Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at Your Identity in Christ P11 (04-05-22)
You Must be Born Again of The Spirit! Now Walk Into His Presence Calling Him Abba Daddy Father!
Starting in our lesson here in Chapter 2 dealing with the fact that from God’s vantage point, there are only two kinds of men, those in Adam and we talked about a person who is in Adam, is called a sinner. You’re not a sinner because you sin, you sin because you’re a sinner, you are dead. It’s called spiritual death, you’re a natural man. You’re a sinner. You’re in Adam. That’s all a part of being in Adam. You’re also called a natural man.
The opposite of that is called a spiritual man. What is that? That is one who has been transferred from a sinner to a saint. A sinner is an unbeliever. A saint is a believer. It’s one who is born again. I’m not a saint because I act like one. I’m not a sinner because I act like one. What, I’m a sinner because you are one. And you’re a saint, because you are one. That’s just that, just the way it is. Yes. It’s all in identity.
We talked about, last week, the parallels that we have in citizenship, that as example, we used Amy as an example. Amy was born in Russia, a Russian citizen, that citizenship was denounced and she became an American citizen. Now she’s dead to citizenship, but on the other hand you can have a person who’s dead to citizenship and all of that amounts to and alive to being a United States citizen and all that that amounts to. But come into that relationship, dragging some of the old thoughts and the baggage of communism, even though you’re a new citizen dragging some of those thoughts in with you. Now that does have nothing to do with your citizenship, but it does have everything to do with how you’re going to enjoy your citizenship. And therefore that you’re going to be in a process of having your mind renewed on what democracy is about for the rest of your life. And that’s an illustration. Now, any illustrations are going to fall short to some degree, and when you’re talking about this country anymore, well, it is going to fall short. It would have been a lot greater example 20 years ago than it is today, but it is an example.
So it’s like marriage. We covered that last week. Marriage, you can be married. Now, when you’re married, you’re no longer single. The old will be able to figure that out. You are now married, but you can drag with that many single thoughts and single attitudes and like I’ve said until you die, to singleness folks, you’ll never come alive to your marriage.
Until you die to the law, even though you’re saved until you die to the law, you’ll never come alive to the newness of life that is in Christ Jesus. Until you die to who you were in Adam, you will never come alive to who you are in Christ. It doesn’t mean that you’re not born again or that you’re not in Christ. It may mean that but it doesn’t necessarily mean that. But if I’m in Christ, I’m going to have to continually be in the process of dying to those mindsets that used to control me in order to come alive with the renewing of my mind to be controlled no longer by no longer the world as we talked about last last week, whereby we were controlled by the by the world. We were controlled by the powers of this world. The ruler of the kingdom of this air we’re told in Ephesians 2 1 through 3, the ways of the world and the spirit which is not the Holy Spirit but it is satanic spirit that is at work among those who are lost disobedient. And that means who have never obeyed the gospel. So we have to realize that this is an area of position. It’s an area of inheritance. It’s an area of identity. But until we get that straight, it’s not going to do any good at all for me to talk about dying to those things. Until we realize who it is that’s dying to. And so if you’re in Christ you are in Christ, is a new creation. When you’re in Adam, you are Adam has an old creation.
Now that Precisely picking up on page 17, what Jesus was talking about to Nicodemus in the third chapter, when He stated to him, that I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God. In other words, no one is going to be in this new kingdom. This kingdom of God, that is going to take place as a result of My death, burial and resurrection. It’s a new Kingdom right now. It’s going to be after that event, it’s an invisible Kingdom, but it’s a kingdom. One of these days it will be visible. But until it’s visible, it’s invisible. No one is going to be a part of the family of God, in other words, a part of this Kingdom whereby God is your king unless he’s born again. In other words, you’ve been born physically, now you need to be born spiritually. Now, in both cases, physical birth comes from a seed. And spiritual birth also, has to come from a seed. So you have to be born of the Spirit. Just as you were born from your father’s seed, physically, you’re going to have to be born from God seed, spiritually. And so, there’s two births that have to take place. A natural birth will not do it, speaking to a Jew who thought that he was going to be in the kingdom of God because of his natural birth. I’m a Jew. He said no, you were born physically a Jew but you have to be born again as a child of God.
