Classic Christianity – If God Be For Us – Part 2 – 9-02-25

If God Be For Us – Part 2 – 9-02-25

~ For the gospel reveals the righteousness of God that comes by faith from start to finish, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” Romans 1:17

The way we are to live in Christ is by faith. And when we are exercising faith, it is in times of tribulation that we learn what True faith really is. So when we are suffering things, know that it is for our good, so that we understand the TRUTH of what is really going on. We also have to remember, that we cannot change the past, or the things we have done in the past, and we do not know what the immediate future holds because that is God’s country, so we are to live in the present. This very moment in time that you read this is the present. After you read it, it is the past. So live in the present by faith. Ask God to show you the meaning of things in both His Word and the things of the world, and do not assume you understand things, especially the things of the world, or even the word of God, for there is much deception in the world that most have no clue about, but most write as though they think they know the future as though they are God. Do not dwell on tomorrows, for satan wants you to worry about all the tomorrows. God wants you to focus on the present, here and now. Allow God to guide you in ALL TRUTH.

And keep our focus on Jesus. Jesus is the One that will bring EVERYTHING to right standing before God Himself. For He is God and cannot disown himself. And if a person is in Christ, and Christ is in them, then they are One with Christ Jesus at this very moment in time. And as such, everyone who is a child of God is seated with Him in the heavenly realms right NOW. So place faith in that TRUTH. “And He raised us up together and seated us together in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,” Ephesians 2:6 And so, stand firm in the for sure Hope, that we have in Christ Jesus, no matter what happens in life, because there will be many sufferings in this life.

Romans 8:18-21
18 I consider that our present sufferings are not comparable to the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 The creation waits in eager expectation for the revelation of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not by its own will, but because of the One who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.

Does TRUTH matter? You bet it does. ALL TRUTH matters.

…..

And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone.

~ “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12

~ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one believing in Me, even if he should die, he will live. And everyone living and believing in Me shall never die, to the age. Do you believe this?” John 11:25,26

Pray to God:

Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ “And so when we consider our present sufferings, as it talks about in verse 18, when I consider our present sufferings, they’re not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. So when we stop to think about whatever we’re going through here on this earth, it’s temporary, isn’t it, and a lot of our suffering comes from thinking about all the bad things that are going to happen tomorrow. And my friends, whenever you are thinking about what is going to happen tomorrow, you’re fantasizing. Tomorrow is God’s country, and we’re not to be up there with our heads. And yet I can ruin the only thing that I have, which is right now, the present. I can absolutely ruin my present with a preoccupation about all the bad things that are going to happen tomorrow, and beating myself up with all the bad things that happened yesterday. And when you sit around in self pity about what happened yesterday, you are missing the blessing of today because you can’t live yesterday. It’s gone, isn’t it, and tomorrow’s not here. And that’s like I said, it’s God’s country, and that’s why Jesus said, live one day at a time. Now, guys had Jesus, Jesus come up to you and said, live one day at a time, and meaning physically, your idea would have been, well, Lord, how do you think you could live except one day at a time physically? So he wasn’t talking about physically. There’s only one way you can live one day at a time physically, and that’s to live it, but mentally, mentally, live one day at a time. Forget the past. Quit beating yourself up with what’s happened in the past. Quit speculating all of the bad things that are going to happen in the future, and live one day at a time, praising God for what you do have, instead of the speculation of what you don’t have or what you’re going to lose, or beating yourself up with the woulda coulda shoulda game. And we all play that, and guys, you’re never going to experience joy in the Lord by playing, would’ve, could’ve, should’ve, or by being out in the future, speculating, fantasizing, literally, what’s gonna happen in the future. Live one day at a time.” ~ Bob George

Bob George 0:29
Let’s all turn to the book of Romans. We’re going to start a little before Romans, 8: 28, but so go up to verse 18 with me, if you will. How many of you have had problems? How many of you have problems right now? How many of you if the Lord Jesus Christ, if I could arrange, if that was possible, for him to come and to stand before you next Sunday and you walk up to him. How many of you would think we would go up to him and say, Lord, let me tell you about my problems in comparison to his that he had. I don’t think we’d do it. Much would we? We could. But when you stop to think of what the Lord Jesus Christ went through, and the suffering that he went through so that you and I could be free today, I’d probably be a little embarrassed to talk about my feeble problems up next to his or the Apostle Paul. I’ve often said that it would only take one of those 30 some lashes, and that’d probably be the end to me. God, let somebody else proclaim the gospel for a while. That’s how you feel. You don’t know until you were there, but it just doesn’t pain is not one of my favorite things, and when you stop to think of the pain that he went through, how about Philip? How about the other apostles? How about all of the early Christians that gave their lives and suffered and died, so that you and I can sit here today free. What about the soldiers that are fought in for in armies and in wars that were not brought about by us, brought about by people who wanted to take over the world and dominate the world in which we had no choice to either let them do so or to fight. How about them, the veterans of World War Two, World War One, and even today, in our present wars.

