Lifted by Encouragement Part 2

~ Put off your former way of life, your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be renewed in the spirit of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24

When we are placed into the body of Christ Jesus, and He has placed His Spirit into us, we are to stop focusing on our old self. That was the way we thought in the past, before we came to know Jesus and before the Holy Spirit came to live in us, but now we are to operate in the New self, the New Creation in Christ Jesus, through the Spirit who lives in you. Stop with the idea of doing it “my way.” Stop with the thinking that “I am always right.” Stop with the attitude that of propping myself up in the world. Stop with the pride of showing off. Stop with the fleshly desires that are stroked by Satan and the demons of the world. Stop promoting known liars and deceivers that share false gospel messages of ongoing forgiveness by God, who encourage people of the lie to stream down the aisles to get more forgiveness, which is what most of them do today. For the True Gospel is at the very heart of EVERYTHING and is the foundation for LIFE. God wants us to share TRUTH, yet satan doesn’t want us to share TRUTH with people who are dead lost and simply allow the lies to go on and on. He doesn’t want people becoming born again of the Spirit of God with TRUTH. And therein is the battle, between TRUTH and lies.

And folks, demons are very real in the world in which we live. Even as children of God, we discount them as though they don’t even exist, yet we actually see them everyday in flesh. And people still think we are simply fighting against flesh and blood today. They are so into their sports, movies, news and politics, that strokes their fleshly desires, they place God on the back burner. For example of this politician or that politician, they are glued to their Tell-a-Visions, believing in the ongoing lies, as though there are good politicians and bad politicians. Get real. None of them are good, they are ALL EVIL to the core. If you haven’t learned that by now, it’s time for a reality check. This stuff of the world that you are looking at, through the lens of your favorite “programming channels” stirs up our flesh, and causes us to place our trust in Man and demons, instead of Jesus. Learn about satan’s favorite game of “Good Cop, Bad Cop” and how the Hegelian Dialectic works, and you will have a better understanding of how the world operates today. For many have forgotten the word of God, that our battle is NOT against flesh and blood, but the actual forces of evil, who ARE the rulers of this world. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12 Now to some of you, this may sound like harsh talk, but those are the actual words of God. Now you can choose to believe it or not, but that doesn’t negate the Truth of the Word of God. Truth is Truth whether a person believes it or not. And don’t forget, Satan is one, for a kingdom divided cannot stand. “And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.” Mark 3:24

So put off the old self, and the way the world thinks, and start operating in the New Self mode of allowing the Holy Spirit to teach you ALL Truth, if He does indeed live in you. Lean not on your own understanding of anything today. For everything has been corrupted beyond measure that we see before us and have learned previously of the world in which we live, and we have ALL been deceived by satan in this season of great deception. It’s time to wake up to TRUTH. It’s time to put on the New Self today.

Ephesians 4:17-32

17 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18 They are darkened in their understanding and alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardness of their hearts. 19 Having lost all sense of shame, they have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity, with a craving for more.

20 But this is not the way you came to know Christ. 21 Surely you heard of Him and were taught in Him—in keeping with the truth that is in Jesus— 22 to put off your former way of life, your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be renewed in the spirit of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

25 Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one another. 26 “Be angry, yet do not sin.” Do not let the sun set upon your anger, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold.

28 He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing good with his own hands, that he may have something to share with the one in need.

29 Let no unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building up the one in need and bringing grace to those who listen.

30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, outcry and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and tenderhearted to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4:17-32

