Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at Jesus Christ P18 (11-11-20)

Synopsis

The coming of Jesus Christ into human history on our behalf was not an event that suddenly burst upon an unsuspecting world. It was a culmination of a long line of prophetic statements, starting with the voice of God predicting his coming at the beginning of human history, that we read in Genesis 3. His arrival in human form was an event planned before the creation of the world. We read that in 1 Peter 1:20, and the mission for which he came, as discussed in 2 Corinthians 5:81-21.

A brief summary of the purpose and plan for Jesus coming to this earth can be found in this little booklet, Be Born Free, sharing from the scriptures, the truth of what God had said through Jesus Christ and what Jesus death, burial and resurrection accomplished for you and me.

So let us look at some prophetic events recorded in the scriptures from the prophet Micah and the prophet Isaiah, written over 700 years before the events occurred. Synopsis

Depression is one of the most common struggles people face. All of us face depression from time to time, and sometimes it grabs a hold of you and essentially cripples you from living free as God intended, full of joy and a peace that surpasses understanding. When you recognize that it is primarily a thinking problem rather than a disease or sickness, then you are on the starting point of walking free. You can start replacing the error in your thinking with truth.

With depression, we often are triggered by an emotional pain, an insult or a rejection from someone. Then you dwell on those thoughts in your head, but instead of relying on truth, you rely on feelings. Then instead of going to God for the answer in His word, you resort to other substitutes that make the flesh feel good. Oftentimes those things we gravitate to are only temporary and fleeting and are not real solutions, but often make the problem worse and fuel our depression. Synopsis

Salvation is receiving life, not a temporal life, but God’s life called eternal life. The only one who has God’s life to give is Jesus, who is God in the flesh. Salvation is coming to Christ for what He came to give us, Himself, Christ, that life of His Son, a life called eternal life.

 

The most basic problem of man is that he is dead to God, and in need of new spiritual life. He has a human spirit that is very much alive to this world, but dead to God. So unless a man is born again, spiritually, a new birth by God Himself through the Spirit of God, then you remain dead. The wrath of God against sin is death, and we were all born dead. So if we fail to come to Christ, we do not become dead, we remain dead, in the current condition we are in.

Jesus Christ is the criteria for truth, for He even identified Himself as the way, the truth and the life. And the most reliable information we have of what He said has been written down for us through those who were eyewitnesses, who walked and talked with Him when Jesus walked this earth. This is the bible, composed of 66 individual books, that we can hold in our hands. As you ponder the pages of scripture, relying on the Spirit to teach you, that is how you come to know what truth is.

But if you want to know what truth is, you first need to know who Jesus Christ is, not just about Him, but receive what He came to give. He came to give you the Holy Spirit, who He is, to come to live inside you. Who can understand the things of God, the things Jesus said that only He would know about since He came from heaven? Unless you are born again you cannot discern the things of God. The Holy Spirit has come to make Christ Jesus known to you. Jesus Came to Earth to Give Life

Synopsis

If you are wondering if there is a God, just take a closer look at nature, such as the birth of a child or even an animal. So you can conclude there is a God, and that is a good start. But to know God exists is one thing, but to know He wants to have a relationship with you is quite another. God wants to communicate with you, for you to know Him, to know He loves you, that He is kind and gentle, patient and merciful, and full of loving kindness. That is exactly why God sent His Son Jesus, to dwell among us, to make God known to us. He came to show us what it means to be truly human, as God intended man to function, when He breathed into Adam the breath of life, the very Spirit of God living inside him.

So Jesus as God chose not to use His rights as God but became totally dependent on His Father, so we who are not God, would know how to truly live. Synopsis

Growing in grace is growing to understand all that God has freely given you, to know the inheritance you have in Christ Jesus, and to learn to rest in Him. It is maturing in your knowledge of the grace of God that has been extended to you in Christ Jesus. It is maturing as you hit life’s problems, trials and tribulations. We have an option to either walk by faith in Jesus who said “I am the way, the truth and the life”, or to go out and try to solve them on our own.

As we learned yesterday, God is the great I Am. But knowing that God is our creator God, what does that practically mean to you and me today? Jesus explained what that meant when He identified Himself as the I Am and illustrated with additional I Am statements, amplifying in physical terms that you and I can relate to. We know what bread and water means to our physical existence.
