Salvation is Not Getting Sins Forgiven

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 63 (08-26-19)

Synopsis

Salvation is not about how sinful we are but how dead we are. Often times, all you hear from the pulpit is how sinful you are. Yes, sin is the cause of death, but death is worse than sin. But what you often erroneously hear is to come down an altar to get your sins forgiven. Well, I got news for you. Salvation is not getting your sins forgiven, but getting new life, God’s life.

Why is salvation not getting your sins forgiven? Well, that is the preparation part of it. Jesus already died to take away the sins of the entire world. His shed blood was once and for all, never to be repeated again, and was all sufficient to take away God’s wrath against all sin, sins from all eternity, past and future, for all men! So if getting sins forgiven is salvation, then everybody is saved already, and that would be called universal salvation. But that is not salvation that saves. Salvation is receiving new life.

Synopsis

The first caller, Anne, wanted to thank Bob for how he encouraged the previous caller, a man who was dying from cancer, to not make decisions based on fear and not to let the doctors or medical staff put fear in you. She had asked Bob if people should at least go more to the Lord instead of the medical profession or even pastors?

Bob and Anne both shared from personal experiences how much fear hospital staff and doctors put in you if you let them. Doctors will insist that if you do not do this or that procedure that you will have these consequences, that if you do not have open heart surgery that you will go into cardiac arrest. Te main point is that you do not let them drive your decision-making based on fear. You lean on the Lord for wisdom and understanding for the decisions you make.

Bob was in agreement with Anne on this matter. Both Anne and Bob shared much heart-breaking experiences of friends or relatives with cancer. A very common concern people have, and a very important concern, is doubt of their salvation. You are either ignoring the life that is in you or you do not have that life in you. The first Larry that called had this concern. After listening to Bob share truth, he concluded that he did not think he had the life of God living in him. He was not certain he had ever invited the life of God to come into him. He was diagnosed as bipolar by secular psychologists and had been drinking for over 20 years and has now found himself in a mental hospital. Is there hope for him? For you? Of course there is. Synopsis

We are in the book of John, chapter 12, after Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Then there was a dinner in the honor of Jesus, and Lazarus was there, and then a festival that took place. After the festival, Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. On his way, some Greeks who had gone to worship at the festival, wanted to see Jesus. They told Philip and in turn he told Andrew and they both told Jesus. Jesus then speaks truth about his purpose in coming to this earth, the mission he came to complete.

While all these events had transpired, the Pharisees and religious leaders are getting more and more upset, and sought to kill Lazarus as well as Jesus. After Lazarus was raised from the dead, the word of Jesus was spreading even more. Recall that job security killed Jesus. They could not be teachers of the law if everyone follows Jesus. They wanted people to listen to their teaching of the law that was contrary to what Jesus was teaching. Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 58 (08-13-19)

Synopsis

The Jews who saw the miracles of Jesus, and believed even based on the miracles themselves, spread the word of Jesus. A born again believer knows and understands the good news and wants others to know the good news too, news that saves and changes lives. Yet, there are people who, out of fear of what others might think or do, will hold back spreading such good news. That is why Jesus said, “Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life”.

There are the religious people out there who are so accustomed to legalism, who add to what the scriptures teach, and see what these grace teachers are teaching as a threat to their place and their position. That is not unlike the Pharisees and religious leaders in Jesus day. They did not receive the news of Jesus favorably. Instead, they sought all the more to put Jesus to death. “Let us put an end to this”, they said. Job security killed Jesus. Bobby called to comment on how sad it is when so many people listen to false teachers, like the Kenneth Copeland‘s. Bob commented that the real issue is where are people going to spend eternity. False teachers have just enough truth to draw people in to listen but intermixed with so much garbage that messes them up for the rest of their life. Is that just like Satan, who is really the one behind this great deception. Bob then addressed the real issue that each person needs to ask himself, “am I saved or am I not saved?” Bob then explained from Hebrews 10:26 what sin keeps someone from being saved from death and the real need of man to have new life in Christ. Bob explained that Jesus death on the cross is when the sins of the entire world was taken away. That does not mean the whole world is saved.
