Follow The Message – Part 1 – 9-08-25
~ According to the grace of God having been given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, but another is building upon it. But let each one take heed how he builds upon it. For no one is able to lay another foundation, besides the one being already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 3: 10:11
~ We are here to proclaim the gospel of Jesus, NOT focus on a man. And today we all have a tendency to say, “such and such said” as though another person has more validity than the Word of God Himself. Let the word of God speak for itself. Know the Word. Allow the Word to live in and through you. Tell it like it is, from the Holy Spirit who lives in you, by abiding in Him. The Spirit will make known ALL TRUTH to you, when you trust Him to do that. And we are to share TRUTH today, no matter where that TRUTH leads us. And folks, there are more lies than you can imagine that are going on in the world today. Many have gone before us that did not have a clue the depth of evil that is happening in the world today. Pay attention to the details in the Word of God, for the Word of God has all the answers to everything. And the Holy Spirit will make that known to you if you ask Him to. He will give you All wisdom from God, who is the one who has TRUE wisdom. Don’t lean on your own understanding of anything today. Because we were all born into a world filled with deception.
Trust in the One who laid the Foundation, Jesus Himself. And Jesus is a lot lot closer than people imagine today.
1 Corinthians 3:1-11
1 And I, brothers, was not able to speak to you as to spiritual, but as fleshly—as to infants in Christ. 2 I gave you milk to drink, not solid food, for not yet were you able. In fact, now you are still not able, 3 for you are still fleshly. For where jealousy and strife are among you, are you not fleshly, and are walking according to man? 4 For when one might say, “I indeed am of Paul,” but another, “I of Apollos,” are you not fleshly?
5 Who then is Apollos? And who is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord has given to each. 6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God kept it growing. 7 So neither the one planting nor the one watering is anything, but only God, the One giving growth. 8 Now the one planting and the one watering are one, and each will receive the own reward, according to the own labor. 9 For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.
10 According to the grace of God having been given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, but another is building upon it. But let each one take heed how he builds upon it. 11 For no one is able to lay another foundation, besides the one being already laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Does TRUTH matter? You bet it does. ALL TRUTH matters.

And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone.

Pray to God:
Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7
Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ “He said, We’re servants. Came to teach you a gospel to follow one gospel. It’s only one baptism, and it’s not like I read in a paper that that means getting dunked in the water. It’s the baptism of the Holy Spirit. It’s the day when the Holy Spirit comes and places you into the body of Christ. That’s a spiritual baptism that saves you. Paul said, water doesn’t save you. I didn’t come to baptize anybody. I wasn’t sent to baptize I was sent to proclaim the gospel. How could he say that If baptism was in the Gospel, how could you say that? You’re negating an integral part of the gospel, if it was in the Gospel, you don’t follow that.” ~ Bob George

There was a call that caught my attention that ties into what we’re talking about today and the importance of it. A lady called and said these following words, I am a Pentecostal. Do you still consider us brothers and sisters in Christ? Now I won’t talk about the answer, but I’ll talk about what I heard with that call. There is a person calling with an identity crisis. There is a person calling whose identity is not in being a child of God, it’s in being a Pentecostal. Her identity is based upon her gifts that she thinks, that she received from God. Her everything is focused, her identity on what she is doing, because you’re certainly not focused on what He has done. You’re focused on what I am doing, and you have an identity crisis. Now you see it’s so easy to see how subtle this is, guys, because you wouldn’t call and say, Hey, Bob, I’m a drug addict. Do you still consider me a brother in Christ or Bob, I’m an alcoholic, do you consider me a brother in Christ? Or Bob, I love to chase women. Do you still consider me a brother in Christ? You wouldn’t think of doing that, but you can do nice things, like, I’m a Baptist, and that’s exactly what I would have said to that lady is, I’m a Baptist. Do you consider me a brother in Christ? I’m a Presbyterian. Do you consider me a brother in Christ? Listen, I was a Presbyterian for years, and didn’t know the Lord from an apple tree, but I identified myself as something good. I go to church and I go to church at the Presbyterian Church, and I go to church at the Baptist Church, and I go to the church at the Pentecostal church. And so that’s my identity. How sad is that, my friends, do you see anything in the Bible that God came to save Pentecostals, or that He came to save Neo Pentecostals, or that He came to save Baptists, or that He came to save Presbyterians or Methodists or Plymouth Brethren? If I forgot one, some will say, yeah, I’ll see you still got that one. Do you see, my friends, how subtle this has been, where Satan so subtly came along and said, Child of God, that’s what God named you. You need to be a Baptist or a Presbyterian. In other words, if you got a label like that with a name like Smuckers, it’s got to be good. And so if I got a label, then who cares what’s on the inside of the jar, it’s just Smuckers. It’s got to be good. And that’s exactly where we are today. And we are so, so relevant to get to do this, to get along with saying, Be happy with just saying, Oh, I’m a Presbyterian or a Methodist, so don’t bother me, if what I know I don’t know anything, but that’s who I am, and that was that woman’s problem. She had an identity problem. She thought she was a Pentecostal.