What is it saying about our old flesh, our old unregenerated ignorant, darkened flesh? It’s saying that you were taught regard to that former way of life to put that off. You see, my friends, you had again the HEBREW full of self righteousness. Now, how does self righteousness spell itself out? It spells itself out by being unbelievably critical of everything and everybody and thinking that you are better than anyone else. I would never think of doing that, but they do. And so he’s saying here that you don’t live as the Gentiles do. It says that this mindset of the majority of the Gentile world, this mindset is darkened in their understanding, understanding of what? Well, first of all, your understanding of God. And folks, if you don’t have an understanding of God, everything about your understanding is going to be off. There’s no question about that. You can’t take religion out of the government. You can’t take religion out of schools, any more than you can take religion out of your heart. If you are saved and the government comes in and says, if you’re a believer, going to kill you. You just have to say, well, pull the trigger, because that’s who I am. God, you can’t separate me. You can’t sit down and say to me, Bob, you can go on the radio, but you can’t talk about Jesus. You’re crazy. It’s like saying you can’t breathe if you’re in Christ, Jesus and Christ, Jesus lives in you tell somebody you can’t talk about him. You say you’ve got to be kidding me. That’s my life. That’s who I am. I have no choice except to talk about it, because that’s who I am. You can’t separate religion from life, but to the Gentile world, they didn’t have that understanding of God. And so he says, they’re darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God, separated from the life of God. They haven’t plugged in to the life of God, it would be like an atheist or an agnostic today. They’re not plugged in. Their minds have been darkened in understanding they’re separated from the life of God and why? It says, because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Isn’t it interesting that the bill moyers think people are stupid who believe in God, when the God says, no other people are stupid. Are you a fool? An idiot says in his heart, there is no God. You ought to be a blithering idiot to look at this world and the complexities of it, and to see that every animal, everything has a seed designed for them. In the ocean, a fish designed for them. You don’t have these little, tiny birds running around trying to eat a whale. Everything’s got a place. Every bird has its own food, everything made for you and me. Look at the complexity of an eyeball. Just look at that alone and say there is no God. Look at how our bodies function. Or when you get older, they don’t function. It’s a miracle. You look around you, you see this nature, the beauty of this nature. You look at the splendor of the mountains, look at these pictures in Alaska, it boggles your mind how unbelievably beautiful it is, until you put people in it, and we’ve done a marvelous job of screwing up what God made. And so our hearts are darkened, and it tells us that, and it’s because of the ignorance that is in them, due to the hardening of their hearts. What do you mean the hardening of their hearts? You’re hardening your heart toward God. I don’t need God. I don’t need to seek God in my decision making, I do it on my own, looking for a mate. Don’t seek God. Just go with who turns you on. You’ll get turned on, all right, and turned off. We better seek God. You better seek the wisdom of God. Lord, God. Who do you want me to date? Now, why did I say date? Because if you can date somebody, you can marry somebody. And so if you’re not supposed to be unequally yoked in marriage, don’t be unequally yoked in dating, because you can end up getting married to the wrong person. And I want to tell you something, folks, there is nothing in the world that will mess up a person’s life anymore than being married to the wrong person. It’s one of the most important decisions a person will make is, who am I going to commit to spend my life with? Because whoever it is will affect your life, and you better be unbelievably careful. That’s why you’ve got to seek God in these kind of decisions, lost hardening of your heart. I don’t need God, I’m smart. I can figure it out myself. They’ve lost all sensitivity. They’ve been given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity with a continual lust for more. The only thing that matters is sensual. Only thing that matters is getting feeling good. The only thing that matters I don’t care when I’m looking for a girl just I’m looking for one who’s hot, you’re going to have to turn the heat up after about three months of marriage.

It’s all anybody think about hot. It’s what you hear all the time. Oh, she’s hot. You all know better than that, don’t you? You better look for a woman with some of these qualities to her, who has sensitivity, a woman who’s humble, or a man who’s gentle and patient, and a person capable of bearing with one another in love. Look for that qualities. Forget about who’s hot. They ain’t going to be hot long, believe me, that hot stops at marriage. It’s very hard to think hot when someone’s telling you to empty the garbage quickly. When you get married, you have to cooperate. It’s a commitment of life. It isn’t, it isn’t, it isn’t a hotbed. It’s a commitment of life where two people are going to together in unity, live a life together and serve one another in love together and build each other up, hopefully together instead of tearing each other down. It’s a unity. It’s two people getting together to form a life’s relationship. Well, it talks a little bit about marriage later on, but I got into it a little early, but that’s okay.

Or did you hear this?

I was listening to a sermon this morning about marriage. I hate those I hate those messages, because you always got someone sitting there going and guess who it is, your wife or your husband? Did you hear that? We never get the idea that those messages are for you, it’s not for your wife, it’s not for your husband, it’s for you. And in many instances, there is the presentation like I’ve got it all together now, guys, I’m going to give you a lecture on how to have this wonderful dynamic marriage, and you’re sitting there in the pew thinking to yourself, Brother, how long is this thing going to last? Because I’m not perfect, and I haven’t lived a perfect life, and I haven’t been a perfect husband, and I haven’t been a perfect wife, and I haven’t, and I haven’t, and I haven’t and I haven’t, and in the final analysis, God says I know you have it. That’s why I had to come to save you. But I want to ask you another question, have you been trying to be humble and gentle and loving and trying to keep unity? Well, yeah, I do that occasionally, but I blow it. I know you blow it, but the issue is, have you tried or have you been a person that someone could say has not been mean? Have I been a person that has been kind? Have I been a person that has been easy, kind of to live with? Well, yeah, but didn’t do what I want you to do. Well, you see, no man is going to say to his wife, you do everything that I want you to do, or vice versa. It just isn’t going to happen that way. We’re man and woman. That’s why it’s talking about here, that there’s two opposites, just like with the HEBREW and the Gentile. It’s a picture, really, of man and woman, two opposites, trying to get together in life. A two total opposite. You think a woman to me, they think different. They act different. They reason different, if at all. And I could go on and on, and if I was the opposite, I could say the very same thing. Amy could say the same thing about me. Man. Men, they think different. They act different. Their whole thing is different. They’re just a different breed of cat. And we are. The things that we think are so funny. Women don’t think are quite so funny. We think they’re funny, but they don’t, and I won’t go into the details of that. We’re different. But he said you could have unity in the midst of that difference, if you get rid of this idea that you are the one who is always wrong and I am always the perfect person. Ain’t going to work, going to tear each other down that way. Going to tear each other down? Well, it says here that we’re to put off that old self which is being corrupted by its evil desires. What are the evil desires that are there? We’ve just listed some of them, and some of the evil desires is that desire that you always have to be, right? You know, like a guy said, I married, my wife’s name was, right. I didn’t know her first name was always it says, if you’re in Christ, if you are in Christ, you have been made new. And he wants us to be made new in the attitude of our minds. He wants you that if you’re in Christ, to have a different attitude toward life than you did before you were in Christ.

