Classic Christianity – The Word of God at Work in You – Part 2 – 6-23-26

~ Only those with the Spirit of God living inside them can understand what the Word of God means. A parrot can repeat the word of God. A seminary student can commit to memory what the word of God says. A demon and especially Satan knows the word of God inside and out. But it is only the child of God, the True born again of the Spirit of God person, who knows what the word of God means. And the more you understand the Truth of that, the further set apart you will be from the rest of the world, including the religious world. And you will eventually butt heads with those who are great pretenders and hypocrites playing as though they are Christians, but you will be able to identity them by their fruits. And it will NOT be pretty. They are the great deceivers of our day. They are everywhere, and they are satan’s transformed ministers of righteousness. Learn to identify them, and don’t give them any of your attention, and certainly do NOT promote these infiltrators of self-righteousness no matter what little bit of Truth they might share. And don’t forget, even Jesus told the demons to be quiet, and didn’t what them speaking about Him. Why? Because demons lie, and Jesus did not want the testomony of demons for anything about Himself.

So stop listening to those liars and deceivers. Stop promoting false ministers on social media. Instead, share the Truth of the word of God. Learn from God Himself, for He lives in you if you are indeed in Christ Jesus. For we have been given the mind of Christ Jesus to understand the things of God and the Truth of the world in which we live.

1 Corinthians 2:1-16

~ 1 When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. 2 I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. 3 I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. 4 My message and my preaching were not with persuasive words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 5 so that your faith would not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.

6 Among the mature, however, we speak a message of wisdom—but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7 No, we speak of the mysterious and hidden wisdom of God,a which He destined for our glory before time began. 8 None of the rulers of this age understood it. For if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 Rather, as it is written:

“No eye has seen,

no ear has heard,

no heart has imagined,

what God has prepared for those who love Him.”

10 But God has revealed it to us by the Spirit.

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11For who among men knows the thoughts of man except his own spirit within him? So too, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12We have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 And this is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom, but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.

14 The natural man does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 The spiritual man judges all things, but he himself is not subject to anyone’s judgment. 16 “For who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone. Luke 18:18,19

Jesus is God in flesh: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

Pray to God:

Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?

Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ Bob George emphasizes the importance of Jesus being the first in one’s life and the need to distinguish between the word of God and the word of men. He criticizes reliance on tradition and external sources like seminaries, arguing that true understanding comes from the Holy Spirit. Bob highlights that God chose the foolish things of the world to confound the wise, stressing humility and direct dependence on Christ. He argues against over-reliance on intellectualism and external aids like concordances, advocating for a personal, Spirit-led engagement with the Bible. Bob also discusses the concept of righteousness, holiness, and redemption as gifts from Christ, not human achievements.

“None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they would have, they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory. Now, here’s the key passages. It is written, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, nor mind has conceived of what God has prepared for those who love Him, but God has revealed it to us. How? By the Spirit. Now, guys. If you’re going to understand the meaning of the word of God, that means very simply that you’re going to have to depend upon the Spirit of God to reveal that to you. That means that I don’t sit down with human intellect and. And figure it out on my own, sit down, and I’ll get it all figured out. That’s why people try so hard to have systems to figure out the word of God, because they can’t figure it out, because they don’t depend on the Spirit of God to reveal it to you. So you can save yourself an awful lot of time by just trusting Jesus to reveal the meaning of the word of God to you, instead of trying to get involved in all of these techniques that people come up with. God will reveal the meaning of the word of God to you. How many of you found that true in your own life? If you are living in dependency upon Christ Jesus and His Holy Spirit that lives in you, the Holy Spirit that says I am here to guide you into how much truth? All truth. I’m here to take the things of the Lord Jesus and make them known unto you. That’s his job. Now, why do we deny that? Why do we act as if he did not say that? And if indeed Jesus did say that, which indeed he did. Then, why do I need to go to outside sources in order to try to find the meaning of the word of God?” ~ Bob George

Bob George 0:29
In my early days as a Christian, and I hate getting up early worse than anything in the world. Amy can verify that 4o’clock in the morning, these eyes wide open, get up out of bed, get up out of bed for two hours, three, study the word of God without stopping. That happened almost daily. Did I plan that? No. Did I go around, tell everybody about my quiet time? No. It was something God was doing, was putting on your heart to study the word of God. And we get into all these things, and these things that you do that become acts of righteousness. It’s just like the HEBREW used the law as a means of righteousness instead of a means of conviction, showing you you’re a sinner, which would prepare you for the cross, and we use all of these man-made things that we come up with. This is a love letter to us. This book is God’s love letter. Now if I had gotten a love letter from Amy when we were dating, I really don’t believe I would have sat there and said that’s a nice letter from Amy. Wonder what the Greek says? Maybe I need to structure this thing a little better. Wonder what the verbs are? It’s a love letter. It isn’t something to be dissected. It’s something to be internalized. It’s something to touch your heart that God loves you. I don’t have to sit around dissect that. I just have to read it and to accept it as Christ Jesus reveals truth to us.

