Classic Christianity – The Book of John P04 (02-13-23)

Jesus Took Away The Sins of The World! Place Faith in The Word of God.

~ It’s time to change our minds about Jesus and what he did on the cross. He took away the sins of the world. Do you believe that? Or are you giving lip service to it? Most people say they believe it, but then they don’t place actual faith in it, for they go back to their confession booth or 1 John 1:9-ing to get their sins forgiven over and over again the same as in the days of the old covenant and the sacrificial system. They call God a liar. We must repent, change our minds on this key aspect of the word of God. Allow the Holy Spirit to renew your mind. Come let us reason together declares the Lord. Share the truth of the word of God with family and friends. The New Covenant and What About 1st John 1:9 are two excellent resources for sharing the word of God with others. ~ John Testifies About Jesus

“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.”” John 1:29-31

~ “He said, No one has seen God, but I’ve made Him known. And folks, all that you will ever know or need to know about God has been revealed to you in who? Jesus, Jesus. And he said, When you have Jesus, you have it all. You’ve got all you need to know. You don’t need to seek the Father. Because I and the Father of one. And if you’ve seen me, you’ve seen the Father. You don’t seek the Holy Spirit. Because the Holy Spirit is given to you. You don’t seek a gift. You receive a gift. And when do you get the Holy Spirit? When you get Jesus. There is nothing to seek except him. And that’s why he said, When you have drunk of my blood, eaten of my flesh, you have got it all. You’ve got it all there is, and there’s nothing more to seek. We got people out seeking Father, we got people out seeking Holy Spirit and gifts. He said, you don’t seek Holy Spirit and gifts. You seek Me. And when you have me, you got everything. Now once you got me, it me wants to give you something, I’ll give you something. But you’re not gonna get it by seeking. You’re gonna get something by receiving.”

Bob George 0:29
So we’re given a will, a choice, a willer a chooser. So we have a choice, am I going to receive this grace, this fullness of God that has been offered to me? Or am I going to reject it? But it says from the fullness of His grace, we those of us who are in Christ Jesus, we have received one blessing after another. For, now, what’s the look for he say, he’s gonna give a contrast we have received the blessing of grace. How come? Well if the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ, you didn’t get grace and truth through Moses, you got the law through Moses, but grace and truth came through Christ Jesus our Lord. No one has ever seen God we’re told. You ever you ever seen God? People claim they have.

I remember never never forget as long as I live and Bob Davis won’t either. We’d like to had a conniption fit. We’re in the studio. And we had talked to this guy’s on the air. And he was a little goofy sounding. But, you know, that wasn’t unusual. And so we talked to him for a while and I remember asking him, I said, whatever his name was, have you ever made that discovery of knowing Christ in person? And he just is calm as could be said no, Bob, I really haven’t. But I did see his face in the moon one time. Well, Bob Davis bless his heart, he’s so fun to work with. He started going into conniptions. And then when, of course, when you’re laughing and you don’t know what to do with it, you gotta come up with something to do. So he grabbed his Bible and opened it acted like he is reading it. And I looked over at him. And here I saw this shaking up and down. And I had to complete the that I had to complete about 10 minutes of broadcasting with that going on. But, but some people think they’ve seen God you hear people talking about I saw God. And I saw this and saw that no one’s seen God. And that’s something we can know. And the reason we know that it’s recorded, Jesus said it, no one has seen God has ever seen God. But He said this, but God, the One and Only who is at the father’s side has made him known. Who is God, the One and Only? Jesus.

He said, No one has seen God, but I’ve made Him known. You’re gonna get something by receiving.

And so no one has ever seen God, except God, the One and Only who was at the Father’s side. Again, the denial of people that Jesus is God here he’s staying but God the one and only who’s at the Father’s side. He’s made him known. Now again, that ties in we talked about that last week as to the Trinity God, the Father, God, the Son, God, the Holy Spirit. We tried to put flesh and blood on God, no one has ever seen God. Why? Because he’s Spirit. And when ever seen a spirit? Probably some claim they have, but you haven’t. You can’t see spirit, a boring human see when you can see the effect of it. But as Jesus later on, says, The Nicodemus you know, where it comes down to where it came from, you don’t know where it’s going. You see the effect, but you’ve never seen it. No one has ever seen God, he’s Spirit. So if spirit, and the Spirit of God dwells in God, the Father, God, the Son, and God, the Holy Spirit, take that apprehend that whether you comprehend it or not, it’s the three in one. I’ve said, it’s like an egg. You got an egg. It’s a shell and a white and a yolk. Which one is the egg? You cannot separate them. It’s one egg. But it’s made up of three parts. That helps with eggs. I don’t know where it helps with God or not. But at least we realized that there’s Trinity all through nature.

