Jesus is The Gospel of Good News

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P30 (01-15-19)

Synopsis

Paul is appealing to men to come to Christ for life. Are you weary or heavy laden? There is good news for you. God is there to give peace and rest to your soul. It is so vitally important to understand the totality of salvation, the gospel, the good news, that you can be made complete in Christ.

There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. God is love, and love keeps no records of wrongs. There is no more record of sins. Why? God sent His Son into this world to die on a cross. The blood of Jesus’ shed blood was of such eternal value that it took away the sins of the entire world. He reconciled the world unto Himself, not counting our sins against Him. God remembers our sins no more because that one offering of Christ Jesus was sufficient to take away the consequence of sin, which is death, for the entire world.

Now, the death of Christ, as great as that is, to take away the consequence of sin, which is death, how much greater is His resurrection from the dead? See, our greater … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

Come to Jesus for Life

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P29 (01-14-19)

Synopsis

Recall that in Romans, Paul explains the purpose of the law and explains what God did to bring salvation to fallen mankind. He goes on to explain law and grace. In doing so, he anticipates the common questions that man would ask.

Romans 6:1
1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?

Romans 6:15 (NASB)
15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be!

Romans 7:7
7 What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful?

Paul answers these questions, explaining the grace of God, the totality of the cross, the resurrection, and how man is made complete in Christ. Still today, there is much confusion on what salvation is. You have numerous denominations out there, and what they could be telling you is true or not true. How would you know?

The Holy Spirit reveals truth to men, and truth is revealed to you through his word. So a lost person cannot discern the things of God because they are spiritually discerned. But the saved person, a person with the Spirit of … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

The Wages of Sin is Death

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P28 (01-13-19)

Synopsis

Continuing on in Romans, Paul explains how the law stirs up sin. He used the example of coveting, because that gets us all. He would not have known what coveting was if the law had not said “do not covet”. But he found that when he tried not to covet, he coveted all the more. He found he could not carry out the law, even though the law is holy, righteous and good. So the problem is not in the law, but in himself. The problem of mankind is sin. In the flesh is sin. The law, which is intended to bring life, actually brought about his death, that he would come to say, “What a wretched man I am”. The purpose of the law is so that you come to the end of the law for righteousness, and in your wretched condition, you turn to the only one who can give you life, the resurrected life of Christ Jesus.

So the law brought about our death. That is, we thought we thought we were okay, basically a good person, until the law told us what sin is, and we found … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

Purpose of The Law

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P27 (01-08-19)

Synopsis

In Romans, Paul uses several illustrations in explaining truth of living under grace. He uses an illustration of marriage to illustrate that we are to die to the law of sin and death and live to another, Jesus Christ our Lord. So a husband who dies, then the woman he was married to is free to marry another man. She is no longer bound to the law of marriage since her husband has died.

As Paul uses various illustrations, the illustration of master and slaves and the law of marriage, he is explaining truth to people who were so accustomed to living under the law of Moses. They perverted the law and made into a means to obtaining righteousness. The truth he taught went against everything the Jewish world at that time believed to be true. As it was in that day, so it is still today. There is still Jewish orthodoxy under strict legalism, that forbids spitting on the ground on the Sabbath. You even have a Sabbat elevator to prevent work on the Sabbath.

You also have the church world today that puts people under law. You have heard … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

Freed From The Law of Sin and Death

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P26 (01-07-19)

Synopsis

Romans 5 and Romans 8 get into the heart of life in Christ Jesus. Paul, appealing to men who are lost, without understanding, anticipates common questions that could be asked. So there is a pause between Romans 5 and Romans 8. In between, in Romans 6 and Romans 7, Paul is going to answer three basic questions.

Romans 6:1
1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?

Romans 6:15 (NASB)
15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be!

Romans 7:7
7 What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful?

The lost person cannot discern the things of the Spirit. So he answers according to the natural man. So if sin causes grace to increase, why not just sin more so grace increases. To the lost person, still dead in sin, sin is pleasurable to him. There is pleasure in sin for a season, but it takes its toll over time, and has you bound in death. A person who responds this way has not come to the end of the law. … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

Jesus Died Once for All

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P25 (01-06-19)

Synopsis

We are continuing our study of Romans. We are currently in the 6th chapter of Romans. Here in chapter 6, Paul is explaining the law of sin and death in contrast to the law of life in Christ Jesus. All of us were born under the law of sin and death. We had been deceived into thinking we can be righteous by observing the law. But the more we tried to obey the law, we come to know we cannot obey it completely or perfectly. So we decide to pick and choose which ones we think we can obey. Well, I can attend church on Sundays. I can stop saying certain bad words, or at least not smoke in church. Yet, if we were are intellectually honest with ourselves, we would realize that the law can only make us conscious of sin.

Paul goes on to explain the purpose of the law. The law was added so man can recognize he is a sinner, and recognize his condition of death, death to God called spiritual death, in order that he might seek a Savior. When one considers that the wages … Listen to Broadcast & Read More
