Classic Christianity – The Book of John P13 (03-06-23)

Jesus Gives Living Water to All Who Place Faith in Him!

~ “When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,) He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee. And he must needs go through Samaria. Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.

There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. 8(For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Judaean, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Judaeans have no dealings with the Samaritans. Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:1-14

~ “John the Baptist dunked in water. Now John the Baptist says that I baptize you with water, but one coming after me who sandals that I’m not worthy to untie will baptize you what? with the Holy Spirit. Now the issue is what does that mean? When you are born again, the Scripture tells us that when you are born again, the Spirit of God comes to live in you, that’s Christ in you. And in Romans it says, without the Spirit of God living in you, you don’t belong to Him. So you could not be born again, unless you’re born again, of the Spirit. That’s why he says, I give the Spirit without limit. So when you’re born again, is when the Spirit of God comes to live in you, that’s Christ in you your hope of glory. And then the Spirit of God baptizes, or places you into the body of Christ, that you in him, Christ in you, you in him, you have been placed, baptized into the body of Christ. Now that means that when you’re born again, you’re a part of his body, are we together, there’s only one body and yet the body is made up of many parts. And those parts are many forms what? one body. That’s the baptism of the Holy Spirit. That’s what Peter said, is the baptism that saves, not being dunked in water. But being placed spiritually that only Jesus can do, spiritually placing you into his body. That’s why he said, I’m going away, my body is going away. But he said to his disciples, it’s good for you that I’m going away for when I go, I’m going to send my Spirit into you, and you are going to be my body. That’s why folks, the body of Christ is all over the world. At the same time. When Jesus was here on Earth, the body of Christ was confined to Israel, wherever Jesus was, that’s where the body of Christ was. But he said, it’s good for you, I’m going away. Because when I do, my body is going to be all over the world at the same time, with my spirit living in you, which is your only hope of glory.”

And so really what people are saying is you got to join my church to be saved. And nothing could be any more heretical in teaching than believing that your church saves anybody or our church saves anybody. We can’t save anybody. And yet there are people who believe in baptismal regeneration, but they don’t believe in baptismal regeneration. They believe in baptismal regeneration in their church, by their pastor, in their waters. Jesus didn’t baptize anyone the reason he didn’t I believe with all my heart and soul is because it’s like Jesus said anything in baptism saves anybody when I’m going to do only I can do. John the Baptist dunked in water. Because when I do, my body is going to be all over the world at the same time, with my spirit living in you, which is your only hope of glory.

Now, folks, nothing has changed. You have professors and you have possessors. You have people who have truly come to know and to understand the truth of Jesus, the Messiah, the God who we study in our scriptures, and then you have people who follow other doctrines that sound very close, sometimes even use the name of Jesus. But remember what Jesus said that to people come to him and say, Don’t you man, did you see the miracles? I did? And don’t you see all the things that I did? He said, I don’t know who you are. I don’t know you. I know you’ve been doing a lot of stuff out there. But I don’t know who you are. You’re not mine. You don’t belong to me. Well, did you hear me speaking in tongues? Yeah, I heard you. You’re not one of mine. Well, did you see me do miracles? Yeah, I did. Not one of mine, not my miracles. Remember what he said. In John, we studied earlier, they believed in his name, but Jesus did not entrust himself to them. For he knew man, and he knew what was in a man and he did not need the testimony of man concerning man. Remember that? There’s only one person in this room. Who knows for sure you’re saved, that you. And you also know whether you’re not saved? That you I don’t know, you look saved to me. I hope I look saved you sometimes. But the issue is, there’s only one person that knows for sure. And that you, you know for sure whether you have bent your knees to God and said, Lord, if apart from you, I’m not going to get to heaven. And my whole my whole dependency on my leaving this earth and going into Your presence is on you. It’s not on my church. It’s not on what I’m doing for you. It’s totally upon you and you alone, as to what you have done for me. I didn’t deserve it. I didn’t earn it. But I’m sure accepting it. Because if you’re not it, I ain’t going. It’s that simple isn’t it guys, if Jesus if you’re not the one, then I won’t be there, period. In fact, if you’re not the one I don’t even want to be there. That’s the kind of dependency that you got to have in your heart to be born again. It’s not Jesus plus, getting dunked in water, or Jesus plus speaking in tongues, or Jesus plus going to church or Jesus plus anything? Whenever you add to Jesus, you subtracted from Jesus. It’s Jesus period. He’s God’s gift God sent him to tell us what God said, This is God’s testimony concerning his Son, that He’s given us eternal life. And this life is any Son. It’s not in the water. It’s in his Son. And he who has the Son has life, and he does not have the Son of God is dead as a hammer. That’s a little paraphrase there. You’re dead. And these things I’ve written to you believe in the name of the Son of God, know that you may want hope? No, KNOW. And it says, if you are born again, the Spirit of God testifies with your spirit that you’re a son of God. You don’t have to ask people who do you really think I am. Your Spirit testifies. And if you don’t have a spirit testify that you’re a son of God, you got a problem that can be solved like that. And that is just accepting the truth of what Jesus came to do for you through His death, and His burial, and His resurrection.