And so you’re dealing again with contrast, physical birth, spiritual birth. So, I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God, unless he is Born Again. Nicodemus’ response to that was, what do you mean be born again? I’m an old man. You expect me to climb back into the womb of my mother and be born again? So again, Nicodemus was having a little difficulty comprehending. He was thinking on the physical plane, you had to be born again. What are you talking about? I’m a Jew. So you have to have two Jewish births in order to enter the kingdom of God? We are you talking about and Jesus said, I tell you the truth, that no one can enter the kingdom of God, unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Now, what do you know? He’s talking about being born of water and the Spirit is merely tying into what he was just talking about. You have to be born again. You were born physically. Now you have to be born spiritually and He clarifies that. Flesh gives birth to flesh. That’s what it means to be born of water. And Spirit gives birth to Spirit. That’s what it means to be born of God.
Now folks you and I are born in a sack of water and that is an expression that was used, born in water. That’s how babies come out of there. Come out of their mother’s wombs. They’re born in a sack of water that water breaks and out they come, and that’s physical birth. So He’s saying you’re not going to enter the kingdom of God by just physical birth being born a Jew, you’re going to have to be born again, physically and spiritually.
Flesh gives birth to flesh, that’s all it does. But flesh does not give birth to the Spirit. You must be born again of the Spirit. And folks, you’re not born again by your inheritance. You’re not born again by your church denomination. You’re born again by the Spirit of God. God doesn’t have any grandchildren, only has children. And we are individually born again as we individually come to Christ by faith accepting His substitutionary death for us, and His resurrected life in us. As Jesus said, you must be born again and He gives the answer as to how that occurs in John 3:16, a very familiar passage to all of us. That for God so loved the world that he gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him, Jesus, should not perish but have eternal life.
So we’re told that the motivation for His giving of His Son was love and as I’ve said so many times that it was love that held Jesus to the cross. It was not nails, but it was the love of God. An insight, it was discussed when Christ was at the cross. You remember how the people came to him, His enemies and how they were saying, Hey, you know, in essence big guy, you can save yourself, you know, or you can save others. Why don’t you save yourself? And we kind of pass over that passage. You know, Jesus answered that would have been, if I save myself, I can’t save others. Now the question was you’ve saved others, why don’t you save yourself?
But in essence, He couldn’t save himself, or He could not have saved others. And so that is what held him to the Cross was the fact that there’s no other name under Heaven, given among men whereby we must be saved. And without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins and the blood of bulls and goats can never take away sin. And therefore, Christ himself. God In the flesh, had to come take upon Himself our humanity, take that humanity to the cross as a sacrifice for all men, since only the shed blood of God himself was precious enough to cover the vileness of the sins of the entire world throughout eternity. And therefore, He who knew no sin became sin for us so that in Him, and what that means is in His resurrected life, we could become the righteousness of God no longer in Adam, but in Him.
There’s no man in Adam that could ever become the righteousness of God. There’s no man through physical birth that could ever become the righteousness of God. It’s only through accepting His righteousness, His life, His forgiveness that He made us children of God. Now, that’s why in John 1:12 and 13. It states again, yet to all, who received Him, to those who believed in His name, in other words, accepted when you receive something, you receive it. In other words, it’s been received. Did you get the message? Yes, I’ve received it. It’s been, it’s been received. It’s been digested. It’s put in my head and I understand it. Did you receive what? I told you the teacher could say student, did you receive what I told you? Do you understand it? Yeah. Well then speak it back to me. Do you understand it? Yes, I’ve received. Did you receive my message? Yes, let me know. You do that on faxes of that. Did you receive the message? Then let me know so that I know the message has been received. Jesus came and proclaimed the message. He demonstrated the message of God’s love was so demonstrated to us in that while we were yet sinners, He came to die for us. That’s as a good a demonstration as you’re going to get.
And Jesus referred to that, I’m not that you don’t need any more miracles, my resurrection is all the miracle you need from this point on now, to as many as received that they’ve heard it, they’ve received, they’ve internalized it, they believed in His name and believing in His name doesn’t just mean saying Jesus. Jesus, Jesus, and beans. All it is. Who is He? He’s the Messiah. He’s the Son of God. He’s the Alpha. He’s the Omega. He’s the beginning. He’s the resurrection. He’s the life. He’s the Good Shepherd. He laid down his life for His sheep. He is your food. He is your water. He is your living everything. So it’s not just a name, Jesus. It’s all that, that amounts to believing in His name. To all of those, He gave the right to become a child of God, to become children of God.

