Synopsis

In this world there will always be false teaching. There will be pastors of churches who do not know the Lord. There will be people who do know the Lord, but would rather rely on their intellect, their Greek, their Hebrew, their seminary, to teach the word of God. Many times people will teach whatever theology that they grew up with or came to know the Lord under. And since they are told they must go to seminary in order to preach, and so they go to seminary and there they are taught all sorts of tradition or teaching that may or may not be true. Sadly, so few people will test to see if what they heard is so, by checking the scriptures out for themselves. The whole issue of false teaching is false dependency, leaning on your own understanding rather than relying on the Holy Spirit living in you, to reveal the meaning of the word of God to you. Synopsis

Have you understood what faith is? Faith must have an object. It is more than an intellectual assent to facts or some sort of faith in some mystery, that nobody knows what that mystery is. I can know that Abraham Lincoln died in Ford’s theater and by believing that, that does not have any impact on my life. I can even go to church, thinking that if I go to church then somehow God will accept me, or my good deeds will outweigh my bad. I can think that I can get all my sins confessed that built up during the week off my chest. I could be doing that whether I was going to a Catholic mass or even sitting in my own bedroom quoting 1 John 1:9, but all the while wondering if I missed confessing some sin. I could even think that I came to Jesus to get all my sins forgiven, and then still doing those confessing of sins as well. So it could be I did not have a proper understanding of the complete gospel in Christ Jesus. Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The New Covenant P19 (07-06-21)

Synopsis

Faith is one of those words used or heard but do we know what it means? Hebrews 11 defines faith as confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This “hope for” is not a “hope so”, but a firm trust in what God has guaranteed us in His Son. We put our trust in what God accomplished for us in Christ Jesus, in what his death, burial and resurrection accomplished for us.

But not everyone has heard or understood what Jesus accomplished for us. You can know that Jesus is God, and that he lived, died and did certain marvelous things, but you have not put your faith in what He has given you, which is eternal life. I once was asked, “Would you like to be saved?”. I had never heard such a strange question before. “Saved from what?” I knew about Jesus dying on a cross. You see a picture of that in the church I grew up in all the time. And I knew something about Jesus rising from the dead. Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The New Covenant P18 (07-05-21)

Synopsis

Many times young people are taught to memorize scripture. I am not sure if they are even taught to read the bible on their own. So we create little smart-sounding people that get rewarded for how many verses they memorize. But the real question is, do they understand what they memorized, and in context? Otherwise, we have essentially trained a computer to spit out what is put in.

Other people have been trained that certain people who have special training, are the only ones that have the corner on truth. In some denominations, you are taught that only the Magisterium can interpret the bible, and talk of something called oral tradition as of greater value in knowing what truth is. The problem with denominations, whether Protestant, Catholic or anything else, people are taught denominational persuasions of men. How would you know if what you are being taught is true or not?

The word of God is the source of truth. But ultimately, the author of the bible, God Himself, has to reveal truth to men by the Spirit He has given. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.… Click to Read More And Follow Along With The Message

Listen as people call to get answers to their questions. Every now and then, you have a caller who asks, “What must I do to be saved?” or says “I am having doubts about my salvation.” Many people have doubts about their salvation for any number of reasons. And wherever you are right now, we all start out the same way, without the Spirit of God living in you. That is, we are all born dead spiritually and are in need of new life.

When you are reading the gospels, you are reading a record of the life of Christ while he was here on earth. What was his destiny? He came to die on the cross and give you and me eternal life in Himself. In order to do that, He had to prepare us and show us what our condition was. He had to show us we are sinners. If we do not see ourselves as sinners, what would the cross mean to me? He had to show us we are dead. If I did not know I was dead, why would I need life? There are all kinds of people in this world, who go throw painful circumstances in life, sometimes they caused it themselves, as they were formerly lost and got trapped in sinful or even perverse behavior. But other times, you are the recipient of someone else’s sinful behavior such as a adultery, and so you have the right to file a divorce in such circumstances. Some women caught up in a situation like that incorrectly think they have to wait on the husband to file the divorce. That is simply not true. Listen as Bob George counsels this woman, who is notably upset, crying, and he asks her the probing questions to help her in making practical and wise decisions.

You will also run into people, who are blind and lost to spiritual things, and so they will throw out smokescreens, asking if you can prove to me where Cain’s wife came from or if Jonah was really in a whale?