And so when we consider our present sufferings, as it talks about in verse 18, when I consider our present sufferings, they’re not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. Live one day at a time.

We were made by God in such a way. Right whereby our emotions predictably respond to whatever we are thinking we’re talking about today. How do you live free from depression, free from speculation, free from all of these things that attack us? We were made by God in such a way that our emotions predictably respond to whatever we are putting into our heads. Is there any place in the Bible where it says, renew your emotions, or does it say, renew your what? Your mind. Why? Because we were designed again in such a way whereby our emotions predictably are going to respond to whatever we’re thinking. How many of you have ever experienced the emotion of jealousy? What were you thinking? Jealous thoughts. That’s why you were feeling the emotion of jealousy, right or wrong. How many of you ever felt happy? What were you thinking? Sad thoughts, happy thoughts. Got to go to Disneyland. How many of you have ever felt depressed? What were you thinking? Depressing thoughts. Depression is not a syndrome. Depression is not a sickness. Depression is thinking depressed thoughts that produce depressed feelings, not complicated at all. Quit trying to change your feelings and get your mind renewed, and renew your mind on truth that will set you free. The only issue is, where do you have to go to find truth? Reader’s Digest, educational system? I don’t think so. Folks, there’s only one place that I know that I’ve ever found to find truth that could set me free, and that’s right here in this book called the Bible, where Jesus said, You will know the truth, and the truth will what? Set you free, free from what? The error that you’re getting bombarded with in the world. And we can pick up on this error if we if we allow ourselves to, but you’re never going to get cured of these. I just call it stinking thinking, until you get your mind renewed. And you get your mind renewed by having proper attitudes. And so Paul is dealing here with a proper attitude.

What should a proper attitude be when we run into trials and tribulation? Well, he says, I don’t consider my present sufferings are not worth compared to the glory it’s going to be revealed in us. Whatever you’re going through is temporary. Whatever problems you have is temporary. You’re going to someday, in the relatively near future, be absent from this body and present with the Lord. If you live a normal just a normal life at the best, even getting up into 80s, it goes by so quickly that you hardly even notice where your life has gone, doesn’t it? And so the issue is this is temporary down here, in comparison to eternity, which there is such a thing as eternity, this is very small down here, guys at the most, it’s very small years, and it’s not going to last forever. Well, I don’t feel good. Well, that’s I understand that, but it can be temporary. At the best, it’s temporary. So that’s an attitude. He said, Am I going to sit there and get on a guilt trip or get on a pity party? In all depression is self pity. There is no such a thing as a person being depressed that is not engaged in self pity. And the more self pity you have, the more depression you have. And you’ll just see the sequence going down and down and down until ultimately, you can get so pitiful. And what makes you even more pitiful is, if you are having a pity party, you want somebody to come to it, and so you invite your friends. They don’t want to come now you feel more pitiful. No, my friends don’t want to join me in my pity party. You got to realize, my friends, that if you’re going to live above your circumstances, then you’re going to have to get your mind on attitudes that will change your mind and your heart.

You know, it says in the scripture that we’re already seated in the heavenlies with Christ, Jesus. And I tell people sometimes, look down, because in essence, in essence, if we’re already seated, we need to be looking down instead of looking up. Look down on your circumstances from a heavenly persuasion rather than an earthly persuasion. So Paul is saying here. I consider our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us, the creation, He says he’s going to give us some facts, one of the things that you have to deal in life, my friends, is to look at life realistically. In other words, as God told us to look at it. Well, what is realism? The creation waits eagerly expectation, eager in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from the bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. It says, Even nature is messed up, even nature is rotting away when sin entered into the world on the day that Adam fell, even nature fell. And even nature is decaying, and even nature itself is groaning for its redemption.