Now, it said that was John’s testimony when the Judahites of Jerusalem sent priests and Levites. Now again, the priests were the high priests Levites was the Levitical priesthood. Those were the priests in Israel. So he sent priests and the high priests to him to John the Baptist asked him, Who are you? And he did not fail to confess but he confess freely, I am not the Christ, or I’m not the Messiah. them and then ask him well, who are you? Are you Elijah? He said, No, I’m not. Are you a prophet or the Prophet? No. He said, No, I’m not that either. Finally, they said, Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. The leadership sent us out to find out who you are. Why do you say about yourself? What do you say about yourself? John replied in Word of Isaiah the prophet I’m the voice of the one calling in the desert. Make way the straight wake way the straight of the Lord. Now some Pharisees who had been questioning him said, Why do you baptize if you’re not the Christ or Elijah or the Prophet? I baptized in water, John replied, but among you stands, one who you do not know. And he is the one who comes after me the throngs of who sandals, I am not worthy to untie. This all happened and Bethany on the other side of Jordan, where John was baptizing. And the next day, John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, Behold, or look, the Lamb of God, who does what guys? takes away the sins of the world.

Did he say the Lamb of God who covers the sins of the world? He said, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. The covering of sins was called what? Atonement. The taking away was called propitiation. It’s where God looked down. And the big word propitiation means I am satisfied. The quality of the blood of my Son was such that it took away the sins of the entire world. Atonement could not do that. The blood of bulls and goats could not do that. Atonement has its place in history, but it was replaced by the taking away of sins. Now, when we still hang on to our forgiveness, like atonement, we are putting Jesus blood on the same par as a bull and goat. Atonement, you had to get your sins forgiven. You had to go back next year and get them forgiven again. You had to go back and get them forgiven again. And as it says, In Hebrews, day after day, every priest stands, why did they stand? because our work was never finished, stands and performs their religious duties over and over and over and over again, which could never want? take away sins. That’s atonement. And what is amazing to me is we still in our translations use the blood of Jesus as atonement. But we’re so smart that we’ve come up with our commentaries and said, well, through continual theological usage, it’s become acceptable. So that’s the only thing that makes it acceptable is continual theological usage, even though the continual theological usage is wrong. But it makes it acceptable. That’s how dumb man is. Compared to truth and wisdom from God. Jesus did not come to atone for sin. Jesus came to do something far greater, something that the blood of a bull and goat could never do or accomplish. And that is take away the sins of the world.

Now, let’s turn back to Matthew, the third chapter of Matthew chapter three, in the book of Matthew. Y’all got it. In those days, John the Baptist came preaching in the desert in Judea, and saying, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is here. Now guys, what was he saying to repent of? What did the Judahites believe? That was the way that you got your sins forgiven? How? Going back the Day of Atonement. Allah Catholics believe you get your sins forgiven? Though the confession booth. How the Protestants believe you get your sins forgiven? First John, one nine, altar call, rededicate your life. See, if I had to rededicate the second time it means it didn’t dedicate the first time. All of those things are man made things. They’re not truth.

What you repent of is a belief system that is contrary to truth. Remember, Jesus is full of what? grace and truth. When I’m believing a lie. If I’m going to become a child of the truth, a child of grace, a child of God, I’ve got to repent against the lie that I am believing in order to believe the truth that has been revealed by God through His Son Jesus Christ. Now if I’m still hanging on to what I through the lie that I’m believing, then I have never repented toward the truth that God revealed. Am I right or wrong? When I come to Christ, I don’t hang on to the fact that I’m gonna get my sins and keep my sins forgiven by going to the priest. I’ve got to repent of that nonsense. I’ve got to repent of that. I’ve got to change my mind, in order to repent toward truth that has been revealed, not by some denomination, but by God Himself through the revealed word of God that you and I hold in our hands today. I have to repent of that I gotta change my mind. I grew up believing that I got my sins forgiven by going to the priest and go to confession. I gotta change my mind, folks. And I can’t say I’m saved if I haven’t changed my mind about that paramount issue of Jesus. He died on a cross to take away sins. I’ve got to repent of anything contrary to that in order to be saved. Am I right or wrong? I cannot be a Judahite and say, I’m going to the day of atonement to get my sins forgiven. You got to repent of that. And because they did, and they finally just came in and 70 ad and just took away the temple and everything else that had never been there that said, they still am repented. I’ve got to change my mind. I’ve got to have you had a personal decision that says, I don’t believe that anymore. I’ve been taught that but I don’t believe that anymore. It’s not true. What do you believe? What the Bible says, that has been revealed to me by Christ Jesus himself in the Word of God, I gotta change my mind. Why does he want me to believe? The truth. What is the truth? That Jesus Christ hung on a cross. That there He who knew no sin became sin for me. So that in him I could become the righteousness of God. I gotta change my mind. I have to believe that it’s all Jesus, and none of me.

