Synopsis

Bob George continues sharing from the 16th chapter of John. Jesus came to speak truth into the hearts of men. Sadly, even today, not everyone receives truth. The Jews today deny Jesus is the Messiah. They rejected him as the promised Messiah, whom the prophets told was to come into this world to take away sins. Most Jews today do not even know the bible. They hardly know anything except the Passover and things you celebrate, but nothing about Moses, yet they all agree that Jesus is not God. You have the Muslims who would rather believe Mohammad over the words of Jesus, and even think they are doing a service to God by killing Jews and Christians. You have the atheist, who is a fool, saying there is no God. You have the mystics who say that truth does not really matter. “Just love one another”, they say, yet fail to realize that it is impossible to love perfectly as God demonstrated His love to us. Convict the World of Unbelief in Jesus

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 75 (09-23-19)

Synopsis

Briefly turn to the 15th chapter of John. Then we will continue in the 16th chapter. Recall Jesus is talking to his disciples, close to the end of his life on earth, heading to a cross. He is telling them about his going away and that it is better that he goes away. There are many things Jesus taught them over these three years with them but they were not understanding. The disciples would ask, “Why are you going away?” and “How can it be better for us that you are going away?” They were not able to understand. They were filled with grief, not able to bear what Jesus was telling them.

Jesus is comforting them and providing instruction concerning difficult times ahead but also providing hope of a future, of peace that surpasses understanding. He tells them that a time will come that they will be kicked out of the synagogue. He does not want them to have unrealistic expectations of the future. You Have Been Forgiven by God

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 72 (09-16-19)

Transcript

Reconciliation requires total forgiveness, not partial.

Luke 23:34
34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

Do you think the Father answered that prayer? Christ died for sins, how many times? Once.

Hebrews 9:22
22 In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

Is there any more shedding of blood? No. Will he come back and die again? No. He died once and for all.

1 Peter 3:18
18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.

Colossians 2:13-14
13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.

A very common concern people have, and a very important concern, is doubt of their salvation. You are either ignoring the life that is in you or you do not have that life in you. The first Larry that called had this concern. After listening to Bob share truth, he concluded that he did not think he had the life of God living in him. He was not certain he had ever invited the life of God to come into him. He was diagnosed as bipolar by secular psychologists and had been drinking for over 20 years and has now found himself in a mental hospital. Is there hope for him? For you? Of course there is. The problem is really with his heart and his thinking. Will he hold on to a proud heart, leaning on his own understanding and going his own way, thinking he can do it on his own, or will he simply believe the truth he has just heard about God’s provision for sin and death and offer of new resurrected life. Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 50 (07-24-19)

Synopsis

Bob shares from John chapter 11, where Jesus is with Martha and Mary when their brother Lazarus died. Martha said to Jesus, “If you had been here my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.” Jesus then described himself as the resurrection and the life. Jesus then said, “The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die”. What a promise from God! Jesus is not saying that you will never die physically, but those who believed in him in receiving His life, will never die spiritually. That is, they are immediately raised to new life in Him, and are born again.

On the day you were born again, where was Jesus? He was there. He is the resurrection and the life. Could you have been born again without Jesus being there? No. What happened when you were born again? You were raised from the dead. Were all of us dead? Yes. Were you and I dead? Yes. These callers called in to the original People to People radio program Bob George was on for over 30 years. Most of the questions were to get clarification of truth on some commonly misunderstood passages of scripture. Laurie asked, “Where do you place Melchizedek in Hebrews 6:16?” Oftentimes by simply reading the verses before and after a scripture that is unclear to you, you can discern what is important to understand in a passage. We often want to focus on a very narrow point rather than get the spiritual truth that Jesus wants you to know. Bob emphasized that Hebrews is about explaining the superiority of Jesus Christ. To the Jew, there is no one greater than Abraham. Hebrews clears this matter up by explaining that Melchizedek is greater than Abraham and Jesus is greater than everyone.

Edwin asked a very common question, typical of those who are new believers or those improperly instructed from religious teaching. He asked what is the difference between baptism of water and baptism of the Holy Spirit. By studying the scriptures the answer is very clear.