And you see, if we don’t deal with that issue, my friends, in Christianity, we’ve missed the whole point, because you can’t ignore that point that something is wrong here with your identity. Now Paul is dealing with this in the book of Corinthians, and when you step from start to finish of this book, you’ll see that the goal of Paul is to get us off of being man followers and being Christ followers. From the very beginning, I appeal to you, brothers in the first chapter, I appeal to you in the name of the Lord Jesus, that you agree with one another, so that there not be divisions among you. How are you not going to have divisions among you when one says, I follow Paul, another says, Well, I follow Apollos, well, I follow Peter, well, I follow People to People, and I follow the Baptists and I follow the Presbyterians? How could you not have divisions among you? Yeah, so he says, Don’t do that. The message of the cross is, what’s foolishness to people. It’s not the man, it’s the message. The goal of a ministry is to get out a message, not to promote the ministry, but to promote the message.
And so he goes ahead to say to that, and obvious me, my friends, because you’ll see in this passage, especially when you get over into the into the fourth chapter, that it’s kind of like the apostles. He says, we’re just become second rate citizens to you people. And he says that. He said, we’re like scum. We came and taught you, and you became the tail wagging the dog. I’ve seen that. I’ve seen people that we’ve taught and taught and brother, they go out and go out and just teach like they’re the ones who thought it up. Never give credit to where they’ve heard. I learned about the saving life of Christ through Major Thomas. I’ve learned things from different people, and so the whole issue is this, and you’ve learned things from me. But he’s saying, Who, not just who is Bob George, but what is Bob George? What is Paul? What are we? He says, we’re just servants. Now he’s saying that there’s an attitude that you have toward servants. There’s an attitude that you have through people that take the gospel to you. But it is not an attitude of elevating them into some position that God doesn’t want you to elevate people to. I mean, when the Apostle Paul can say, hey, what’s Paul? You said, Brother, that’s really saying something, because there’s not a person in the world that I’ve ever read about that I had more admiration for than the Apostle Paul. How about you? Now you talk about, who do you want to meet after you meet Jesus? It’d be Paul, for me, an unbelievable man, but he said, Don’t elevate me. Don’t elevate me. You don’t need to put robes on me. I don’t wear rings for you to kiss. You don’t bow down before me. I’m not God. I’m just a servant of Jesus. That’s all any of us are servants of Jesus.
And so he was saying to them in the third chapter, I didn’t address you as spiritual. I couldn’t address you as spiritual because you’re not thinking like a spiritual person. You see when he talks about that, you’re thinking worldly, the word is carnal. And I kind of, when I came to Christ, was involved where people talk that you are a carnal Christian, but you see, that’s not true. There is no such thing as a carnal Christian. There’s a Christian who thinks carnally. There’s a Christian who thinks worldly, but his identity is not carnal. His identity is, I’m a child of God thinking like the world. So there’s no such thing as a carnal Christian. There is a Christian, as I said, thinking carnally. And so that’s what he’s dealing with. I can’t deal with you on a spiritual basis because you won’t listen to it. You don’t like spiritual things. You’re worldly in your thinking, you. Now, these would be people whose intellect got in the way that came to be smarter than the people who brought them the message. There are people that God picks out to bring a message to people, and he picked them out if they’re true messengers of God, and the apostles were the true messengers of God, hand picked. And then all of a sudden, people got smarter than the apostles, and so they would add to the gospel. They would get biases that kind of separated them from the other teaching, and people became man followers. So he said, you’re thinking worldly. There’s jealousy, there’s quarreling among you. Are you not worldly? Are you not carnal in your thinking? Now, what was the jealousy and quarreling? Well, I follow Paul, and Paul says this, and I follow Apollos. And he says this. He probably said somewhat the same thing, but I like the way Apollos said it better. Well, I follow Peter. Is there any difference, my friends? You tell me. If there is, if there’s an ounce of difference between saying I’m a Presbyterian, I follow the Methodists, I follow the Baptists, I follow the Catholics, I follow the Charismatics. He said, Where’s the division there? Did I create this division? What do you mean you follow them?
He said, We’re servants. You’re negating an integral part of the gospel, if it was in the Gospel, you don’t follow that.
