The Lord said to us so we have the privilege of choosing to let Him live His life in and through us. But we also have the choice not to do so, but it would make no sense to do so. We are no longer under the law but under grace. That does not give us a license to sin, for we can do that without the law. Indeed, the law is what stirs up sin. But under grace, when you are truly born again, you have this attitude of gratitude, of the deep mercy and mercy of God towards you ,that you are compelled to live in the new way of the Spirit, who lives in you.

So God called us to be sanctified, to be set apart from the world, for His good purposes. But, when we are not thinking correctly, having errors in our heads, we need to be renewed with truth. You cannot escape troubles in this fallen world, and many people have gone through horrendous things in this life, abuse of all kinds, beaten and rejected by a spouse, or molested by a close relative, and they carry hurtful and very painful memories and scars. But God wants us to be set free with truth, to turn our eyes to Him and live in His wonderful grace. We choose not to recall those painful memories, except to the degree that we can comfort others, who are going through the same things we did, with the same comfort we received from God.

As believers, we struggle at times with all kinds of life issues. A common issue is marriage, and especially so when one or the other spouse is not a believer. AS a born again believer, we have the Spirit of God living in us, and so we have access to God’s wisdom through his word, to renew our mind so our behavior is in accordance with who we are. But a non-believer does not have that resource, and therein lies the conflict. That is why the word of God instructs believers not to be unequally yoked, for what does light have to do with darkness.

Today’s callers asked for help in regard to marriage issues and even about how to quit smoking. A lady called on behalf of her older sister who is seeing another man. Another person asked for clarification on a passage of scripture in regards to a passage in regard to adultery and marriage in Matthew 18:8-10. A person called about clarification on a passage of scripture, in Colossians 1:21-23, that seemed to indicate you could lose your salvation, even though he knows you cannot. Then there was this question that you still her quite often today, “Is a Catholic a Christian?”

Many of the questions these callers asked can easily be answered when, first of all you have the Spirit of God living in you, and you know the difference between the old covenant of sin and death, before the cross, and the new covenant of grace, after the cross, that we are under today. So when Jesus is saying things in the gospel of Mathew, Mark, Luke or John, he is saying things to people living under an old covenant, and the new has not yet come.