Children, born not of natural descent. In other words, not born out of water, not born out of the will of your mom and dad nor of human decision or a husband’s will. Husband’s will, we’re going to have a baby. That’s not the kind of birth He’s talking about. Let’s talk about, but born of God. Now, let me read that again yet to all who received Him to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God, children born not of natural descent, you’re of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
So, folks, when we are born of God, we have a new identity. Now, when we are born of a husband’s will or of natural descent, well, we’ve got an identity of my father. In other words, my dad was Franklin George. My name is Bob George. So, there’s a certain identity, family identity, but it’s all human. The same way, I’ve been born again of the Spirit and called a child of the living God. Who’s my child? Who’s my father? God. Who was my father before? It says Satan. I’ve got a new identity. A new inheritance. I have a new father. I have a new Destiny. Where was my destiny in? Adam? Hell, where is my destiny today? Heaven? What was my destiny in? Adam, eternal separation from God. What is my destiny in Christ? Eternal fellowship with God. So it’s something brand-new. Now, it says in Romans 8, 15 and 17, when I have been born again of the Spirit of God called a child of the living God in-dwelt, by the Spirit of God. In Romans also tells us that if the Spirit of God does not live in us, we do not belong to Christ. And then it says, in Romans 8, you did not receive a Spirit that makes you a slave again to fear. But you received the Spirit of sonship and by Him the Son, we cry Abba Father that means Daddy. It’s the most intimate of Hebrew terms. If you go over to Israel and you walk around playgrounds or out in the streets, you’ll hear kids calling Abba Abba. Daddy Daddy. It’s the most intimate of terms.
And by Christ living in us, we can cry out Daddy Father. Now, if we’re made children of God, what is so unusual about Him being our Father? And if He is our Father, then why shouldn’t we be able to cry out to Him in the most intimate of terms? Daddy, Father. He’s God, but He’s my Dad. Daddy.
I use the illustration and within our seminars, as you know, but one of the magazines I would absolutely love to get a hold of the magazine, maybe some of our listeners listening, might have a copy of that. I don’t remember what magazine. It came out with it was Life or one of the major magazines. I don’t think we know otherwise we could find it but years ago, we had the original and since then it’s been copied but the originals have been lost.
But it was a picture of John Kennedy, and Salinger was in there and probably the Secretary of Defense and of the army and they were in the Oval Office of the White House where the most powerful offices on the face of the Earth. And all of them deeply concerned. Now there was a reason why they were deeply concerned. This was the Cuban crisis that took place years ago. Whereby we are now told the danger that was in that particular time of history whereby Russia in cooperation with Castro had placed missiles into Cuba aimed at the United States. And we were on the threshold of a potential nuclear Holocaust and so that was serious business. So here is John Kennedy standing there. Kind of that the face it with his face toward the picture. And here we are all of them. Everybody’s worried with concerned looks on their faces. And then of course, his desk was there. And as many desks are why you’ve got this little place in the middle, opening the opening for your feet and who is in that opening on his hands and knees but John John just grinning up a storm looks like Alfred Newman. Me worried? Of course I’m not worried about anything. And when you look closely at the picture, you see that in between John Kennedy’s feet that are folded, was his shoe. That’s where he was crawling before he crawled under his desk and was up between his legs. He’s not worried at all. So why should I worry? That’s my father’s concern. Think, sometimes I’m old life here. I’m supposed to be calling him daddy, father, and I’m sitting there taking the burdens of the Cuban crisis upon myself, instead of turning it over to Dad. It’s like saying the dad said it’s my business to worry about that stuff. Bob play, have fun, you know, if I’m not calling you to be worrying about that, we do that, worried about your future and worrying about me. It’s amazing. How dumb we are and how we forget that he is our Abba, Father. But that’s a phenomenal picture. If any of you are listing who find that in a magazine, please send it to me. It’s a phenomenal picture.
