Understanding Your Identity as a Child of God

Bob: Now, another thing where we use to determine our self-image is by what we do. And I believe that Satan has done a masterful job of getting people, to use the statements, I’m a, I’m a businessman. I’m a housewife. Who are you Bob? Well, I’m a housewife. I’m a, I’m a businessman. I’m a football player now. In that particular deal our self-image is therefore based upon what we do.

But I think there’s even something deeper to that because in essence, our self-image is not only based upon what we do, but it had me. It would have to be based on how well we do it. In other words, what good does it do to say well, I’m a football player? Have you ever caught a pass? No fumbled every one, every one that has been thrown to me. We Are Identified by Being Under The New Covenant

It is so important to understand our identity in Christ Jesus and the New Covenant we are now identified as being under. And not understanding the difference between the old and new covenants leads to all types of errors in our thinking and susceptible to the lies of the devil, being pushed by pastors and teachers that don’t have a clue themselves of what being under the New Covenant is all about. It’s also important to note that just because someone is teaching in the pulpit, does not mean that that person is even saved. Lies and errors can be spread knowingly or unknowingly. We need the Spirit of God living in us to identify error, correct it, and have our minds renewed. Let’s continue as Bob teaches from lesson #8 of A Closer Look at The Reality of The Resurrection.

God Has Forgiven You of All Your Sins!

John called from Phoenix. He had a question in regards to the blessed assurance. He was worried about one particular verse of scripture. It scared him to think God may say, ‘I never knew you’ based on some of his sins.

Bob clears it up. Salvation is being saved from death. For the wages of sin is death. When Jesus went to the cross, he took away the sins of the world. All your sins were future when Jesus died on the cross. With God there is no past, present and future when it comes to dealing with sins on the cross. Jesus took ALL your SINS away.

Now, a person that has accepted Jesus by faith has eternal life. It’s a life and death issue today.

Matthew 7:21-23
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’

Walking in Our Dependency of Love – Jesus is Love

Matthew called in regards to a question he had about Love in the bible study booklet “A Closer Look at Your Identity in Christ.”

Bob mentions that once we understand the love of God for us, then we begin to have that same love for others. It’s a process though and a renewing of our mind by Him doing it in and through us.

Understanding the Love of God

  • It’s the love of God,
  • that results in the dependency upon God,
  • that then results in the obedience to God.

Romans 8:38,39
38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Perfect Love Drives Out All Fear

Do you really love God? People are living in fear today, and those that are living in fear are not really loving God. People think they love God, yet they don’t know the Love of God. They don’t know that God loves them. They are still trying to perform for God so in turn God would do something for them.

When we understand God’s love for us, it changes our world completely. We may understand God’s love for us when we first come to Him for salvation (eternal life), but then we lose sight of it for our daily living. We get on our own performance track, thinking that we’ve got to do something in order for God to do something ongoing with us. We need to learn that is NOT how God deals with us at all. God is love, and His Love lives in us. This is key to our understanding and walking in the love of God.

1 John 4:16-21
16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
