Classic Christianity – How To Understand Truth – Part 1 – 6-02-26
~ for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:16
Everyone who is in Christ Jesus has the Spirit of God living in them. We therefore have the mind of Christ Jesus living in us. He teaches us His thoughts. He teaches us Truth. We are NOT to depend on our religious teachings, for they are lies. We are not to depend on what others teach us, for that is man’s teaching. We are to be taught directly by God Himself. And once you begin the depend on the Spirit of God to teach you the meaning of things, everything changes. You will not see the world the same way as others see it. Everything will become new. And the deeper your understanding of Truth, the more set apart you will be from the world in which we live. People will not understand you. They will think you are foolish to them. Because quite frankly, the so-called Christian church is teaching lies upon lies themselves, and once you begin to realize it, it will stick out like a sore thumb. And you will want to speak up and share Truth with others. The Spirit in you will continue to teach our spirit the Truth of the word of God, and the deeper things of God too. It never stops.

And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone. Luke 18:18,19
Jesus is God in flesh: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

Pray to God:
Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?
Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”
~ Bob George emphasizes that true Christian faith is centered on Jesus Christ and His work, not on personal actions or abilities. He states that faith’s object is crucial, and true faith is in Christ, not in oneself. Bob criticizes the focus on the size of faith and the complexity of the gospel, advocating for simplicity and reliance on the Holy Spirit for understanding. He highlights the importance of grace, redemption, and the unconditional love of God, which should inspire believers to endure and finish their spiritual race. Bob also criticizes the over-intellectualization of the gospel and stresses the need for spiritual discernment and direct teaching by the Holy Spirit.
~ “Folks, have you ever stopped to wonder and to think that the words that we use is a foreign language to the lost? Have we ever stopped to consider that on the day of Pentecost, when it talks about the apostles spoke in other languages, and the people’s response to that was, these men are drunk. Now, do you think that they thought they were drunk because they were speaking in another language, or did they think they were drunk because what they were speaking? You see, if someone came up to you who is from Germany and started speaking English, I wouldn’t say, ‘Hey, you’re drunk’, but if you came up and started talking spiritual language to me and I’m lost, I’d say, ‘You’re out of your mind,’ wouldn’t I? Why does not the Bible say natural man cannot understand what? Spiritual things it sounds foolish to him, sounds just like a drunk talking to you.” ~ Bob George

Bob George 0:29
Work is to be produced by faith. Now, our work can be produced by self-adulation, can’t it? And we do what we do in order to call attention to ourselves, we do what we do for our own financial gains. I could go on and on in that. If you’re in Christ, that the work that you do should be produced by faith in Him. And again, guys, we hear about this word faith, and you know you can have a lot of faith in error, can’t you? Faith is not the issue, it’s the object of your faith that is the issue, and we live in a day and age where Satan is so subtle in shifting emphasis that that’s all he has to do to get us off, not necessarily shift the words, but shift the emphasis, and so we have what we call faith movements, and you say, why would you have a faith movement instead of a Jesus movement, because you can have faith and error, and quite frankly, most of the faith movement is in error, and so we have to understand those truths, that error and truth is what we are dealing with in the Christian life, and what sets you apart and sanctifies you is not the way you act or dress, it’s how you believe, and the very moment that you know truth, you are set apart from the world that does not know truth, and we’re going to discuss that in detail today. You’re not set apart by your actions, you’re set apart by what you believe, and all you have to do is to go into a non-Christian world and start speaking spiritual truth, and they’re going to wonder what planet you came off of. You have automatically sanctified or set yourself apart from the world through your relationship with Christ Jesus. The world is not in Christ. Only a small percentage of people are truly born again, and we must understand that.
And so he’s talking about that faith must have an object, and the object of our faith is Christ Jesus, and his finished work on the cross. It is not faith in me and what I do. It’s not faith in my ability to speak in tongues, or my ability to pray, or my ability to do this. Faith’s object is not you. Faith’s object is on Him. Religion always puts the object of your faith internally on you and what you’re doing and what you’re not doing, and true faith puts the object on Jesus and what He is doing and what He has done and what He will continue to do. And so it is not faith that is the issue. The issue is the object of your faith.
