Follow The Message – Part 3 – 9-10-25

~ “Brothers, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us not to go beyond what is written. Then you will not take pride in one man over another. For who makes you so superior? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?” 1 Corinthians 4:6-7

~ If you haven’t figured it out by now, we are NOT to be Man followers. Yet that is exactly what is going on today. People will say, such and such has said this or that, and even on their social media platforms they will quote some famous theologian as though the thing they said is more important than the word of God. We have used the teaching of Man instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to teach us ALL truth. Why is this important today? Because Man can and does teach lies without even realizing it. Most are so caught up in the world events, that they think is more important than even listening to what the Holy Spirit has to say to them. And because they do not pay attention to the details in the word of God, they dismiss things left and right as though what a Man or demon says is more important than God’s Word.

We have strayed so far away from truth today, that we call the things of the world Truth, and God’s Word becomes second fiddle to everything else. And Satan makes sure to keep our focus on the world events left and right. People believe just about everything they see on the Tell-a-Vision and have no clue about how satan uses that to brainwash us into believing more lies. People have no clue about how things are staged. Try turning the Tell-a-Vision off for a week and see how much more at peace you will be. Read God’s word instead, and you begin to understand the mind of Jesus. Allow the Holy Spirit to instruct you on EVERYTHING, and question everything that you see in the world. Because none of it is as it seems. Satan has deceived ALL the nations into believing lies, upon lies, upon lies. The bigger the lie, the more people believe it. And when Truth is shared, most have a difficult time accepting it because they are so indoctrinated in the lies, and don’t want to have any part of TRUTH.

And the apostles had to deal with this also, in the first century. For those that were taught by the apostles, the apostles were of no value to them anymore. These people became wise in their own eyes, and threw the apostles away so to speak. At the end, the apostles were described by Paul, as though they were at the end of the procession, like prisoners appointed for death. They had become a spectacle to the whole world, to angels as well as to men. And yet everything we are taught in the New testament is because of these Men of God, for they did as the Lord had instructed them to do. Yet hardly anyone applies Faith filled reasoning to the equation. The message goes in one ear and out the other. Hardly anyone ponders what was going on back then. Because current events take so much more importance than what the Men of God wrote in the first century. How sad, very sad.

1 Corinthians 4:6-13
6 Brothers, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us not to go beyond what is written. Then you will not take pride in one man over another. 7 For who makes you so superior? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?

8 Already you have all you want. Already you have become rich. Without us, you have become kings. How I wish you really were kings, so that we might be kings with you! 9 For it seems to me that God has displayed us apostles at the end of the procession, like prisoners appointed for death. We have become a spectacle to the whole world, to angels as well as to men.

10 We are fools for Christ, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are honored, but we are dishonored. 11 To this very hour we are hungry and thirsty, we are poorly clothed, we are brutally treated, we are homeless. 12 We work hard with our own hands. When we are vilified, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; 13 when we are slandered, we answer gently. Up to this moment we have become the scum of the earth, the refuse of the world.

Does TRUTH matter? You bet it does. ALL TRUTH matters.

…..

And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone.

~ “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12

~ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one believing in Me, even if he should die, he will live. And everyone living and believing in Me shall never die, to the age. Do you believe this?” John 11:25,26

Pray to God:

Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ “Already you have all you want already you’ve become rich, you have become kings and that without us, in other words, you can become a king, but not you don’t need us for that. You can become president of this company. We don’t need Jesus for that. I wish that you really had become kings, so that we could be kings along with you. Look at this, For it seems to me that God has put us apostles on display at the end of the procession, like men condemned to die in the arena. We’ve been made a spectacle to the whole universe, to angels as well as to men. We’re fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ, we are weak. But you’re strong, you’re honored, but we’re Dishonored to this very hour. We go hungry and thirsty, we’re in rags, we’re brutally treated, we are homeless. Doesn’t this sound like the prosperity gospel to you? These are the people that God entrusted with a message of Christ. They’re living in rags. We go along and say, God wants you rich. Well He sure messed up on these what happened to these guys? Bunch of nonsense being taught in the name of Jesus out there. To this very day, we go hungry and thirsty in rags, brutally treated. We’re homeless. We work hard with our own hands. When we’re cursed, we bless. When we’re persecuted, we endure it when we’re slandered. We answer kindly. And up to this moment, we have become the scum of the earth, the refuse of the world.

