Classic Christianity – The Greatest Story – Part 3 – 3-18-26

~ “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come!” 2 Corinthians 5:17

~ It’s time to stop playing church. It’s time to make a decision. Have you come to have a personal relationship with Jesus Himself? Do you really know Him? Do you understand what He truly did on the cross for you? Have you really placed Faith in Him, or have you given lip service to the word of God itself? Faith is being sure of something and properly responding to that. “that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.” 2 Corintians 5:19 is the very heart of the gospel message. Place Faith in Jesus, God in the flesh to have taken away all your sins at the cross, so that through Faith in Him that He will make you a brand new creation in Christ Jesus. When that happens in your life, EVERYTHING changes.

…..

And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good, except God alone. Luke 18:18,19

~ “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:12

~ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one believing in Me, even if he should die, he will live. And everyone living and believing in Me shall never die, to the age. Do you believe this?” John 11:25,26

Pray to God:

Do you really want to know the WHOLE Truth of what is going on today?

Lord Jesus, teach me the truth of the world today and give me the wisdom to know the truth and identify the lies of the devil. Thank you God.”

~ “You know whether or not you’ve tried those things or not. You know whether or not you are really in Christ, or whether you’ve just been kind of playing church. And if you have that’s that’s okay, that’s part of the process. But today, if you’ve come to understand that it’s not a religion. It’s just plain, have you accepted what Jesus Christ did for you? He took away your sins at the cross from the eyes of God. Never to see them again. Think about that God will never see your sins again. No man’s sins. He entered into your spiritual death with you and then was raised from the dead so that that life that raised Him from the dead can raise you from the dead to give you life, spiritual life. You already have physical life, but spiritual life. And then it’s told you the promise, I’ll never, ever leave you nor forsake you. And if any man has Christ, he has eternal life, meaning that when you close your eyes for the last time, physically, you will be absent from the body and present with the Lord never will ever experience death again. The decision merely is this, do I want to come alive, or do I want to remain dead? I had a person say to me one time, well, I kind of like to drink. I said, God, isn’t interested in your alcohol. He’s interested in you. He’s not interested in what’s in your hands. He’s interested in your hands. He wants you. He’ll take care of the other. You don’t have to give up anything except your stupidity and your spiritual death, you just give up of trying and start trustin.” ~ Bob George

Now the birth of Jesus happened like this. His mother, Mary, had been engaged to Joseph, but before they came together, in other words, before they had relation, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Now again, like I say, this announcement from the angel of the Lord that, Mary, you’re going to be impregnated. It was not only had I not been with a man, but I haven’t been with my fiance. What’s he going to think? This is a man I love. This is a man that I want to spend the rest of my life with. What is he going to think when I come back after three months with Elizabeth and tell him I’m impregnated by the Holy Spirit? You can just imagine, Sure you are. And I don’t imagine that Joseph, when you read the account, was overly thrilled with this announcement. But Joseph, it says, was a just man. In other words, he was a man of mercy. He was a man who had God’s heart. Do you know, one of the ways that you can tell a man with God’s heart? He has no desire at all to expose he has no desire at all to be a rumor monger. We call him in Christian settings, prayer chains. Where you can rumorize In the name of Jesus, a heart that is there to expose, to cover instead of expose. Here was Joseph. Was a just man, and he said he didn’t want to publicly shame somebody. Somebody has blown it, and let’s let the whole world know about it. That kind of a heart is an evil heart. That’s a kind of a heart that is the very opposite of the heart of God. It’s evil. There’s nothing in it where God belongs. And so he didn’t want to expose her to public shame. Didn’t want that to happen. And so he considered whether he ought to divorce her quietly. Can see this conflict. Here’s a man that’s saying, here’s this young maiden that I love with all my heart and soul, innocent, sweet, beautiful, and all of the things that go with love. She says she’s pregnant, but she says it came from God. And how am I going to know whether it came from God or not? I’ve never heard of a pregnancy coming from God, and so maybe ought to just divorce her quietly. But as he thought about these things, and I think as he thought about him, those things, was this conflict in the heart of what’s right, but I love her, but I love her. And that conflict is in many experiences that we have in this day and age, isn’t it that, yeah, I know what I ought to do. I know I ought to get rid of her, but I love her. And the issue now becomes, can I forgive her, doesn’t it? And that too is out of the heart of God, because the heart that God is looking for is a heart of forgiveness, as the Lord Jesus forgave you. What? So forgive one another.

