Classic Christianity – The Book of John P03 (02-08-23)

The Word, Jesus Became Flesh

~ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.” John 1:1-18

Bob George 0:29
Last week, we kicked off this, one of the most famous of all the Gospels, that’s quite frankly, is where I will tell a person who has just come to Christ, to pick up the Gospel of John and study it over and over and over again. It’s not that the other four gospels are not effective if they’re not of God. It’s the fact that John wrote about the love of God. And it’s something that God wants us to know about is his love. The matter of fact, he tells us, does he not that the only thing that counts is faith that expresses itself through love. And Paul became convinced of the love of God that is ours through Christ Jesus. And so the world attacks that religion attacks the love of God and comes out with vengeance and everything else about God except what is truth. And the Gospel of John will build our foundation in the fact that God loves you. Now, we started out, and as John started out, his gospel, in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And so we know something about this passage, there was a beginning for us. And the beginning was the Word of God. Now God existed before He created this place. But when he created this world, how did he create it? by his word, God spoke the world into existence. And so this world came into existence through the spoken word of God. So in the beginning, as far as this world is concerned, in the beginning was the Word of God. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. So we know that the word was with God, and we know that the word was God. Now that can seem to be a contradiction, but it isn’t a contradiction at all. It’s the fact that the word of God was with God. And the Word of God was God, He, the word of God was in the beginning. Now we’re told the through him through the word of God, not just this, people look at the word of God is just the Bible. No, we’re talking about God himself. It was through him, didn’t say through the book, but through him, God, all things were made. And without him, nothing was made that has been made, and in him in God was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. Folks, darkness never does understand light. When you shed the light of truth on a person in darkness, they do not understand it. That’s why it says natural man cannot understand spiritual things. It’s foolishness to him. But what a natural man can understand is there is light, a man, a natural man can understand the light of the gospel. And so he may not understand it, but we can comprehend it. And that’s why you and I are saved today is some time and a point of our lives we apprehended and comprehended that God loved you, and God came to save you. And you responded to that message and became born again. There came a man who was sent from God, his name was John, He came as a witness to testify concerning the light. So the through him, all men might believe through this word. And we are going to learn in a minute, most of us already know who the word is, is Jesus. And so John the Baptist came to testify that through Him, Jesus, all men might believe. He himself, John said, I’m not the light, he came only as a witness to the light, the true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to the into his own, but his own did not receive him. And folks, God came to This earth, Jesus Christ became flesh and entered into this world to his own people, the Hebrews of Israel, and they did not receive him. Now, does that mean that everyone did not receive him? No, because 1000s did receive him. But did the bulk receive him, did the magnitude receive him, did the leadership receive him? Because guys, it starts at the top. And when the leadership begins to see the truth of the gospel, it’s going to spread down, is it not to the rest of the people, the leadership did not receive Him, then the leadership are not receiving him today. He came into his own and refused own received Him not, and yet to all who did receive him. To those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become what? A child of God.

Now, folks, prior to that time, prior to the time that you and I have received Jesus, Are we children of God? I mean, you have people say, Oh, we’re all God’s children. Is that true? No. We were all born in the image of God. Is that true? No, we’re born in the image of Adam. We were, Adam and Eve were created in the image of God. But you and I were born in the image of Adam, lost, as can be in darkness. Born not of God, but of mom and dad. And so he’s going to explain that, these children of God are not natural children, you don’t become a child of God by natural means. So you’re not a child of God, born out of natural descent, your mom and dad cannot give you spiritual birth.

One of our conferees, who is Jewish by natural birth, a very, very wonderful young man from Colorado called any other night of the day about that. And his question was, well, if, if, if your mom and dad are both born again, believers, then when they have a child, wouldn’t they be children of God? You see, the issue on that is that natural man cannot bear spiritual birth, a natural person cannot bear a spiritual being. So when you’re born again, spiritually, you’re not born of natural means. Mom and dad can’t do anything to give you spiritual birth. So it says you’re not born of a natural descent, nor of a human decision. In other words, let’s have a baby, or the husband’s will, I don’t care if you want to have one or not, we’re gonna have one. You’re not born spiritually in that fashion. You’re not born by the normal way of giving birth, physically. But it says, You have to be born of God, you’re born from above, you have to have spiritual birth, that is initiated by God. Two kinds of birth.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I did not come into this world and did not have a clue of this until I was born again at age 36. That there were two births that God is looking for. I knew that I had one I could figure that out, shows the genius that had I could figure out I was born. And I knew when I was born, because Mom and Dad told me. But I had not a clue that there was another birth out there waiting for me. Not a clue. How many of you are in the same boat didn’t have a clue, there’s another birth, never even heard of it? But God in His plan, said there’s two births, you’re going to have a natural birth and a spiritual birth and the natural always comes first. There is no such thing as you being alive spiritually before you were alive physically. Unless you’re a Mormon, and want to believe that you were up there hanging around waiting on a body to indwell. So there is no such thing as being born a spiritually apart from being born naturally. Two births, one from mom and dad, one from God. Now it says that the word Jesus, became flesh in the beginning was the Word the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the word did what? became flesh. Now who is the word? God? What did God do? became flesh. Who was that? Jesus. So who is God? Jesus, now we got it, okay. The Word became flesh, and he made his dwelling among us. And we have seen his glory, the one and only who came from the Father full of what? Grace and Truth [and the law(sarcasam)].

