Call-In Classic Christianity Radio – Bob George P1173 (10-15-26)

No Condemnation in Christ: Un-Scrambling Fatherly Discipline vs. the “Whipping God” Overlay

📖 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” — Romans 8:1

📖 “My son, do not reject the discipline of the LORD or loathe His reproof; for the LORD disciplines those He loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.” — Proverbs 3:11–12

📖 “And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons: ‘My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, or lose heart when He rebukes you. For the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and He chastens every son He receives.’ Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father?” — Hebrews 12:5–7

1. Absolute Freedom from Condemnation (Romans 8:1)

One of the most liberating truths of the New Covenant is the absolute legal declaration of Romans 8:1: “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

For centuries, religious traditions and post-reset translation overlays have kept believers trapped in constant fear—teaching that God is an angry, volatile Judge keeping an active record of wrongs, waiting to condemn or strike down His children whenever they stumble. But covenant jurisprudence reveals a completely different reality:

  • The Ledger is Closed: At the cross of Calvary, King Jesus acted as our true Goel (Kinsman-Redeemer), executing a complete, universal propitiation (hilasmos). He paid the global sin-debt in full, liquidating the courtroom ledger (katallage) once and for all.
  • Exemption from Judicial Trial (Krisis): Because your sins were already judged, sentenced, and removed at Calvary, the sealed child of God possesses absolute courtroom exemption from condemnation.
  • The Bema Seat vs. Criminal Trial: When a born-again believer eventually stands before the Bema Seat of Christ, it is never a criminal trial to determine salvation or eternal security. It is a strict, loving evaluation of horizontal stewardship and earthly service. The believer’s sins are gone—only their works are tested by refining fire (1 Corinthians 3:14–15).

2. The Old Testament Anchor: Proverbs 3:11–12

To fully understand what God is doing when He corrects us, we must look to the foundational Old Testament passage that Hebrews 12 directly quotes: Proverbs 3:11–12.

When we examine the original Hebrew root words, the false image of an abusive deity completely dissolves:

  • Instruction & Child-Training (Musar — מוּסָר):
In Proverbs 3:11, the word translated as “discipline” is musar. In Hebrew, musar does not mean physical abuse or punitive beating; it means moral instruction, educational training, guidance, and fatherly correction toward wisdom. When Jewish scholars translated the Tanakh into Koine Greek (the Septuagint), they translated musar directly as paideia—the ancient term for raising and educating a child to inherit the family estate.
  • Socratic Reasoning & Demonstration (Yakach — יָכַח):
In Proverbs 3:12, the phrase “the LORD disciplines [yokhi’ach]” comes from the root yakach. This verb means to reason together, convince, demonstrate, or correct logically. It is the exact same root used in Isaiah 1:18 (“Come now, let us reason together, saith the LORD”). God’s reproof is Socratic reasoning and ear-training, exposing the limitations of independent fleshly pride (sarx).
  • The Relationship of Delight:
Proverbs 3:12 explicitly declares: “…as a father the son in WHOM HE DELIGHTS.” A judge in a courtroom inflicts legal punishment on a convicted criminal, but a loving Father administers educational instruction (musar / paideia) to an heir in whom He delights!

3. Deconstructing the Translation Overlay: “Scourging” vs. Child-Training (Hebrews 12:5–11)

If there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, how do we understand passages like Hebrews 12:6, which traditionally rendered the Greek text with terrifying English words like “scourgeth”?

Post-reset English translation overlays have painted a distorted picture of God—making Him out to be a sadistic tyrant who physically whips, beats, or tortures His own children with disease, tragedy, and destruction. This pagan projection destroys the intimate relationship between the Father and His sons.

When we examine the original Koine Greek vocabulary, this cruel overlay instantly collapses:

A. Child-Training (Paideia / Paideuō)

In Hebrews 12:5–11, the root word translated as “discipline” or “chasten” is paideia (noun) and paideuō (verb).

  • Derived directly from pais (a young child), paideia literally means child-training, education, guidance, and fatherly instruction for maturity.
  • It is the exact term used in ancient Greek society for raising a child from infancy into a fully equipped, disciplined, and educated adult heir.
  • God is not inflicting punitive damage; He is conducting fatherly Socratic instruction.

B. The Deconstruction of “Scourgeth” (Mastigoō)

In Hebrews 12:6, translators rendered the Greek verb mastigoō as “scourgeth”—evoking images of a Roman soldier whipping a prisoner with a whip.

  • While mastigoō literally referred to a whip in civil or penal settings, in ancient literature and Greek rhetoric it was frequently used figuratively to describe sharp verbal correction, stern Socratic rebuke, or the stinging correction that grinds human pride to powder.
  • A loving heavenly Father does not inflict physical harm or destruction on His children. The “stinging” of Fatherly discipline is the sharp, corrective light of TRUTH exposing independent fleshly pride (sarx), tearing down self-reliance, and bringing us back into alignment with His Spirit!