So he comes along and he says that I laid a foundation as an expert builder. He called himself an expert builder, and he was someone else is building on it, but we’d better be careful how we build. For no one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid. He’s the foundation. He’s who we preach. We don’t preach ourselves. Now we have such a tendency, do we not to say, Well, Bob George said. That is so scary to me. Well, Chuck Swindoll said, Well, Charles Stanley said, well, Billy Graham said, You know what you got to say? Who cares? Who cares? Because if Billy Graham had anything to say that was worthwhile listening to or Chuck Swindoll or Charles Stanley or Bob George it was because we led you to the Bible so that you could hear what Paul said. I don’t care what I say. What I’m interested in is what did Paul have to say. But we come to such man followers, and you see, that’s suicide. Because when I hear, you know, I hear, well, he said, You know, I used to when we lived in California, there’s a lady that lived across her name was Dolores, and she was kind of a walking encyclopedia. If you want to know an answer, you just asked Dolores. And so Amy, well, Dolores said, Dolores said, Dolores said, and I said, she must be Confucius. I think it sounds like what Confucius said, because everything that Dolores said, Well, we do the same thing. Well, Billy Graham said, Well, Bob George said, or this, or this, and what you do is it causes people to rebel, because it really does. It kept saying, Who’s this, Bob George, that you’re following, because we know that following a man is not from from the Bible. We know that. Who’s this guy you’re following?

Bob George 14:11
So we need to get off of this that this is what some man said, and to get on, here’s what the scripture says. That’s what’s important. Because if you’re talking that so some pastor is a Church of Christ. He’s telling you to get baptized in water, in his water. So what are you going to say? That’s what he says. You can’t depend upon what we say, unless we’re pointing you to this book, my friends. And that’s why this message is the message of God’s grace, pointing people back to God’s grace, a return to the original, classic Christianity, return to the original, getting people back to truth that sets us free. So Paul is dealing with this issue, and he’s saying that don’t deceive yourself. If anyone thinks you’re wise by the standards of this age, he should become a fool, so that he become wise. The wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. So what is he talking about here, folks? He’s people making an intellectual deal out of Christianity. You’ll find a lot of that.
We get calls from people that almost I can detect in their voice, uh oh. We’re on to one of those, because what they try to do is to catch you. Bob, do you believe this? Well, if you believe this, you know, we had a person the other day call. Interesting, interesting concept, and I kind of blew it, because the question was, well, do you believe in the Old Testament scriptures? Yeah. Well, you know, in the New Testament, it says that Jesus died, buried and was raised from the dead, according to the Scriptures, yeah. Well, do you think he was referring to the Old Testament Scriptures? And I think I said, yeah, yeah. Probably so. Well, you do? You know that there, in any place in the Old Testament where it talks about resurrection? You know that’s true. There isn’t anything in the Now, listen to what I’m saying. There isn’t anything in the Old Testament, talking about resurrection. I want to ask you a question, because this came to me later, after I’d already blown the call. When did the New Covenant go into effect? At the death of Christ. So are the gospels in the Old Testament? Are there any old covenant? Aren’t they? We call it Old Testament. God didn’t call it Old Testament. The gospels are old covenant. Jesus taught under the Old Covenant, and in so doing, buried us under the Old Covenant. Why? You can’t live under it. I’ve told people before, if you think the 10 Commandments is hard, try the sermon on the mount on for size and see how well you do Old Covenant. So when you’re talking about the scriptures, what was Paul talking about the scriptures? Well, obviously Jesus revealed the resurrection. Could you say that the talk, the words of Jesus, were not scripture? But I didn’t catch that right then. I’m going to go back Monday and correct it. But I was still thinking about that old testament. Wasn’t even thinking about the Gospels. Gospels were not in my mind with that. I was thinking about the Old Testament and thinking, gee, that’s strange. Nothing’s mentioned in there, and there isn’t anything mentioned. There’s there’s examples. Jonah, but Jesus had to explain Jonah, because I wouldn’t have read Jonah apart from Jesus and said he’s talking about Jesus. You wouldn’t have known anything about Jesus till he came, would you? So my mind went back and again, stopped thinking about the fact that Jesus’ words are scripture. Whether it’s old or new, is irrelevant. The fact is that his words are scripture.
