Call-In Classic Christianity Radio – Bob George P1013 (03-07-25)
Praying to God is Talking With Your Best Friend
~ “Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5
~ Once you understand who you are in Christ Jesus, and that nothing can separate you from the Love of God (for Jesus is LOVE), then you begin to realize that He is there with us at every moment of the day for us to talk to Him and ask questions of Him. He is there to teach us, to renew our minds, and conform us to His image. He is NOT there to beat us up, or to take us to the woodshed, or to kick us out of the fellowship when we do a sin, and he is not there waiting for us to ask for forgiveness either, because forgiveness was completed at the cross for everyone, for all sins for ALL time. With that in mind, our prayer life is completely free to talk to Him ALL the time. He already knows what we need. Now He wants to teach us the Truth of the Love of God. Because we have been brought up with many many lies, that we are All learning about. This is where the wisdom of God comes into light. We are to go directly to God for ALL wisdom, because wisdom only comes from God.
So understand that prayer is simply talking with God at all times and responding to TRUTH. And prayer is a two way street. He talks, we listen, we respond by faith, and when we need more things answered or understood, we respond to Him with our questions for more wisdom and more detailed understanding will be given. He is also there to give us comfort in our time of need. And there will be lots of times of need in our lives where we will face trials and tribulation of all kinds. And through it all, he is teaching us about Himself and ourselves also at the same time. For He knows us better than we know ourselves. That’s why the Scriptures say to not lean on our own understanding and be NOT wise in our own eyes. And do not make a mockery of the cross by asking for what He has already done. And don’t sin against the knowledge of TRUTH, of keep on asking for what he has already done. “If we deliberately go on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no further sacrifice for sins remains,” ~ Hebrews 10:26 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and turn away from evil. ~ Proverbs 3:5-7 The New Covenant explains the Old. The New Covenant is what we live under today. When you are trusting in God, you are NOT trusting in yourself. When you are looking to God for Wisdom, you are NOT looking for wisdom in the world. And when you rest in Jesus and His righteousness, then you are Not sinning against the knowledge of TRUTH. The prayer below is a simple prayer to God based on TRUTH:
~
Behold Jesus, the Lamb of God Who Took Away the Sins of the World and the World Includes Me!
Lord Jesus, teach me the TRUTH of the world we live in today and the Truth of You

Bob George discusses the purpose of prayer, emphasizing it as a two-way relationship with God, where listening is more important than talking. He clarifies that prayer is not about manipulating God but communicating with Him. George also addresses the concept of backsliding, explaining that it is not used in the New Testament and that believers are always in Christ. He clarifies that baptism is a spiritual act, not a physical one, and that it symbolizes being placed into the body of Christ. George also refutes the idea that Christians must observe the Sabbath or religious festivals, emphasizing that believers are under grace, not the law.
“Well, Chad, the answer to that is, it would be like saying, why talk to your wife? You’ve got a two way relationship there between God and yourself and yourself and God. And granted, he gave us two ears and one mouth, I think, and really wants us to use that proportionately to do twice as much listening as we do talking. But it would be like if, if you were a high school kid and you had a relationship with a college professor, if you were smart, which one of those two do you suppose to do the most talking? We’re there as Absolutely. We’re there as learners. And the Holy Spirit of God is a counselor. And what do you go to a counselor for? So if we to counsel you to listen to what he has to say and to act upon it, and then to verbalize back to him, the same thing, the same information. So if you if you had a person as an example, you’ll see television programs or something of someone with Parkinson’s disease or something where they sit there, just in a days of some people that are so drugged up they can’t even move, they just sit and stare at you. You can’t have any relationship with them. You’re having to do all the talking. They do no talking. So there’s no relationship. So it is basically prayer. Isn’t anything except talking with God and but before I start talking to God, I want him to be talking to me, and therefore what I verbalize back to him is basically what he’s talked to me.
It says when you’re praying, don’t let anybody know what you’re doing. Go to your closet and pray by yourself. And again, that’s talking to God. I don’t need someone around if I’m talking to God. As a matter of fact, a lot of times it’s a distraction. If I wanted to go and have a conversation with my father, I’m certainly not going to go into the middle of the restaurant and sit down when about 10,000 people are talking to him and try to carry on a conversation with him. And so the issue is that the Father has talked to me through His Word and spoken to me as he does in the small still voice of the Holy Spirit of God, and speaking through His Word, and I communicate back to him again for me to be praying for my needs. What I’m going to pray there is that His will is done and he knows what I need before I ever ask for it. And so it’s talking with God. He’s your best friend. You know you wouldn’t sit there and not talk to your best friend. So that’s why you pray. It isn’t something that I do, to do in order to get, it’s something that you do because you’ve already got.
Yeah, see, we’ve got everything reversed in prayer. We’ve said we’ve got spiritual dyslexia, and we think that with that, our prayer is causing God to do something, and that means that I’m greater than God. If I can cause God to respond to me rather than me respond to him, I’m greater than God, right? And that’s what most of our teachers, yeah, that’s where most of our teaching on prayer comes, is we walk around with this arrogant attitude that I’m better than God, and now I’ve asked him in faith and by golly, you’d better come through God, and God just laughs at us. So there’s there is no response to us. He responded. He initiated everything to us. He initiated creation, he initiated salvation, and we respond to him. And whenever we reverse that, we in essence, are saying, I’m greater than you are, and you’ve got to listen to what I’m saying, and you’ve got to do what I want you to do. And like I say, I think he gets quite a kick out of that.” ~ Bob George