So he thought about these things, and an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because the baby in her womb is from the Holy Spirit. So this announcement from this angel confirmed what Mary had told him. Now it was coming not from Mary, but from an outside source as well an angel, you have a tendency to listen to them. And so she says she will give birth to a son, and you’re to call him Jesus, and He will save His people from their sins. Last week, we talked about that of how this announcement came, that that your Mary is going to deliver this baby called Jesus, and this Jesus is going to save His people from their sins. And we talk about how he pulled that off and how, through his life now, Jesus, a part of this overall plan, had his own niche, his own plan, and I’m going to come into this world, and I’m going to take upon myself, ultimately, the sins of the entire world, and become a human sacrifice so that my people that I love can have the righteousness of God in them, and to have Christ living in them, their hope of glory. And so as he came, he’s going to save people from their sins. Now it says, all of this, guys, every bit of this happened to fulfill the Lord’s words. So again, you have in the Old Testament the proclamation of the prophecy, and then you’ll have fulfillment. Some of the proclamation that was made in the Old Testament has not yet been fulfilled. Fulfilled. It will be fulfilled when the kingdom of God shows up in visible form, which is during the 1000 Year Millennial reign. And so this all happened to fulfill the Lord’s spoken words through the prophet, Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel, meaning God with us.

Guys, don’t you wonder? I think to myself, as I grew up, there was no time of the year that was more exciting to me than Christmas. Back when I was a child, we didn’t have television. We had those great big old radios. They were big ones, not these little ones, great big old box radios. And that was really the center of the family, and that’s where the family would gather to listen to Amos and Andy and the Gildersleeve and all those well known names today to the young people, but that’s what we did.

And I remember at Christmas that it was listening to Christmas music, and I remember like it was yesterday of the days and days and days of my I would lie in front of that radio and listen to Christmas songs and have the tears streaming down my face as they touched my heart. The words and the music touch my heart. How many times did I hear the song that they will you will call his name Emmanuel, which means God with us. And I did not have a clue that Jesus was God, but I heard it, but I didn’t hear it. You know, when Jesus would say on numerous occasions, if you have ears, listen. You know, well, I got ears, but I’m not hearing. I’m not I’m not hearing, I am not absorbing the truth. And I went through all of my life like that. Up until the age of 36 I went knowing about Jesus, knowing about him, but not having a clue that I could know him not having a clue. Was in church all of my life, I was in church. All of my probably never missed a Sunday that I remember in high school. Now that’s the end of that, but high school. Never heard the gospel. I was in a liberal church. Never heard the gospel. Never heard an explanation of you shall call his name Emanuel, which means God with us, never heard an explanation of that. And I never went to the Bible. I had had Bibles. I could have gone to it, but I didn’t. Had no interest in it. Through college, certainly had no interest in going to church necessarily through college, except Easter and Christmas. That’s like, Well, I always appreciated when I’d go on Easter and the pastor would wish me a Merry Christmas, because that’d be the last time he’d see me. So I was always appreciative of that salutation, but never to know Jesus was never in a church that proclaimed the gospel of Christ Jesus. Amy and I got married, certainly thought our kids needed to be in church, so we took them to church and picked them up too. We tried to do both those things diligently. And I always was diligent. I tell you that I was diligent to always put my dollar in the offering plate. You didn’t catch that my dollar? Yeah, some of you say, how come with that much?

But nothing was ever happening. I had been brought up with the philosophy that success was making money. That’s what success is. Go out and make money, and you’ll live a happy life. Get married, have your picket fence, everything is going to be okay. That was kind of the dream of people coming out of World War Two. As we get rid of this war, there’s a new economy on the horizon, and go out and work and have your home and your picket fence and your kids and everything will be great. And I believed that. But as I proceeded in life and proceeded in the business world and became enjoying certain degrees of success, I found out that that success was very shallow, that what I found was every time that you had a degree of success, you were looking for the next degree. Every time you got this degree, you wanted the next degree. You. Every time you hit this, just go to the next. I can I can remember $12,000 a year being the magic figure back in my days, if I could just make 12,000 bucks a year, man, I’d be in hog heaven. You remember those days? Aren’t any of you old enough to remember those kind of figures? And I remember the day that I hit 12,000 I’m shooting for 24 that day I’m shooting for 24 day I hit 24 I was shooting for 48 and it just went right on up the ladder. Never satisfied. Someone asked Rockefeller one time, how much would it take to make you happy? He said, just a little bit more. And so that’s your life, emptiness inside. Became pretty successful in business. Had my own wholesale distributorship in Los Angeles. And you know the population of Los Angeles, and you know what that can lead to? I had a goal of trying to become a millionaire by the time I was 29 or 30, and I was working on that. And so all of these things were happening. The good things so called. The business was going fine. Amy was taking care of the kids. I was taking care of the business, but I wasn’t paying that much attention to the kids, because I was taught that my job is to put food on the table. And so all of this things start happening. I had my big black Lincoln Continental convertible that was kind of showy. Didn’t mean anything, but it was showy. And you know, you you think you’re just something if you can get one of those. I used to love to put the top down, because the trunk would come up and the top go down. It was really nice. I was real proud of that, real proud of my warehouse. Couldn’t wait for my folks to fly out to California to see me, and first place I took him was to my warehouse. Didn’t take him home. Took him to see him a big warehouse. See how big that is. Then my dad got sick. I love my dad more than anyone on the face of the earth, and he got sick, maybe just dying.