Another thing we know about faith is that Jesus said that if any of us had faith the size of a mustard seed, we could move mountains. I have not moved too many of those lately. Have you? And it shows us that no one has big faith, and yet you have people saying, if you only had enough faith, you could be healed. If you only had enough faith, you’d be rich. If you only had enough faith, you’re this. And what’s the emphasis? On how big your faith is, and I got news for you. None of us have faith the size of a mustard seed, so we shouldn’t be bragging about our faith. It is the object of our faith.
Faith is like swallowing, and someone could say to me, Bob, you have to swallow to live, and I could say, well, that makes sense, and then you start thinking about it. No, it doesn’t make sense, because I could also swallow poison and die using the same mechanism that I swallow good food to live, so swallowing is not the issue, swallowing food is the issue, faith is not the issue, faith in Jesus is the issue, and there’s only one object of our faith, it’s not me, it’s Him. And that’s why He is the one that’s going to complete the work that he began in is not you. And folks until we understand that truth, how in the world are we going to walk in what God told us to walk in and that’s the Sabbath rest, resting from our works, just as He did from His. How are we ever going to rest if we still think it’s up to me? There is no rest in that, and people say, what is the Sabbath rest? What do you mean by that? And I say, I’ll tell you what I mean. It means it is well with my soul. When I sing that song, it is well with my soul. It is well with my soul, and the reason it’s well with my soul is not because of me, but because of Him, and what he completed in me, I can rest now and say it is well with my soul. I’m at peace with him, and therefore, and I’m peace with myself, and therefore can be at peace with you.
We’re talking about then our work that is produced by faith, not in faith. Faith, but in faith in Him, your labor prompted by love, love of who? Of Him responding and resulting in your loving Him. It’s not that we loved Him, but that He loved us first. Again until we understand the grace of God and the fullness of God’s love for you. How are you going to love Him back? How many times do you hear people? I’ve heard this time and time again. Well, he’s a legalist, but he loves the Lord. That’s a contradiction of terms. How in the world can you love the Lord as a legalist? A legalist is working for approval. Now, how can you love somebody that you got to be working for approval all the time? You tell me. You tell me that if I have to go out earning your love, if I’m going to love you, because I’m going to say you are too demanding. I can never do anything to please you. Something’s wrong, and yet I love you. It’s like going to church on Sunday, listening to the pastor just beating you up every Sunday, and then saying, you all come back. I can get after you again next week. Folks, we have to understand these things that God is his love, and until we come to understand His love for you, you cannot love Him back, and you cannot love God if you’re trying to earn His favor. So a person saying I’m a legalist and love God is saying I’m sorry, that is not true. You cannot love God when you’re trying to earn His favor, am I right or wrong? Can you love your wife if you got to earn her favor? You love your husband if you’re trying to earn His favor? All of no way. So, why would we think we could love God? We have to come to the truth of the fact that when we see God, there’s nothing in me necessarily to love, but you love me anyway. And your love for me is not I love you if or I love you because, but
I love you period. And I take the definition of First Corinthians 13, and I understand God, you’re always patient with me because God knows you need patience with me, and you’re always kind to me, and you never keep records of my wrongs, you’re never easily angered with me. You always hope the best with me. Folks, that ought to be good news to us. That isn’t something to sit around and yawn over. That’s the thing that the depth of our heart we’re looking for, isn’t it? That’s what we’re looking for in our husbands, our wives, our kids, our every place. We’re looking for unconditional love, but we don’t have it in us, and God does, and I think what McGee said the other day, and I was listening to him, the biggest sin on the world is the rejection of God’s love, to be so stupid that we reject unconditional love, and again, that’s many times as pride, where we say, oh, I’m too bad, I’m too bad for God to love me. Well, that’s pride, if you think you’re bad, come visit me, you know. And then we get into one-upmanship. We used to do that when we gave testimonies, and when I was a new Christian, I’d – I gave my testimony as pretty good. Then somebody else would get up, and boy, he’d really had a wildlife, so I’d try to improve mine. And so that’s not just the way we are. Love that our labor has to be prompted by the love of Jesus Christ. It’s because He loves me that now I have something to love you with, an endurance to hang in there to finish the race. That’s what Paul said. Finish the race, and at the end of that, you’re going to hear a word, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant.’