Now such was the case in Samaria. Now, we know that Jesus had said, had to go through Samaria. Now, folks, they’re in and of itself is somewhat of a problem, because the Hebrews really tried to avoid Samaria in any way that they could, as a matter of fact, when they would be going from Galilee down to Jerusalem for Passover, they would go miles and miles out of their way in order to go around Samaria, rather than going through it. The Samaritans hated the Hebrews and the Hebrews hated the Samaritans. The Hebrews looked at the Samaritans as a bunch of half breeds. They looked at people that brought in other people from other nationalities and call themselves Hebrews and Samaritans. They hated them. There had also been wars in the past in which the Hebrews had gone in and destroyed Samaria. And then their leadership and they were hated for this. They were hated people on both sides hated by the Hebrews, this hated Samaritans and the Samaritans absolutely detested the Hebrews. And so Jesus went through Samaria. And he came to this town in Samaria called Skylar. Near a pot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph, and Jacob’s well was there we’ve all heard of that, and Jesus, who in his humanity could get tired, and he was tired from his journey. It says that he sat down by the well and it was about the sixth hour. When the Samaritan woman came to draw water. Jesus said to her, will you get me a drink? His disciples were told had gone out to the next town to buy food. The Samaritan woman said to him, you’re a Hebrew and I’m a Samaritan woman. How can you asked me for a drink for Hebrews don’t associate with Samaritans are Another translation says they don’t drink out of the same cup. In other words, they wouldn’t use a dish that a Samaritan had used. That’s the hatred guys that was there. If you’ve even touched a cup, I’m not drinking out of it. If you’ve eaten off of a plate, I’m not eating off of it. That’s pretty strong, hated. But that was the case. And so she’s saying, Look, you’re a Hebrew, I’m a Samaritan. How are you going to ask me for a drink? Jesus answered her. If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water. You kind of wonder whether this was kind of sarcastic what she was saying or whether she is really curious here. She said, Sir, the woman said you have nothing to draw with. And this well is deep. Where can you get this living water? How you gonna get it out of here? See, she was thinking, a well, how are you gonna get out of there? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his flocks, and he’s herds. And Jesus answered, Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again. Anyone who digs into this water well full of water, you’re gonna drink, but you’re gonna get thirsty again. Is that right? You’re always gonna get thirsty. Now, here’s something that he says but here’s the contrast. whoever drinks the water that I give him. He will never thirst. never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life. Well, the woman said to him, in essence, well, if that’s the case, Sir, give me this water so that I will get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water every day. Now guys there again, Jesus is speaking of a spiritual truth, is he not? And we’re thinking in a physical realm. He came from heaven. He’s bringing down information from heaven. He’s communicating information from heaven about himself, that when you drink my water, you’ll never thirst again.

Now, I wonder sometimes why people say that I have drunk from Christ Jesus. And yet I’m seeking something else. And you have people who say, Oh, yeah, I’m born again, bro, I want the spirit. Or oh, I want to find the Father. Or I want to find something. I don’t care what I find, just want to find something. I want an experience. I want to feel something. We ever do that ever have that ever seen people like that? I want to feel something. I want proof. I want to get sick so I get healed, get proof. Just do anything to get me some proof. And folks, Jesus is saying if you’ve drank my water, you wouldn’t be thirsty like that. I don’t know whose water you’ve been drinking. But it didn’t mind. And I believe that with all my heart, when you have tasted the living water, there is nothing to thirst over again. There is no one to seek. You don’t seek the Father. Jesus said when you’ve seen me, you’ve seen the Father. You don’t seek the Holy Spirit. There is nothing to seek. He lives in you in his fullness. There isn’t a thing to seek when you already got it. I don’t sit around seek my stomach trying to fill it but I don’t seek it. You don’t seek your heart. You don’t seek your eyeballs. You already got him. When you’re in Christ Jesus, you have been given what? every thing that you need for life. And for godliness. There’s nothing else to seek. That’s what Jesus is saying.

