Classic Christianity – The Book of John P11 (02-28-23)

For God So Loved The World! God Loves You!

~ “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.” John 3:16-21

~ Eternal life begins the very moment you place faith in Jesus, God in flesh and what he did on the cross for YOU. He loved you so much that he took ALL your sins on the cross and forgave you, of ALL of them. Not some of them, but ALL of them! The proper response is faith by saying thank you Jesus for what you have done for me. I believe you! At that very moment God gives you the Holy Spirit and you become born again from above.

And so who believes in Him is not condemned. You’ve been freed from condemnation, but whoever does not believe they stand condemned already. God doesn’t condemn people to hell, my friends. It just says that he doesn’t condemn you to hell, there was a byproduct to sin. It’s called death. There’s a byproduct of jumping out of an airplane without a parachute. It’s called death. Gravity grabs you and you have splat on the ground. The airplane isn’t sitting up there and see what I did to you. It didn’t do anything to airlines didn’t cause that you decided to take a smoke outside. So the world has already condemned because he has not believed in God’s one, one and only Son. It didn’t have to one. One way I am the way I am the truth. and I am the Life and no man comes to the Father except through me. Now, guys, if we believe that, and we truly do believe that with all of our heart and soul, and we know how many people are out there who do not believe that, why wouldn’t we be tenacious and getting the message to them? And that’s the question that we all have. Why aren’t we more aware? That man is condemned by God? I think it’s because think Well, I’m not sure that they’re good people. Have you ever heard interviews of murderers, and rapists? Basically, I’m a good person. I just killed a few people. But basically, whatever that means, I’m a good person. Folks, Jesus said, there isn’t anybody good except God. And we have to realize that where we live, and where we work and play, are people out there that are dead, that are more than anxious to tell you about New Age thinking. All kinds of weird stuff. Hera Krishnas, just go out and tell you all about that kind of stuff. And we sit back and don’t say anything. Guys, the world is dead. People who do not have Christ are dead, and they’re gonna stay dead, until they come alive, or continue at their deathbed, refusing Christ Jesus. Not being narrow minded at all. Just being truthful, as to what the Word of God claims. Stand condemned already. Jesus doesn’t condemn you. I didn’t come to the world to condemn I don’t need to there’s a WAGES OF SIN called death on everyone that is born into this world with the option to receive life. They haven’t believed in God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict. God says, Yeah, had a trial. Here’s the verdict. Life has come into the world. But men love darkness instead of light. Why? because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly, that what he has done, has been done through God.

Now, that was the teaching of Jesus to Nicodemus, and to you and me today. Nicodemus, you must be born again. Nicodemus was thinking on a human level. What do you mean be born again? I’m an old man, you want me to crawl back into the womb of my mother and be born again? How can that be? And he was saying to him, Nicodemus, don’t you understand you’re a teacher of the law. But don’t you understand these things? That you had to be born of your mom and dad, that’s what it means to be born of water. You’re born in a sack of water, aren’t you? Anyone here not born a sack of water. You’re all born in a sack of water. That’s what it means to be born of water doesn’t mean to be dunked in water, or baptize, it means to be born in water. And he explains what that means. That which is flesh is flesh. And that which is spirit is spirit. You must be born again. Nicodemus didn’t understand that. You’ve got to be born from above, you got to be born physically by mom and dad. And then you got to be born from above by God. And if any man be in Christ, you’re a what?, a new creation. God has to create you. spiritually. You are born naturally of your mom and dad, you got to be born again spiritually created again by God. And that’s what he does. If any man be in Christ he is a new creation, old things have passed away. And behold, all things are new. Nicodemus did not understand that. Jesus explained that no one has ever gone into heaven. You didn’t know and you didn’t send someone to the heaven to bring this message back. Only the One who is in heaven came to the earth to give you the message. You can’t learn heavenly things from earthly people you got to learn or heavenly things from heavenly people. It’s why natural man can’t understand spiritual things. It’s foolish to him but the spiritual man comprehends all things. You got to be taught from above. And you realize guys and everyone sitting in this room who is in Christ Jesus has a capability being taught from above. That’s pretty good to be taught by God. Truth, not error. And so that’s the entry point we enter in to this relationship with God through being born from above. And how are you born from above? by faith, you accept the provision, you believe in what the Son of God came to do. He came to take away your sins at the cross never to see them again. He didn’t come to take away some of your sins, guys, he came to take away all of them. Is that right or wrong?

