Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 35 (06-18-19)

Bob George shares from the gospel of John. He shares briefly what we have learned so far. Beginning with John 1 up until we pick up again in John 7, verse 14, we discovered quite a lot about Jesus. We read about how Jesus is the living word that came down from heaven. We read that he claimed to be God. He said that he is the the bread of life and the living water. We read that he demonstrated that he is God by the miracles that were performed through him. We read that he only did what he saw His Father doing, and said only what His Father told him to say and how to say it. He fulfilled the Father’s will perfectly, and at the right time. Numerous times he said his time had not yet come. He was truly the Spirit-filled man, who was the perfect model of how man was designed to live.

From studying the life and character of Jesus, we can come to believe he is God, that he alone is righteous and we were born spiritually dead and in need of life. Bob George continues teaching from the gospel of John. Bob shared from the scripture that when your desire is to do God’s will then you will in the right attitude to believe in who Jesus claimed to be. Do you really want to do God’s will or do you want what you want and when you want it? If you have heard God’s word, are you willing to trust what you heard? Or, are you inclined to trust the words of men over the word of God? Are you persuaded that the one who said he is God really is God? If you do then you would know how mankind was created and you would not believe in evolution. You know the Holy One of God and you know that what he says is true and believe what he says. Even though Jesus is not walking on the earth today, the divine word has been recorded down for us as men were carried along by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21). The Holy Spirit resides in people who have believed the message of Christ and accepted his offer of eternal life. Bob George explains from John 6 what Jesus meant when he said to eat his flesh and drink his blood (John 6:53-59). In the natural mind, it sounds like he is teaching cannibalism. The natural man understands nothing but the spiritual man understands everything. Jesus is not teaching cannibalism at all nor is he saying that we are to ingest a wafer offered by a priest in order to have the life of Christ. You do not mix the natural with the spiritual. Flesh and blood do not inherit the kingdom of God. The Spirit gives life and the flesh counts for nothing. Jesus is speaking about spiritual food. He is explaining that he is the bread of life, not a physical piece of bread, but that he is the Holy one of God who has the words of eternal life, spiritual food man desperately needs to live forever. Whoever believes that he came from heaven and has a message from heaven will follow him to the cross and to the empty tomb. Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 32 (06-11-19)

The disciples, whom Jesus spent 3 years with, came to accept the truth Jesus was sharing concerning eternal life, except Judas Iscariot who later betrayed him. These disciples had an encounter with the living God. It was a hard teaching because it was so contrary to what they are so accustomed to hearing, since, like all of us, live in the natural realm and are born spiritually dead. But Peter, a disciple of Jesus, caught the message. Bob George also had an encounter with God and was born again in 1969. This is not an encounter where you physically see Jesus but where you hear spiritual truth. Truth is revealed to you by the Spirit of God. The Spirit has spoken deep into your heart that you are spiritually dead and in need of life and you accepted the only available life, the resurrected life of Christ.

Jesus is speaking on earth to these men concerning what he is going to do in the near future, to die, be buried and then to rise again. Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 31 (06-10-19)

Bob George shares from John 6, where Jesus is explaining spiritual truth to the Jews who came to him to get food. It is a hard teaching to us because Jesus used illustrations in the physical realm to explain truth in the spiritual realm. He spoke about real food and real drink, in referring to spiritual food that can only be received by faith. You do not receive eternal life by receiving a wafer into your body as offered by a priest but by believing what Jesus did for you, that he died, was buried and that he rose again. Unless a man is born again he cannot enter the kingdom of heaven, not born of mom and dad, but born again from above, by God, as Jesus explained to Nicodemus in John 3. Jesus is appealing to men to come to him for life.

This is not even religion but an extremely practical thing God did for us. If you need life then you are dead. Until we see our spiritual death then why would we ever come to him for spiritual life? Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 30 (06-05-19)

Bob George continues sharing truth from the book of John. He just shared about the reaction of the religious Jews about Jesus claims to be God. The proud of heart will not see God, but the humble will listen intently to his words unto eternal life. Jesus said, “You are looking at me and you are still not going to believe in me”. Your pride can be taken away by realizing that you cannot give yourself life and that you cannot take away your sins. You are ready for Jesus. If that is the case, then your coming to Christ is as close as a prayer. What happens in this day and age when we do not see him? We hear about Jesus today. Do all people respond? Who responds? The humble. The humble listen to his voice and call upon him for truth, as the Father draws him to all truth, the truth that brings salvation, eternal life, to the knowing of God intimately. Let the life of Christ live in and through you.