Bob George 13:28
So you don’t say I become a Christian, but I’m still going to my Day of Atonement. I become a Christian. I still go to my priest, to the confession booth. I become a Christian, I come down and greet dedicate my life every Sunday. And I keep short accounts with God. I keep short accounts with God. I’m the initiator he’s the responder. That true?

There’s a lot of peoples who with their mouth are saying I’m a Christian, who have never repented. John the Baptist was saying to us repent, the kingdom of God is near. There’s a New Covenant that has been ushered in it will be ushered in at the death of Jesus, be prepared for this. Get your mind changed. There’s a voice I’m the one who’s calling in the wilderness, Prepare the way for the Lord and make straight paths for him. It says of all of this, he identified him as a Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. So again, back to chapter three, John the Baptist game preaching in the desert in Judea, and saying repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near. This is he who has spoken through the prophet Isaiah the voice of one calling in the desert, Prepare the way for the Lord and makes straight his paths. John’s clothes were made of camels hair and he had a leather belt around his waist and His food was locusts and wild honey. People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan, confessing their sins. They were baptized by him into the Jordan river. What were they doing? They were confessing their sins. He’s saying there’s one coming, who’s greater than all. Change your mind. Put your faith in him. He’s here, the kingdom of God is here. Change your mind and repent. The kingdom of God is here. Baptism was a way of identifying people. It was a cleansing. It was something that took place in Hebrewism before Christianity ever came along. That cleansing baths and that type of thing was a part of tradition. And he was merely saying, Come and cleanse yourself of all by by identifying yourself, baptizing yourself submerging yourself in this New Covenant that is coming into place, leave the old behind and become a follower of the new.

Now when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them, You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Produce fruit in keeping with repentance, and do not think that you can say to yourselves, We have Abraham as our father, I tell you, that out of these stones, God can raise up children of Abraham. The axe has already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. I baptize you in water, for repentance. But after me, will come one who is more powerful than I whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He This is Jesus will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. His winnowing fork is in his hands and he will clear the threshing floor gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire. Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John But John tried to deter him said, I need to be baptized to you, why do you come to me? And Jesus says, Let it be so now it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness. Then John consented. And as soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. And at that moment, Heaven was open up and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting on him and a voice from heaven said, This is my Son, whom I love with him. I am well pleased. Why did John the Baptist come baptizing me are baptizing? Back to John 30. Let’s go back again. In John 31, or chapter one, verse 30. He said, This is the one I meant when I said a man comes after me who has surpassed me because he was before me, I myself did not know Him. Now, it isn’t the fact that John Baptist did not know Jesus. They were cousins. But I didn’t know that he was the Messiah. But the reason I came baptizing, now catch this guy’s. Why did John the Baptist baptize? And why did Jesus allow himself to be baptized? Now you will have people who believe in baptismal regeneration, who believe that you’re saved by getting dunked in water. Nothing could be farther from the truth. If baptism can save you, Jesus cannot. Well, Jesus was baptized. That’s the argument. Well, let’s find out why he was baptized. And let’s find out why John Baptist, the Baptist baptized him and why he allowed himself to be baptized. If you look in the Scripture, it’ll tell you. I myself did not know him. But the reason I came baptizing with water, this is John the Baptist. The reason I did this was that he might be revealed to Israel. Then John gave this testimony testimony I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. I would not have known him except that the one who sent me to baptize who was that? Who sent, John the Baptist to baptize? God, the One who sent me to baptize with water told me, the man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain, he is he who will baptize with the Holy Spirit. I have seen and I testify that this is the Son of God. You could have said, on the one you see the Spirit come down and remain is the Son of God. And the next day John was there again with two of his disciples. Now why did John the Baptist come baptizing? To identify By the Messiah to Israel. If John the Baptist did not know that Jesus was the Messiah, how would we expect the rest of the people to know? But John the Baptist was told by God, that the one on whom you see the dove descend and remain, this is the Messiah. Can you imagine the excitement of John the Baptist ministry. Every time you baptize someone. Is this the one? Is this the one? Could this be the one? Maybe this time? This is the one. And that is exactly precisely why when the Pharisees came down, he said, What are you guys doing here? You bunch of whitewashed sepulcars, for darn sure you’re not the Messiah. That’s why he came baptized? Why did Jesus allow himself to be baptized, so that he could be identified as the Messiah, I’m gonna have to fulfill the righteousness of God. This is the way that God chose to reveal me to the nation of Israel. No big deal wasn’t doing it to get cleansed. He wasn’t unrighteous. He did it to fulfill the promise of God. Are we together on that? And yet people will take that, and make it to mean everything under the sun except what it means.