I remember getting in an airplane and to fly back to Indiana to see my dad, and all I wanted to do was to get by the window and don’t talk to anybody. I wanted to be still. I didn’t realize what the Lord said, Be still and know that I’m God, but that’s what he was doing with me. I said, I want you to slow down and quit working, and slow down and be still. And I remember the thought as that airplane took off. It only took just minutes, and I took off from Los Angeles, and where the Los Angeles Airport was I could see down where my warehouse was, and in just a matter of minutes, I couldn’t see my warehouse. It was so small, just disappeared. Those huge buildings just disappeared. Don’t have to go up very high, just disappeared. And I thought to myself, How important are we? All you got to do is to get up in the air just a few 1000 feet and everything disappears. Just how important are we? I got to thinking, I don’t think we’re very important. And it was in that state of two things happening, first of all, getting all the success that I needed, because I knew that more wasn’t going to do anything for me. I figured that out, and then seeing my dad dying of cancer, that was a killer for me. And so as Dad was in the hospital and was extremely ill, he had sarcoma of the throat. Part of the throat had been cut out, and that sarcoma had spread and caused a bowel obstruction. And when you have a bowel obstruction, there’s no option except to operate. And he was so weak that he couldn’t even get water out of a straw. I had to pick him up to move him. And so I knew that dad could not survive an operation the next day, and so I did what is kind of natural for man to do. I went down to the chapel of the hospital, and I said, Lord Jesus, if you’ll get my dad, well, I’ll dedicate my life to you. And I thought, There’s no way God can refuse that offer, he’s got to go with that one. As nifty as I am. I was very humble and and I meant that with all my heart, I really did. I did anything to get my dad well, the next day, I came back to the hospital, and dad was up, shaved himself, and walking up down the hallway, and that mass had gone away, and that my mom said, Well, you know, there was a little minister used to come out here, prayed now that he had something to do with that. And I said, I bet he did too, mom, and I, in essence, said, Lord, thanks for the miracle. Now I’m going to keep going back and doing what I’ve been doing. I was a great committer, but I couldn’t live up to anything. Wanted to couldn’t live up to it.

