So many people are in bondage due to error, whether from legalism or from false teaching or harsh, condemning words they believed to be true. Todd expressed the error he has heard from Baptist churches, that is really double talk, that only leads to being unstable in all your ways and living a defeated life. How can someone say you have to confess your sins to keep in fellowship with God and also say all your past, present and future sins have been forgiven? There is so much incorrect teaching from a poor translation of 1 John 1:9 and from passages in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, where people do not understand the difference between the Old Covenant that the Jews and Jesus lived under and the New Covenant that Jesus spoke about. Because of such error, people are living defeated lives and certainly not the abundant life Jesus promised. Salvation is also not properly taught or understood.

These callers called in to the original People to People radio program Bob George was on for over 30 years. Most of the questions were to get clarification of truth on some commonly misunderstood passages of scripture. Laurie asked, “Where do you place Melchizedek in Hebrews 6:16?” Oftentimes by simply reading the verses before and after a scripture that is unclear to you, you can discern what is important to understand in a passage. We often want to focus on a very narrow point rather than get the spiritual truth that Jesus wants you to know. Bob emphasized that Hebrews is about explaining the superiority of Jesus Christ. To the Jew, there is no one greater than Abraham. Hebrews clears this matter up by explaining that Melchizedek is greater than Abraham and Jesus is greater than everyone.

Edwin asked a very common question, typical of those who are new believers or those improperly instructed from religious teaching. He asked what is the difference between baptism of water and baptism of the Holy Spirit. By studying the scriptures the answer is very clear. Bob received a call by Patsy, who wanted guidance or reassurance in regards to actions she had taken with a granddaughter who had chosen to live a lesbian lifestyle. Bob reassured her that what Patsy did was in accordance with truth and love for her granddaughter. You do not have to be a believer to know that the actions of your granddaughter is sin. Bob explains Romans 12 in regards to this kind of perverse mind and also the actions taken by the apostle Paul in regards to a similar sexual perversion that occurred in the midst of the believers in 1 Corinthians. So Patsy did what was right to send her granddaughter back to her parents because of her persistent rebellion. Bob and Patsy were in agreement in the truth on this.

“You set a standard and tell her the truth in regards to Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ loves you and he was raised to offer you eternal life. He did not create you a depraved pervert. That came from your own choice. But I am not going to have that behavior flaunted in our own home. Bob received calls from several callers who heard error. These are the questions asked. Can I be in and out of fellowship with God? Have I committed the unpardonable sin? What about a young child or the handicapped or those who have never heard the gospel of salvation?

Dale called for clarification of truth from a pastor who spoke error concerning a believer being in and out of fellowship with God. He had incorrectly taught from the parable of the prodigal son from Luke 15 to explain a false teaching of being in and out of fellowship with God. Luke 15 is not talking about a believer but an unsaved lost son who received righteousness by faith and faith alone and an older brother who failed to receive that righteousness by faith. It is really a parable about the self righteous Jew and the non-seeking Gentile who hears the message of Christ, believes and is saved.

Mark calls on behalf of his 8 year old daughter concerning about what happens when young children die. Several callers called to ask questions for clarification on truth. The questions asked were for understanding forgiveness, legalism, spiritual growth, water baptism versus baptism of the Spirit, and what it means by “bound and loosed” in John 20:23. Bob explains the scriptures to explain truth while exposing common misunderstanding.

Bobbie called to express his spiritual burnout he is experiencing in bible college. Bob personally believes it is due to a lack of emphasis on the dependence of the Spirit of God to understand the meaning of the word of God. The bible is written so someone can get to know the author. Bob then addressed his question on forgiveness more thoroughly, for he is being improperly taught in his bible college. The issue of forgiveness is emphasized more than anything else in bible college, but is taught in error, as in the common misunderstanding of 1 John 1:9, where people are taught to keep short accounts with God, to confess future sins so as to keep in fellowship with God. That is teaching in error.

Bob answers calls from several believers who struggled with sin and temptation, like all of us (1 Corinthians 10:12-13). Believers can get caught up in a sin, whether a continual pattern of drunkenness or even a one time sin of fornication that led to an unwanted or untimely pregnancy. So Bob shares encouraging words and truth with those who called with their struggles and plea for help. Bob shares the truth of the gospel in Jesus Christ (John 1:12, John 10:10, John 11:25, 1 John 5:12, Romans 5:10, 1 Corinthians 1:30) and His unconditional love and acceptance (Hebrews 10:14, Romans 8:38-39). There is no fear in love and perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18). God causes all things to happen for the good for those who love Him and are called according to His good purpose (Romans 8:28). Bob provides instruction on growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18, Romans 6:3-4, 2 Peter 1:4).
