We Walk in The New Covenant Today, Not The Old

~ “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” ^{2 Timothy 3:16}

~ It is so important for us to understand the New Covenant that we live under today. For there are those out there that are still trying to live under the Old Covenant, as though that is in affect today. While all scripture (old and new) is given by inspiration of God, yet it is extremely important that we understand the context of all of God’s word. For example, understanding that for a person trying to live under the 10 Commandments, God is looking at the heart. No one ever lived a perfect life (other than Jesus), never breaking the 10 commandments. And Jesus gave examples of how God looks at the heart, and how everyone breaks the 10 commandments. This is why we need Jesus for our righteousness.

~ “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.” ^{Matthew 5:21-22}

~ “What you have is the Old Covenant is no longer in effect, it’s been replaced by the new covenant that was ushered in with Christ Jesus, that does not mean that the word of God cannot be profitable for teaching and that type of thing and the old, but it is not relevant to the way in which you live your life today, there isn’t a thing in the Old Testament that deals with Jesus obviously, living his life in and through us. You certainly have information in the Old Testament as an example in Genesis as to how man came into existence. You have the history of the people of God in the in the early formation of mankind. You certainly have a lot of stories that were told. I believe the the Old Testament is really a testament of man’s failure and God’s faithfulness through the entire historical part of the of that testament. But certainly there are things that you can read in Psalms and Proverbs, that wisdom is there, sure. But in the final analysis, we’re told our way that God has become our wisdom. And I think about that sometimes it’s because of him that we are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us our wisdom, and our, our everything, in essence, so you can rely upon the wisdom of Solomon, but Jesus has become our wisdom. And so it’s not the case that it’s not relevant. It was certainly relevant in regard to the history of the formation of, of what we know today as Christianity, it came from all of that the protection of the bloodline of the Messiah down through the ages was vitally important. But the way we live our life is in the New Covenant that we live in today. It’s a covenant of grace.” ~ Bob George
