What is the True Gospel?

Many topics of conversation came up in today’s program. These topics of conversation are extremely relevant for today. There are so many pastors that have huge church followings for prosperity gospel teachings. This is not the gospel! And that is where we begin today.

The first caller, Ken called from Frisco Texas. He had a question about searching for a church in their area. Also, he noticed that a lot of the pastors taught the prosperity gospel. In addition to that he wanted to know Bob’s opinion on the husband and wife team being lead pastors at a church.

Bob explains out of the Book of 1 Timothy chapter 6 in regards to these false teachers that preach a prosperity gospel is of a corrupt mind.

1 Timothy 6:3-5
³ If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, ⁴ they are conceited and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions ⁵ and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

Faith in the Jesus of the Bible is Key to Salvation

Jesus lives inside the person immediately when they place faith in Jesus. Jesus will never leave a person no matter what. Nothing can separate a person from God. People think that people have to repent of all of their sins before God will give them eternal life. But the truth of the matter is that no one has ever repented of all of their sins. Repentance is such a strong word that people don’t even understand what it means. Repentance is coming to a totally change of mind in our belief system of Jesus.

When people “change their mind” God gives a person a new heart. They are a new creature in Christ Jesus.

Let’s join Bob as he answers questions from listeners all over the country.

1 John 5: 16-17
¹⁶ If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death.

I once heard someone born in England once say that anyone born in America is a Christian. Some people think that if you go to church then you are a Christian? What do people really mean when they ask if you are a Christian? Are they really just asking to see if you are a good person, towing the line of expectations of men? That you go to a denomination that they approve as the one true church? I have heard Mormons say they are Christians too? I have heard Catholics say they are Christians too? Regardless of the denomination, sitting in a church does not make you a Christian any more than sitting in a hen house makes you a chicken. And who is Jesus to you? Is he merely a political leader? Is he just a prophet like other prophets? Was he just a good and noble man who was martyred for a just cause? Are You as Perfect As Jesus Christ?

If you were asked, “Are you as perfect as Jesus Christ?”, what would be your answer? Are you in Christ? Are you in Him? If you say “yes” to that, what would your answer be, according to the word of God? Have you understood the New Covenant of God’s grace? So let us look at some passages of scriptures so we can come to a conclusion. What did God say?

Hebrews 10:14
¹⁴ For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

Do we believe what God said, or are we like Adam in the garden of Eden, who did not believe what God said. “I know God said to not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, but I say it is good for me.” What happened to Adam? He sinned and he died, just as God had said would happen.

Truth of 1 John 1 is Understood in the Context of a New Covenant Framework

Have you ever heard someone say that God forgives the sins you confess? Is that true according to the scripture? No. Like this and many other questions regarding forgiveness, people who ask such questions do not know what Jesus accomplished by way of the cross. We have all these theologies that are paralyzing the Christian community with this concept that you can get in and out of fellowship with God. Not only were all the sins of the entire world taken away, forgiven forever, from the eyes of God when Jesus shed His blood on a cross, but Jesus rose from the dead in order to give to you and me eternal life, an indestructible life, that cannot be taken away by sin, having ushered in a New Covenant of grace that we are to live under today. Understanding Forgiveness in Light of the Full Gospel and the New Covenant

Without understanding the New Covenant we live under today, that can hinder us from properly interpreting scriptures. It is like you are trying to understand a doctrine, such as forgiveness, in isolation, and so you have tunnel vision, and come to incorrect conclusions. For example, how do you understand a passage such as this one?

Matthew 6:14-15
¹⁴ For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. ¹⁵ But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

And then, how do you explain a passage in the New Covenant, such as this one?

Colossians 3:13
¹³ Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Are those passages contradicting each other? Are you forgiven of all your sins or not? If I fail to forgive my brother, then will God not forgive me today? Those are the kinds of questions commonly asked upon reading such passages in isolation.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message