Guys, how many of you have read that passage, and how many of you have thought through it? It was to me reading this like for the first time, we think of the apostles, and the Apostle Paul of going around and, you know, going and visiting people and having a nice meal and and come on in, take a bath, Paul and take. He says, no, no, these are the people that Christ entrusted. And why we are here today is because of these people. And how did he say, the world responded to them? Isn’t it sad guys? You think the way they taught Christ, and this is the way they taught the apostles, but we we’re supposed to be prosperous?” ~ Bob George

And so that’s your conscience speaking to you. Forget about leaning on your conscience. You now have someone called the Holy Spirit of God living in you that is greater than your conscience. The Holy Spirit of God will never mislead you. Holy Spirit of God would have said to you, where did the Scripture does it say, don’t eat meat on Friday? He told you that a long time ago. But if you don’t know what the Bible says, then the best you got to listen to is who a man that you’ve idolized, a man that makes himself over and above you. That’s why we have this laity. And then you’ve got the ministry. Right? That’s why, in some denominations, the Bible was never able to be read. We understand. So if you want to know what it says, Don’t read it. As a matter of fact, in some cases, they were put to death. If they caught you read it, you got to come to me. Now does that sound like Paul? No. Where’d it come from? Man, not understanding what the Scripture says, not knowing what the Scripture says, and just falling for the lie, the lie that came directly out of the mouth of Satan.

He said, I don’t judge myself. My conscience is clear, but that doesn’t make me innocent. It’s the Lord who judges me. Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time. Wait till the Lord comes. Folks, there again. How many things in our life. Do we judge before we have the facts? You see, that is not of God. We draw conclusions before we have the facts at hand. That’s why you have court trials is to get out the facts. Now, of course, in this day and age, why you’re getting out as many lies as you can dream of. So hopefully you’re going to have to discern between who’s lying and who isn’t. But the issue is that you’re trying to get to facts before you make a decision, because we have this tendency to immediately judge something. We see somebody on the street, he didn’t dress the way that we think they ought to be, and we judge it. We judge it, and we judge it before we know the truth. Folks, caution yourself against that. Caution yourself against it. Don’t judge something and come to a conclusion about something until you got the facts, then you can judge it, but not before. And there’s where the Bible is telling us that don’t judge anything before the appointed time. And in the final analysis, who’s going to be our final judge? The Lord. He’ll bring to light what is hidden in darkness, and will expose the motives of man’s hearts. And guys there’s the key to this whole thing, motive. What is your motive? You see, if I am a child of the living God, and again, that is my true identity. I’m a child of the living God. So will you say? Bob George, who are you? That’s who I am, that as that is who I am, and that’s who I will be throughout eternity. That’s my eternal identity, a child of God. I’m not a Presbyterian, not a Baptist. I could be a child of God who parks at the baptist church on Sunday, the Presbyterian Church, or any of those kind of things. But that’s not who I am. It’s not who I am. I’m a child of God.

And so he’s saying here, what is your motive? What’s your motive for life? Why do you talk to somebody about Jesus? Well, there’s a lot of motives for that. There’s a motive of being able to go back and tell all your buddies about it. There’s a motive that someone’s watching me, I’ve been through that. There’s a motive that the organization that you’re in requires it. So what’s your motive? Got to do it. In my experience, you had to fill out a report every week or month. I don’t remember which one it was as to who you were going to share Christ with, and who did you share Christ with, and did they come to Christ? I am so rebellious about those kind of things. I mean, I’ve just got to admit to you, I’m a rebel when it comes to those things. I used to fill out my report. Who you going to share Christ with? Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Mickey Mantle. Ronald Reagan, why? I knew no one was going to read the report anyway, and no one ever came back to me and said, Bob, how’d you do with Mickey Mouse? No one ever read them. It was just coming from the organizational structure of someone smarter than anyone else, who made us fill out reports, because that was the business way of doing things. You see, you’ve just, you’ve just taken the Holy Spirit and said adios to the Holy Spirit on that kind of stuff. If I’m going to get up and say, my plan today is to go share Christ with him and lead him to Christ, because he’s a senior, a dirty, lousy one too. You just let the Holy Spirit out of it.

Folks, you can plan function, but you cannot plan results. I don’t know the next minute what I’m going to do. I can have a desire. I can plan to say, well tomorrow, if the Lord is willing, and if I’m here tomorrow, I’m going to do this. Tuesday, if the Lord is willing, we’re supposed to have lunch with one of our radio owners. Wednesday, if the Lord’s willing, we’re going to have a Bible study. Every day next week. Going to do a radio program. But I want to tell you something. I can plan function, but I can’t, I can’t plan results. Well, what’s the result of your meeting with the radio? Well, the this, this, and then, sorry, that’s God’s business. What’s the result of you’re doing a radio Minister, I’m going to lead people to Jesus. No, you’re not. God will lead you to Jesus. Let you lead someone to Lord, if he wants you to lead someone to Lord. That’s all God’s business. So we get so egotistical, we think I can plan everything. No, you can’t. Can’t plan anything. Results are in the hands of God. I can’t plan results. I can plan some function if the Lord’s willing. Amy and I, when we kiss each other good night, say, See you tomorrow, if the Lord’s willing, if the Lord’s willing See you tomorrow. May not be not wake up. And so it’s an attitude and a motive of our hearts. What is your motive?

