Church is Not a Building

Synopsis

Bob George continues sharing from the 14th chapter of John. Jesus is very soon going to the cross to complete the work His Father gave Him to do. He received the command from His Father, to lay down his life only to raise it up again. His disciples are not understanding these things. They do not yet understand why Jesus is going away. Jesus is comforting them to let them know the unfolding plan God had before the foundation of the world. He will not leave them as orphans. A day is coming when he will send the promised Holy Spirit, that the prophets testified about. That day happened at Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit, for the first time, took residence in the hearts of men. That is what Jesus had said to Nicodemus, about what it means to be born again. Jesus will come to make his home in us and he will speak truth into us individually, so that we will know Him. Salvation is Receiving New Life

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 67 (09-03-19)

Synopsis

Bob shares from the 14th chapter of John. Jesus is soon going to the cross and is sharing final words of instruction and encouragement to his disciples. He is explaining the plan God has laid out for him to accomplish. He is telling his disciples that they should be glad he is going away. For if he does not go away, then the Spirit will not come to them.

Jesus first had to go to the cross. At the cross is where he shed his blood to take away the cause of death, which is sin. Sin is the cause of death, and until that is settled, the next time man sins, he would die again. But once that is done, then he will ascend back to his Father and leave the Holy Spirit to be with man, to those who will receive him and believe in his name. Salvation is receiving new life. New life happens when the Holy Spirit comes to live inside man. That first happened at the day of Pentecost, to those who believed the words of Jesus.

A New Creature in Christ

Synopsis

Bob George continues sharing from the 13th chapter of John. Here is Peter, like all of us, born spiritually dead, without the spirit of God living in him, living in darkness. But who is he listening to? He is listening to the Light of the world, the man sent from heaven, sent to explain spiritual truth to him. Can he understand what Jesus is saying? No. Neither could we without the Spirit of God living in us. Yet truth is being explained to him. What does he decide to do with the very words of Jesus?

When someone is born again, having the Spirit of God living in him, what is supposed to happen? There is supposed to be a change that takes place. You become a new creation, not an old one. Many times that does not happen overnight. Conversion experiences are all over the place. For some people, their behavior changes immediately. With others, that change in behavior takes a while. God is the Initiator

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 64 (08-27-19)

Synopsis

Follow along in the 13th chapter of John, as Jesus is soon going to be arrested and ultimately go to the cross and then to the victory of the resurrection. This is the time of Jesus in his last days. He is going to teach the most important elements of his entire ministry. If you or I knew we had only a few weeks left to live, we would probably give the most important instructions to the ones we love. So it is with Jesus.

Jesus is in a rented room, having the last meal he would ever have on earth with his disciples. He, being the creator of all things, God in the flesh, stoops down and washes the disciples feet. This was done in an attitude of service, showing great humility. Peter, of course, spoke up, as he usually does, not understanding why Jesus was doing such a thing.

The gospel of good news in Christ Jesus is a practical message that changes lives. The truth of Christ lives in you and truly sets you free. The root cause of marriage is people trying to get a need met from the spouse for love and acceptance. Those are things only God can give you. So when a spouse expects this to be met by her mate then that drains him of energy and puts a strain and burden on the marriage. Such was the case with Katie who called. She called with great emotional pain, having been married for two years but currently separated from her husband for three months now. She also was worried about her future and said she was trying to think positively.

Bob addressed several truths for her to grab a hold of. It is not a matter of thinking positively on a situation or your circumstances but thinking truthfully and realistically.