You know, folks, it’s easy to start a race. It’s hard to finish it. I could probably look pretty good right out of the shoot, but 10 steps later I’m going to die. So, finishing the race is a lot harder than starting the race, and a lot of people start this race but never finish it. And so he’s saying endurance that inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. What is our hope? If you’re going to serve the Lord, you’re going to have trials and tribulation, folks. That’s just all there is to that. But he said, “Fear not, have overcome the world.” And the issue is, it isn’t going to be forever. Whatever you’re going through in trials and tribulation today is short-lived. It is not going to be forever, and that’s the hope that we have. It’s the blessed hope that we have in Christ Jesus. That what I experience down here is very short-lived. And one of these days we’re going to be absent from the body and present with the Lord, and therefore we’ll never see sin again, we’ll never see death again, we’ll never see hardships again. And to me, that’s a good deal. I’ve mentioned before, guys, that coming out of a business world, I know what a deal is, and a deal, and a deal is when I’m exchanging something that you have that you deem of value for something that I have that you deem of more value, and I believe what you have has more value than what I have. You have a car, I have $20,000 you think my $20,000 is worth more than your car, and I think your car is worth more than my $20,000 Will you have a deal? You give me your car, and I give you the money. That’s a deal, isn’t it? Well, folks, that’s exactly what has taken place. God has said to us, Bob, I want you to live down on this earth for just a few brief years, and the older you get, you see how brief that is. You, and in exchange for that, I’m going to let you come and live with me through eternity, never to see death again, never to see illness again, and to live in my presence through all eternity. And I say, Lord, you’re talking about just this little brief time down here in exchange for that? He says, I say, that’s a deal, that’s a deal, and that’s where we are to say to make our bodies available to Him as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable in the sight of God, which is our reasonable act of worship for just a few brief years in exchange for living eternally in the presence of Christ Jesus. I say that’s a good deal.
I read yesterday in the religious section. Do any of you ever read the religious section? There was an article in there by this guy, quite a long article, and I read it. I’m telling you, this intellectual gobbly gook that people come up with, he doesn’t know what he’s saying, for sure. I don’t know what he’s saying. Nobody knows what he’s saying. That’s a sign of an intellectual. When they say something that he doesn’t know what he’s saying, you don’t know what he’s saying, you must assume he knows what he’s talking about. So we call them intellectuals, I mean, so complicated nobody could understand what in the world he was talking about. And my mind flashed back to that, to this verse that we have fallen away from the simplicity that is found in Christ. We’ve tried to complicate a simple message of salvation by grace and living by grace. A simple message. Do you think Paul had the ability to impress people with his intellect? Just, I think, just slightly. In the first place, he said, “I speak more languages than all of you.” So, he was a linguistic man, he knew many, many languages. He said he was, he was one of the Pharisees of the Pharisees. He was a teacher among teachers. He was brilliant, but he said, I’m not going to use that brilliance to minister to you, because if I did, your faith would be in me and my brilliance, instead of on the simplicity that is found in Christ Jesus. And when we try to intellectualize the gospel, that’s what we’re doing, is calling attention to us instead of to Him, because this is not a complicated message, it’s a very simple message, but it’s a very profound message.
Folks, have you ever stopped to wonder and to think that the words that we use is a foreign language to the lost? Spiritual things it sounds foolish to him, sounds just like a drunk talking to you.

Bob George 13:52
On the day of Pentecost, you obviously had a gift that was given to the 12, and it says those, these men, these men, they said the 12 who are speaking to you are not drunk, they’re speaking the word of God to you. Now, when you’re talking about that day, there were people from all different countries and all different languages, so a gift was certainly given to those 12 apostles, or those 11 apostles, to proclaim the gospel in languages that they had not learned. There’s no question that was true, but I don’t believe that was the dynamic of tongues. I think what the dynamic of that was was what they were speaking, not how they were speaking. Why would God give you an ability to speak German in order to talk about how to build a Volkswagen? Now, just, why would he do that, or to talk about German history, or to talk about German countryside? Why would he want to do that? Why would I want to give you a gift to speak a language you had never learned to talk about that kind of stuff? The reason for the gift was to communicate the gospel, not to impress people with your linguistic ability, but to proclaim a gospel, and that’s why he said tongues are not for believers, but for unbelievers, because it’s only the unbeliever that can hear that what you’re saying, and saying this is words I’ve never heard before. They’re not impressed with the language you’re speaking, they’re impressed with what you’re speaking, and when you see the dynamic of this, how God gave these people a message to proclaim and a language to proclaim it in, and we’ve started worshiping at the foot of the language instead of the message, and all hung up on a language when the only purpose for the language was to communicate truth, not to talk about German countryside. We, as children of God, if we know the Lord and have been taught by the Lord, speak a foreign language to the world, and that’s why folks, you can’t go out to a lost person and teach all kinds of high theology. They don’t know what you’re talking about. The only thing they know what you’re talking about is Jesus, the simplicity that is in Christ Jesus, and there’s not a soul alive that is not capable of understanding the gospel of Jesus Christ. Understanding the deeper truths, said they can’t do it, they can’t do it. We speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age, or the rulers of this age are coming to nothing. We speak a secret wisdom, a wisdom that’s been hidden and that has been destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it. They can’t understand it. Why? Natural man cannot understand spiritual things. It’s foolish to you, folks. Do we understand this, that one of the signs that you’re in Christ is being able to understand spiritual truth? And if you’re having trouble understanding spiritual truth, it may be because the spirit of God isn’t there to teach you, and if that’s not the case, that isn’t something to sit there and beat you up, it’s something to clear, something to rectify, because there’s no reason not to be in Christ, there’s no reason to reject the unconditional love that’s in Christ Jesus. No reason at all for that. Reject religion, amen. I reject that too, but to reject Christ, no. But you cannot understand spiritual things until you’re born again.
