Jesus Tells it Like it is

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 83 (10-09-19)

Transcript

Jesus did not die on Friday. He died on Thursday. Just as Jonah was in the belly of the whale for three days and three nights so too was the Son of God in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.

Matthew 12:40
40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Now it says in verse 31. It was the day of preparation. The next day was to be the special Sabbath. That is what we just talked about. Preparation on Thursday, Special Sabbath on Friday, the first day of the feast of unleavened bread. Then the next day, because the Jews did not want to leave the body on the Sabbath, the regular Sabbath day, they asked Pilate to have his legs broken.

John 19:31-37
31 Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jewish leaders did not want the bodies left on the crosses during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down.

The New Covenant Given

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 82 (10-08-19)

Let us join Bob now as he gets started with today’s lesson. Let us pick up where we left off.

John 19:28-41
28 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Jesus said, “Father, into your hands I commit my Spirit”. The body of Jesus died and the Spirit of Jesus lived on. Jesus said, “It is finished”. What did he mean by, “It is finished.” When you understand what Jesus came to do, to give life to us, that he saw us in our condition of spiritual death as a result of Adam’s sin, then you will come to understand what he meant. We quite frankly had nothing to do with our spiritual death. We were born dead spiritually as the result of the sin of Adam.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

3 Days and 3 Nights

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 81 (10-07-19)

Transcript

Preparation Day. Now if you go down to verse 31. We all together. This was the day of preparation. The next day was to be a special Sabbath. In the Jewish history, there were many Sabbaths. A Sabbath is not just from Friday night to Saturday night. There were many Sabbaths. On this day, it was called a special Sabbath. The special Sabbath was the day, not the day of preparation, but the first day of the celebration of the feast of unleavened bread. That was called a special Sabbath. That was not on Saturday, as we know it today. That would be on Friday, the special Sabbath. The special Sabbath was the day of preparation. The regular Sabbath was on the Feast of Tabernacles.

John 19:31
31 Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath.

Let me go back to this. Thursday, the day Jesus was crucified, was called the day of Preparation. Is it not strange that he was crucified on the day of preparation when the cross was the preparation for the salvation through the resurrection. Is that not strange?… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Jesus Said God Alone is Good

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 80 (10-02-19)

Transcript

Let us join Bob now as he gets started with today’s lesson. This morning before we get into the actual teaching in John 18 is to go back and review chronology of what took place in those last days of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

In order to do that we need to go back to chapter 13. Jesus Christ was getting ready to meet with his disciples for the last major instruction to them and we have all of that instruction contained in chapter 13, where he taught the disciples of servitude. The washing of the disciples feet was an act of servitude on their behalf.

He then predicted his betrayal, or it is probably better to say he announced his betrayal, and that this was not something that was going to come by accident, but it was something that was known in the heart of God, and he told him about that.

He also at that time predicted to Peter, who basically was I believe as sincere as a heart attack in about everything he did, but he was like a lot of us. He was rambunctious and he always had a deal that “Lord, if everybody else might betray you, but I’ll never betray you.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

He First Loved Us

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 79 (10-01-19)

Let us join Bob now as he gets started with today’s lesson. Jesus came to earth to serve in love.

Jesus, God in the flesh, came to earth, taking on an earth suit, to serve us in love. Jesus took away your sins on the cross. God offers eternal life!

Transcript

In chapter 13 we pick up in the last hours, in the preparation of the Passover supper where Jesus showed us the meaning of servitude and having the heart of a servant. He came to put in earth suit to serve us in love. He told us to do likewise, to serve one another in love.

He gave the example in washing of his disciples feet, the lowest form of servanthood in those days. He showed his love for his disciples by washing their feet. He told us that a servant is not greater than his master.

In those passages you read about Jesus prediction in regards to his disciples. He predicts the betrayal of Judas and the denial by Peter. You had Judas who betrayed him. You had Peter who denied him. You had Thomas who doubted him. You had every possible emotion being displayed through his disciples in regards to Jesus of Nazareth.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Who were the disciples depending upon for information while Jesus was with them? Jesus. They asked him questions continually, did they not? Did he answer questions continually? Did he teach them continually? Everything we know about Jesus, about his kindness, about his goodness, about his forgiveness, about his dedication to you and me, and his faithfulness to you and me, every single thing we know about God and his character has been revealed to us in Christ Jesus.

In times past, God revealed Himself in many ways, through dreams and visions, through nature, but in these last days He has revealed Himself to us in His Son Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 1:1-3

1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.
