Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 27 (05-29-19)

Bob George shared from John 6 and Matthew 14 on the miracles of Jesus, the healing of the sick, the feeding of the five thousand with two small fish and five barley loaves, and calming a storm after walking on water, then continues teaching from Matthew 15. God is in the miracle working business but the greatest miracle is the transformed lives of men. Jesus did these miracles because the Father told him to (John 5:19, John 8:28), for God is full of compassion and tender mercy (James 5:11).

He was here on earth on a mission, a plan from before the foundation of the world (1 Peter 1:19-20), to go to the cross and rise again, a command he received from His Father (John 10:18). He came to do something for man that man could never do for himself (Matthew 19:26).

He first came to prepare the hearts of men so they may know who he is, that he is God (John 10:38, John 5:18, John 8:58), and see their need, their unrighteousness (Romans 3:10) and God’s righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21). Bob George continues now in the book of John where we read about different miracles Jesus performed. The major theme Bob shared is to keep our focus on Christ rather than our circumstances. He is bigger than our circumstances for he is God. Peter and the disciples were beginning to see that through the miracles that Jesus did, that Jesus is God. When God says for the people to sit down then have the people sit down. Jesus fed over five thousand people that day with two fish and five barley loaves. If God tells you to walk on water, then keep your focus on Christ. For when you don’t, you sink. Yet God in his grace picks us up and tells us, “Oh, you of little faith. Why did you doubt?” God knows all men and knows our tendency to not believe truth when we hear it. Why did God perform miracles through Jesus? What does God want us to know?

Jesus Took Away the Sins of the World

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 6 (04-10-19)

Bob George shares from John 2 about the miracle of water turned to wine. This was Jesus first miracle when he started his public ministry at age 30. Many have heard what John had spoken concerning Jesus as the Messiah. They heard him say, “behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.” When they saw this miracle there were those who believed in him. For no one can do what he did.

Bob also shared several passages in the synoptic gospels showing that Jesus had brothers and sisters. John 2:12, Matthew 13:55-56, Mark 3:31-32, John 7:1-6, and Mark 3:20-21 all record that Jesus had brothers or sisters. How important it is to stand firm in the word of God for truth and not rely on the traditions of men. When people deny what is so clearly stated and obvious in the scriptures, then what other errors are people willing to believe. That is the case with Catholic teaching that claims Mary was always a virgin and also that Mary is a co-redeemer with Jesus. That is heretical teaching. Jesus Changes Water to Wine

Classic Christianity – Book of John Part 5 (04-09-19)

Bob George continues now in the book of John, chapter 2. He paused briefly to explain that Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are referred to as the synoptic gospels. These gospels provide further details that are left out in the book of John. Each of the gospels had a different viewpoint since written to a different audience. Matthew was writing from the standpoint of legal rights to the Messianic throne. Luke provided a detailed account on the life of Christ. Mark wrote primarily to the Gentiles. John was written in 95 A.D. at the end of John’s life about the love of God.

In the first 18 verses, you read about the beginning and the word of God. Then in verse 19, you read John’s testimony.

John 1:19-20
19 Now this was John’s testimony when the Jewish leaders[c] in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. 20 He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the Messiah.”

Classic Christianity – Book of John P20 (11-26-18)

Bob George TeachingAfter a Thanksgiving message last several days, Bob George continues teaching from the book of John. In John 6, many were following Jesus to watch him heal the sick. Jesus later miraculously fed over 5000 people with five loaves and two fish, many more followed him. But why did they follow him? In previous lessons, Bob explained from scriptures that Jesus did none of these of these things on his own initiative. For Jesus purpose was much greater than the miracles. The message of eternal life is the message he came to bring, and there was work he had to complete for eternal life to be offered to men.

Bob explains how natural man focuses on the things of this world and, as believers, how easy it is to take our focus on the one who is our life, Jesus Christ. Then, when we do focus on Christ, then we miss what Jesus really came to do. Do we come to him only to meet physical needs, such as food and clothing and protection from a storm. Does one trust that he is one who is with you always in every trial and tribulation in this life? What about knowing Him and having life in His name? Have we forgotten why he came?
