The Day You Were Born Again, You Received God’s Holy Spirit!

~ The Day of Pentecost spoken of in the book of Acts (fifty days after Jesus’ resurrection was the first Pentecost). Prior to that date nobody was born again of the Spirit of God. That’s important for us to understand, because that marks the day the whole world changed for Man. We should be jumping for joy, and realizing we are a new creature in Christ Jesus when we each had our day of Pentecost! The apostles certainly became aware of something different in their lives on that very day. They also became BOLD in the Spirit of God!

~ “But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:” ^{Acts 2:14}

~ “Now turn over the book of Acts, next page over. In chapter two, the Holy Spirit came. And he came upon the disciples. He came to live within them the day that salvation was now complete, the Cross had already occurred. And this was some days later, on the day of Pentecost, 50 days after His ascension, that they were together and the Holy Spirit came to indwell the believer, to make a brand new person that had never been created before. A person alive spiritually with a total inability to ever lose that life. The day of Pentecost. Why did they have permanent life on the day of Pentecost when they received the Holy Spirit? Because of the cross where He took away the cause of death? Because of the cross of Jesus Christ, where he took away the sins of the entire world, took it away, never to see it again. Now, somebody had a guy the other day say, Well, Jesus didn’t complete His work. He said, he said, he took away the sins of the world, and I still see it. Who did he take away the sins of the world, from whose eyes? God’s. When Jesus died on the cross, and shed the blood of God Himself for our sins. He looked at the Father and the Father said, propitiation has taken place, I am satisfied. That offering of the blood of God took away sins from my eyes forever. When he say he took away the sins of the world, who do you take it away from? The eyes of God. When God looks upon you, who does he see? The righteousness of Jesus, clothed in his righteousness. When he looks upon a lost man, what does he see? A lost man, naked, in need clothes, but naked, until you accept the life of Jesus. So the day of Pentecost are the most important days. I wonder. I’m surprised we don’t celebrate that over here the way they do in Europe. They have Pentecost Sunday over there, maybe some other denominations do, we ought to be celebrating that as the most important day of our lives as a church member. Celebrating the day that God came to invade his creation and give life to the dead. So prior to this time, these men didn’t understand. Why? They weren’t indwelt by the Spirit.” ~ Bob George

Were the disciples saved as we went, we know what salvation is today? Salvation, is the receiving of life isn’t not. The receiving of life is when you receive the Holy Spirit. On the day that you come to Christ for life, you’re alive spiritually. Are we together? Now, they were not alive spiritually, until the day of Pentecost. How could they have been alive spiritually when the Spirit of God did live in them yet? When did the Spirit of God come to live in the disciples? On the day of Pentecost. Turn with me back to the Gospel of John Chapter 21, Chapter 20, excuse me. Verse 19.

Verse 19, on the evening of the first day of the week, when the disciples were together with the doors what? Locked. How come? For fear of the Judeans. Jesus came and stood among them and said, Peace be with you. Can you imagine somebody coming in walking through the wall and saying peace be with you? When he said when he said this, he showed them his hands and his side and disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Now, guys, this was very shortly before Pentecost. Where were the disciples who had followed Jesus for three years? Seen he raised Lazarus. You’d think that you’re pretty convinced by that. Were they convinced that Jesus was maybe the Messiah? Yeah. Did they know what that meant? No. How come? They couldn’t know what it meant. Why? Because the Spirit of God didn’t live in him yet. And unless the Spirit of God lives in yet, he can’t reveal what it means. So here were the disciples in utter fear, Peter and all the rest of them living behind locked doors, in utter fear.