What is your motive for coming to church? You know, I think sometimes with people, and I see this in and out attitude that well, if I don’t, look if you want to come to church to Sunday, get to bed on Saturday night, because it’s too darn late to be staying up till three or four o’clock in the morning and expect to get to church, I wouldn’t even be here. So if that’s your motive, if that’s your if that is what your priority is, then you’re going to plan for the priority. Just say What’s your motive? Your motive is it because I need to be among other Christians, that being in the fellowship of other believers is a need in my life? Christ says, Don’t forsake the assembling of ourselves together. Why? And he compares it to logs. You put a single log on the fire, it’ll go out. You put two to three on they’ll feed on each other. You say, Well, I didn’t particularly get anything among people. Well, then you didn’t stay to visit with anybody. This place. It’s hard to get you out of here on Sunday morning. And that’s good. That’s good that people hang around and interact with each other and talk with each other. That’s where you learn what’s going on with people. And to come in the early church, it said they met daily for the apostles teaching, for fellowship and prayer. That should be your motive. I want to go hear the apostles teaching. I want to fellowship with other believers. I want to pray with other believers. That’s my motivation. Why? I’m a child of God. Now, if you’re a darn drug addict, why then I want to go associate with drug addicts. I want to find some friends who like to get bombed like an idiot.

Guys, think about this. Can you think of anything dumber you talk about Dumb Dumber than wanting to put substance in your body to make you goofy. Why would you want to do that? You’re goofy enough without it. There isn’t anything dumber than that people, than wanting to mess up my mind. And yet this world is full of that, of the altering of our minds. Guys, that mind that you have is the most precious thing God’s ever given you. It’s your mind. It’s what you think with it controls every single thing you and I do. And why would we even think about wanting to mess it up? I don’t want my mind altered. I want my mind renewed. It does need renewed, but it certainly doesn’t need to be more stupid, stupid enough on its own. But look how man migrates to that, pot party going on. Oh, let’s go. Church is going on. Oh, I got to go to sleep. Folks, get your priorities where they belong. If you’re a child of the living God, you belong in an assembly someplace, even if it your home, studying with other people. But you need fellowship of believers. That’s a need. Don’t ignore it.

So he’s talking about here that I don’t care how I’m judged. Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time. Wait for the Lord, till he comes, he’ll bring to light what’s hidden in darkness, expose the motives of a man’s heart. You need, and I need to continually be checking what’s your what’s my motive? Why do I stay in the ministry? What’s my motive? Only I know, and God knows, but it had better be pure if it’s going to work.

Now brothers, Paul says, Here, I have applied these things to myself and to Apollos. There evidently was a real conflict, or a disturbance between Paul and Apollos, I don’t mean with each other. It just, I think Paul or Apollos was really eloquent and probably brilliant, and I think that he probably did use brilliant words and some lofty ideas along the way. And I think Paul just as smart and brilliant as he was, was just, I didn’t use those words, and I think there was a conflict in presentation, probably. Well, I like this smooth teacher, well, I kind of like this crude one.

But there was a conflict someplace. So he said, I’m applying these principles that I’m talking about here to myself and to Apollo’s for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying, Do not go beyond what is written. Folks, do you see that passage? Do not go beyond what is written. What is, what do you mean what is written? What do you think he means with that? What is written? Anybody? The Scripture. Don’t go beyond the Scripture. Well, a person say, well, I’ll go beyond the Scripture. I teach that you’re saved by baptism. I don’t go beyond the Scripture. I teach you have to be a Mormon to be saved. You see, folks, when you’re talking about don’t go beyond what is written. First of all, it’s saying no more writings. That’s one thing. When the book is closed, the book’s closed. There is no such thing as a Book of Mormon. There isn’t such thing as tradition superseding truth. There is no such thing. Don’t go beyond that. You go beyond the teaching. There is that where you have to say, there’s denominations where the entire thrust, there isn’t anything in the Bible about it, nothing about in the Bible about it all. It’s all tradition. But that’s what I worship, tradition. Well, you’re you’re lost, worshiping tradition, because tradition isn’t going to save you. Paul said, truth will set you free, not error. So he says, don’t go beyond what is written. In other words, just because some man says it, do not believe it. Guys, do you understand the truth of that? You know, I could be sitting here telling you, look, I said it so, brother, believe it. And there would be some people say, okay, dumb, but they’d say that. Do not go beyond what is written in this scripture.

