Classic Christianity – In Him We Have Life – 6-01-26
~ Life is only found in One place, in One person, and that is Jesus, God our Saviour and Life Giver. He is the one who brings life to the dead. He is the one that imparts Life to the person when a person places Faith in the True Jesus, who took away all their sins at the cross, and then the Spirit of God comes to live inside that person for ALL eternity. They are a child of God forever. We have been given His righteousness who lives in us. We have been raised from the dead ourselves in Christ Jesus!
It’s important to note that forgiveness does not bring Life, Life brings life to the dead. Forgiveness was provided for at the cross for ALL people for ALL time, and is received in His resurrected Life. Forgiveness is received, NOT gotten. A person accepts it, trusts in it to have been completed at the cross for them, through Jesus’ death on the cross, so that in His resurrected Life we might become the righteousness of God through Him. This is why, when a person trusts fully in Jesus, there is no sins that could separate a person from God. Bottom line, Salvation is Life, not getting your sins forgiven.
Romans 4:22-25:
This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.”
Now the words “it was credited to him” were written not only for Abraham, but also for us, to whom righteousness will be credited—for us who believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was delivered over to death for our trespasses and was raised to life for our justification.
—
And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone. Luke 18:18,19
Jesus is God in flesh: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

Pray to God:
Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?
Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”
~ Bob George discusses the concept of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, emphasizing that salvation is eternal life given by God to overcome the wages of sin, which is death. He explains that reconciliation is the removal of sin, while justification is the result of the resurrection. Bob uses the example of a former heroin addict to illustrate the transformative power of salvation. He stresses that faith is a response to God’s initiative, and true faith acknowledges the eternal life and forgiveness already provided in Christ. The discussion also touches on the role of suffering in producing character and hope.
~ “So we’re back again to seeing the meaning of the cross and the meaning of the resurrection. Now, if you don’t have that passage marked in your Bible, mark it and remark it, and mark it again. When we were God’s enemies, that’s lost. We were, that’s past tense, reconciled to him through the death of his Son. How much more, having been already an accomplished fact, been reconciled shall we be saved by his life? Now, folks, if we will get that into our minds, our evangelism will totally change because in most of our evangelistic activities we have gone out to convince people that they are a sinner because of how much they sin, and you go and say to somebody that you’re a sinner and they’ll say so are you. The that it. Issue isn’t how bad of a sinner you are. The issue is how dead you are, and so the whole issue of salvation is you were born dead, and all a dead man needs is life, and forgiveness does not give life. Forgiveness gives forgiveness, life gives life, and that’s why Paul said, without the resurrection, we are to be pitied of all people and are still in our sins. What was wrong with Paul? Didn’t he know Jesus died on a cross? What was wrong with him? What was wrong? There was nothing wrong. He just understood the truth that, apart from the resurrection of Christ Jesus, that forgiveness that was provided for the whole world is received in Him. In Him you have redemption, the forgiveness of sins, so the issue is, are you in Him? And there’s many people who have accepted the provision, but have forgotten the provider, and we have to understand that truth, that many times we have come to Him for His provision, but miss the provider. You come to Jesus for Him, Him to have life, His life living in us, our only hope of glory, and in Him we get or have the forgiveness that was provided at the cross. So have you accepted the provision or the provider? Are we in Him, or have we just settled for the cross? And those are the questions that have to be asked.” ~ Bob George

Well, let’s turn to the fourth chapter of the book of Romans, the 22 verse. It was credited to him as righteousness. The words it was credited to him were written not for him alone, but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness, for us who believe in Him, who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was delivered over to death for our sins, and He was raised to life for our justification. Now we’ve talked about that, that the reconciliation is the part of the cross where the sin was eternally dealt with, and the resurrection is what brought about justification, which includes your reconciliation, but reconciliation is not salvation, that is just merely what God had to do to clear the deck for the divine action of bringing life to the dead. The problem of man was the wages of sin is death, and the gift of God is life. So salvation is life, but in order to give us eternal life, and he could have given us any kind of life he wanted to. He could have given us no life. He could have given us, he could have given us temporary life, or he could have given us eternal life. He chose eternal. Aren’t you glad? But in order to give you eternal life, he had to deal eternally with what caused death, and that was sin.