Bob George 14:10
There’s nothing else to see when you have drunk of my water, you will never be thirsty again. He didn’t say when you’ve drunk my water. You might get a little thirsty later, but not a whole bunch. He said you will never be thirsty again. The water that I gave him will become in him a spring of water. It’s a spring it wells up to eternal life. And the woman answered properly. She said give me that water. I still don’t think she knew what he was talking about. But if you got that kind of water, give it to me. Well, he told her he said he said go and tell your husband and come back. And she said I don’t Have any husband. And Jesus said to her, you’re right, when you say that you have no husband. The fact is that you’ve had five husbands, and the man that you now have is not your husband. So what you have said is quite true. Five husbands, was he talking to Liz Taylor, who was talking to here? That’s a lot of husbands. Now, you will notice folks here also that Jesus didn’t say, you have had five husbands. You’re living in adultery. Because if you’re divorced one and got the other, you’re doomed for life. You’re a scumbag par excellence. I don’t know why I’m even bothered to talk to you. Did he say any of those things? To you? Did Jesus say I didn’t come to condemn the world? Did he say that or not? Did he condemn her? Where’s the condemnation here, guys? We are talking about? This poor thing couldn’t have gotten in any church in town. Let alone be a deaconess. As a marked woman, five husbands and now living with some body, no wonder she live in within what would you want was six?

Was it right? Was its God’s will for this woman to have five husbands? No. Was it God’s will that she should be living to someone who’s not her husband? No. Isn’t that why Jesus came to the earth was to save people who have committed sin? Is that right or wrong? He’s not saying that I think it’s right what you did. But what you’ve done, you’ve done. And I’m going to a cross the put that sin behind my back never to see it again. Or is divorce the unpardonable sin? As some people almost think? Was a God’s will that we should sin? Was it God’s will that his creation should die? No that wasn’t God’s will. But when sin entered into the world did not all those things take place? Death entered into the world, divorce entered into the world, sin entered into the world, all kinds of things entered into the world. Did it not? That’s why I had to come and die for us. The only people that Jesus could die for are sinful people, he can’t die for good people. There aren’t any.

And so I read this thing, I see no condemnation at all in Jesus, he just said, I’m just telling you about yourself, go call your husband. I don’t have one. You’re right. You don’t have one, you’ve had five. And the man you’re with now is not your husband. So what you’ve said is quite true. Sir, the woman said, I can see that you’re a prophet. Our father, she said, she’s got to kind of change the subject here. She’s wanting to get off of this subject. As soon as she can. Said I can see you’re a prophet and our father’s worship. Can you see again, guys, how we, how we do things when you’re confronted with something many times you try to change the subject, you’re trying to get off on another subject. She said, I can see you’re a prophet, our fathers worshipped on this mountain. But you Judeans claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.