Now, what have we substituted revelation on? You’ll hear people say that the problem with the people today is they do not understand the science of biblical interpretation. Have you heard that one? You need to understand the science of a biblical interpretation, and if you don’t understand the science of a biblical interpretation, you’re not in the pale orthodoxy. Now, folks who want to say something. Nobody understands the meaning of the word of God through the science of biblical interpretation. Nobody, you may be able to quote what it says, but you don’t have a clue what it means unless you’re depending on the Spirit of God to teach you, and He doesn’t need the science of biblical interpretation to teach you. I’ve told this story before, but to me it was such an impact on my life, and that’s when I was back in business. I was a brand new Christian, and went out to a meeting on the East Coast of the manufacturer that I was in business with, and I was picked up at the airport by this chauffeur, this great big old black limousine. He opened up the door for me to get in the back, and there was no one there, and I said, “Am I the only one going back?” And he said, “Yeah. I said, “Would you mind have set up with you? And he said, “No.” And we said, “I would moved into the front seat. Guy named Wilbur on a nice black outfit and a little hat, very polite. We were driving along, and I asked him, “Wilbur, have you ever made that discovery of knowing Christ in a personal way?’ Where he just lit up like a light bulb. He said, “You a Christian?” I said, “I sure am.” Oh, well, praise the Lord. And we talked the whole way back, just talked about the things of the Lord. This guy was full of wisdom, full of it. I went to the board meeting and found out why they call them board meetings. I got out of that board meeting, and one of the vice presidents said, “Well, Bob, I’ll drive you back to the airport. I said, “Oh no, I don’t want to cause you that much problem. It’s a Saturday, we’ll just let Wilbur take me back. Thank God for that. So, Wilbur and I got back in the car driving, talked about the Lord all the way back, sweetest guy, one of the sweetest guy I’ve ever known. We were getting back for some reason, I just had it’s probably kind of dumb what I was going to say. I said, you know, Wilbur, I’d like to just send you something, I’ve just grown to love you, and I said I’d like to send you a Bible. Now, why I said that, I don’t know, obviously somebody that was that full of wisdom had a Bible, so I don’t know why I said send you a Bible, that’s what I said. And Wilbur said, well, sir, he said that wouldn’t do much good. I said, Wilbur, what do you mean it wouldn’t do much good? He said, well, sir, you see, I can’t read. And I said, Wilbur, you can’t read? He said, no, sir. I said, Wilbur. I have never met a man who had such an understanding of the word of God as you. He said I was a good listener. No, Wilbur, you may be a good listener, but you have the Spirit of God living in you, teaching you these things that people would pay millions to have.
