Classic Christianity – The Book of John P12 (03-01-23)

Jesus is the Author of Truth ~ The Holy Spirit Will Guide You in All Truth

~ The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:14

~ There is only one Person that can teach you All truth and that is the Holy Spirit of God. Trust in him to teach you truth. For in this world there are many many lies that we were born into, and we who have the Holy Spirit alive living in us need to abide in Him and be taught truth.

~ “And these words that Jesus has spoken are from God, they were not originated here. They didn’t come from here, they came from God. That is why we who are from the earth cannot understand spiritual things that come from heaven, their foolishness to us, until such time that we are plugged in to the person from heaven, and not as Christ Jesus. Natural man cannot understand spiritual things, their foolishness to him. But the spiritual man can understand all things because they have come from the Spirit. And we have to understand the truth of that. So Jesus came to this earth to speak to us the words and the thoughts of God himself, to you and me. So he says, he speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit. So when he gave to us, the Holy Spirit of God, it was not a limited gift. It was the Spirit of God, in His fullness given to us. The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. And then this marvelous passage, whoever believes in the Son of God has eternal life. But whoever rejects that Son will not see that life for God’s wrath remains upon him.”

Bob George 0:28
Well let’s turn to the fourth chapter of the book of John. As we concluded last week, a statement was made in the Scripture, that the one who comes from above is above all, and the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and He speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all. He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony. The man who has accepted it has certified that God is truthful. For the one on whom God has sent speaks the word of God, for God. We have to understand that’s what Jesus came to do the one whom God has sent, speaks the words of God, from God. Remember, it talked about no one goes up into heaven and grabs the Word of God and brings it down. Only the one who came from heaven brings the word down to you and me. The words of God that we study in this Bible are the words that Jesus has spoken. And these words that Jesus has spoken are from God, they were not originated here. But whoever rejects that Son will not see that life for God’s wrath remains upon him. And as we talked about last week, folks, God does not send people to hell, the wrath of God remains upon us. And the destiny of dead people is to live among the people of the dead. By choice, you don’t want life you want to live among the dead. We’re born into this world dead spiritually. And the only thing a dead man needs is life. And the only life available to us is the life of Christ Jesus. And that’s why he says that whoever believes in Him in what Jesus came to do, and what Jesus came to say, and what Jesus came to train you and me to do, to believe in Him in His totality. You have life, his resurrection, was the life that raised Him from the dead available to raise you and me from the dead spiritually. When we reject that life, we remain dead. We don’t get dead, we remain dead. And the wrath of God which is Death, The wages of sin is death remains upon us.

We have to realize to a degree that Adam was born again backwards. He was created with life and chose death. We’re born into this world dead with the ability to choose life. And when we get the message of Christ Jesus, and we realized what he came to do for you and me. And we reject that. We just remain dead and the wrath of God remains upon us. That’s the condition of the lost is the wrath of God remains upon you. And the condition of the saved is that we been saved from the consequences of sin, which is death by the gift of God, which is eternal life.

We have reduced many times the Christian life down to sins. And that’s all we talk about is sins, sins, sins and sin. We talk continually about what God said He took away and spend no time talking about what he came to give. And that’s life. Jesus came to take away the sins of the world. No man will ever go to hell because of his sins. Do we understand that folks? And yet we’ll sit and judge and judge and judge, but I’m sorry, no man will go to hell because of his sins, plural. Why? Because your sins were placed upon Christ Jesus at the cross, never to see them again. There is only ONE SIN singular, that as man is attributable for and that’s the sin of the rejection of the provision of God through his Son, Jesus Christ, to take away the sins of the world, and to give us eternal life. The refusal of that life means you remain dead, and the wrath of God remains upon you. Are we together? So this whole thing if you keep on sinning God gonna send you to hell. That is not truth. That is not truth. The issue is the message of salvation. The good news of salvation is that God took away your sins 2000 years ago at a cross. And there he who knew no sin became sin for you. So that in Him now what’s this in him me? It means in his resurrected life, you and I could become the righteousness of God. Do you have any righteousness apart from the righteousness that’s been given to you by God? So how we go around bragging on how righteous we are, when everything that we have comes from him. But when we have received that we have what? Everything, and we have received the Spirit without limit. That’s why he says, We’ve been given everything that we need for life and for godliness. And so folks, just because Jesus took away the sins of the world, as we’ve talked about before, does not mean you’re saved. Because until you recognize that what he provided for you then is only received and grabbed ahold of through His resurrected life. Then we just walk and say oh well, Jesus died for my sins, and I kind of need life insurance policy. So I’ll just, I’ll accept Jesus is the one who died for my sins. And you have 1000s of people folks screaming down aisles, to accept forgiveness of sins through his cross, but don’t have a clue that that forgiveness provided is only received in his resurrection. Only received in the fact that Jesus was raised from the dead. That’s the emphasis of the New Testament I came at you might have what? life. I’m the way in the truth in the life he has the sun has life. The whole emphasis of salvation is on the life of Christ Jesus. Thank God for the cross. But the cross is where God cleared the deck for the divine action of bringing life to the dead. We got a problem. We’re sinners. And those sins had to be paid for. But thanks be to God, he did it. He paid for it. He became sin for you. Thank God for that. But in case we haven’t figured it out, guys, there’s something called death that’s worse than sin. It’s worse than sins. Have we figured that out? Death is worse than sinning. And we’re dead. And when you’re dead, you need life. And that’s why many times people have short circuited Salvation. All we’ve done is accept the death of Christ for you, but never the life of Christ in you. And so we have a half gospel.