You see to the self righteous, I don’t have anything to change. I was already good, and now I’m in Christ, so I guess maybe he makes me a little better. I’m not sure. I’ll think about that for a while. And then to the Gentile, he’s sitting over there, and he’s saying whoopee for this grace. Now I don’t have to change my way of thinking at all. Just continue doing everything I was doing before as a Gentile, but I’m in Jesus. But I’m going to keep on drinking and accusing and chewing and running around with those doing and I’m going to do all this kind of stuff just like I did before. And he’s saying, No, in both of you, you’re going to have to put off your self righteousness and your religion in order to take on something new. And you’re going to have to take off your heathenism and to put on something new. That we need to put off the old self, the former way of life, the former way of thinking, and to put off the old self, which is being corrupted by the deceitful desires. What is corrupting us guys? Deceitful desires. How many of you ever had deceitful desires? All of us. That’s why it has to write this. If we didn’t have deceitful desires, we wouldn’t have to write this. You know, telling a man don’t look at a good looking woman is like telling a dog quit barking, or to tell a woman to quit shopping.

We really are just ridiculous in thinking that I’m going to make a dog to quit barking. When that’s what dogs do, they bark. Now you can put that under control, but I want to tell you something, you are not going to put that out of control to your husband. God will, but not you, any more than husband, you’re going to put the shopping under control. I’ll guarantee you, the only way you’re going to do that is take the credit card away. God, can. God can control that, but you can’t. And so we’re talking about here of changing an attitude, of allowing God to change an attitude of a mind. Now again, guys, I’m not encouraging all men to be out looking at women or any more than I’m encouraging all you ladies to go to the store. I’m just saying that it is not unnatural. That’s the problem. It is natural. It is natural. That’s the problem. Can it be brought under control? Yeah, under control of the Spirit of God. And when you’re when, when it’s not under control, it just means you’re not allowing God to control your thinking. You still got the thinking of the Gentiles.

So he wants us to be made new in the attitude of our minds and be put on this new self created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. And you notice there guys, it says to be made, created to be like God in true righteousness, not false righteousness, not self righteousness, true righteousness, not man made holiness. Not you out trying to act holy, because all you do is act obnoxious, but to recognize that you have been made holy by God, and you have been made righteous by God, and you and I are clothed in the righteousness of Christ Jesus. It’s all a part of your identity. Some of you have got some really nice looking clothes on today, but God’s got some better looking clothes for you. It’s called the clothed and the righteousness of God. So when God looks at you, he sees the righteousness of his Son. And that’s what he says he wants us to be clothed with.

Therefore each of you, you see, guys, he isn’t sitting here beating you to death. He didn’t there, putting you on guilt trips. He’s saying, therefore you must put off falsehood and do what? Speak truthfully to his neighbor. Why? Because we’re members of one body. He doesn’t just say, Don’t do that. Well, why? Because I told you to, you know, we do that a lot of times as parents, because I told you to, he tells you what not to do. He then tells you what to do, and then he tells you why to do it. Why? In other words, put off falsehood. Well, how come? Well, so that you can speak truthfully to your neighbor. Why? Because we’re all part of one body. One part of one body. You wouldn’t want parts of your body to lie to you. I said my nose was running and and my body said it isn’t running. You’re going to be a mess. You don’t want your body lying to each other. Body says Your nose is running. You pick up a handkerchief, you go blow your nose, serving one another, serving your body in love. So he’s saying, Put off falsehood. Speak truthfully to your neighbor. Why? We’re all members of one body.

