’ve got to do it on a rock. Now, that’s why this story is being told. He spit on the ground and he made mud with the saliva and he put it on the man’s eyes. Now guys, how many of you think that mud causes the blind to see? I don’t think so. So he’s got a reason for doing this which we’ll hear in just a moment. And he said go wash in the pool of shalom and which means sent that would also be constituting would be constitute work would be going and washing your eyes. So the man he had mud put on his eyes went and washed and came home seeing. His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging, ask, isn’t this the same man who used to sit and beg? And some claim that he was and I’ve and others said no, he only looks like him. But he himself subsisted. No, I’m the guy. I’m the man. Well, then how then were your eyes open? They demanded. While he replied, The man that they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. You could hear their ears mud made mud made, but on the Sabbath. And then he told me to go Shalom. He told him to work told me to work at work. And so I went and washed. And then I could see, Where is this man? They were not asking where is this man? So I could go worship Him. They’re saying, Where is his man so I can go annihilate him for working on the Sabbath? He said, I don’t know. They brought the Pharisees to the man who had been blind. And now on the day which Jesus had made the mud and open the man’s eyes was the Sabbath. Guys, can you imagine being one of Jesus apostles and disciples, following him around knowing what the Hebrew laws were? And then seeing him doing this on the Sabbath? Can’t you almost hear him say, Jesus, wait till tomorrow? This guy’s been blind for years wait for tomorrow. And I got a story to tell here. The Pharisees asked him how he had received his sight. He put mud on my eyes, the man replied, and I washed. And now I see. Here’s the response. Here’s the tender hearted response of a legalist tender hearted, so grateful that you can see. This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath. That’s all they can care about.

They didn’t care that this poor beggar was blind. And now he could see. All they could think about is somebody spit on the Sabbath and made mud on the Sabbath and told the guy to go wash on the Sabbath. That’s all they could think about their little narrow minded thinking that all they could get into their cranium was this man sinned on the Sabbath. Others began to think it that’s that’s encouraging sign. Some others were saying Hold on a minute, how can a sinner that you’re saying is such a sinner? How can a center do such a miraculous sign? And so they were divided. Some people were saying, he’s a sinner, he worked on the Sabbath. The other is saying, How in the world could a sinner do such miraculous signs? Divided, just like a country today politically divided. Why? One’s looking at something one way someone else is looking at it from a totally different vantage point. It’s like looking at the moon, one’s looking at it from one side, the light side, the other is looking at it from the dark and arguing over the moon. So they were divided. Finally, they turned again to the blind man, what do you have to say about him? And now we’re getting back to about this person that healed you. It was your eyes that he opened? They’re asking the question again, the man replied, What do you say about him? It was your eyes that he opened? The man replied, he’s a prophet. The Jews still did not believe that he had been blind and receive sight until he sent for the man’s parents. So they said, We got to get some evidence here. Is this your son? And they said, Is this the one you say was born blind? How is it that he can now see? The parents answered we know He’s our son, the parents answered, and we know he was born blind, those things we know. But how he can see now or who opened his eyes? We don’t know. Ask him he’s of age, he’ll speak for himself. Don’t ask me, ask him. His parents said this, because they’re afraid of the Judeans. There was great fear among the Pharisees, that you’ll get kicked out of the temple. People live in fear today that you’ll get kicked out of the church if you do something bad. They already decided. The Judeans had already decided that anyone who acknowledged that Jesus was a Christ will be pulled out of the synagogue. So they were afraid of them. And this was why the parents said he’s of age ask him. A second time they summoned the man who had been blind, they went back again to the man said, Okay, we’ll go ask him again, give glory to God. They said, We know this man is a sinneer. So give God the glory. That’s the reason you can see but as far as Jesus, we know he’s a center. So the again, you’re trying to spin this thing. We know that some miracle occurred here. So give glory to God will go along with that. But just recognize the fact that this Jesus who told you to do that that’s a sinner. Now, the reply of this blind man was this, whether he’s a sinner or not, I don’t know. But one thing I do know, I was blind. And now I see. I don’t know. You could say to a person if they want to do I don’t know everything there is to know about this person who saved me. But one thing I do know is once I was lost, and today, I’m saved. Because that’s what Jesus does. He saves us. Then they asked him, What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes? Now, guys, he just got through saying, look, we’re back here. Whether he’s a sinner or not, you give glory to God. But we know this man’s a sinner, whether it’s a sin or not, I don’t know. One thing I know is I was blind. But now I see. Now they’re back. What did he do to you? Now they’re back to Jesus. How did he open your eyes? He answered, I’ve told you already and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples too? You could just see the rage coming out. They hurled insults at him and said, You are this fellas disciple. were disciples of Moses. Now they’ve kind of gotten off Abraham and God, now they’re back to Moses, were disciples of Moses. And we know that God spoke to Moses. As for this fellow, we don’t even know where he comes from. And the man answered. Now that’s remarkable. You don’t know where he comes from, and yet he opened my eyes. We know that God does not listen to sinners. Now this is a blind guy talking to the educated Pharisees. God doesn’t talk to sinners. He listens to the godly man who did it who do it who does his will. Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind. If this man were not from God, he could do nothing. What a reply, talk about a put down. To this, they replied, is the only thing they can say now they’re gonna go right after him the same way they went after Jesus. You were steeped in sin at birth. How dare you to lecture us? I have a PhD. And they threw him out.