You go out, Amy and I, Amy did this. Now I don’t know why I put myself in there, but she went out and bought a birdbath, and we filled that up with seed, and then we watched it. I watched it with Amy. She put it up, and I watched it. And all of a sudden, well, I hear these birds came. And all of a sudden, they were fighting each other. They were, they were, they were kicking each other out of the hole down there and get them. They were inside there, flapping around. I mean, really mean. And I felt like going out and saying, Hey, morons, where’d this food come from? Who do you think brought this food for you? There’s more, but they couldn’t hear you. So very sense doing that. But the issue is, that’s what you felt like. But you know what happened? I looked at that and said, That’s just the way we are. That’s just way we are. You see animals. You watch these nature shows. Sometimes they’re sad. You know, you see these cute little animals, and someone’s out there trying to eat it. And nature’s sad. It’s fallen, it’s in a sad state. And we have to realize that not going to last forever. One of these days the lamb and the lion will be lying down with one another, but until that occurs, sad place. So I don’t need to sit around getting sad over the issue. I just need to face the reality that this is reality in life. Creation itself is waiting to be liberated. For we know verse 22 that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as son, the redemption of our bodies. As long as we’re going to be here on this earth, Jesus said you’re going to have tribulation. You believe that, in this world you’re going to have tribulation. So why should we be so shocked when tribulation comes? Well, why should we ever get an attitude that I should never have tribulation because I’m such a nice guy? I mean, you know, people tell me that God loves me, and I say, Well, no wonder I’d love me too sweet as I am. You know, we get some really messed up ideas in regard to how wonderful we are. It’s called self righteousness, how wonderful and self righteous we are. No, you’re not. You’re phony. There isn’t anybody righteous in and of themselves. If we have an ounce of righteousness, it’s God given it to us. It certainly isn’t coming from us. That’s where that phoniness and religion comes in. It’s what turns people away from being in church, because they’re tired of looking at phonies. And the issue is that when you’re in Christ, Jesus, and you know Christ, Jesus is alive in you, you don’t have to walk around phony you can be yourself.

Bob George 14:40
But in the meantime, he says that the whole creation has been groaning in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruit of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we await our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope, we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Now who hopes for what he already has, but if we hope for what we do not yet have, then we wait for it patiently. What don’t we have yet? Eternal life, the eternal, the ultimate, eternal life, where we will be absent from the body and present with the Lord. It’s a dilemma. Paul was in a dilemma in his latter days where he said, I’m in a dilemma. I don’t know which one I want for me to live is Christ. For me to die is gain. I don’t know whether I want to stay here or whether I want to go be with Jesus. Quite frankly, I’d rather go be with Jesus, but if God wants me here, I’ll be here. But it becomes a dilemma, and later on in life, a lot of times your body gets down to the point where it doesn’t function the way it is supposed to function, and you can’t get around the way you used to. Amy’s sisters in that situation in her 80s, cannot get around the way she did, and she’s in a lot of pain and all that type of thing. She wants to go be at the Lord. I remember my mother in her latter days with Parkinson’s disease and unable to speak and withered away down from this absolutely gorgeous woman down to somebody she wouldn’t even recognize. And when I would go to see her down in Austin, I would leave the nursing home and sit in that car and cry like a baby as I thought of how mom had just disintegrated in front of her eyes. I used to pray, Lord, please take her home. Take her home to be with you. And when he did, Mom was absent from the body and present with the Lord. Never to suffer again, never to go through the pains and trials and tribulation again. She’s now free. So when you realize that’s true, you say, well, then anything I go through is just temporary.

And so it says, In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness, we don’t even know what to pray for. How many times have you been in a situation where the stress was such you didn’t even know what to ask God for? How many have you ever been in a situation like that? He says, Don’t worry about it. God will pray for you. So again, there’s an out. There’s times I don’t even know what to ask God for, but that’s okay, God, you know what I need before I ever ask and I can depend on God for that. So we don’t know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit intercedes for us. It says with groans that words cannot express, and He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.

And then we come to verse 28 a beautiful passage of scripture. There’s, again, an attitude. Do you have an attitude that regardless of what happens to you, God will cause it to work together for good? You see, my friends, God doesn’t make good out of bad. He doesn’t make bad good, but he said, I’ll cause it to work together for your good. And that’s a promise that we have, that whatever you’re going through in life, or whatever trial or tribulation that you’re going through in life, God said, if you will trust me, I will work it together for your good. I’ll show you the good connected with that.

I think many times, guys the decisions that we make, and this was when I was getting in college, and when I graduated from from Indiana University. I was in ROTC, when I was there and was getting ready to graduate where I would have gone into ROTC as a second lieutenant, and there was something inside of me that was saying, Bob, enough is enough. I had grown up in a little town in Indiana. My dad was a well known attorney. We lived well. Certainly didn’t live in poverty in any way, shape or form. We were one of the probably wealthier families in that little town. We always had things that we needed and I always were hanging around with all the nice kids. I went to school and to Indiana University. I got in the fraternity and hanging around with all the nice kids and dating all the nice girls and doing all the nice things. And now I was getting ready to go in the army and hang around with the nice officers and with all the nice people. And something inside of me was saying, it’s time for you to crawl on your belly. You don’t need to go in as an officer, go in as a private, go in with just the ordinary folk. Voice, and go in and get to know people and crawl on your belly with the rest of them. And I gave up that commission, and I got drafted, and I went into the Army, and I crawled on my belly, and I learned to shoot a damn one, and I learned to do all the things that you do as a military guy, just as a private, just a, not even a, not even a PFC, just a private, could have been an officer. There was something inside of me saying, Get out there and crawl on your belly.

