The Work of God is to Believe in Jesus

~ Then they inquired, “What must we do to perform the works of God?”

Jesus replied, “The work of God is this: to believe in the One He has sent.” John 6:28,29

~ There are numerous people today that come up with all types of doing good works requirements for being saved, and yet when you question them, what are the good works that must be done to be saved? They have no answer. The legalists love using this doing good works argument to point out to others, you’ve got to do “good works” in order to be saved. Okay, if that is the case, how many and what are they? Most of the time you will get silence from them when you question them. Other times they will quote Scripture out of context, and repeat something from the book of James, James 2:20-26 yet will never provide the examples of works represented in the book of James itself.

Bottom line, there is only one work required to be saved, and it is the work of God, and that is to believe in Jesus. God draws all men to himself. Then a person exercises Faith and places trust in the faithful One of God, Jesus God in flesh, to have taken away all their sins at the cross. Doing the work of the ministry is sharing Jesus to people. That is the greatest of all works to be done. And that is through the leading of the Holy Spirit, living in the true believer.

Guess what folks, Jesus is a lot lot closer than most imagine. For if you are in Christ Jesus, He lives in you and wants to use you for His good purpose, to share TRUTH with others. Have you not felt and heard the calling of the Holy Spirit in your life? Have you not seen things that cause you to ponder? And ask questions, what does it mean? Do we ponder on the word of God, and ask God, “What does that mean?” For God is here to give you answers. Are you not able to look back in your life, and see the hand of God active in your life, through thick and thin, always hoping the best for you? Someday, we will meet Jesus, God in the flesh, and that day may be sooner than we think. Are we Truly prepared to meet Him?

Bob George discusses theological concepts with callers on his radio show. Jay from Huntsville asks about the meaning of Jesus giving Peter the keys in Matthew 16 and 18. Bob clarifies that Jesus represents the foundation of the church. Kenny from Victoria inquires about the start of the New Covenant, which Bob explains began at Jesus’ death. Tim from Washington DC questions the role of forgiveness in prayer, and Bob emphasizes that forgiveness is a work of Christ, not something humans can grant. Paul from Indianapolis seeks understanding of James 2:14-17, and Bob explains that true faith in Jesus produces Jesus’ good works.

” Well, I don’t think that would be any different than saying a branch that is not bearing fruit is dead to the life of the vine, because if he’s at if he’s abiding in the vine, the vine is going to produce the fruit. And if fruit is not being produced, you don’t look at the branch and say, nasty branch. Why aren’t you producing fruit? Because it can’t produce fruit. It can only bear fruit. But the issue is that it’s not abiding in the life of the vine. It’s an indicator of that. So the indicator of faith in Jesus is Jesus works are going to be produced just like the indicator of a branch that’s abiding in the vine is vine. That vine works will be produced in and through the branch who is privileged to bear the fruit. So we have such a tendency, Paul and you space, that you’ll see that in this day and age where everybody’s talking about faith, faith, faith, faith, and the size of your faith, and Big Faith and little faith and not enough faith, and all of this type of thing. When Jesus said, If any of us had the faith the size of a mustard seed, we could move move mountains. And I don’t think I’ve seen too many people do that recently. I’m surprised, but it shows us that it’s not the size of our faith, but it’s the size of our God. So it’s not our faith. It’s the object of our faith. And so the object of our faith is Jesus. And if, if, if the proof that our faith is in Jesus is Jesus, works are going to be produced in and through us, we get a chance to bear it.” – Bob George