Now, after the Spirit of God came to live in these people, in Peter, who just a few days earlier, they were behind locked doors, in fear of the Judeans, who they knew that if they killed Jesus, they would kill them. And all of a sudden, this man Peter, who was hiding behind doors, stands up in front of the whole crowd, with the 11, raised his voice, and addressed the crowd. Fellow Judeans and all of you who live in Jerusalem let me explain this to you. Let me explain what this means. This is the same Peter who a few days before, didn’t understand what he was doing. But now indwelt by the Spirit is going to explain the meaning of all of this. So listen carefully to what I say. These men aren’t drunk, as you suppose it’s only nine in the morning if it was five, maybe different, but it’s only nine. But this was what was spoken by the prophet Joel. In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people, your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, your old mental dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I’ll pour out my Spirit of those days and they will prophesy. What do you mean prophesy prophesy about the Lord. I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs of the earth below blood and fire billows of smoke and the sun will be turned to darkness in the moon to blood, before the coming of the angel and the glorious day of the Lord and everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved. Men of Israel listen to this. This Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him. As you yourselves know. This man was handed over to you by God set purpose and foreknowledge and you with the help of wicked men put Him to death by nailing him to a cross. This is the same Peter guys that was hiding behind doors, who’s now saying this Jesus is the one you killed. Think there’s been a change in his life? Does it sound like a different Peter? Is he denying the Lord anymore to two little women? Cowering? No, he’s up boldly proclaiming that this Jesus that you crucified is the Son of God. That God raised Him up from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. David, your David said this about him, I saw the Lord before always before me because he’s at my right hand, and I will not be shaken. And therefore my heart is glad my tongue rejoices my body will also live in hope, because you will not abandon me to the grave. Nor will you let the Holy One see decay. And you have made known to me the paths of life, and you will fill me with joy in your presence. Brothers, he said, I tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried and his tomb is here today. But he was a prophet, and knew that God had promised him on an oath that he would place one of his descendants on the throne. Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of Christ, that He was not abandoned to the grave. Nor did his body see decay. And God has raised this Jesus to life. And we’re all witnesses to this fact. Exalted to the right hand of God, he’s received from the Father, the promised Holy Spirit, and has poured out, what you now see in hear, for David did not ascend to heaven. And yet he said, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit up my right hand and tell I make your enemies a footstool for your feet. Therefore, let all Israel be assured of this. God has made this Jesus whom you crucified, both Lord and God. Does this sound like a wimpy man behind closed doors? What’s the difference? The Holy Spirit. What’s the difference? The Holy Spirit living in him and you, your only hope of glory.

There are many people today possibly sitting in this room or within the sound of my voice, who may be like the disciples, heard things about Jesus but they didn’t understand all this. Why? They didn’t have the capability of understanding. Why? They weren’t possessed by the Holy Spirit. Or if they were in dwelt by the Holy Spirit, they weren’t relying upon the Holy Spirit to reveal truth to them. They’re just relying on their own information or I’ll just come on Sunday and rely on all Bob to give it to me. And so the church has become a hired gun place, where if you got somebody just bring them on Sunday and ole Bob will shoot them down. That is not the church. This room in here is not the place for evangelism to take place. This room in here is to grow the saints. So that when you go out where the lost are, you can evangelize and then bring them in to grow. We’ve reversed it. Make the church the evangelistic place. That’s where you can get saved. Because it’s good, where your saved here, you’ll stay here.

Guys, when you are indwelt, by the Spirit of God, you are a new creation. If any man be in Christ, and Christ in them, he is a new, what? Creation. You had to be born by your mom and dad. That’s the only way you got here was because of what mom and dad did. But you also have to be born again now spiritually. You had a natural birth. Now you need a spiritual birth. And your mom and dad cannot give you spiritual birth. Only God can create a spiritual being. Mom and Dad created a natural being. But only God can create a spiritual being. And so therefore God did not birth you so to speak, he created you. You were not created in the image of God, when you were born into this world. You were created in the image of Adam, born in the image of Adam. And we’re told that in Genesis that when God when when Adam and Eve had Seth, Seth was born in the image of Adam, Adam and Eve was created in the image of God, Seth was born in the image of Adam. Are we together? You weren’t created in the image of God, you were born. You never were created until you were born again. When you were born again, you’re created now in the image of God, you now have a spiritual birth that can only be brought about by the Spirit of God. Now you got someone living in you. His name is God. The Holy Spirit of God lives in you. He said you have the mind of Christ living in you. Why? Because you got God living in you. You didn’t come without his head.