So he says in here that he takes these things. It’s because of him that you’re in Christ Jesus. He is your righteousness. He is your holiness. How many of you are going to stand in front of God someday, in your own righteousness? We don’t have any. That’s why I’d had to be cleansed of all that I did have, unrighteousness. That’s happened at the cross. I was cleansed of unrighteousness, so that I could be clothed in His righteousness. And when you and I will someday go into the presence, we won’t go in these clothes, we’ll go clothed in His righteousness, or we will not go. We’ll be clothed in His holiness. We’ll be clothed in His redemption. Therefore, as it is written, let him boast, boast of the Lord.

Now He says, “When I came to you, brothers, I didn’t come with eloquence or superior wisdom.” I didn’t come with these highfalutin ideas and telling, letting everybody think how smart we are. I proclaim to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you, except Christ Jesus, and Him crucified. I’m not there to give out all kinds of information that’s going to impress you. I’m here to talk about Jesus. I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. In other words, I came to you in humility. I didn’t come to you with an arrogant attitude. I came to you in humility. My message and my preaching was not with wise and persuasive words. Now, guys, how many times are people out trying to impress us with wise and impress and persuasive words, we impress ourselves, but we’re not pressing it, impressing anybody else. And a lot of times we’re kind of like William Buckley. How many of you remember William Buckley on, and I used to listen to him, and you know, at the time it was over, he’d say, I don’t have a clue what he said, but like the way he said it, I didn’t have a clue what he was talking about, he was way over my head, and I wonder if he knew what he was talking about, but that’s what the way it is, he says, I didn’t come to you with those kind of words, but I came to you with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith may not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power, not on man’s wisdom, but on the power of God. Now it says we, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.

None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they would have, they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory. Then, why do I need to go to outside sources in order to try to find the meaning of the word of God?

I’m not saying this for everybody, because I think God deals with us individually. We’ve talked about that last week, that He doesn’t come to save bunches, and He doesn’t come to lead bunches, he came to lead you. It’s the same thing with Peter. Peter, what do you care if I allow John to live forever? I’m telling you to follow me. I’m not telling you to end this big group. I’m telling you to follow me. I have to live the Christian life myself, don’t I? I had to be born again by myself. I’m going to die by myself. And in the meantime, I want to let Jesus lead me individually. And so no eye has seen or ear has heard or mind has conceived for what God has prepared to love Him, but it’s got to be revealed by the Spirit.

I remember when I came to Christ in 1969 and I certainly was ministered to by the people that led me to Christ, but I remember one day a Bible student came by, and I guess they were making their money selling commentaries and that type of thing, and he had a concordance, an amplified concordance that you could buy for like $25 and then this huge thick concordance is, or excuse me, this huge thick book on how to explain everything to you, and you could get that for five, so the one called thin book costs 25 this one cost five, and so I said, well, I’d like to have that concordance, but I don’t want the commentary. Now, as a brand new Christian, and why God put that on my heart, I do not know. I’m not telling him to put it on your heart, but I said, I don’t want the concordance. He said, why? He said, only cost $5 I said, I don’t care what’s free, I don’t want it. Well, why? Well, because a concordance is something that is what man’s been, what he thinks that God is saying, and if, if God is telling him something that is truth, I think he can tell me. If I’m indwelt by the same God that He’s in dwelt with, and what I need to read His stuff for, let God give it to me direct. I never have like chewed up food from somebody else, and so no, I don’t. I don’t want that.

A commentary is a comment from Terry, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but guys, you can start relying on these things until your understanding of the word of God is what does the commentary say. Well, who revealed something to the author of the commentary, if he had anything to say? Who would have revealed it to him? Holy Spirit. What do they know? I need the Holy Spirit telling him, so he can tell me, or can the Holy Spirit tell me? If I trust him to tell me, I mean, does that make sense to you? If I had two children and I wanted to tell one of the kids something, I wouldn’t go to his brother and say, “Hey, tell your brother this,” I’d go to him, wouldn’t you? And so what happens to us is we start relying upon man’s wisdom instead of going to the scripture and saying what does this say, and God says that the Spirit searches all things. That’s a truth, guys. The Holy Spirit of God, who lives in you and me, searches all things, even the deep things of God. You want to know the deeper things of God, the Spirit will reveal it to you.