Well, there were people like that religious people. Part of that was was the fact that people called the Samaritans. We’re going to get into that in just a minute. Now, people will talk about salvation. And how many times have you heard that you’re saved by getting baptized? Have you heard that? Do we realize in John four, when the Pharisees heard that? Jesus was gaining and baptizing more people than John although in fact it was not Jesus who baptized but His disciples, and when the Lord learned that he left Judea and went back more to Galilee, how come? How come Jesus never baptized anybody? A man can baptize you. But only God can take away your sins at the cross. And only God can be raised from the dead. And a baptism was a part of salvation. You had better get Jesus back here to dunk you. Only Jesus can save you. Man cannot save you. Man can’t die on a across. Man can’t be raised from the dead. Man can dunk in water. But man can’t save you. Only Jesus can save you. Why didn’t Jesus baptize? So that no one could say that you’re saved by baptism. And yet we have whole denominations to teach your save a baptism.

Baptismal regeneration, quite frankly, I think that is a bold faced lie on the people who proclaim that because in essence, what they’re saying is to be saved, you have to be baptized in my waters, by my pastor, and belong to my church. I told some people who believe in baptismal regeneration one time I said, Look, I really want to know that I’m saved, you tell me I’m not saved. So I really want to know how to be saved. So let me see if we can do that. You say that in order to be saved, You gotta be baptized. Is that right? Yeah. Well, I’ve been baptized. I bet you mourn you have. I said, I was baptized in a church where I was done three times, once in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. And then I was joined another church and was sprinkled. And then I joined another church. And Amy and I both are baptized once. So I’ve been baptized three times sprinkled and dunked. Now am I saved? no, you’re not saved. I said, Boy, you got me confused. If I’m not saved what do I have to do now? I’ve been baptized more than you have. But I’m not saved now what I have to do now? Well, you gotta believe in the name of Lord Jesus. Oh, I do that. And I can tell you the day I was saved, and I can introduce you to hundreds of people who witness the total life change in my life, I can do that. Am I was saved now? No not saved at all okay. You got me confused, but it will keep going what I have to do now? Well, you got to join our church. I’ll be there Sunday. And I’ll be there and join your church now will I be saved? Well, no. I said, Now you really got me confused. First of all, you say I gotta be baptized. I’ve been baptized more than you do. You said that I have to believe in Jesus Christ, I already told you that’s occurred. Now you say I’m going to join the church, I say a will. And you say I’m still not saved. Why? Well, because you need to be baptized by our pastor, in our waters. And I said, there’s the hypocrisy. And there’s the absolute reason that my feeling is you ain’t saved. You cannot be saved, believing you’re saved, by getting dunked in water folks. You can only be saved by believing in the one Jesus, not what you did. He didn’t baptize anybody. But he did go to across. Didn’t he? And he did die didn’t he? And he was raised from the dead, isn’t he? And today is seated at the right hand of the Father, isn’t he? It doesn’t have anything to do with you and me. It has everything to do with him.