So at any rate, he’s saying here to us that we need to learn to quit intellectualizing the Bible. Why did that person call in regard to that? Because he had talked to some rabbi. I said, What are you doing talking to a rabbi about Jesus? That Rabbi, ain’t going to save you. There is folks. I want you and me to think about these things for a moment, and I want us to think about the importance of this man called Jesus of Nazareth. Why in the world did God bring Jesus, at a point in time in history to this world, if something prior to Jesus could save you? In the Old Covenant before Jesus, how were people saved? That’s God’s business. I say they were saved on a credit card that God gave them salvation, but it hadn’t been paid for until Jesus came. But folks, did Jesus come? Did God send him and did not this Jesus that came, say there is no other name given among men whereby you must be saved. Did he say it or idn’t he? Then, how important is this man, Jesus? Totally important. What was all of the stuff before Jesus, pointing you to Jesus? The whole Old Testament was a pointer, like an Irish setter, a pointer pointing you to Jesus. We don’t worship the tale of the Irish center. You look at what he is pointing you to, and he’s pointing you to Jesus. And from that point on, you don’t talk about salvation in any other way, except through this man called Jesus of Nazareth. That’s how important he is. His blood was of such value that it went back to Adam and forward to eternity, capable of taking away the sins of the world never to see him again. He could have saved us, maybe in other ways, but without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness, is there? So he had to shed his blood. His life was of such precious value that it was capable of doing that for eternity, for the sins of the entire world. All of us have sinned. We know that all of us have fallen short of the glory of God, and he’s the only one who could take those sins away from the eyes of God. For us, important, you better believe it. This is the center point of humanity. Is this man called Jesus of Nazareth, and that’s why Paul is saying, it sounds good to get your eyes on this preacher or this apostle, but we’re not it. We’re not it. He’s it.
And so in chapter four, we pick up in chapter four. So then men ought to regard us. He’s talking about, how are we to regard the apostles. Now you think folks of what people have done today with the admiration of people that we say are advanced apostles. And here’s he’s saying, Here’s what, here’s the way you ought to think about the apostles. Not a Latter Day The apostles. Now, there are people today who are either out of their mind or egotistical enough to claim that they’re apostles. You have apostolic churches where the pastor claims to be an apostle, he must be an old dude, because in the scriptures, in order to write the scriptures that would be written by an apostle or an amanuensis of an apostle, which meant you had to be with Jesus from his baptism, witnessing his death, burial and resurrection. So if you’re an apostle, you are one old one. They’re gone. There are no more apostles. The apostles were used to communicate the good news of the gospel, not to be revered, but to be ministers of the gospel. The apostles were used to write this New Testament that we have in our hands today. So everything that Jesus taught them has been recorded. There’s no need for another apostle. There isn’t any need for it because there’s no need for any further information. When God said, this book is finished, that’s what he meant. It’s finished, and that means that everything that God wants you to know about himself has been revealed to you and me in the person of Christ Jesus. If there’s any more to be learned. He said, I don’t want you to know it. You’re not even going to be able to comprehend what I’ve revealed to you.
But everything that I want you to know about me and the world is in here. Anything else is just just over and above. So he said Men ought to regard us as servants. That’s Paul talking, that’s Peter talking, that’s Apollos talking. That’s all of the apostles talking, that men ought to regard us as servants. That’s Christ as those entrusted with the secret things of God. What are the secret things of God? The things that hadn’t been revealed to man yet. The new covenant was a secret, the fact that the Gentiles were going to come to Christ the same way as the HEBREW, was called a mystery, a Mysterion that was held in the heart of God until God was ready to reveal it to people they were entrusted with those secrets. It is now required that those who have been given a trust might prove faithful. Paul says, I care very little if I’m judged by you or by any human court. Indeed, I don’t even judge myself. Now, why is he saying this, folks? Because people were judging him, the tail was trying to wag the dog. We learned from these people, but then I became smarter than these people. He’s kind of a nice guy. He kind of gave me the gospel, but he’s not real bright. He hadn’t been to Harvard, not real bright, nice person, but just a little dumb. But he did give me the gospel. I’ll give him credit for that. You know, Paul said I didn’t come to you using brilliant words and lofty ideas. He could have, he was brilliant, but he said, I came to you in fear and trembling. I came to you in total humility, because I wanted your faith to be in the message, not in the messenger. What do we do? We elevate people. We idolize them.
I care very little, he said, If I’m judged by you or by any human court, indeed, I don’t even judge myself. He says, My conscience is clear, but that doesn’t make me innocent. You know folks at your conscience, you know, you say, let your conscience be your guide. Well, that’s the best you’ve got when you’re lost, but when you’re saved, you better not depend on your conscience. You can program your conscience. If you, who were a Catholic and years ago, were taught that it was a sin to eat meat on Friday, and then all of a sudden, why God changed his mind and it was okay to eat meat on Friday, but you had been taught all your life that it was a sin to me to eat on meat on Friday, and you started eating meat, you’re going to feel guilty. You can create false guilt in people.