4. Child-Training for the Immortal Faculty Under the Firmament

Why does our heavenly Father subject His sealed children to this rigorous, Socratic discipline under the Firmament?

It is not because He is angry, and it is certainly not to punish us for sins that were already paid for at Calvary. He is actively training His genuine sons for their eternal vocation!

  • Proof of True Sonship: As Hebrews 12:8 declares, if you are without discipline, you are illegitimate children and not true sons. The presence of Fatherly correction in your life is the direct proof of your divine adoption!
  • The Socratic School of Hard Knocks: When we let our independent self-will take over, our Father allows us to run headfirst into the wall of our own fleshly limitations until our pride is dismantled. He uses the friction of life under the Firmament to train our spiritual ears to distinguish between the noisy frequency of the flesh and the clean, vertical frequency of the Spirit of Truth.

Summary: A Loving Father, Not a Sadistic Tyrant

  1. No Condemnation: In Christ Jesus, your legal standing is permanently secure. Sins were paid for and removed at the cross of Calvary.
  2. Proverbs 3 Anchor: God’s reproof is fatherly instruction (musar) and Socratic reasoning (yakach) toward a son in whom He delights.
  3. No Sadistic Whipping: God is not a whipping deity who inflicts harm. The translation overlay of “scourging” obscures what is actually loving, Socratic child-training (paideia).
  4. Yielding Peaceful Fruit: Fatherly discipline stings our independent pride, but as Hebrews 12:11 promises, “No discipline seems enjoyable at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it yields a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”

Rest in your sealed status as a child of God, reject the horizontal lie of a whipping deity, and yield to the loving instruction of your Father!

There is No Condemnation for Those in Christ Jesus

Bible Study Books

The show features Bob George taking calls from listeners and emphasizing the ministry’s central message of life in Christ. Michelle asks whether the New Covenant simply changed how the Mosaic law is administered; Bob argues that believers are no longer under the law but under grace, and that the law reveals sin rather than making anyone righteous. He describes the New Covenant’s “laws” as Jesus’ commands to love God and others, and urges Michelle to rely on Christ rather than becoming entangled in legalism. Don then shares that his wife has been moved to Missouri, that he is adjusting to life in a mobile home, and that he has lost hearing in one ear after an infection; he also mentions a Bible study forming in Oregon and fellowship at Valley Bible in Stockton. Rick asks whether his brother, who is in prison and has struggled with addiction, should seek a deliverance minister. Bob rejects ritualized deliverance and instead stresses being born again, renewing the mind through Scripture, and growing in knowledge of Christ. Finally, another caller named Don asks about divine chastisement. Bob distinguishes discipline—training and preparation for a believer’s walk—from punishment, which he says Christ already bore on the cross. Throughout the program, Bob returns to themes of grace, spiritual growth, and freedom from condemnation.

Overview

The Classic Christianity Radio program addressed law and grace, spiritual freedom, and practical questions about Christian life.

Michelle (Santa Rosa)

  • Question: whether the New Covenant only changes the administration of the Mosaic law.
  • Bob’s response: the law exposes sin and cannot make anyone righteous; believers are under grace rather than the Mosaic law, and the New Covenant laws point to Jesus’ commands to love God and neighbor. He cited Scripture, including Galatians, Romans 3:20, Romans 8:14, and 2 Corinthians 3, and encouraged Michelle’s discernment.

Don (Stockton)

  • Question/update: shared hearing loss recovery, fellowship at Valley Bible in Stockton, and a Bible study in Oregon using Classic Christianity.
  • Bob’s response: expressed appreciation, encouraged Don to pass greetings to the fellowship, and offered prayerful wishes for continued recovery.

Rick (Torrance)

  • Question: whether his brother, who struggles with addiction and is in state prison, should seek a deliverance minister.
  • Bob’s response: rejected ritualistic deliverance, saying the answer is being born again and brought from darkness into light. He emphasized renewing the mind and growing in the knowledge of Christ rather than relying on exorcism rituals.

Don (Corsicana)

  • Question: whether God punishes believers after salvation.
  • Bob’s response: distinguished punishment from disciplinary training, saying Christ bore the punishment for sin. He discussed Hebrews 12 and Proverbs 3, including the translation issue he raised, and explained discipline as loving correction that prepares believers for their walk.
  • Bob’s response: encouraged listeners and thanked them for the conversation.

John 6:28,29

28 Therefore they said to Him, “What must we do, that we may be doing the works of God?”

29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you should believe in Him whom He has sent.”