Now, folks, back in those days, again, it’s just as David, on behalf of the tribe of Judah, had established a sacred site at the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, just a David had established that. So the forefathers of their people, the Samaritans, a person by the name of Omri, which you can read about in First Kings. Omri had established a sacred site and a temple for his tribe, on Mount Gerizim or Gerizim, which is right close to the city that she’s talking to. It’s near Shechem, about 30 miles north of Jerusalem. So there’s a mount there, it’s a mountain. And history says that a temple was built there by Omri. And that’s where the Samaritans went to worship just like the Hebrews went to Jerusalem to worship. And so that’s the history behind this statement, that you can see that you’re a prophet but our fathers worshipped on this mountain. Now, were they worshiping? Yes. Whose God were they worshipping? We don’t know for sure. We don’t know for sure. They may have been worshipping the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. But with a totally different set of rules, we don’t know for sure. We do know that the Hebrews were worshipping the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in Jerusalem. So she was saying and given his contrast that our forefathers worshiped on this mountain, But you Judaeans claim that the only place where you can worship is in Jerusalem. And I look what Jesus declared, believe me, woman, he said, a time is coming when you will worship the Father, neither on this mountain or in Jerusalem. It’s not where you worship, it’s who you worship. You Samaritans worship, it says, what you do not know. We worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Judaeans. Now Jesus established the fact that salvation is from the Judaeans. Salvation came through Jesus Christ who was Judaean. That’s why I had to laugh at people talking about the film of Mel Gibson’s being anti semitic say when he been anti semitic, it was Judaeans killing Judaeans, how could it be automatic? It’s a picture of Judaeans killing Judaeans, or anything anti semitism and not at all. It’s just mere historical truth that Judaeans were killing Judaeans. They didn’t like what Jesus was saying. The Judaeans didn’t like what the Judaean Jesus was saying. So he said, salvation is from the Judaeans, but it’s not where you worship. It’s how you worship. Yeah, the time is coming and has now come, when true worshipers now there again, is back to true worshipers. A true worshiper has to worship a true God, not one your makeup. But a true God. Is a Jesus that was not born of a virgin. Is that a true Jesus? Is it guys? That’s not true JESUS. is a God who was once a man to elevate it himself to the position of being God? Is that a true God? No that’s not a true God’s made up one. Is a Jesus who did not take away all the sins of the world, but just took away some of them. Is that a true Jesus? No. So he’s saying that if you’re going to worship, you’re going to worship who you know, you Samaritans are worshiping who you don’t know. You don’t know.

Now, folks, think about it for a moment. How many of you in your life went to church? And I realized that wasn’t much worship connected with it when we what we think of as worship but went to church and claimed to have a faith in Jesus but you didn’t know Jesus from a flagpole? You see your hands on that. Mines included on that. I didn’t know Jesus who in the world he was the Son of God. What’s that mean? I don’t know. Maybe God had a baby. I don’t have a clue. Yet what didn’t want to didn’t want to get that deep. I was 3000 miles wide and a quarter inch deep, didn’t want to get a deeper they were and how many of you are in that same boat? You sat there? And you said, Yeah, I believe in Jesus, I believe in a blank and George Washington, Jesus, I believe in all those guys. That’s the Samaritans. They did not know who they were worshipping. But we worship who we do know. Yet he says, a time is coming and has now come. When true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and in Truth. For they’re the kind of worshipers that the Father seeks. God is what guy’s? Spirit, and you must worship Him in what? Spirit and in Truth. Remember, in the book of Hebrews, where it talks about the Hebrews in chapter 10, sinning against the knowledge of what? Truth. Remember in John talking about the letters going to the woman who is steeped in truth, and when we have the truth, the truth will be in us forever. Jesus identified himself as the WAY and the TRUTH. You cannot separate separate truth from Jesus any more than you can separate grace from Jesus. God is Spirit and you You must worship Him in Spirit and Truth. The reason some people have great difficulty with a trinity is because they tried to put flesh and blood on spirit. You can’t put flesh and blood on spirit. How the spirit exists is the spirits business we don’t know. All we know is he’s manifested Himself to us as God, the Father, God, the Son, God, the Holy Spirit. And that was not known to anyone until Jesus came to explain it to us. Like a little Hebrew boy, one time came up with something. When he were talking about the Trinity. He thought there for a minute, and he said, Yeah, he said, I kind of got it. He said, It’s like taking a three prong four, and sticking it down through a piece of cardboard. And he said, you look at it from this angle, it looks like one four. You look at it from this angle, and it looks like three prongs. But the three prongs equals one, fork. I thought it’s pretty good insight, as to the Trinity, how God exists spiritually. We don’t know, we don’t know what a spirit looks like. We don’t know what to do. We don’t know anything about spirit except what was revealed to us in Christ Jesus. But we do know that God is Spirit and you must worship Him in spirit and in truth. The woman said, I know that the Messiah called Christ is coming. And when he comes, he will explain everything to us. And Jesus declared to her I who speak to you, am he. And he identified himself to this lady, as the Messiah that obviously the Samaritans knew about and studied about. They just didn’t know him. But they knew about the Messiah. And they knew that when the Messiah comes, that he’s going to explain everything to us. And Jesus said, I’m that Messiah. When Jesus identified himself to us as the Messiah, he identified himself to us as God, the Prince of Peace. He identified himself as the one who would come and take away the sins of the world.