And so really what people are saying is you got to join my church to be saved. And nothing could be any more heretical in teaching than believing that your church saves anybody or our church saves anybody. We can’t save anybody. And yet there are people who believe in baptismal regeneration, but they don’t believe in baptismal regeneration. They believe in baptismal regeneration in their church, by their pastor, in their waters. Jesus didn’t baptize anyone the reason he didn’t I believe with all my heart and soul is because it’s like Jesus said anything in baptism saves anybody when I’m going to do only I can do. John the Baptist dunked in water. Now the John the Baptist say that I baptize you with water, but one coming after me who sandals that I’m not worthy to untie will baptize you what? with the Holy Spirit. Now the issue is what does that mean? When you are born again, the Scripture tells us that when you are born again, the Spirit of God comes to live in you, that’s Christ in you. And and Romans says, without the Spirit of God living in you, you don’t belong to Him. So you could not be born again, unless you’re born again, of the Spirit. That’s why he says, I give the Spirit without limit. So when you’re born again, is when the Spirit of God comes to live in you, that’s Christ in you your hope of glory. And then the Spirit of God baptizes, or places you into the body of Christ, that you in him, Christ in you, you in him, you have been placed, baptized into the body of Christ. Now that means that when you’re born again, you’re a part of his body, are we together, there’s only one body and yet the body is made up of many parts. And those parts are many forms what? one body. That’s the baptism of the Holy Spirit. That’s what Peter said, is the baptism that saves, not being dunked in water. But being placed spiritually that only Jesus can do, spiritually placing you into his body. That’s why he said, I’m going away, my body is going away. But he said to his disciples, it’s good for you that I’m going away for when I go, I’m going to send my Spirit into you, and you are going to be my body. That’s why folks, the body of Christ is all over the world. At the same time. When Jesus was here on Earth, the body of Christ was confined to Israel, wherever Jesus was, that’s where the body of Christ was. But he said, it’s good for you, I’m going away. Because when I do, my body is going to be all over the world at the same time, with my spirit living in you, which is your only hope of glory.

Now, folks, nothing has changed. You have professors and you have possessors. You have people who have truly come to know and to understand the truth of Jesus, the Messiah, the God who we study in our scriptures, and then you have people who follow other doctrines that sound very close, sometimes even use the name of Jesus. But remember what Jesus said that to people come to him and say, Don’t you man, did you see the miracles? I did? And don’t you see all the things that I did? He said, I don’t know who you are. I don’t know you. I know you’ve been doing a lot of stuff out there. But I don’t know who you are. You’re not mine. You don’t belong to me. Well, did you hear me speaking in tongues? Yeah, I heard you. You’re not one of mine. Well, did you see me do miracles? Yeah, I did. Not one of mine, not my miracles. Remember what he said. In John, we studied earlier, they believed in his name, but Jesus did not entrust himself to them. For he knew man, and he knew what was in a man and he did not need the testimony of man concerning man. Remember that? There’s only one person in this room. Who knows for sure you’re saved, that you. And you also know whether you’re not saved? That you I don’t know, you look saved to me. I hope I look saved you sometimes. But the issue is, there’s only one person that knows for sure. And that you, you know for sure whether you have bent your knees to God and said, Lord, if apart from you, I’m not going to get to heaven. And my whole my whole dependency on my leaving this earth and going into Your presence is on you. It’s not on my church. It’s not on what I’m doing for you. It’s totally upon you and you alone, as to what you have done for me. I didn’t deserve it. I didn’t earn it. But I’m sure accepting it. Because if you’re not it, I ain’t going. It’s that simple isn’t it guys, if Jesus if you’re not the one, then I won’t be there, period. In fact, if you’re not the one I don’t even want to be there. That’s the kind of dependency that you got to have in your heart to be born again. It’s not Jesus plus, getting dunked in water, or Jesus plus speaking in tongues, or Jesus plus going to church or Jesus plus anything? Whenever you add to Jesus, you subtracted from Jesus. It’s Jesus period. He’s God’s gift God sent him to tell us what God said, This is God’s testimony concerning his Son, that He’s given us eternal life. And this life is any Son. It’s not in the water. It’s in his Son. And he who has the Son has life, and he does not have the Son of God is dead as a hammer. That’s a little paraphrase there. You’re dead. And these things I’ve written to you believe in the name of the Son of God, know that you may want hope? No, KNOW. And it says, if you are born again, the Spirit of God testifies with your spirit that you’re a son of God. You don’t have to ask people who do you really think I am. Your Spirit testifies. And if you don’t have a spirit testify that you’re a son of God, you got a problem that can be solved like that. And that is just accepting the truth of what Jesus came to do for you through His death, and His burial, and His resurrection.