Now, let’s go back when he saw Jesus passing by, and he said, Behold the Lamb of God. And when the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus, started following him, if John the Baptist has identified this man as the Messiah, and as the child of God, I’m gonna follow him. Turning around, Jesus saw them following and ask, What do you want? They said, Rabbi, which means teacher, where are you staying? Now folks Rabbi does mean teacher, but to be a rabbi, from my understanding, you had to be taught to be a teacher. And you were taught in the rabbinical schools of Israel, one in Jerusalem, and one in a place called Sepphoris. Sepphoris was in Galilee, located right across the valley from Nazareth, just across the valley, it was a booming city, it was a metropolitan type of city compared to Nazareth, which was farmed land. We know now from history, there was a terrific amount of construction that took place back in those days in Sepphoris. We also know that there was a rabbinical school in Sepphoris that was headed up by Eli, which is Mary’s father. He was the head priest, the head rabbi, at the rabbinical school, to rabbinical schools in Israel, Jerusalem, and Sepphoris. There is also speculation that because of this being a booming metropolitan area for the for that day, population possibly of over 100,000 people that there was a terrific amount of construction that took place, which also would have provided a lot of work for a carpenter and his son. And so there is today a lot of work being done to support the fact that Jesus in the silent years where we do not hear anything from him from age 12, until he began his ministry of about 30, we’re told, his silent ears, are they not? That where he was, was in rabbinical school, which is that those are the ages that you’re in rabbinical school, and that he would have been in rabbinical school with his grandfather as the head of it across the valley from Nazareth where He was born and raised. Now we do not know that factually. But we do know factually about Sepphoris we do know factually about the rabbinical school, we do know that Elie was the head of that school. We do know that that was Mary’s father. And we do know that Jesus is called what Rabbi. And so there is a lot of speculation of the fact that that is what took place, although it is speculation because it’s not recorded in the scripture. But the more excavation that is being done, the more people are finding, I think one of these days it’ll get verified. We’ve have been there.

Now they call him Rabbi, teacher. Where are you staying? Come, He replied to you’ll see, so they went and saw where he was staying and spent the day with him. And it was about the 10th hour. Andrew Simon Peter’s brother was one of the two who heard John who said that he had that who had follow Jesus. And the first thing that Andrew did was to find his brother Simon, and to tell him we found the Messiah. And so that’s the most logical thing in the world. Andrew’s saw this man who John said, is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. He believed him. And he went to get his brother and said, I think we found the Messiah. And well he brought him to Jesus. And Jesus looked at him and looked at Simon, and he said, Simon, son of John, or Simon’s bar, Jonah, you will be called, From now on Cephas, which when translated is Peter, changed his name. The next day Jesus deciding to leave for Galilee finding Philip he said to him, Follow me Philip, like Andrew and Peter was from the town of Masada. Philip found Nathaniel and told him we found the one Moses wrote about in the law, and about whom the prophets also wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. Nazareth, can anything good come out of there? Now there again, was these pre supposed ideas, because that was kind of farm community. Can a thing come good out of there, Nathaniel asked? Well, I thought his answer was great. Come and see, you know, let’s not get in all this kind of nonsensical argument. Why just come and take a look for yourself said Phillip. Now, when Jesus saw Nathaniel approaching, he said to him, here is a true Israelite. He identified Him in whom there is nothing false. Here’s a guy without guile, he identified him. Nathaniel obviously agreed with him. How do you know me? Nathaniel asked, and Jesus said, I saw you while you were still under the fig tree Before Philip called you. And then Nathaniel declared Rabbi, You are the Son of God, you are the king of Israel. And Jesus said, You believe because I told you that I saw you under a fig tree, you shall see greater things than that. And then he added, I tell you the truth, you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man, and Jesus once again identified himself as who he is. God.