And you see you could say, well, how did he get in there? I mean, if you have to go through a security guard. No, you have to go through the secretary’s no you think when he crawled in there, that John Kennedy said, now you little dickens, do you have any unconfessed sin in your life? Because if you do, you’re not going to talk to me. I don’t think so. How do you get in there? It’s his daddy. And you say, Hey kid, don’t, you know, that’s a president of the United States? Said, yeah, but he’s my daddy and because he’s my daddy, why just bound into this most important office in the world. Just any time I want to crawl around on the ground in between his legs, leave my shoes all over the place. Why? He’s my daddy.
And that’s what this is talking about. We don’t have to be a slave to fear. What does that mean? Fearing God, fearing His wrath, fearing His punishment. We’ve been reading. But instead we’ve received this Spirit of sonship. Well, whereby from now on as a child of God, we can cry out Abba Father. Daddy Father. Best news in the world as this new creature in Christ. Being born again. Now of the Spirit of God, no longer in Adam, translated, out of the spirit out of the kingdom of darkness into the, into the kingdom of the Son. It says it. In whom we love, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. So we’ve been transferred from the law, whereby the wages of sin is what? Death. Under the curse of the law, under the condemnation of the law. And therefore, it says, we did not receive the Spirit that makes you a slave again, to fear.
The fear of death is the greatest fear in the heart of man. And if you don’t believe that, just let somebody tell you, you’ve got cancer and watch what happens to you, the fear of death. Now we have been set free from that fear. We’re no longer under the wages of sin, is death. That’s why it tells us that there is now no condemnation awaiting those who belong to Christ Jesus. What is condemnation? Death. There’s no more death awaiting those who belong to Christ Jesus because the law of the Spirit of Life has set me free from the law of sin and death. We’re a child of God. We received this. Spirit of sonship, and Him Jesus, we can cry Abba Father, Daddy Father.
Now, it goes ahead in Romans 8, 15 through 17 to express that the Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit, that we are God’s children. Now folks, it tells us very explicitly that when the Spirit of God comes to live within you, and the Spirit of God Is not an it. It is not a thing. It is not an influence. It is not a power. The Holy Spirit of God is a person. He is referred to as He. We’re told that the Spirit of God that He has feelings. He grieves. The Spirit of God thinks. He has all of the elements of human personality. He thinks, can feel His emotions and a will. The Spirit of God chooses. So, we literally talked about multiple personalities, but we literally have someone else living in us, besides ourselves. We have our own human spirit. And now we have God’s Spirit, God’s Spirit living in us, is to teach this dumb, human spirit of ours, what truth is and then that spiritual transaction that has taken place is sealed. Now is what now begins to influence my soul, my mind, my emotions, my will beginning to teach my mind, control my world emotions directing my will to be in harmony with God.
And so the Spirit when he comes to live within us and we are born again and truly Born Again of the Spirit, it says that that Spirit He testifies with our spirit that we are children of God. And so you say, where does our assurance come from the Spirit of God, living in us testifying that we are His child. If I don’t have that assurance, is it possible that I do not have that assurance because I do not have the author of that assurance and that is Christ Jesus living in me? Now, I’m not saying that that’s the case folks. I’m not here to put you on guilt trips. That’s not my position. My ministry is to teach you who you are in Christ. Not to put guilt trips on you or doubts. And it is not that if Christ is alive living in me, and I’ve been born again that I cannot carry some of that doubting baggage with me. What I am saying is that according to the scripture that if you’re truly born again, the Spirit of God is going to usurp those thoughts and confirm with your spirit, testifying to the fact that you are a child of God. Not just testifying that I am God. I’m testifying you’re a child of God.
I look at the assurance that I have in the midst of the trials and tribulations and Bob through the years, in the midst of falling flat on my face at one time or another, is that assurance, that Bob, you’re my child. I don’t have to stand in front of a mirror and say I’m His child. I’m a child. I’m a child. In order to calm myself into believing I’m His child. That’s human stuff. There is a calm assurance that is inside of us, if indeed we are born again that is constantly testifying to the fact that Bob you’re His child. Because you’re a child, walk into His presence, calling him Daddy Father and receiving mercy in your time of need because you are His child.
You’re totally loved. You may not feel it because you’re not thinking that you’re not realizing. Let the Spirit testify to you that you are His child. Let the Spirit testify that I love you.

John 3:3
3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”