We were with a group of gentlemen the other day in connection with our radio program here in Dallas, and the one guy that was there is now one of their head bookkeepers for this ministry. He said he’d been in and out of jail so many times that he couldn’t even count it, was a heroin addict for 10 years, and today is working for a ministry, a dear, dear brother in Christ, and he was the question was asked because in the denomination that that they represent that they do teach that you could lose your salvation. And so, as I was dealing with this issue, he asked, well, you know, do you believe that you can’t lose your salvation, and it gave me an opportunity to go over the divine logic behind the fact that you cannot lose life, that Christ gave us life that was eternal, and in order to do that, he had to deal eternally with what caused death, and that was sin. So, the act of the cross is as eternal as the act of the resurrection. And so, once we get that straight, then we realize that he was delivered over to death for our sins, but he was raised to life for our justification.
Now, let’s go on now in chapter five. Therefore, and again, when you see a therefore, you ask, what’s it there for? Because of what he just had said to us. Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now what? Stand, you stand in it. It isn’t something you had today and don’t have tomorrow. You stand in the fact that you have been justified by faith and that you are a child of the living God. Now, folks, that is an identity, and we have to understand that if any man be in Christ, he is what? A new creation. A part of this new creation is that I am a justified person. I don’t get justified, I am justified. It’s a part of our identity. And guys, it was like we were talking to these gentlemen the other day, and I asked him a question. I said, do it. Do you understand that without faith it’s impossible to please God? Now we understand that then faith has to have an object, and the object of our faith is Christ Jesus, and what He has said to us. Now I’m going to ask a question, the same question asked them, would it be faith? Because faith is a responder, God is always the initiator, we are the responder, responder. Now we’ve got this thing totally reversed again. We suffer from spiritual dyslexia, and we got this whole thing reversed, where we think we initiate, and He responds. Jesus, when He was here on earth, said, ‘I don’t do anything unless the Father tells me to do it. He lived as a responder, never as an initiator, and so God has initiated to us. He has given us everything we need for life and godliness, and He says respond by faith. Now, would it be faith if you are truly born again? Would it be faith for you to say, God, please give me eternal life? Would that be faith? Why wouldn’t it be faith? Because he’s already given it to you. He’s already told you, Paul. In him you have eternal life. Now I’m going to respond to that. I’m either going to respond saying thank you, or I’m going to say not sure I believe you. And the next day I say, Lord, do you give me eternal life? Would you, as a child of God, say, Lord, please take me to heaven someday? Would that be faith? No. How come? He’s already told you that’s where you’re going? As a matter of fact, he said you’re already there, you’re already seated in the heavenlies with Him in Christ, with Christ Jesus. Would it be faith to ask Him? No, would it be faith to say, Lord, please redeem me? Would that be faith? No, how come? Because in Him you have redemption. So I already have redemption, so it would not be faith to say, “Lord, redeem me. Would it be faith to say, “Lord, forgive me? No. Why? You’re already forgiven in Him. We have redemption, the forgiveness of sins
Now, if in Him you have redemption, the forgiveness of sins, that means I am a redeemed person, that means I am a forgiven person. Does it not? Now, without faith, it’s impossible to please God. So, as noble as it sounds, am I pleasing God when I’m asking him to do what he said I’ve already done? It sounds good, though, and it makes you feel good, which is really important to feel good. But is it faith? The answer to that is no, it is not faith, and so without faith it’s what? Impossible to please God. So, when you’re dealing with this whole thing of the fact that we have now gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand, we understand that we have been translated from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have what? Redemption, the forgiveness of sins. So we are a forgiven person. That’s why, as a forgiven person, I can walk into the presence of God, calling him Abba Father, Daddy Father, and receive mercy in my time of need, without fear of condemnation, because there is no condemnation awaiting those who belong to Christ Jesus, because the law of the Spirit of life has set you free from the law of sin and death. So it’s what frees us to be who we are, frees us to walk into the presence of God, calling him Daddy Father, and to have a relationship instead of a religion, and so the Apostle Paul is setting the stage for this, and we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God, not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance produces character, and character hope. Now, what brings about all of those things? What brings them about? Suffering. Now, what do we try to do with our kids? Keep them from ever suffering, or keep them from ever having any character. Either one will do. What do we do with our own lives? Why we avoid suffering like crazy, but the issue is, in this world you are going to what? Have tribulation, you’re going to have suffering in this world, but he said, ‘Fear not, I’ve overcome the world. If you respond to suffering by faith, it’s going to do something for you. It’s going to produce character, and it’s going to produce hope, and so we don’t fear the suffering that we have because of what it produces in us.