Now such was the case in Samaria. Now, we know that Jesus had said, had to go through Samaria. Now, folks, they’re in and of itself is somewhat of a problem, because the Hebrews really tried to avoid Samaria in any way that they could, as a matter of fact, when they would be going from Galilee down to Jerusalem for Passover, they would go miles and miles out of their way in order to go around Samaria, rather than going through it. The Samaritans hated the Hebrews and the Hebrews hated the Samaritans. The Hebrews looked at the Samaritans as a bunch of half breeds. They looked at people that brought in other people from other nationalities and call themselves Hebrews and Samaritans. They hated them. There had also been wars in the past in which the Hebrews had gone in and destroyed Samaria. And then their leadership and they were hated for this. They were hated people on both sides hated by the Hebrews, this hated Samaritans and the Samaritans absolutely detested the Hebrews. And so Jesus went through Samaria. And he came to this town in Samaria called Skylar. Near a pot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph, and Jacob’s well was there we’ve all heard of that, and Jesus, who in his humanity could get tired, and he was tired from his journey. It says that he sat down by the well and it was about the sixth hour. When the Samaritan woman came to draw water. Jesus said to her, will you get me a drink? His disciples were told had gone out to the next town to buy food. The Samaritan woman said to him, you’re a Hebrew and I’m a Samaritan woman. How can you asked me for a drink for Hebrews don’t associate with Samaritans are Another translation says they don’t drink out of the same cup. In other words, they wouldn’t use a dish that a Samaritan had used. That’s the hatred guys that was there. If you’ve even touched a cup, I’m not drinking out of it. If you’ve eaten off of a plate, I’m not eating off of it. That’s pretty strong, hated. But that was the case. And so she’s saying, Look, you’re a Hebrew, I’m a Samaritan. How are you going to ask me for a drink? Jesus answered her. If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water. You kind of wonder whether this was kind of sarcastic what she was saying or whether she is really curious here. She said, Sir, the woman said you have nothing to draw with. And this well is deep. Where can you get this living water? How you gonna get it out of here? See, she was thinking, a well, how are you gonna get out of there? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his flocks, and he’s herds. And Jesus answered, Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again. Anyone who digs into this water well full of water, you’re gonna drink, but you’re gonna get thirsty again. Is that right? You’re always gonna get thirsty. Now, here’s something that he says but here’s the contrast. whoever drinks the water that I give him. He will never thirst. never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life. Well, the woman said to him, in essence, well, if that’s the case, Sir, give me this water so that I will get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water every day. Now guys there again, Jesus is speaking of a spiritual truth, is he not? And we’re thinking in a physical realm. He came from heaven. He’s bringing down information from heaven. He’s communicating information from heaven about himself, that when you drink my water, you’ll never thirst again.

Now, I wonder sometimes why people say that I have drunk from Christ Jesus. And yet I’m seeking something else. And you have people who say, Oh, yeah, I’m born again, bro, I want the spirit. Or oh, I want to find the Father. Or I want to find something. I don’t care what I find, just want to find something. I want an experience. I want to feel something. We ever do that ever have that ever seen people like that? I want to feel something. I want proof. I want to get sick so I get healed, get proof. Just do anything to get me some proof. And folks, Jesus is saying if you’ve drank my water, you wouldn’t be thirsty like that. I don’t know whose water you’ve been drinking. But it didn’t mind. And I believe that with all my heart, when you have tasted the living water, there is nothing to thirst over again. There is no one to seek. You don’t seek the Father. Jesus said when you’ve seen me, you’ve seen the Father. You don’t seek the Holy Spirit. There is nothing to seek. He lives in you in his fullness. There isn’t a thing to seek when you already got it. I don’t sit around seek my stomach trying to fill it but I don’t seek it. You don’t seek your heart. You don’t seek your eyeballs. You already got him. When you’re in Christ Jesus, you have been given what? every thing that you need for life. And for godliness. There’s nothing else to seek. That’s what Jesus is saying.
