We are children of God, but children have to grow. And as long as we are on this earth, we continually have a need for our mind to be renewed, because we have sin-indwelling flesh. That is what keeps us dependent on God, and Jesus said He has overcome the world, and that same Spirit that overcame the world is now living in you, for that reason. So God tells us to not be afraid, and to be of good cheer, for He has overcome the world.

So how do children grow. That is the importance of the word of God in our lives, relying on the Spirit to teach you truth to change you. His word is living and active, changing the attitudes of our heart. It takes time for our hearts to change sometimes. Have you ever been angry at someone, or a spouse did something that caused a rift in your marriage, or you yourself are holding onto bitterness? We have all experienced various things like that. God Works Everything Out For Our Good

Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The Word of God P45 (05-19-21)

Synopsis

As we are looking at the application of the word of God in our lives, we ask ourselves, “How do we do this?” Do we obey because it is a command of God, and therefore, we must do it? If the law says, do not steal, then should I not steal? The law is holy, righteous and good, but there is a deeper problem in the heart of man. If we try to live the Christian life that way, that would be putting ourselves back under a law that the Jews lived under in an Old Covenant system, and the entire Old Testament is a history of their failure, yet also of God’s faithfulness. Such a system says that you are cursed if you do not continue to do everything written in the law. The law, and what Jesus explains concerning the law, buries us, showing us our unrighteousness that we might see our need of a Saviour and look for Him to save us from ourselves, our condition of death.

Often times, in modern Christianity today, you will hear the comingling of law and grace, with much teaching about obedience to the law, teaching things out of the old testament or from the gospels, such as Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, out of context, and trying to make it apply to us today. For example, you might hear a pastor say, quoting from the words of Jesus, who was teaching the Jews, people who were still under the law, since Jesus had not gone to the cross yet, that if you do not forgive someone else their sins then neither will God forgive you, and use that to put people on a guilt trip, or under some sort of unfounded fear. Sadly, pastors are supposed to be ministers of a new covenant, but either are not born again themselves, or have not grown in their own understanding of the most basic foundation, that God has called them to be a minister of the new covenant, yet they have not learned anything about the new covenant they are supposed to be a minister of. Synopsis

People call in to get advice and help on various topics, such as personal struggles with temptation or clarification on understanding scriptures, particularly those passages in the gospels that apply only to the Jewish people who were living under an Old Covenant. So Bob explains what the New Covenant we live under today is.

Jesus used the law to bury people under the law so they can see their need for a Savior. Until the work was finished, Jesus taught about the New Covenant to come, and he told his disciples to wait in Galilee for the promised Holy Spirit. And when the Holy Spirit comes into a person, a person becomes born again, the Spirit remains forever. That is what happened to the disciples on the day of Pentecost, the first time in history people were born again.

The Holy Spirit is what changes lives. The disciples could not really understand what Jesus was saying to them, but now with the Holy Spirit living in them, they now have new revelation. Jesus Works All Things Out for Our Good

Synopsis

Questions that come up quite frequently are questions in regard to tithing and various passages in the Old Testament. Questions like, “How does that passage apply to me today?” It doesn’t. The most prevalent question is in regard to tithing. “Am I robbing God when I do not tithe?” Absolutely not. If a person understood the New Covenant they are living under today, they would not need to ask such questions, for the answer would be very clear. These questions can easily be answered from the scriptures themselves, and anyone who has the Spirit of God living in Him, would then be able to discern the truth on these things.

First of all, to get a grasp of what the New Covenant is we live under today, the book of Hebrews is a book strongly encouraged that you read. There you will discover that the New Covenant replaced the Old Covenant. Synopsis

Many callers, as they are growing in Christ, as we all are, have questions. If you have been in Christ for some time now, there are certain questions that are commonly asked, which if you do not understand the context or the difference between law and grace or the difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant, some passages might be confusing to you.

This is certainly true of those who grew up under some kind of religious teaching where foundational truths were not taught. Oftentimes people are taught to memorize certain passages of scripture as a child, such as through an AWANA program or some other church program for youth. The problem with scripture memory is if the passages before and after a memory verse are not read, or not understood in its context, false teaching occurs. So, in many cases, a renewing of the mind has to occur so people can grab a hold of truth.