In your anger, don’t sin. But why would he have to say that if we didn’t get angry? How many of you ever get angry? How many get angry at your mate if you have one, or if you don’t get angry at you don’t have one? Or did you do either way? It says, In your anger, don’t sin. You say, Well, what in the world does that mean? It says, Don’t let the sun go down while you’re still angry, and don’t give the devil a foothold. Here, it’s telling you what to do. It’s saying in your anger, don’t sin. In other words, straighten it out before you go to sleep. Why? Because if you don’t, Satan’s going to get a foothold, right? A little How many of you, I know it’s embarrassing, but that’s all right, we’re among family. How many of you have gotten mad at your mate and you’re mad and you you’re a Christian, and you know that that Bible says straighten this thing out before you go to bed, before you go to sleep, and you say, No way and just go to sleep. How many have ever done that? Is that all? The rest are you precious people? My goodness, I think I’m going to finish this message out talking to such wonderful, wonderful group. Let me go over that again. How many of you have ever gotten mad at your mate at night, or whenever it is and you know full well the Bible says to straighten this thing out before you go to sleep and you go to bed without straightening it out? I see your hands. Well, that’s better. I don’t mean it’s better, but it just shows that you’re human. But this is true, and it says, Why? Because if you don’t, Satan is going to get a foothold. You know what? You wake up as mad as you went to bed. You’ve settled nothing except you just had a bad night’s sleep. And so all of these things that are told to us, my friends, are told, for our benefit, they’re for us, they’re for our well being, for you and me. So it says, Don’t give the devil a foothold.

He who has been stealing. I won’t ask on that one. Must steal no longer. It’s just saying. Cut it out. Why would you need to go steal if you really believe that God will provide all your needs according to His riches and glory? Can you think of any reason why you’d need to go steal if you believe that? Yeah, you’ll need to. So he says, My God, will supply your needs according to His riches and glory. I think he’s got a lot of riches, don’t you? So what do you need to steal for? So it says, cut it out. And it says, go to work, work and do something useful with your own hands. Why? So that he may have something to share with those in need for. So it says in the scripture, if you have no other motivation for working, it’s so that you will have enough money to share with those in need. So motivation, I’m going to work so that I can share. Most of us say I’m going to work so I can get well, you got to get for you can share, obviously, but the motivation is so that I have enough money to take care of myself and to reach out and to help others who are in need, it’s a blessing to do so. So it’s just all these things are for our own benefit.

Don’t let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths. What’s unwholesome talk? Vile talk. Do you suppose, as it lists down here, that slander would be a part of that vile talk? I think so. It says, Don’t let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs. Do we realize folks that all of us have needs. We have needs for encouragement, don’t we? I find in my life that the older that I get, the more I have a need of encouragement. When I was younger and full of vinegar, I really didn’t need that much encouragement. I was encouraging myself. You get older, you find out that people, really, as a rule, don’t think so much of what you’re saying anymore. It’s basically the youth they kind of look at you as an old geezer whose life is gone. You’re getting older, your body doesn’t function the way that it used to. In many cases, your mind doesn’t function the way it used to or should, and you just find a lot of things lacking the older you get. It’s not you don’t design it that way. It’s just the way it is, isn’t it? Fred. It. You have heart problems sometimes, and you realize that dog gone it. I don’t like these heart problems you get sometimes where your heart doesn’t beat the way it should, and you feel kind of weak and down and it just dog gone it. What’s wrong with this stupid body that your heart isn’t working way ought to. So there’s a lot of things when you get older where it’s easier to get down. And there’s where encouragement comes in, comes in from others.

You know, I have people come up to me and say, Bob, you look as good as you did 20 years ago. And I say, the only thing I can say to that is, I must have looked like the devil 20 years ago. I don’t need that kind of encouragement. That’s just plain lying. But when we do get older, we do need encouragement. We need always need encouragement. You need young people need encouragement. Teenagers need unbelievable amount of encouraging instead of the beating down that many times we do. They need to be encouraged, because, again, they don’t have their minds have not been formed like it is when you’re we’re older, we know that, and so they make mistakes, and that’s what adults are for. Adults are there to correct this, the mistaken thinking many times of younger people to help them through and you’re going to have to have to do that through being an encourager, to encourage people build them up. So it says to build people up according to their needs. Building people up, that’s a big one. Build people up, make them feel good about themselves. So that, how come? So that it may benefit those who listen. What do you mean benefit those who listen? Don’t let unwholesome talk come into your mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up in accordance to their needs, that they may benefit those who listen. Well, it benefits everybody when you’re building somebody up.
