Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P19 (12-09-19)

Synopsis

The first four books of Romans laid the foundation of the need of all mankind for salvation. Both Jew and Gentile were addressed as both spiritually dead, sinners by nature. Whether under the law or apart from the law, they are both spiritually dead since birth. Sin and death entered the world through one man’s sin, Adam, the first created being.

Now, in chapter 5, Paul is addressing the solution of man’s problem. Man’s problem is greater than sin. His greatest problem is he is spiritually dead. Sin caused his death. So until the problem of sin is taken away, salvation cannot be offered. Now, two fundamental questions need to be understood. What is death? What is salvation?

When Adam chose for himself to decide right from wrong, good and evil, he died. God had told him that the day you decide for yourself that you do not need Me, and choose for yourself right from wrong, good from evil, you shall die. Adam did that and he died. Synopsis

The purpose of the law is explained. The law was put in charge to lead us to Christ so that we could be justified by faith and not through obedience to the law. The law could never make anyone righteous. It was never designed for that. The law was added so that man might recognize he is a sinner, and come to the end of himself, saying: “I cannot do this. I keep falling short. What a wretched man I am! Who can save me from this body of death?” The law is to show you that you are dead and in need of life.

Now, if you do not have a clue as to the ministry of the Holy Spirit, you will have to hold onto something in your life. You are going to hang onto the law or be like the total heathen world as it is becoming in this country, where you believe you do not need the law. The heathen says: “I do not need Jesus. Synopsis

Bob George continues sharing from the 16th chapter of John. Jesus came to speak truth into the hearts of men. Sadly, even today, not everyone receives truth. The Jews today deny Jesus is the Messiah. They rejected him as the promised Messiah, whom the prophets told was to come into this world to take away sins. Most Jews today do not even know the bible. They hardly know anything except the Passover and things you celebrate, but nothing about Moses, yet they all agree that Jesus is not God. You have the Muslims who would rather believe Mohammad over the words of Jesus, and even think they are doing a service to God by killing Jews and Christians. You have the atheist, who is a fool, saying there is no God. You have the mystics who say that truth does not really matter. “Just love one another”, they say, yet fail to realize that it is impossible to love perfectly as God demonstrated His love to us. Convict the World of Unbelief in Jesus

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 75 (09-23-19)

Synopsis

Briefly turn to the 15th chapter of John. Then we will continue in the 16th chapter. Recall Jesus is talking to his disciples, close to the end of his life on earth, heading to a cross. He is telling them about his going away and that it is better that he goes away. There are many things Jesus taught them over these three years with them but they were not understanding. The disciples would ask, “Why are you going away?” and “How can it be better for us that you are going away?” They were not able to understand. They were filled with grief, not able to bear what Jesus was telling them.

Jesus is comforting them and providing instruction concerning difficult times ahead but also providing hope of a future, of peace that surpasses understanding. He tells them that a time will come that they will be kicked out of the synagogue. He does not want them to have unrealistic expectations of the future. Logan: I have a question about Hebrews 6. I understand you cannot lose salvation but when I read this I do not understand.

Hebrews 6:4-6
4 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age 6 and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.

Bob: This is talking to the very people who think they can lose salvation. Hebrew 10 is dealing with this issue. The book was written to Hebrews. How do the Hebrews get their sins forgiven prior to Christ? The day of atonement. They sacrifice animals. They went back to the day of atonement to get their sins forgiven. A very common concern people have, and a very important concern, is doubt of their salvation. You are either ignoring the life that is in you or you do not have that life in you. The first Larry that called had this concern. After listening to Bob share truth, he concluded that he did not think he had the life of God living in him. He was not certain he had ever invited the life of God to come into him. He was diagnosed as bipolar by secular psychologists and had been drinking for over 20 years and has now found himself in a mental hospital. Is there hope for him? For you? Of course there is. The problem is really with his heart and his thinking. Will he hold on to a proud heart, leaning on his own understanding and going his own way, thinking he can do it on his own, or will he simply believe the truth he has just heard about God’s provision for sin and death and offer of new resurrected life.