Well, I want to tell you then after that they were going to send us overseas. I could have gone to Korea. I could have gone to Germany. As it happened, PFC crawl on my belly got sent to Germany. In Germany, I met someone, the name’s Amy, who’s been my wife for 50 years. I’d never met her. I’d have gone in as an officer. Never would have been there. I’d been someplace in the United States, wouldn’t I? Never would have met her. Why was that thing? I didn’t even know the Lord from a spook back then, but you think the Lord’s still leading you? Why was the Lord leading me to give up my commission and go in as a private? Because he knew that there was a little girl over there waiting on me. She didn’t know it, but I did when I saw her. But we wouldn’t have been married today had it not been for that decision. That decision is what the reason, one of the reasons why today we’ve been married for 50 years. Did that decision make any sense? All of my fraternity brothers thought I was nuts. Bob, you’re crazy. You’re giving up a commission to get drafted. You’re nuts. Said, yeah, probably am, but that’s what’s in my heart. And guys, we can trust things like that. That doesn’t happen to all people. I’m not saying it should happen. It just happened for me that God had a plan for my life. There’s a plan. God has a plan for each and every one of us. We don’t know what it is, but we do know what. We need to plug into it, and we need to find out what it is. And many times it’s having a decision like that doesn’t make an ounce of sense, but yet your heart is saying, do it?

Remember the passage of Scripture, delight yourself in the Lord, and what will he do? Give you the desires of your heart. And so when you get this desire, it says, follow up with it. If you’re delighting yourself in the Lord, follow up with it. But God has a plan for you, and one of his plans is that I’ll cause all things to work together for your good. I can look at that and say that certainly is true. Wouldn’t have thought so when I was going through basic training, I thought I’d really thought I’d lost my mind through basic training, but no, said I’m going to cause this to work together for your good. I didn’t know I’d been called according to His purpose at that time. Wasn’t a Christian for many, many years later, had no idea about what it was to be called according to the purpose for God, but he knew. For those God foreknew, who did he foreknow this? He foreknew that I was going to come to him. Still had a choice. It’s not that God chose you. Didn’t choose you, but I had a choice, but God knew what my choice was going to be Now, guys, that’s what’s called foreknowledge, and we can’t enter into that. I say we have no point of reference at all foreknowledge, except just mentioning the name. If I had five minutes of an ability of foreknowledge, I’d be a millionaire in a stock market. Just five minutes is all I’d need on the stock market, and we’d all be millionaires. We have no point of reference, but we do know that God has that ability. Whatever that ability is, is to see all things before they ever happen down here. I can go there, and that’s as far as I’m going to go with that. I’m not going to try to figure that out any further. Have no point of reference on it, but God knew he that he foreknew, and he said, because of that foreknowledge, He also predestined me to be conformed to the likeness of His Son.

Now guys, we’re talking about that on individuals, but the context of this passage is around HEBREWS and Gentiles. From God’s vantage point, there’s only three types of people in the world, the HEBREW, the Gentile and what’s called the ekklesia, or the church, the called out ones. Now, what is the Ekklesia? Or what is God’s church? I’m not talking about this one here or any other denominational thing sitting on the corner of walk and don’t walk. Those aren’t churches or buildings. I’m. talking about what God’s Church is, is made up of people, both out of the HEBREW background and out of the Gentile background. And if you’re not HEBREW background, you’re Gentile, just two categories, as far as God is concerned, HEBREW and Gentile. And out of that, you have come to know Christ is your personal Lord and Savior, and you’ve done so by faith. You haven’t done so by works. No man can ever work himself into heaven or work himself into becoming a child of God any more than you could work yourself into becoming your own child, a child of mom and dad. You didn’t everything do with that that was all them, not you. You just happened to come along. That’s God’s business. But when you’re born again, whether you’re out of a HEBREW background or a Gentile background, you’re a part of what’s called the ecclesia, or the called out ones, both made up of HEBREW and Gentile, slave and free, black and white makes no difference. People who in their hearts have seen a need for salvation, they’ve seen an emptiness. As Pascal said, there’s a God shaped vacuum in the heart of every man that can only be filled by God through his Son, Jesus Christ, thou hast made us for thyself, O God, and our hearts are restless till they find their rest in thee. There’s a restlessness there. There’s an emptiness there. Any person sitting in this room or in the sound of my voice today that’s not in Christ. There’s an emptiness in your life. That’s why you’re seeking something. What you’re seeking is God, but you don’t know it. And that’s why we go out and seek everything under the sun trying to get that vacuum filled. I sought success in business, more business, all that type of thing didn’t work. Could make money, but you couldn’t be fulfilled. Until I came to Christ I was never fulfilled. Successful in business, not fulfilled.