Now it says hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us. You see, at just the right time. Now, look at this, guys. We were still powerless. Christ died for the ungodly. He didn’t die for the godly, because there weren’t any. Why do bad things happen to good people? There aren’t any good people. It’s very simple. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man, someone might possibly dare to die, but God demonstrates His love toward us in that, while we were yet sinners, He died for us. When were you reconciled to God through the death of His Son? When? When He died on the cross. Remember what it says, that while you were, when you were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son. That’s lost, that’s what He’s talking about here. Christ died for you when you were a sinner, and He died for me when I was a sinner. Now, again, what is a sinner? Exactly, who you were before Christ, you were an unbeliever. You were a practitioner of sin. A sinner is an unbeliever. The Lord said that the world’s sin is what? Unbelief in me. The sins, plural, of the world have all been put behind the back of God, never to see them again. There is only one sin that God will ever deal with you on, and that is, what did you do with my Son? Did you believe when I sent my Son to this earth to die for your sins? Did you accept that by faith, or did you reject it, or did you just say later? And so, while we were yet enemies, God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself, not counting our sins against us. So God demonstrates His love for us, that doesn’t talk about it, demonstrates His love toward us, and while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Now, what’s a conclusion to all these things? Well, since we have been justified by his blood, now what’s the.. what’s the meaning of blood life? The life is in the blood. So, since we have been justified by, you could say, the forfeiture of his life. How much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through Him? For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his what? His life, you’re not saved by the death of Christ. You’re saved by the life of Christ. But in order to be saved by the life of Christ, which is eternal, he had to deal eternally with what caused death.

So we’re back again to seeing the meaning of the cross and the meaning of the resurrection. And those are the questions that have to be asked.
So we say then that now it’s through Him we have now received reconciliation. Not only is this so, but we rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. What does that mean? That reconciliation that was provided for who? The whole world has now been received, where? In Him. It’s not complicated, is it?
Okay, let’s go on. Therefore, just as sin entered into this world through one man, and death through sin, who was that one man? Adam. In that way, death came to all men, because all sinned. For before the law was given, sin was in the world. Do we understand that? But sin is not taken into account when there’s no law. So, was sin taken into account before the law came? No, sin wasn’t taken into account. Nevertheless, it says death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who was the pattern of the one to come. What’s it talking about there? It’s talking about the law was not here yet, but the wages of sin was. When Adam sinned, we all sinned. We are born in sin, so it doesn’t make any difference whether you’re under the law or not. The wages of sin is death. Now, what was the purpose of the law? To show us our death. Paul said, “I thought I was alive, but I saw the law and said no, I’m dead. Is it important for us to understand our death? If I don’t know I’m dead, what do I want with his life? Just to join it with mine? So we’re into a situation here where he’s trying to get across to us the fact that all people are dead. It doesn’t matter whether you’re under the law or not, you’re dead. You had the Gentiles who did not have the law, they’re dead. You had the HEBREWS who did, they’re dead. That’s why I said, when you’re dealing with J_____ people, one of the first things we have to get across is that the opposite of a HEBREW is not a Christian, it’s a Gentile, not a Christian. And as a Gentile, I need a Savior. So, you’ve got a Gentile, you’ve got a HEBREW. The Gentiles lost, the HEBREWS lost. Both of us need a Savior. And when we understand that we’re not talking about becoming a Christian, you’re talking about coming alive, because if you’re dead, you need life. Doesn’t matter whether you’re HEBREW or Gentile, slave or free, you need life. So he’s saying here now. Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses. So death reigned through that full time, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, the Gentile world, that’s what he’s talking about here, HEBREW and Gentile, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come, but the gift is not like the trespass, for if the many died by the trespass of one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Christ Jesus, overflowed to the many. Again, the gift of God is not like the result of one man’s sin. The judgment followed one sin, whose sin was? Adam’s, and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought what? Justification. For if by the trespass of one man death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Christ Jesus? Are you reigning in life or is life raining on you? And those are some questions again we have to ask ourselves.