And folks, the same is true today, when your content gets weak you shark louder, talk louder and faster, and then start relying upon your degrees. And that’s exactly what takes place today. And the issue is that I certainly don’t want to discredit education. And I don’t want to discredit people who have taken the time to get an education. But an education apart from wisdom is worthless. And you know it and so do I. And the whole issue is that if you have the wisdom of God, that there’s only one place for you to go to get it, and it’s not a textbook, it’s the Bible. You got a book that replaces all the books in the library that people studied to get degrees. And you got a book. And folks, to be real honest with you, from the new covenent on, you can just start with the Gospels. And your book that God wants you to read is only that thick, not big at all. And he says, If you’ll get into that book, and you’ll devote yourself to studying this book, and what’s in it, you will have the wisdom of God at your disposal. Now is that something, just a few pages, just a little tiny thing like that. And you will have the entire wisdom of God at your disposal. Now I’ve given you the book, and I’ve given you my Spirit to live in you. Because without my Spirit, you’re not going to be able to understand the meaning of this word, you understand what it says Pharisees knew what it said, but didn’t have a clue what it meant. I’ll give you my Spirit to live in you. So that through my Spirit, you can understand the meaning of the word of God. And I don’t care for that point on what kind of an education you have. I don’t care from that point on of how successful or unsuccessful you are. You will be the most successful person in the world because you’ll be steeped in knowledge from God. My friends, if riches brought you happiness, why isn’t there just hillarity in Beverly Hills? Or in South Lake? or wherever else it is in Dallas down in Highland Park? Do you think when you knock on every door that you’re just gonna see bubbly happiness coming out of every home? You know why? Because people live in those houses. And a house doesn’t make a home. Christ makes a home. And I don’t care what kind of a home you live in or how many pools you have, or tennis courts or anything else. If you don’t have Christ, you’re a fool, according to God. And the success of man is not predicated on how much money you have or how much many homes you have. Success is predicated on who you belong to. If you belong to Christ Jesus, you’re the most successful person on the face of this earth you have accomplished the ultimate of the American dream. You’re in dwelt by Jesus, and you’re gonna live forever. You have accomplished what the most wealthy person the world can never accomplish on his own eternal life. How many of you know when you’re gonna die? Not a one you. You could walk out of this place today and get hit by a car and die. Are you in Christ? If you are you’re gonna go into the presence of God and hear the words well done good and faithful servant come on in to my eternal life. How you gonna get more successful that?

So folks, we’re learning about this man called Jesus. Had some people call on the radio the other day and you know, they get in and they talk about Yushea. And we’ve, you know, praise Yushea and, and, and then and then then we got to call him by other Hebrew names and, and all of this type of thing and you know, praise Allah. No, not Allah. But you go back you know, it’s all kinds of names of God Elohim there’s all kinds of names that we have Jehovah’s Witnesses gone Jehovah. See, the name points to the person not to the name. It’s at the name of Jesus. Every knee will bow doesn’t mean a name. It means who the name belongs to. Nobody’s saying we sit around stand up, I say, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, something’s gonna happen. Yeah, you’re gonna get tired of saying, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. The name of Jesus points to Jesus, the name of Yushea points to Jesus. I don’t care what your colleague is pointing to this man that we’re studying about. Jesus of Nazareth. So people get all hung up on whether you’re speaking his name in Hebrew or speaking it, who cares? You’re pointing to him. We get so hung up guys, on incidentals, insignificant things, and we miss the person of Christ Jesus.

Well, let’s pray together. Father, we thank you so much for your word. Help us Father to not be slouches. We recognize there isn’t one thing in our flesh that wants to study this word there isn’t a thing about it that wants to do it. Allow us to not listen to the desires of the flesh, but to listen to the desires of the Spirit, to dedicate our hearts to getting into the Word of God and studying truth and letting God reveal these nuggets to us personally. Not to have to depend on someone else, but to depend upon the Spirit of God that lives in us. And Father, we thank you that we have the privilege of doing that. We have the privilege of listening to you. That’s why you gave us two ears and one mouth so that we’ll do more listening then we do talking. We need to have our minds saturated with truth so that when we pray to you, we can pray in truth and in Spirit instead of air and the flesh. So Father, we thank you for allowing us to take time to pause and to think about the things of Christ. And we pray in His name and for his sake. Amen.