My dad started getting better, and I started getting worse. And over the next few weeks, and ultimately months, my life was a total wreck. I couldn’t think properly. I couldn’t do anything properly. It was a state of confusion. And one night, we had a big blow up in our marriage, and we came back to the house and turned on the television, and there was a program there that was put on by Campus Crusade for Christ, and I heard a group of young people talking about a relationship with Christ. They weren’t talking about religion, they weren’t talking about church, they were talking about a relationship with Christ. I remember one man by the name of Russ Knipp, who had just won the Olympics in weightlifting, who stood up and said, all my life, I searched for power, and I found it in the person of Christ. Jesus said there’s something different here, something different with these young people than what I’ve been experiencing through my life. And so they said that we could write in for a book, which we did, and they invited us to come out to an open house there in San Bernardino at their headquarters in San Bernardino, California. And so I committed to that, honey, we’re going to go. Well the next day, I was thinking, how am I going to get out of this? And was already trying to plan on how I was going to get out of this. And so we had another blow up, and it was either go out there or go the divorce court. And so I decided that probably make a lot more sense to go out there. And so Amy and I drove out there, and bless her heart, she was always there. Was always there. Broken heart many times over me, but still was always there, and I praised her for that. So went out to college, out to San Bernardino, and there I heard a man talking about Jesus, not religion Jesus, how you could have a relationship with him, how you could know him. I’d never heard anything like this before. It would have taken a herd of elephants to keep me from going down after he finished and talking to him. And I can remember going down and saying to him, Dr. Bright, I’m empty inside. I got money, I got cars, I got swimming pool. We hobnobbed with the Hollywood crowd. Got all that stuff going for me, but I’m empty inside. And he asked me the simple question, Have you ever made that discovery of knowing Christ person? I didn’t know what he was talking about, so I had to say no, and he led me to know Christ. Very simple, made me read the passages of Scripture. Certainly wasn’t his presentation. He didn’t have one, and I had to sit there with a flood of tears reading, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in him would not perish but have everlasting life. With tears streamed down my face. Couldn’t even get the words out and finally asked if I wanted to accept Christ into my heart as my Lord and Savior, and the answer was yes, and on that day, I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior. On that day, just as Jesus, Christ was born physically, 2000 years ago, I was born again spiritually, never to be the same man again. That doesn’t mean I didn’t haven’t made mistakes. That doesn’t mean that I haven’t fallen on my face as I went out and tried, as the HEBREWS did, to live a life that I couldn’t live. So I’ve made my mistakes, but I’ve never been lost. And that’s the beauty of the Christian life. That’s the beauty of this birth, is that Jesus was born physically, so that you and I could be born spiritually.

See that that subject is devoid. We just think this physical is all. There is no it isn’t. We are created by God physically to have spiritual life, and when we don’t have spiritual life, we’re not functioning as a man should function any more than that light bulb can function without electricity in it. It’s a fine instrument. It just can’t function. Amy solidified her relationship with the Lord that day and started a new life together. I remember so vividly of waking up in the morning and our clock radio was set on a Christian station, and Great is thy faithfulness to be playing, and of just pulling Amy into my arms and thinking what I had missed all of my life.

Folks, there is no life that you and I will ever experience like knowing Christ again, guys, this is not a religion. We’re not talking about a place to join. You can’t join Jesus, except for him joining you. This is a reality of life. This is where God looked down upon his creation and said, You can’t do it, guys, you want to, but you can’t do it. And I came to do it for you. I came to give you what you could not give yourselves. It’s a very pragmatic thing. And I said, just as this Jesus, this baby Jesus, entered into this world physically in order to give us spiritual life, we can either accept that or reject it. For 36 years of my life, I had rejected it, the day I’d accepted and everything changed. We’re told in a scripture that if any man be in Christ, he’s a new creation, a new creation. Who am I created by then? God, before I was born, a mom and dad. Now I’m created by God a new creation. Old things pass away, and behold, all things become new. Where are you in your spiritual life? Have you come to the point in your life to come to the end of yourself to realize that, look, I’ve tried all different things. I’m sincere as can be. I’ve tried different religions. I’ve been baptized all every way. I’ve been baptized every way there was to get sprinkled, except hosed out in the front lawn. Didn’t try that. But outside of that, everything was, I’d done all that, I’d been to church, all of those things, but I was, had never been born again. You see, birth has to take place. Physical birth has to take place. Spiritual birth has to take place. And just as I had to be born of my mom and dad, I also had to be born spiritually, of God.

There was a program on the other night Chris Wallace had it. It had a bunch of Christian people on there, at least religious people saying, what, what is, what is a Christian? There’s all kinds of things going on there. But the issue is not what’s a Christian? That’s a, that’s a that’s a religious term, that’s a that’s a term. It says what’s what’s a Christian religion? The issue is, what does it mean to be born again? That’s the issue, not whether you’re a Christian or not, whether you’re born again, whether you have come to be indwelt by the Spirit of God. That’s the issue. That’s until birth comes. Forget about being a Christian, and that’s what all of this is about birth. Christmas is about birth. Jesus is about new birth. And so in your own life, I want you just to analyze your own life. You bounce prayers off the ceiling. Do you feel empty inside? Because guys, if you’re not in Christ, you are empty inside. I don’t care who you are. If I met Donald Trump, I would look at him in the face if I could, if I could stand it, and I would look and. Know, excuse me, and I would say to him, You are as empty as a pork barrel inside with all your money if you don’t know, Jesus, you’re empty. You’re missing something. You’re always looking for something. You’re always trying to do something that will get it, and the it isn’t out there. You know whether or not you’ve tried those things or not. You don’t have to give up anything except your stupidity and your spiritual death, you just give up of trying and start trustin.