You have the mind of Christ living in you, I have the mind of Christ living in me. It’s hard to tell some time because we don’t draw on it very much. We lean on our own understanding, don’t we? But available to us is at any time any moment of the day I have the privilege of participating in the divine nature that lives in me. What does that mean? Access His mind. Let God teach me truth. Teach my mind, control my emotions, direct my will, so that our behavior becomes consistent with the one who lives in us. That can’t be done apart from the ministry of the Holy Spirit guys. That can’t be done by joining church. It can’t be done by just saying I’m a Christian. Everybody says they’re a Christian that is not a Jew To the point where the Jewish people think that the opposite of Jew is a Christian instead of a Gentile the opposite of a Jew isn’t a Christian the opposite of a Jew is a Gentile. You got lost Gentiles you got lost Jews you got saved Gentiles you got saved Jews. Guy says I’m a Messianic Jew said big deal. I’m a messianic Gentile. Now let’s forget about our natural heritage and get on with who we are a child of God. I think I’d rather be one of those and it would be a Jew or Gentile, wouldn’t you?

A child of the living God, that’s what he made us into. What’s the difference? One day, they didn’t understand all this. The next day, they understood all of it. One day, they were cowering behind closed doors fearful for their lives of the leadership. The next day, they could give a flip less about the leadership. This is Jesus who you crucified. And I’m gonna proclaim it. I’m not gonna worry about being politically correct. Or offending somebody who doesn’t like it. Because I don’t like what you teach either. Bold as a bull. Where the boldness come from? the Holy Spirit. Guys, what makes you bold? Knowledge of something.

That’s why I’m so bold when it comes to computers (laughter). Robert and I were bold on that aren’t we. I mean, I learned how to turn one on. I’m bold with that. How come people who know computers are bold? I mean, they just tell you what it did. Why? They know it. They know it. That’s why Jesus says I want you to have knowledge about me. I want you to know me why when you do you’re gonna be as strong as horseradish and talking to people about it. People say to me some time, you’re pretty strong and bold. So what do you want me a wimp? Please come to Jesus (wimpy voice ~ laughter).

Man, I know Jesus, I don’t need to wimp it up. I know him. And if the Holy Spirit of God lives in me, he gives me the boldness to proclaim him just like he does you. You don’t have to rely upon a church membership for that you got to rely upon the fact am I indwelt by the Spirit, does the Spirit of God live in me? And if he does, my friends, he’s given you everything that you need for life and for godliness. Everything you need to you could have stood up and given a speech yourself. Had you been there? And folks, this Jesus, whom you crucified, is both Lord and Christ. You know what happened to people? Said, brothers, what shall we do? What what do we do to be saved? Then change your mind, which is what Repent means. Be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness because of the forgiveness of your sins. And you’ll receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, the promises for you and your children and for all who are far off for all whom the Lord our God will call the Lord our God will call.

Folks, that’s the importance of so understanding the message of the Holy Spirit of God. You cannot have the power that God looks for us to have, and to have the boldness that he wants us to have if we don’t know what we’re talking about. That’s why people hate to change jobs, is because when you go into a new job, you feel dumb as a mule. You know, and we hate to feel dumb. I mean, I’d rather feel sinful that dumb. We don’t like to do it, but everyone’s gonna feel dumb in a new job, aren’t they until they get to know the vernacular and get to know the product, then they don’t feel dumb anymore. And what change happens? Well, there’s a one well, I’m not real sure what I’m doing and then you learn and then you’re out just as bold as brass. It’s same thing of the Lord. He says, I want you to know him. I want you to study the Word of God. I want your mind to be renewed. It can’t be renewed when you don’t study the Word of God, guys, how are you going to get to know Jesus? Apart from studying about Jesus? This is a book about Jesus. How are you going to get to know him? How are you going to get to experiencing apart from depending on the Spirit of God who lives in you to reveal the meaning of the word of God to you? I don’t know how you’re going to do that. And that’s why it talks about in the scriptures. Don’t be conformed to the world, but to be transformed how? By the renewing of your mind. What’s the renewing of your mind? What does that mean? It means that your mind is full of stuff and get it renewed on truth. Your mind is full of lies. You’re gonna have religious lies, can’t you? Have any of you ever been taught religious lies? You can have secular lies, you got lies all over the place, every every piece of advertising has, to a degree a lie in it, it’s got a hook in it. I love these advertising for drugs. Take this drugs, it’ll cure your arthritis, of course, there’s some side effects, you’re gonna bleed to death, you’ve got this, you say, Well, I wonder what I’m going to take for those things. So it’s all gonna hook you. And he says, I want you not to be conformed to the world. But I want you to be transformed by the renewing of your mind, I want you to fill your mind so much with truth that you’ll spot error like that.

