Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P31 (01-20-19)

Synopsis

In Romans, the apostle Paul explains to us the nature of fallen man, how man is not only a sinner but spiritually dead and in need of life. Paul explained this in great detail, in regards to both the Jew, who pursued a righteousness as if it were by works, and a Gentile, who was so far removed from the things of God, the most heathenistic people there is, with temple worship and all kinds of promiscuity and evil behavior. The Gentiles were set aside while God is working with the Jews through the law and the Old Covenant he established. But then Paul is appointed to bring the gospel to the Gentile world, as God promised through the prophets of Old. So, to the Jew and the Gentile, God formed one new body out of both the Jew and the Gentile, called the Ecclesia, the people of God, made up of the those who are born again, made into a new creation by Christ, by believing the message of Christ.

Synopsis

There is nothing that has overtaken you except what is common to man. Depression and addictions of all kinds are common to man. That does not mean everybody will be addicted to alcohol or cocaine, but the root problem is the same. Brokenness and sin manifests itself in people in different ways. No matter what condition you are in, Christ Jesus is who you really need. Are you depressed? What do you think causes depression? It really stems from a thinking problem. You are thinking about the bad things that happened yesterday, or even projecting what life will be like tomorrow, and your feelings naturally follow. At times, such depression will lead to other thinking issues and other areas of addiction, such as alcohol or cocaine. And what do people naturally do? They compare themselves with others, assuming others have it all together. The truth of the matter is, nobody has it all together. Religion also compounds the problem, making demands of you, that you could never meet. That also leads to frustration. Some respond by giving up. Faith in Your Mind

Classic Christianity – New Years P2 (12-31-19)

Synopsis

So when you become born again, what is your identity? Are you a Baptist, a Presbyterian, or whatever title you choose to associate with? No. The bible only gives you one identity, a child of God. Denominations teach you denominational persuasions of men. It might be true. It might not be true. How do you know that what people are teaching you is true? By the word of God you hold in your hands, and by the Spirit of God, living in you, who has promised to guide you into all truth. Do you test whatever any man says is true? Do you test what is being said by looking into God’s word, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal truth to you? That is what the apostle Paul commended the Bereans for doing. We also have the exhortation to study the word so at to rightly divide the word of God. We are instructed to be transformed by the renewing of our minds.

Faith vs Belief

Classic Christianity – New Years P1 (12-30-19)

Synopsis

So often mankind lives in error because of the futility of their thinking. We are born spiritually dead, without the life of God in us, and until we are born again, we are essentially left to our own carnal thinking. We think we can pull it off and obey the law, or we think we can decide for ourselves what is right and wrong, and have no understanding that God within the man is indispensable to the proper functioning of the man. I have spoken to a person who is lost, who will reject anything I say about Jesus but will say she picks out the good things out of all religion. The understanding of the lost is so foreign to someone who is now in Christ.

Then we are born again, where the Spirit of God comes to indwell within us. The Spirit of God teaches us to say no to ungodliness and worldly passions. We are instructed to put aside our former way of thinking, that drove our former way of living, and to be renewed in our minds.

God Forgave You

Classic Christianity – Christmas P3 (12-25-19)

Synopsis

Hebrews give a panoramic view of God’s dealing with mankind and the final solution in Jesus Christ. When you think of the Old Testament, what thought come to your mind? Have you looked at it close enough to realize how patient and long-suffering God was with mankind? Do you think of God as an angry God ready to pounce on you when you sin? Then you have not properly understood the heart of God and the purpose for which he came.

As you read about the continual failures of mankind, do you think God was surprised at that? Man was already born dead, without the Spirit of God in him. God, knowing all that, had a plan to restore mankind back to a relationship with Himself. See man is hopeless and dead in his trespasses and sins. So out of great love for mankind, God sent His Son, at the right time, to enter this world. He entered this world to show us his righteousness so that we can see our unrighteousness, and see our need. When you see the contrast between Jesus and ourselves, it is quite a contrast! Life Through Jesus

Classic Christianity – Book of Romans P22 (12-16-19)

Synopsis

So this condition of spiritual death happened in the garden of Eden. There was a war raging in heaven between Satan and God. Satan, who deceived Eve, and caused Adam and Eve to sin, thought he had won. To be clear, Adam, of his own free will, chose to decide for himself what is right and wrong, what is good and evil, independent of God.

Now Satan thought he destroyed God’ creation, forever. All mankind since Adam are born very much alive to the world, and with free will, but dead to God. That is why man has a longing in his heart, and ask questions like: “Why am I here?”, “Is there more to life than this meaningless life I have?”, or “Why do I feel so empty inside?”

The story does not have to end there, in the death of mankind. God, full of love and compassion for mankind, had a plan. Through the lineage of the Jews, through the line of David, He sent His only Son, Jesus, into this world. Jesus is God in the flesh, a person of the Trinity.