Then you’ll not take pride in one man over against another. What is Paul saying to us? I don’t want you to be prideful about who you’re listening to. I don’t want you to be talking about well, Swindol says, or Bob George says, or Charles Stanley says, or this or this says, It doesn’t matter what we say. The issue is, what does the Scripture say? Now, if we’re quoting scripture, then why quote me? Quote the Scripture. Said, If you’ll realize that you won’t take pride in one man over against another. Again, you’re not there to draw attention to the man. You’re there to draw attention to the message guys. Who makes you different from anyone else, for who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you didn’t receive. Do any of you have any information about Jesus that you didn’t receive from some body or some place? No, I didn’t grow up knowing what I know about Jesus. I received it. Well, where do you get it? Well, I can get it from Man, or I can get it from this book called the Bible, and I can get it from fellowshipping with other believers. I can get the fact of who I am as a child of the living God, and because this is where I belong. If I’m a drug addict, I belong with the drugs, drug addicts. And there isn’t anything more disturbing than being a double minded man, where you’re one person over here and then another person over here. Make up your mind which one you’re going to get into. If you want to be a drug addict, go be one, and I’ll see you in the grave or in jail, one of the two, jail or the grave. If that’s where you want to be, go do it. At least be good at it. But quit trying to be live on both sides of the street at the same time. You are a child of the living God. Live like one. Live like one. I don’t belong in a bars and you don’t either, I don’t believe I don’t belong on an alley taking drugs, and you don’t either. A lot of things in our life that we do not belong at. We sometimes have to learn that the hard way. As long as we learn it, that’s what God’s interested in. Have you learned it? You’re living a life inconsistent with who you are. It’s not a good place to be.

Already you have all you want already you’ve become rich, you have become kings and that without us, in other words, you can become a king, but not you don’t need us for that.

You think the way they taught Christ, and this is the way they taught the apostles, but we we’re supposed to be prosperous?

I personally, until reading this, never realized what the apostles had to go through in order to get this message out. And I think, look how easy we have it. We have a nice building to come to, have radio equipment, have salaries, we can eat. Some of us look like we’ve indulged that more than others. That wasn’t the apostles. If we were called to live like this in order to get the gospel out, do you think anyone would question our motives? I don’t think so. But this was the lifestyle of the people who brought you and me this gospel. What was their reward? Absent from the body, present with the Lord. They looked at what we have down here as nothing. It’s all temporary, because anything you and I have down here is going to stay down here. There’s no U-haul on the back of a hearse. You’re not going to take it with you. And they knew that, and because they knew that, they were willing to live under any condition, good or bad, didn’t make any difference. Paul said, I’ve learned to live in jail. Learned to live everything. We think of Paul being in jail, we don’t think of this. This is their lifestyle, guys. And yet they tenaciously kept getting up and talking about the wonder of Jesus. Can you imagine the listeners saying, If Jesus is so wonderful, why are you living like this? Wouldn’t that be the most natural thing to say? How come you’re living like this? If your Jesus is so wonderful, and they with joy on their face, would say, No, Jesus is wonderful because he gives me peace. You’re trying to give me money. He gives me peace. He gives me patience, he gives me kindness, he gives me things that you world can never give me, and was content with that, are you? Am I? Let’s pray together.

Father, you’re teaching here, in a word, is to be respectful of people who have brought to you and to me the good news. You thank God for them. Paul said you only have one Father in the Gospel. Praise the Lord for that. Don’t ever get to the point where we try to present ourselves as full of wisdom instead of where we learned what we know, because ultimately it all came from you. Anything we teach that is worthwhile is what we learned by the Holy Spirit of God, revealing it to us. We don’t have anything that we didn’t receive. So what do we have to boast about? Father keep us humble, keep us living in reality, and allow us to have the tenacity and the courage and the boldness to stand up in front of our schoolmates, our neighbors, our workplace and to never hesitate to declare, I am a child of the living God. I may not act like it all the time. That’s who I am, and I’m going to live for Christ. I’m tired of double mindedness. I’m tired of talking out of one side of my mouth about Jesus and the other side of my mouth about the world. I’m tired of bringing glory to the things of the world and ignoring the things of God, and I’m ready today to say, Lord Jesus, I’m going to follow you. I’m tired of following the world. It doesn’t do anything but bring me misery. And today, I’m going to follow you. I’m going to be led by you, and I’m going to be your student, and you’re going to be my teacher. Father we’re going to give you praise for how you take care of us in such a loving way, and give us wisdom to live in this world that is full of error. It’s full of evil, and yet we can be lights in the midst of it, and we’re going to thank you for that in the name of Christ, Jesus, our Lord, and in his name that we pray amen.