Who among men knows the thoughts of a man, except the man’s spirit within him? Is that true or not? Do I have a clue what you’re thinking right now? Only your spirit knows, and you can sit there and look and nod and not be hearing a word I’m saying. I don’t know, because no man knows the thoughts of another man except the man’s spirit within him. Now it says in the same way, no one knows the thoughts of God, except the Spirit of God. Now, guys, if you don’t keep reading, that’s a problem, because what that’s saying is no one knows what God’s thinking except His Spirit, and I’m saying I want to know what God’s thinking. So, how am I going to know what God’s thinking? Well, keep reading. We have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. Now, what is it saying there? We haven’t received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God. The Holy Spirit of God lives in us. That didn’t come from the world. I was not born again of the Spirit by Mom and Dad. You and I were created, or born, excuse me, in the image of Adam, not in the image of God. In the fifth chapter of Genesis, it tells us that when God created Adam and Eve, but when Adam and Eve had Seth, Seth was born in the image of Adam. We were not created in the image of God. You were born in the image of Adam. Adam and Eve were created in the image of God. They didn’t come from Mom and Dad. They didn’t have one. They were created out of the heart of God. We were born out of fallen Adam, when you and I are born again, we’re born again of the what? Of the Spirit, and therefore, if any man be in Christ now, he’s a new what creation. Who created your new birth? God, absolutely, who created your physical birth? Mom and Dad. So you got two births, Mom and Dad, and now you’re a new creation whereby God restored in us what we had lost in Adam, that being the Spirit of God living in us.

Bob George 13:45
And so again, if I want to know the thoughts of God, I cannot rely upon the physical aspect of man, because God is spirit, and you must worship Him in spirit and truth, and the natural man cannot understand spiritual things, it’s foolish to him, and the spiritual man understands all things if you receive from God. And so this is this is what we speak, not in words taught to us by human wisdom, but words taught by the Spirit and who’s your teacher? Who’s your real teacher? Your spiritual teacher is Christ Jesus. Now, why does God use teachers, pastor teachers, evangelists? Why does He use those? Well, he uses people like that in order to teach the word of God as to what the word of God says, and I can also teach you what the word of God has revealed to me, but until God reveals to you you are merely taught by me and not by Spirit. So who do you want to be taught by, man or the Spirit? Now, that does not mean that we neglect the assembling of ourselves together. It does not mean that we neglect the teaching ministry that God has given us, because they’re continual reminders of what God is there to reveal to you. But I just get back to the fact, guys, that until we’re willing to get into the Word of God on our own and to study the Word and let God’s Spirit teach you the meaning of the Word of God, you and I are not going to know the meaning of the Word of God. We’ll know what it says, but we don’t know what it means. That’s why we have Methodists, Baptists, Presbyterians, Episcopalians, Catholics, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, and every other group under the sun, people who have interpreted the word of God, leaning on their own understanding most of the time, because those who were doing it probably didn’t even have the Spirit of God living in them, leaning on their own understanding, not acknowledging Him in all their ways, not being having their paths directed by Him, but by their own understanding, depending upon their human intellect, depending upon their human education, depending upon their own line of reasoning, instead of depending on the Spirit of God to reveal the meaning of the word of God to you.

And so folks, he says this is what we speak, verse 13, go back to excuse me, what he says about not receiving the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God. How come so that we can understand what God has freely given us? Now, guys, what are the things that God has freely given us? What do we call that? What do we call God’s free, freely given us and free gift? We call it what? Grace. So if you are depending upon the Spirit of God, who is full of what? Truth and grace, what are you going to be grabbing a hold of? What are you going to be excited about? Truth and grace, did this say the law? Do you need the Spirit of God living in you to understand the law? How could that be true when the Holy Spirit of God hadn’t given when God gave the law? Laws are written there on stone, laws are written there with their dos and don’ts. The Bible says that the law is there to show you you’re a sinner, so that you’ll turn to Christ for grace. What does Titus say? It’s the law of God that teaches us to say no to unrighteousness, or it’s the grace of God that teaches us to say no to unrighteousness. Which is it? It’s the grace of God, and the grace of God teaches us to live holy, acceptable lives in this present generation. It says, while we wait for the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. It’s the grace of God. Why? Because Christ is full of truth and grace, and He’s going to be teaching you and me the grace of God, and He’s going to be doing so in spiritual words. The man without the Spirit, verse 14, does not accept the things that come from the spirit of God. They’re foolishness to him.

Folks, I’ve been on the air for over 20 years. Do you know that most of the stuff that we teach to people, not all the people, thank God, but a whole bunch of people, it’s foolishness. It’s foolishness to them. Why? Because they’re natural men, they can’t understand spiritual things. It’s foolish to them. Tell somebody you’re not under the law, but you’re to be led by the Spirit of God. That’s foolish. Like people over in Memphis said, you need tracks to run on. I said, I’m not a train, I don’t need tracks to run, I don’t have the Spirit of God living in me to guide me. And here they’re still wanting to depend upon laws written on a stone instead of Jesus written on your heart. And so they can’t understand spiritual things. The man without the spirit doesn’t accept the things that come from the spirit of God. They’re foolish to him, and he can’t understand them. Why? Because spiritual things have to be discerned spiritually. What does that mean? They have to be interpreted by the Spirit, you cannot interpret spiritual things with human means.

