Convict the World of Unbelief in Jesus

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 75 (09-23-19)

Synopsis

Briefly turn to the 15th chapter of John. Then we will continue in the 16th chapter. Recall Jesus is talking to his disciples, close to the end of his life on earth, heading to a cross. He is telling them about his going away and that it is better that he goes away. There are many things Jesus taught them over these three years with them but they were not understanding. The disciples would ask, “Why are you going away?” and “How can it be better for us that you are going away?” They were not able to understand. They were filled with grief, not able to bear what Jesus was telling them.

Jesus is comforting them and providing instruction concerning difficult times ahead but also providing hope of a future, of peace that surpasses understanding. He tells them that a time will come that they will be kicked out of the synagogue. He does not want them to have unrealistic expectations of the future. But he also tells them that when he goes away, he will send the Holy Spirit to be in you and to be … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

Faith in Jesus Sets You Apart

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 74 (09-18-19)

Transcript

We are going to pick up in the 15th chapter of John. We will be discussing how the Christian life is to be lived. Again, we cannot live Christ’s life for Him. We have to allow Him to live His life in and through us. When we do not understand that truth, we come to Christ, and with no less than a noble effort, we go and seek out a life we cannot live. We go out and struggle and strain, but we cannot go out and live a life Christ told us to live. We must allow Him to live it in and through us. The illustration He gave us on that is the parable of the vine and the branches. There is no greater illustration of it than this. He says, “I am the vine”. The vine is the source of the fruit. You are the branch. We bear the fruit but only the vine can supply the fruit. There is a bondage between the two. Jesus is saying, ’I want us to work together. I do the production and you do the bearing of the fruit, … Listen to Broadcast & Read More

You Have Been Forgiven by God

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 72 (09-16-19)

Transcript

Reconciliation requires total forgiveness, not partial.

Luke 23:34
34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

Do you think the Father answered that prayer? Christ died for sins, how many times? Once.

Hebrews 9:22
22 In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

Is there any more shedding of blood? No. Will he come back and die again? No. He died once and for all.

1 Peter 3:18
18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.

Colossians 2:13-14
13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.

Romans 7:6
6 But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have

The Sin of the World is Unbelief in Jesus

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 71 (09-11-19)

Transcript

After the resurrection, we are to be pitied of all people. Without resurrection, we would have nothing to celebrate. The resurrection is the focal point of the Christian life. Everyone saw Jesus die on a cross, but the denial of his resurrection is what divides human history.

Starting with his crucifixion, which was not on Friday, but Thursday, we will pick up there. Without the death, the resurrection has no meaning. The Jews call it the preparation day. How appropriate. The cross is the preparation day. It is what God had to do to prepare us for salvation. The cross in not salvation. You are not saved by the death of Christ. You are saved by the life of Christ. But you could not have been saved by the life of Christ apart from the cross. The cross was the preparation day where God prepared you and me for the salvation of life to the dead.

Turn now to John 19, where we will look more closely at the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are going to pick up where Pilate handed Jesus over to be crucified so … Listen to Broadcast & Read More