You see, guys, if I owned a bank, I wouldn’t spend much time at all teaching people what counterfeit look like, because, man, it’s gonna be a long study. But I would absolutely teach you what the real dollar bill looks like. And I would hammer you so hard on what the real bill look like that you could spot a piece of counterfeit like that. Why? Because you know what the real thing is. And when you know what the real thing is, you can spot error like that. So what do you do? Give it back to him. That’s what we do when we know the Word of God. And we know not only what it says, but we know what it means we can spot error like that. And what do you do with that error? You give it back to whoever tries to give it to you. That’s why I don’t listen to much Christian stuff. I really don’t. Why? Because I get my Christian stuff out of here. So that when I hear that stuff, I know how to turn it off. It’s why I got most of those programs off my remote. I don’t even bother with them anymore. There’s too much error. I can’t handle it. I got enough trouble with a critical spirit without listening to television.

I want truth, I don’t want to listen and decipher and plow through a bunch of garbage in order to get some truth. I don’t go in and to a steak dinner. And they serve the plate and it’s got a whole bunch of garbage on top of it and say What’s that? That’s garbage. Well, where’s the steak? Underneath the garbage just plow through it, you will get to it. I just want a steak and the way you’re gonna know whether or not you’re getting truth or not guys, again, it’s not listening to me. Or listening to anybody else. It’s you and Jesus. Just you and Jesus, and the book. This is his love letter to you. And that you and Jesus together just alone, and let Jesus talk to you. And he reveals truth to you. And what’s that truth do for you? It sets you free from what? All the garbage that’s out in the world. And when the Son of God has set you free, you will be free indeed. When the Son of God has set you free. Isn’t it great guys to be free?

So as only after Jesus was glorified only after Pentecost and all these things happened that they realized that these things had been written about him. They now knew how all this fit together. And then all that these people have done to him. Now it says Now the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised Him from the dead continued to spread the word. They were excited to have been indwelt by the Spirit of God. Many people because they had heard that he had given this miraculous sign went out the meet him. So the Pharisees once again said to one another, this is the leadership guys. See? This is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him. Guys why today is that the whole world going after Jesus? I believe it’s because people are not depending upon the Spirit of God or people who don’t know the Spirit of God or people Never had the spirit of God are out trying to talk about Jesus that they don’t know. And you know, if you want to go out and you want to do something good for God, and you don’t know anything about Jesus talk about your church. I can talk about that. Yeah, we got this program, we got this program, we got three trees, wow. We’ve got all this stuff, just look what we’ve got and talk about church and church and church. I got so sick of going out to lunch with my friends. This was years ago, and going down and hearing about church church church our churct church churc all your church, our church, I got so sick of that said, Does anyone ever talk about Jesus? Does anyone talk about this personal relationship? Or as all we talk about is what we have and how many tables we have and how many trees we have? Is that all in people have to talk about? What about Jesus? What about this personal relationship that we have with God? What am I talking about what God did in and through our lives here the day and we’re at work and talking to this guy about Jesus if he didn’t know him, it’s all about things. And the reason we talk about things that we do know is because what we should be talking about, we don’t know. And that’s Christ. And so he says, it’s getting us nowhere.

Guys, we have to understand the truth or something. That in many cases, leadership denominationalism is going to ultimately start in their seminaries. And whatever the leaders of denominational heads believe is what’s going to be passed on through seminaries. Do you know by statistics, I think the figure is 75 to 80% of the people teaching and seminaries today do not even believe in a virgin birth. Now that’s all of them combined, there are some fine seminaries don’t get me wrong. There’s some fine ones. But if you take all them together, all the Catholics and all the Protestants together and put them all together, 70 to 75%, don’t even believe in the virgin birth. A huge, higher figure that don’t believe in the inerrancy of the Word of God have no respect for the Word of God. How are you going to get to know Jesus if you don’t believe the Bible’s true? Where’d you read about him? Reader’s Digest?