What is Jesus full of? Grace and Truth, Grace and Truth. You cannot separate the grace of God from the person of God. And you cannot separate the truth of God from the person of God. You cannot separate the Word of God from the person of God. His word is a reflection of him. Now, he’s saying that the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us as the only begotten Son of the Father full of grace, and full of truth. Now, it says that John testifies concerning him, he cries out saying, this was the one who I said, He who comes after me has surpassed me or is greater than me, because he was before me. Now again, that’s quite a statement in as much as John the Baptist being a relative of Jesus knew full well that John the Baptist was born prior to Jesus. And yet, so he wasn’t talking about before me and literal age, but he was before me, because he’s always been in existence always been alive. And this is the One John said, whom I said, He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me. And from the fullness of His grace, we have all received. And again, look at this guy’s, because of His grace, we have what? initiated. If anybody out there initiated anything, because of his grace, grace is the initiator, because of him initiating, creation, initiating salvation, we have been able to receive something. Now does everyone receive this? Does everyone receive grace? Does everyone receive truth? Why? Because God gave us a chooser called a will. And God could have gambled when he gave us a will, because the gamble is they’re not gonna listen to me. But the only option that he had in creation, of not giving us a will, is to make a robot out of us. There would be no choice. There are people who believe that that man has no will, that’s nonsense. You make a choice every day of your life, most of them bad.

Bob George 13:23
So we’re given a will, a choice, a willer a chooser. So we have a choice, am I going to receive this grace, this fullness of God that has been offered to me? Or am I going to reject it? But it says from the fullness of His grace, we those of us who are in Christ Jesus, we have received one blessing after another. For, now, what’s the look for he say, he’s gonna give a contrast we have received the blessing of grace. How come? Well if the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ, you didn’t get grace and truth through Moses, you got the law through Moses, but grace and truth came through Christ Jesus our Lord. No one has ever seen God we’re told. You ever you ever seen God? People claim they have.

I remember never never forget as long as I live and Bob Davis won’t either. We’d like to had a conniption fit. We’re in the studio. And we had talked to this guy’s on the air. And he was a little goofy sounding. But, you know, that wasn’t unusual. And so we talked to him for a while and I remember asking him, I said, whatever his name was, have you ever made that discovery of knowing Christ in person? And he just is calm as could be said no, Bob, I really haven’t. But I did see his face in the moon one time. Well, Bob Davis bless his heart, he’s so fun to work with. He started going into conniptions. And then when, of course, when you’re laughing and you don’t know what to do with it, you gotta come up with something to do. So he grabbed his Bible and opened it acted like he is reading it. And I looked over at him. And here I saw this shaking up and down. And I had to complete the that I had to complete about 10 minutes of broadcasting with that going on. But, but some people think they’ve seen God you hear people talking about I saw God. And I saw this and saw that no one’s seen God. And that’s something we can know. And the reason we know that it’s recorded, Jesus said it, no one has seen God has ever seen God. But He said this, but God, the One and Only who is at the father’s side has made him known. Who is God, the One and Only? Jesus.

He said, No one has seen God, but I’ve made Him known. And folks, all that you will ever know or need to know about God has been revealed to you in who? Jesus, Jesus. And he said, When you have Jesus, you have it all. You’ve got all you need to know. You don’t need to seek the Father. Because I and the Father of one. And if you’ve seen me, you’ve seen the Father. You don’t seek the Holy Spirit. Because the Holy Spirit is given to you. You don’t seek a gift. You receive a gift. And when do you get the Holy Spirit? When you get Jesus. There is nothing to seek except him. And that’s why he said, When you have drunk of my blood, eaten of my flesh, you have got it all. You’ve got it all there is, and there’s nothing more to seek. We got people out seeking Father, we got people out seeking Holy Spirit and gifts. He said, you don’t seek Holy Spirit and gifts. You seek Me. And when you have me, you got everything. Now once you got me, it me wants to give you something, I’ll give you something. But you’re not gonna get it by seeking. You’re gonna get something by receiving.

And so no one has ever seen God, except God, the One and Only who was at the Father’s side. Again, the denial of people that Jesus is God here he’s staying but God the one and only who’s at the Father’s side. He’s made him known. Now again, that ties in we talked about that last week as to the Trinity God, the Father, God, the Son, God, the Holy Spirit. We tried to put flesh and blood on God, no one has ever seen God. Why? Because he’s Spirit. And when ever seen a spirit? Probably some claim they have, but you haven’t. You can’t see spirit, a boring human see when you can see the effect of it. But as Jesus later on, says, The Nicodemus you know, where it comes down to where it came from, you don’t know where it’s going. You see the effect, but you’ve never seen it. No one has ever seen God, he’s Spirit. So if spirit, and the Spirit of God dwells in God, the Father, God, the Son, and God, the Holy Spirit, take that apprehend that whether you comprehend it or not, it’s the three in one. I’ve said, it’s like an egg. You got an egg. It’s a shell and a white and a yolk. Which one is the egg? You cannot separate them. It’s one egg. But it’s made up of three parts. That helps with eggs. I don’t know where it helps with God or not. But at least we realized that there’s Trinity all through nature.

