God is Spirit and You Must Worship in The Spirit and in Truth

Marlene called from San Diego, California. She had a question regarding the trinity of God; God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Bob explains that first we need to back up and understand that God is Spirit, and we must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. And let’s not go putting flesh and blood on each one. We have a difficult time understanding the trinity because we want to take three entities and place bodies around each of them. How Spirit exists, we do not know. What we do know is God reveled Himself to us in three persons. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

John 4:22
22 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

And that Truth was reveled to us by Jesus Christ Himself. Jesus made it very clear, and also the teachings in the New Testament make it very clear. So we don’t need to comprehend it but we do need to apprehend it.

It says in the scriptures that there is only one God, and God is one. And yet in the book of Genesis, and the word Elohim used for God is a plural word. What do we read in Genesis, “Let Us go down and confuse their languages.” Who’s the Us? Or, where is states, “Let Us make man in Our image.” Well, who’s the Us? God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Yeah, they scratched their heads on that one. The rabbis didn’t have a clue to the meaning of it, yet they knew that’s what the word of God said. But that was not explained until Christ Jesus came to explain it.

In the scriptures Jesus says, “I’ll raise myself from the dead.” Another place it says the Holy Spirit raised Him from the dead. And another place it says that the Father raised Him from the dead. And still another place is says that God raised Him from the dead. Well, He wasn’t raised four times from the dead. So, God is showing us that He, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit raised Him from the dead.

God, came to this earth, and put upon Himself a physical earth suit (the Perfect Man) and walked down here, enabling us to see what God was like and to teach us how man was supposed to respond to God.

If I were to face you and talk with you in person, the person I am looking at is a body. The body is your house you are currently residing in. But that is not really you. And when you’re dead, the body is still there, but the real you would be gone. So, the invisible part is the real us. The things we can see is just a house. The real you is the invisible you.

And so, Jesus, God took upon Himself an earth suit. Whereas you and I are a man indwelt by God (If we are born of the Holy Spirit). There is a world of difference between Jesus becoming a Man and us being indwelt by God. Jesus humbled Himself and became a Man, and became obedient even to death. That was the physical Jesus. The God Jesus merely left the physical Jesus at the cross. And then went back into that physical body three days later, in order to raise it from the dead. And that was a preamble of what is going to happen to us.

Bob asked Marlene if she had come to a point in her life of knowing Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior.

She said she was a Christian all her life.

Bob mentions to her that no one was a Christian their whole life. Bob explains that a person can be exposed to Christianity their whole life, and that was what he had been exposed to himself, yet he wasn’t born again until he was 36 years of age. So we have to realize just because we may have been exposed to the teachings of Jesus doesn’t mean that you have come to personally know Him and your Lord and Savior. And many times we have know what Jesus did, but don’t have a clue that He did it for me.

Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

For we must believe that God is, and understand that He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him.

At some point in time, you come to realize the emptiness of your life, and realize you don’t really know anything about God. And it is at that time, you get the know the God who Is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Everything has been reveled in Jesus. Sure you can look at nature and see God’s creation, but it is Jesus where we get to know God.

So Jesus came down here, and took our sins upon Him at the cross and He died. Our sins were judged at the cross and He took them for us. Now we need life. And He is the resurrection and the Life. We were all born dead, and most don’t understand that. So once we accept Jesus for what He did for us and the Life He gives us, is when we are born again.

If you haven’t accepted Jesus by faith, now is the time to do it. And if you are born again the Holy Spirit lives in you and as you depend upon Him He will reveal truth to you.


Tom called from Costa Mesa, California. He said he had a drinking problem and didn’t know how to get rid of it.

Bob explains that he doesn’t have a drinking problem, he has a heart problem. It’s not what someone puts into their mouth that defiles a man but what comes out of their mouth. The problem is a heart problem.

Matthew 15:11
11 What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.”

We end up with misplaced dependencies, such as alcohol. We were created to be dependent people, and if we are not dependent on God, then we will put it on to something else. Sometimes as a child of God, we still have a certain area of our life that has a misplaced dependency. In this case, drinking exposes that misplaced dependency. We need to understand that if we are a child of God, then our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. And the reason the bible says do not get drunk with wine, is because that is excess, but instead be controlled by the Holy Spirit of God.

Ephesians 5:18
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

To be filled with the Spirit means to be controlled by the Holy Spirit. And what does that mean? Ephesians 3 tells us to be controlled by the love of God.

Ephesians 3:16-19
16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

We need to trust Christ instead of focusing on ourselves. Sometimes we have unrealistic expectations about ourselves. Try to replace what you are doing with something else God centered. Maybe even reading the scriptures at that time.

Scott called from Denver, Colorado. He had a question in regards to being led into the ministry within his church. He wanted to know what he should do, because it would be a reduction in his pay from the corporate world.

Bob asks Scott if he is married and if his wife is onboard with this. There has to be unity on this front to begin with. If your wife is totally in this, and you are being led by God to do this, then you have to consider all those aspects of things. If this is what God is tugging at your heart to do then follow the Holy Spirit’s leading.


The next caller Casper called from Santa Cruz, California. He wanted to thank Bob for the ministry and shared with Bob that people are growing in Grace and he has been sharing the truth with people. He had a question as to why some people can’t see truth which is so clearly taught in scriptures. He was finding it frustrating facing these types of roadblocks and wondered if Bob had any wisdom to share with him.

Bob explains that there are a number of things that get in the way of people accepting truth. Traditions. Or, even facts, as in don’t confuse me with the facts, this is what I believe regardless of the facts! But you’ve got to approach the word of God with a teachable spirit. Bob had been in the ministry for over 30 years yet he still approaches the word of God with a teachable spirit. Many times people are hanging on to their traditions, and we just have to be patient with people ourselves. Just keep proclaiming truth and maybe someday a person will think, maybe there is truth in that.