That’s why, in the final analysis, guys, and you’ve heard me give this illustration before, when I was in business, I was called back to a board meeting back in Pennsylvania of the manufacturer that I was in business with, and I found out after I went there why they call them board meetings – they’re the most boring thing you’ve ever been to in your life, but I was met at the airport by this black chauffeur who, got out of a car in his black uniform, his big black limo, and said mr. George opened the door, and I looked in. It wasn’t anybody there. I said, am I the only one going back to the to the to the plant? He said, yes sir. I said, would you mind if I rode up in front with you? No, sir. So I got up front, his name was Wilbur. We rode along for a little bit of one. I said, “Wilbury, he said, “Let me ask you a question. I said, “Have you ever made the discovery in your life of knowing Christ as your personal Lord and Savior? Man, his eyes lit up. He said, “You a Christian?” I said, “I sure am.” Oh, praise God. Well, we just praised Jesus all the way back to the plant, and I’ve never – I’ve never been around a man that had a deeper knowledge of the word of God, the meaning of the word of God. He was just phenomenal in our conversation. I was very, very taken with him, and so I went to the board meeting, and at the end of the board meeting. Why one of the executives said, “Well, Bob, I’ll drive you back the airport. And I said, “Oh, Jim, I said, ‘No bother, do that. You know you guys are tired. Don’t just let Wilbur take me back.’ So he said, ‘Well, okay.’ And I said, ‘Praise Jesus.’ And so, so we got back in the car and rolled back talking about Jesus all the way back to the airport. We were getting relatively close to the airport, and I said, Wilbur, I said, “You know, I’ve come to love you as a brother in Christ, and I’d like to do something for you.” And why I said this, I don’t know, but I said, “I’d like to, I’d like to send you a Bible.” Now, wouldn’t you assume that you’d think that he had one? You know, why would you? Why would you do something like that? I don’t know. It was, it was God, evidently, because his response to me was this. He said, well, you see, Mr. George, he said that wouldn’t do you much good, and I said it wouldn’t do you much good. He said, no, sir. He said, Wilbur, why? Because I can’t read. And I said, Wilbur, you can’t read? He said, No, sir. I said, Wilbur, you’ve got one of the best understandings of the word of God of anyone I’ve ever met. He said, I was a good listener, and God taught me something that day. I had known what this verse said before, but He taught me something.

Here’s an uneducated man, just a chauffeur, black man came from probably surroundings that weren’t like many of us would have, but here was a man who knew his Jesus, and here was a man with no education that knew his God and his Jesus, and I think about him continually. Not a week seems to go by that Wilbur doesn’t pop into my mind, because he taught me something that day that no eye has heard, nor eye has seen, or mind is conceived of those things that God has prepared for those who love Him, but it must be revealed by the Spirit. That man had nothing to depend upon except Jesus. It’s come to that where all you got to depend on is Jesus. That’s where you’re the most blessed. I’m convinced in my heart that the reason that I see so many people out of the African race who know Jesus joyfully know Jesus, and I think back in those days of slavery horrible thing, but to them they had no one to depend upon except Jesus. Nobody, and they got to know him. The slave owners, they were out playing church. The slaves were praising Jesus. When you come down to the point where you have nothing to rely on except Jesus, that’s the point of total blessing. One of the things that they did with the slaves back in those days never gave them shoes, and so from that, because if they escaped, well, you could know who they were, because they didn’t have shoes on. Remember the song, I got shoes, he’s got shoes, all God’s children got shoes, and when I get to heaven, I’m going to put on my shoes, and I’m going to walk all over God’s heaven. Heaven, I’m going to walk all over God’s heaven. Why? They knew something, they knew when this day occurred, when they were abs. And from the body present with the Lord, they were going into a new life, and folks, that is the kind of examples that I think the scriptures say to look to. I look back at those days, and they’re horrible days, what the white race did to the black people, but I also look and see what God did for the black people, and He blessed them beyond all means, not physically but spiritually, and that’s what I think we can be grateful for, guys, is the life that He gives us, spiritual life that He gives us that lets us know that when all else fails, Jesus is faithful.

Well, let’s pray together. Father, we want to thank you for the Lord Jesus Christ. Teach us to live in a relationship of love, our love for you that results in dependency upon you, that then results in obedience to you. It’s in that order. So many times we teach obedience at the exclusion of love and dependency, and it’s just legalistic obedience. Let that be a byproduct of love, that our motivation for everything we do is a motivation of love, love for one another, love for Christ Jesus, and Father, we pray these things in His name and for His sake. Amen.