Now, it said that was John’s testimony when the Judahites of Jerusalem sent priests and Levites. Now again, the priests were the high priests Levites was the Levitical priesthood. Those were the priests in Israel. So he sent priests and the high priests to him to John the Baptist asked him, Who are you? And he did not fail to confess but he confess freely, I am not the Christ, or I’m not the Messiah. them and then ask him well, who are you? Are you Elijah? He said, No, I’m not. Are you a prophet or the Prophet? No. He said, No, I’m not that either. Finally, they said, Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. The leadership sent us out to find out who you are. Why do you say about yourself? What do you say about yourself? John replied in Word of Isaiah the prophet I’m the voice of the one calling in the desert. Make way the straight wake way the straight of the Lord. Now some Pharisees who had been questioning him said, Why do you baptize if you’re not the Christ or Elijah or the Prophet? I baptized in water, John replied, but among you stands, one who you do not know. And he is the one who comes after me the throngs of who sandals, I am not worthy to untie. This all happened and Bethany on the other side of Jordan, where John was baptizing. And the next day, John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, Behold, or look, the Lamb of God, who does what guys? takes away the sins of the world.

Did he say the Lamb of God who covers the sins of the world? He said, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. The covering of sins was called what? Atonement. The taking away was called propitiation. It’s where God looked down. And the big word propitiation means I am satisfied. The quality of the blood of my Son was such that it took away the sins of the entire world. Atonement could not do that. The blood of bulls and goats could not do that. Atonement has its place in history, but it was replaced by the taking away of sins. Now, when we still hang on to our forgiveness, like atonement, we are putting Jesus blood on the same par as a bull and goat. Atonement, you had to get your sins forgiven. You had to go back next year and get them forgiven again. You had to go back and get them forgiven again. And as it says, In Hebrews, day after day, every priest stands, why did they stand? because our work was never finished, stands and performs their religious duties over and over and over and over again, which could never want? take away sins. That’s atonement. And what is amazing to me is we still in our translations use the blood of Jesus as atonement. But we’re so smart that we’ve come up with our commentaries and said, well, through continual theological usage, it’s become acceptable. So that’s the only thing that makes it acceptable is continual theological usage, even though the continual theological usage is wrong. But it makes it acceptable. That’s how dumb man is. Compared to truth and wisdom from God. Jesus did not come to atone for sin. Jesus came to do something far greater, something that the blood of a bull and goat could never do or accomplish. And that is take away the sins of the world.

Now, let’s turn back to Matthew, the third chapter of Matthew chapter three, in the book of Matthew. Y’all got it. In those days, John the Baptist came preaching in the desert in Judea, and saying, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is here. Now guys, what was he saying to repent of? What did the Judahites believe? That was the way that you got your sins forgiven? How? Going back the Day of Atonement. Allah Catholics believe you get your sins forgiven? Though the confession booth. How the Protestants believe you get your sins forgiven? First John, one nine, altar call, rededicate your life. See, if I had to rededicate the second time it means it didn’t dedicate the first time. All of those things are man made things. They’re not truth.

What you repent of is a belief system that is contrary to truth. Remember, Jesus is full of what? grace and truth. When I’m believing a lie. If I’m going to become a child of the truth, a child of grace, a child of God, I’ve got to repent against the lie that I am believing in order to believe the truth that has been revealed by God through His Son Jesus Christ. Now if I’m still hanging on to what I through the lie that I’m believing, then I have never repented toward the truth that God revealed. Am I right or wrong? When I come to Christ, I don’t hang on to the fact that I’m gonna get my sins and keep my sins forgiven by going to the priest. I’ve got to repent of that nonsense. I’ve got to repent of that. I’ve got to change my mind, in order to repent toward truth that has been revealed, not by some denomination, but by God Himself through the revealed word of God that you and I hold in our hands today. I have to repent of that I gotta change my mind. I grew up believing that I got my sins forgiven by going to the priest and go to confession. I gotta change my mind, folks. And I can’t say I’m saved if I haven’t changed my mind about that paramount issue of Jesus. He died on a cross to take away sins. I’ve got to repent of anything contrary to that in order to be saved. Am I right or wrong? I cannot be a Judahite and say, I’m going to the day of atonement to get my sins forgiven. You got to repent of that. And because they did, and they finally just came in and 70 ad and just took away the temple and everything else that had never been there that said, they still am repented. I’ve got to change my mind. I’ve got to have you had a personal decision that says, I don’t believe that anymore. I’ve been taught that but I don’t believe that anymore. It’s not true. What do you believe? What the Bible says, that has been revealed to me by Christ Jesus himself in the Word of God, I gotta change my mind. Why does he want me to believe? The truth. What is the truth? That Jesus Christ hung on a cross. That there He who knew no sin became sin for me. So that in him I could become the righteousness of God. I gotta change my mind. I have to believe that it’s all Jesus, and none of me.
