Yes, and if he is a solid teacher, he is not going to merely teach you what he thinks, but will point you to Christ and the scriptures so you can see for yourself what God has said. Then, you, having the Spirit of God in you, are in a position to allow the Spirit to reveal truth to you. That is how we all grow in grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.

As we come to understand the meaning of God’s word, then we are able to take every thought captive to the obedience to Christ and are not easily swayed by the opinions or traditions of men, those who have fine sounding arguments but yet not based on truth. It is so common to be in a bible study and hear erroneous teaching. Yes, even preachers teach things that are false. Often times people are raised under denominational teaching since their youth, and repeat what they here as if it that is the truth. Why? I heard it in Sunday school. Sadly, many people would rather hold onto tradition, thinking it is of equal par with the scriptures. Others simply do not know the scriptures to discern truth from error. So how then can you discern what is true and what is error? Do you have to go to seminary and study Greek and Hebrew? No. If anyone lacks wisdom ask of God and He will give you wisdom without partiality.

First of all, to discern truth from error, you must be born again so that you can have the mind of Christ, so you can have the Spirit of God guide you into all truth. Synopsis

Someone says to you they have never sinned. What would you tell him? Take him to 1 Corinthians 13, and tell him to replace every occurrence of “love” with his name, and ask him how well he is doing in the love department. If he is married, you can also ask him if he would put his wife on the line. You want to ask his wife what she thinks of her husband.

The truth of the matter is that all of us have fallen short, all of us have sinned, and we cannot live perfectly in this flesh of ours. If we were to die, and then we were to stand before God in our own righteousness, then how righteous I am next to Bob is not the issue. How righteous am I next to Jesus is the question. We are made to be dependent on Jesus, letting Him to live His life in and through us. This is called walking by the Spirit so you will not carry out the desires of the flesh.