And that day I learned something. I don’t need the science of biblical interpretation. I don’t need inductive or deductive Bible studies. I need the Spirit of God living in me to teach me the meaning of the Word of God. And there’s not a soul in this room who is born again that does not have the total capacity to understand the word of God by the Spirit teaching them, and when the Spirit teaches you something, you’ve been taught. When a man teaches you something, another man can teach you something else, and then another one can teach you something else, and you fly around, just flying over here, all over the place, going from one to another to another to another, because the Spirit’s never taught you. We’ve been depending on our Bible studies and depending upon our commentaries. What is a comment, Terry? It’s a comment by a man, doesn’t mean it might be a good comment or a bad comment, but the best comment you’re going to get from the Holy Spirit, trust Him to teach you. And so we sit there and say, I want to understand everything, and God says you can’t understand everything all at once. Give it time. A baby doesn’t understand everything, you have to mature. But maturity is going to come only as we allow the Spirit of God to teach us. Now, folks, the problem that we run in today, especially in Christendom, is that we have used the seminaries, and we’ve used biblical teaching to substitute and say, in essence, saying, ‘Don’t tell me my eye can’t see, and my ear can’t hear, and my mind cannot conceive. You don’t understand, I’ve studied Greek. Well, I got news for you, the Greeks also studied Greek. Little bitty kids are speaking Greek. How much good has it done the nation of Greece? Folks, I want to tell you something. You can hardly find an evangelical church in Greece. Well, maybe they need to learn Hebrew. Seems to me that the people that understood Hebrew were the ones who encouraged the Romans to hang Jesus on a cross, and so what’s happened, folks? If we’ve substituted, we’ve said, ‘Oh, oh, if you just could understand the Greek, and if you could just understand the Hebrew, oh, you would really understand these things. I’m sorry, folks, there’s only one way to understand the word of God: it’s allow the Spirit to reveal it to you. It’s revelation, revelation.
As you study the word of God, all of a sudden you know what it means. It says the Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? And in the same way, no one knows the thoughts of God, except the Spirit of God. Now, folks, again, no one knows what you’re thinking except you. And isn’t that a good thing? Oh, Amy said many times, I’m sure glad God didn’t make me the bubble head that people could see in what I’m thinking. Isn’t that true? Wouldn’t you hate it if everybody knew what you were thinking is that true or not? Just in a day’s time, the things that you and I can think, just in a day’s time, I just have to say, thank you, Jesus, that nobody knows what I’m thinking except the Spirit that lives within me. Now it says, in identically the same way, no one knows what God is thinking except his Spirit. Now I can look back at that without reading and say there’s a problem, because if no one knows what I’m thinking except my spirit, then you can’t know what I’m thinking, and if no one knows what God is thinking except his spirit, then how am I going to know what God’s thinking? And God says, keep reading. Here’s what it says, we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. Is that good news? God said, “No one knows what I’m thinking except my Spirit. So, what I’m going to do, Bob, I’m going to give you my Spirit, so you know what I’m thinking. Now, I’m glad God does. I wouldn’t do that. I wouldn’t give you my spirit, so that you would know what I’m thinking. Believe me, but God said I’m going to. That’s how we understand the word of God, folks. God said, I’m going to give you my Spirit, so that you can understand what I’m thinking, and so that you can understand those things that God has freely given us. In other words, understand my grace.
Do you need to have the Spirit of God living in you to understand His law? No, because who was the law given to? The lost, those who are under the law. I at the law was given to those under the law, so that I may shut their mouths. Silence every person, and every person held accountable to God under the law. Said the law is not given for the righteous but the unrighteous. Well, I’m not righteous because of what I do, I’m righteous because God has imputed to me His righteousness. So the law is not for me, the law is for the unrighteous, those who have not come to Christ by faith. So, I don’t need the Spirit of God living in me to understand the law at all. But do I need the Spirit of God living in me to understand grace? Now if my understanding of grace is whoopee, I don’t have to do anything anymore. Do I understand grace? Has grace been revealed to you by the Spirit. Are you happy by faith with the truth that your sins are put behind the back of God, never to see them again? Are you happy about that? I am. Are we happy about the fact that the scripture says in Him we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Where do you have redemption? In Him. Where do you have forgiveness? In Him. How many of you are in Him? How many of you have redemption? How many of you ask God to redeem you every day? Why? Because you have redemption in Him. I have something – redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Now that means then I am not a person who gets redeemed. It means I am a redeemed person, does it not? It also means I am not a person who gets forgiven, but I am a forgiven person. Now, if I am indeed a forgiven person, then do I ask for what I have, or do I thank for what I have? Say, what was your understanding of the gospel? Jesus died for my sins. That’s not the gospel, it’s only half the gospel. You’re not saved by the death of Christ. We’re told you’re saved by the life of Christ. What are you saved from? The wages of sin, which is what? Death by the gift of God, which is what? Life.
