Synopsis

Bob George continues sharing from the 16th chapter of John. Jesus came to speak truth into the hearts of men. Sadly, even today, not everyone receives truth. The Jews today deny Jesus is the Messiah. They rejected him as the promised Messiah, whom the prophets told was to come into this world to take away sins. Most Jews today do not even know the bible. They hardly know anything except the Passover and things you celebrate, but nothing about Moses, yet they all agree that Jesus is not God. You have the Muslims who would rather believe Mohammad over the words of Jesus, and even think they are doing a service to God by killing Jews and Christians. You have the atheist, who is a fool, saying there is no God. You have the mystics who say that truth does not really matter. “Just love one another”, they say, yet fail to realize that it is impossible to love perfectly as God demonstrated His love to us. Rainey: I am reading Classic Christianity, and calling the number at the end of the book. I am dealing with depression. I have had a very difficult childhood, with divorce. I thought I got over most of the stuff. I was always religious, a Catholic growing up, and thought I would become a nun. I think anti-depressants help. I get messages that I do not have enough faith.

Bob: Let me see if I can help you. If you have depression, I can help you with that. Psychiatric patients are like that because they are obsessed with the past or the future. The first thing you have to understand is that God created you that our feelings will predictably respond to what you are thinking. As an example, “Have you ever felt the emotion of jealousy? What were you thinking? Jealous thoughts. That is why we are feeling thoughts of jealousy. Are we together?

Rainey: Yes. It is hard to keep a thought from entering.

You Have Been Forgiven by God

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 72 (09-16-19)

Transcript

Reconciliation requires total forgiveness, not partial.

Luke 23:34
34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

Do you think the Father answered that prayer? Christ died for sins, how many times? Once.

Hebrews 9:22
22 In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

Is there any more shedding of blood? No. Will he come back and die again? No. He died once and for all.

1 Peter 3:18
18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.

Colossians 2:13-14
13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.

The Sin of the World is Unbelief in Jesus

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 71 (09-11-19)

Transcript

After the resurrection, we are to be pitied of all people. Without resurrection, we would have nothing to celebrate. The resurrection is the focal point of the Christian life. Everyone saw Jesus die on a cross, but the denial of his resurrection is what divides human history.

Starting with his crucifixion, which was not on Friday, but Thursday, we will pick up there. Without the death, the resurrection has no meaning. The Jews call it the preparation day. How appropriate. The cross is the preparation day. It is what God had to do to prepare us for salvation. The cross in not salvation. You are not saved by the death of Christ. You are saved by the life of Christ. But you could not have been saved by the life of Christ apart from the cross. The cross was the preparation day where God prepared you and me for the salvation of life to the dead.

Turn now to John 19, where we will look more closely at the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are going to pick up where Pilate handed Jesus over to be crucified so the soldiers took charge of Jesus.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Do Not Refuse Jesus For Life

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 70 (09-10-19)

We are so prone to follow for what He can give us. They followed him when he fed the five thousand. Why? The next day Jesus said to them, “The only reason you are following me is because you were fed on the other side of the lake”.

I have seen this again and again so many times in people today. In church work, working down on the streets, a guy says, “Give me a meal. What do I need to do? Get baptized. Lead me to the water”. So he gets baptized to get a meal and not to get Jesus. Thousands of times people take advantage of that to get numbers to their credit. The only reason they went to the water was to get a meal and not to get Jesus. You have to have discernment on that kind of thing to determine if they are sincere or just following you to get a meal. That is one of the dangers of just giving a meal. All you have accomplished is satisfying someone’s hunger for a couple of hours. You have not accomplished anything.

Church is Not a Building

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 68 (09-04-19)

Synopsis

Bob George continues sharing from the 14th chapter of John. Jesus is very soon going to the cross to complete the work His Father gave Him to do. He received the command from His Father, to lay down his life only to raise it up again. His disciples are not understanding these things. They do not yet understand why Jesus is going away. Jesus is comforting them to let them know the unfolding plan God had before the foundation of the world. He will not leave them as orphans. A day is coming when he will send the promised Holy Spirit, that the prophets testified about. That day happened at Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit, for the first time, took residence in the hearts of men. That is what Jesus had said to Nicodemus, about what it means to be born again. Jesus will come to make his home in us and he will speak truth into us individually, so that we will know Him.