And there are people I have people sometimes say, Well, I understand that Jesus died from you know, my, my sins of the past, but what about, you know, what about the future? I ask people how many of your sins were in the future when Jesus died for him 2000 years ago? Seems like all up. He didn’t come to die for some sins, He came to take away the sins of the entire world of the entire world. Do you realize there is not a man born or a woman born into this world whose sins have not been reconciled by God? Are we together? Now are those sins have all people appropriated what Jesus did into their lives? No. Was it done for you? Yes, there is no more forgiveness to be executed for you or for anybody else. Were Saddam Hussein’s sins forgiven, by the cross where we were Hitler’s? Some people get mad at that stuff. Don’t get mad at it. So we’re yours. They all were. They all were. But you see, if you deny that, and you deny that there was a consequence to that sin called death, and refuse to come to the only source of life who is Jesus. Where are you going to die? in your sins. When you were dead in your sins, and the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you what? Alive. with who? Christ and forgave how many? all of your sins. So the provision that God made 2000 years ago at the cross is only received in his resurrected life. And that’s precisely why the Apostle Paul said, without the resurrection, we are to be pitied of all people, and are still in our sins. Knowing full well Jesus went to a cross and took away the sins of the world. But what was provided is only received in him, and in his resurrection. If you don’t believe in the resurrection, you’re still in your sins. The apostles were crucified and killed and tortured because of teaching of the resurrection. Not of the cross, everyone knew Jesus died on the cross. They just didn’t believe he was raised from the dead. And so it’s life.

Now, it says, After this pronouncement was made, and Jesus made this pronouncement to Nicodemus, and to you and me today. It says, After this event took place, Jesus and his disciples went out into the Judean countryside. They went to where he spent some time with them, and baptized. Now, before you get too far into that of Baptize, I want you just very quickly to go down to chapter four in your Bible, John four, all together. And the Pharisees heard that Jesus was gaining and baptizing more disciples than John, although in fact, it was not Jesus who baptize, but his disciples. Are we together? Jesus didn’t baptize anybody. Who gave you salvation? Jesus. Who died on a cross? Jesus. Who was raised from the dead? Jesus. Who’s seated today at the right hand of God? Jesus. Who baptized you? Not Jesus. Because baptism is not in salvation. Baptism has nothing to do with salvation. Jesus alone saved you. And if baptism saved you your lost because Jesus would have to save by baptize you to save you, would he not? He didn’t get somebody else hanging on the cross for him. Did he? Did he get anyone raised from the dead for him? No. If you are saved by baptism, who would have to baptize you? The same one who died for you. Simon has raised the dead for you. His name is Jesus. In it, you have people today who claim that you’re saved by getting dunked in water.

Now let’s study that for a little bit. But he was saying that he went there where they were baptized. And we know now that wasn’t Jesus but his disciples. Now John was also baptizing in the ancient near St. Sal. Salem, because there was plenty of water and people were constantly coming to be baptized. This was before John was put in prison. An argument developed between some of John’s disciples and a certain Hebrew over the matter of what? Ceremonial washing. Now, what are they going to be talking about? Baptism? What is another name for baptism? Ceremonial washing. Now, folks, there was a group of people called the Ascenes and many of them camped out in the desert very close to where the Dead Sea is, and where so many of the, of the manuscripts were found there in Israel. And the Ascenes were very, very devout people. Some people thought that John the Baptist was in an Ascene. They studied the scriptures. They went out in the deserts and lived such as John the Baptist, and they were very devout religious people. A part of their lifestyle was ceremonial washing, or baptism. It was an integral part of their cleansing process. All through Israel, you find baptismal pools, where they were ceremonial washing took place. If you wanted to get clean, you went in and did a ceremonial washing before you approach God. Amy talks about one of her relatives that in Russia that before he would read, the Bible would go in and get cleaned up, and brush his teeth and comb his hair, and then sit down and read the Bible kind of way of getting cleaned up before you approach the Word of God. And those are called ceremonial washings.