Now all Paul is doing here is establishing the fact, as he did in the first four chapters, that there is the HEBREW and the Gentile. There’s the heathenistic HEBREW that knew nothing about God. There is the heathenistic Gentile that knew nothing about God. There is the self-righteous HEBREW who knew a lot about God, but God neutralized all of us. He said to the Gentile, you need a savior, he said to the HEBREW, “You need a savior. He neutralized the whole world by saying, “All have sinned, all have fallen short of the glory of God. There’s none righteous, no, not one. And therefore there’s salvation available to whoever comes to me by faith.
Now, verse 18. Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men. For just as through the disobedience of one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of one man, the many will be made righteous. Are we all together on this? It’s so clear. I don’t even know how to expound upon it. The law was added so that the trespass might what? Increase. The law therefore therefore, was added, so that the trespass might increase, but where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that just as sin reigned in death, so grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Now that brings us to the subject that we’ll be dealing with a little bit later on, but we’ll deal with it now, and that is, well, then if the law was added so that the trespass might increase, and where sin increased, grace increased all the more, then we all just keep sinning, so that God’s grace could just be manifested, and that question is asked a little later on, and that question is asked continually. As we met with these gentlemen that I was talking about, there was a question that came up when you’re talking about this area of justified by faith, a child of God, and as we explained the fact of eternal life. How the reason that I have eternal life is because of the cross, that’s the cause of death being taken away. What caused death? Why then the question says, well, then you know, does anyone ever take advantage of that? Sure, they do, but that doesn’t negate the truth of it. You see, guys, if you have down here on the bottom line forgiveness, the bottom line is forgiveness. Then what is the difference in how I handle that and what I do with that, then if I say no, I am in Christ, I am a forgiven person, so I’m forgiven. Or you say when I sin I ask God to forgive me, then what are you? A forgiven person. So the bottom line is you’re forgiven. The difference is, how’d you get there. So, why would someone who is teaching that if you confess your sins, he’s faithful and just to forgive your sins, that and get you to keep yourself forgiven that way? Why would someone say that, just knowing you’re already forgiven will cause people to go live as a lascivious lifestyle, but this one won’t. As a matter of fact, I think the other one is better for that type of deal, because all you’re doing is just saying, “Hmm, well, I shouldn’t do this, but all I gotta do is ask God to forgive me after I’m through, so I’ll just go do it and ask forgiveness. Now, isn’t that true, that some of you grew up in a Catholic, and this gentleman I was talking to grew up Catholic, isn’t that true? Used to go out and sin, then just, you know, just go do your thing, but go to mass, get all cleaned up, and go out and do it again, and just hope you didn’t die before you got back to mass. Well, we’re doing the same thing, and the Protestant doesn’t make me, doesn’t make an ounce of difference. We’re just First John one nine, and we just don’t have to run as far. The bottom line is you’re forgiven, and so you say, well, then what’s the difference in the two? One is a response of faith, and the other is a response of presumption. In the first John one nine, we’ve talked about that. In the first, that’s the only.. and we went across it. There’s only one verse of scripture that you’re going to deal with in regard to what you think says to ask God to forgive your sins, no place else in all of the New Testament, Jesus taught under the old covenant. The New Covenant did not go into effect until the day Jesus died, so he taught under the old, and he gave us that prayer, the Lord’s Prayer. We call it the Lord’s Prayer. They didn’t, we do. And he said, when you pray, pray along these lines. Don’t pray like the heathen do, then take a prayer and repeat it over and over and over again. Pray along these lines. So, what we do, take the prayer and repeat it over and over again, like the heathen do. You never see that prayer prayed by Paul or by Paul in any of his writings, by Peter in any of his writings, by any of the apostle you don’t ever see that prayed, prayed, have totally different prayers. It wasn’t meant for that, a matter of fact, it was meant to bury us.