Did those ceremonial washing save anybody guys? No, it just it was a cleansing process. Now, later, it’s told the scripture that that kind of stuff might clean your body but didn’t do a thing for you. So. So there was an argument that developed over this thing of called ceremonial washing. So baptism is a ceremonial, a form of a ceremonial washing, something that you did before approaching God, so to speak.

They came to John and said to him, Rabbi, that’s an interesting isn’t it that they call John the Baptist rabbi, or teacher. It is my understanding. And it may be a false understanding. But it isn’t a false understanding according to Hebrew tradition, and to people that you would even talk to today in Israel who are Jewish, that in order to be called rabbi, you had to be a rabbi. That’s my understanding. And in order to be a rabbi, you had to go to rabbinical school. Is that your understanding too? Or do you know? I don’t know, either. That’s just what is told. And you certainly don’t have too many people called rabbi in the Scripture, Jesus was called rabbi. We believe, and I believe this with all my heart that Jesus went to rabbinical school in Sepphoris, which is a city across from Nazareth, that has been excavated. And many, many findings have been found there. But it was the only rabbinical school in Israel besides Jerusalem. Some of us have been there when we took our trip to Israel. And it is known that Mary’s father Eli was the, the headmaster of the rabbinical school during that period of time. So it would make sense in as much as you just could go across on a mule from from Nazareth to Sepphoris. That and also was a booming metropolitan area where carpenters and that type of thing would be working continually, that it does make some sense that that’s what Jesus was doing during those silent years when we never heard anything about him, was preparing himself in rabbinical school.

Well, they called John the Baptist rabbi. Why? I don’t know maybe he was in rabbinical school himself. So we don’t know that. But they called him teacher. And they said to him, that man who is with you on the other side of the Jordan, that man over there that Jesus, the one you testified about, well, can’t you just hear? Well, he’s baptizing and everyone is going to him. To this, John replied, A man can receive only what is given him from heaven. And John, again, is testifying. Basically what Jesus was testifying in regard to the statement that he made in verse 13. You can only receive what is given to you from heaven. You yourselves can testify that I said, I am not the Christ. But I am sent ahead of him, I’m sent to proclaim Him. The bride belongs to the bride groom. And the friend who attends the bride groom, waits and listens for him and is full of joy, when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy, he said, is mine, and it is now complete. I have been waiting, I’ve been an attending the bridegroom. And I’ve been waiting for him. I’ve been listening for him. And it’s full of joy. When I was able to identify him at the Jordan, when the one who sent me to baptize told me the one on whom you see the dove descend. That’s the Messiah. And that’s how I knew who the Messiah was, is when the dove descended on him, and I heard the voice from Heaven cry out, This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. So he said, My joy is now complete. He, Jesus now must become greater. Before Jesus came, I would say John the Baptist was probably the most important pastor or preacher on the face of the earth. Jesus gave John the Baptist a compliment. Beyond all compliments, he said, There has been no man like John the Baptist, no man was ever born, like John the Baptist. That would be quite a statement for God to make about a person, wouldn’t it? No one has ever been born, like John the Baptist. But he said, John says, that I must become less. Jesus must become greater, I must become less. The one who comes from above, he recognized where Jesus came from, is above all, and the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven, is above all. Now, guys, this ties in to the pre existence of Christ Jesus, not Jesus of Nazareth, the body, the body was born from the Virgin Mary, but the pre existence of Christ. God is, what or who? Spirit, right? God is Spirit. The pre existence of Christ Jesus is that he was before all things, all things were created by Him, all things were created for him. So the pre existence of Christ.

Who is the real you, this body that we see, or underneath the skin that we don’t see? Which is it? It’s the thing it’s not there when you look at a corpse. The body is there. The eyeballs are there, the ears are there, all the parts are there, but you’re gone. Is that right or wrong? Guys? You see that, don’t you? When I saw my dad in the coffin, the first thing I said dad didn’t hear, he’s gone. The body’s there. But he isn’t. That’s why I said, I want somebody to put on my tombstone, go home, I’m not here. The body’s there, but you’re not. And so it’s tying into the pre existence of Christ Jesus, John the Baptist knew that Jesus was God, not this body. But the pre existence of Christ, God is Spirit, the spiritual Jesus, the spiritual Jesus who came to this earth, and took upon himself our Earth suit. And as it says, finding himself in appearance as a man. He was quite different from just a man, he found himself in an appearance as a man, but he was God in a man suit. You and I are a man or a woman in dwelt by God, He was God, clothed in a human suit, he found himself in an appearance as a man, and took upon himself our humanity. But that was God taking upon himself, our humanity, and walked on this earth, teaching us how to live as a man, I can’t live as God. So he taught me how to live as a man. And they walked on this earth in total submission to his Father. Everything I do and say, the Father tells me to do it and say it and how to say it. I don’t do anything unless the Father tells me to say it, and do it. Walked in total dependency and said, as a Father sent me so send I you. So he taught us how to live as a branch. What’s the role of a branch? To abide in the vine. And when he abides in the vine, sure enough, he bears fruit of the vine. If he doesn’t abide in the vine, he doesn’t bear the fruit of the vine. He’s still there. But he doesn’t bear any fruit. And he compared it. Now is that hard to understand? You see, we don’t tell the branch, go out and sicem for Jesus. Go out and sicem for the vine. Go out and try to produce vine stuff. You know, come on, get with it. Get more holy.

They asked Jesus, what’s the work of the ministry? It’s like asking a branch, what’s the work of the branch? What would you say? If a branch could talk and ask you? What’s the work of the branch? What would you say? Abide in the vine. When there’s something else for me to do? No, no, abide in the vine, and the vine will produce the work. While I want to produce the work. Well go get yourself some wax and make some wax, but some wax apples on top of your branch and hope no one comes out and takes a bite of it. And that’s what we have in religion. We have branches out there producing artificial fruit and hoping that God that no one gets near it, to touch it or to eat it for sure. Because if you do, they’re gonna get a mouthful of wax. He says, I want you to abide. I want you to trust in me, God to produce in you love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, long suffering against these things there is no law for you to obey or disobey. It’s the fruit of what? The Spirit. So I want you to learn to abide in me.

John the Baptist would be saying, You’re not going to get that kind of talk from us. You’re not going to hear that lesson from us. You’re not going to hear any human being teaching that message. We’re going to be teaching how to go sicem. We’re going to be teaching you need to join our group to be saved. We’re going to be teaching all that stuff, said you’re not going to hear what Jesus just said from any man. That message is from above. And so he’s saying that the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth and He speaks is one from the earth. But the one who comes from heaven is above all. He Jesus testifies to what he has seen and heard from WHO? God. I’m testifying to you from God. Remember the testimony in John this is the testimony of God concerning his Son It’s not the testimony of Martin Luther, the testimony of Calvin, it’s the testimony of God concerning his Son. That God has given you eternal life. And this life is any Son, and he has the Son has life. And he does not have the Son of God does not have life, it means you’re dead. And these things I’ve written unto You who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know not hope, so know that you have what? Eternal life. That’s a testimony of God. You didn’t hear that from man, no man could come up with that one, that had to come out of heaven. How can any man make up a story like that? Had to come from heaven. He testifies to what he’s seen and heard. But he says, no one accepts his testimony. And that’s something, I believe what man says, but I don’t believe this testimony of God. The man who has accepted it, has certified that God is truthful. For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit. The Father loves the Son, and has placed everything in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life. Whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him. Guys, listen to these words. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life. And whoever rejects the Son will not see life. You will remain dead. For God’s wrath doesn’t come upon you. God’s wrath remains upon you.
