The Cross Settles the Sin Issue; A Necessary Preparation for Eternal Life

Most of the world knows that history is divided into B.C., before Christ, and A.D., Anno Domini, the year of our Lord just from the calendar. A subset of the world knows historically that Jesus died, was buried and rose again. There is much information out there, but the most reliable and trustworthy information is the scriptures available to us today, the Word of God, written down through eyewitnesses of these events. Much of the world has the bible translated into their own language.

As you study the scriptures, you will discover that from God’s vantage point, history is divided into before the cross and after the cross. There was a time period in history before the cross when the Israelites were under an Old Covenant agreement with God. After the cross, that was replaced by a New Covenant agreement (Hebrews 9:16-28). Classic Christianity – A Closer Look at The Finality of The Cross P2 (08-10-21)

Jesus, God in Flesh, Sacrificed Himself Once for The Sins of The Whole World!

The Old Testament, as described in Deuteronomy, the ten commandments, is a list of commands that God commanded man to keep. In addition to those commands, all that is contained in the Law of Moses, the ceremonial laws, grain offerings and dietary laws, were required to be kept. Included in that was the sacrificing of bulls and goats, to cover sin. That was called atonement. Once a year, on the Day of Atonement, the Israelites were required to come to Jerusalem to get all their sins covered, that they had accumulated that whole year. The high priest had to sacrifice a bull or a goat brought to them by a person wanting their sins covered. Those sins were only covered until the next year, and those sacrifices would have to be performed all over again. In addition to those annual sacrifices there were also those daily sacrifices for sin as well, that would never end, and could not take away sins. Understanding The Framework for Knowing God through Jesus Christ

What does it take to understand God or the meaning of His word? Do you have to know Greek or Hebrew? Do you have to be educated? No, none of that is necessary. Do you have to have a pastor or gifted teacher to explain things to you? No, that is not needed either. That can be helpful if the pastor or teacher rightly divides the word of God and explains things from the word of God. But how would you know if he is telling the truth? One person can persuade you to believe something, and then someone else can then try to persuade you something different. And both could be wrong. How would you know? Turn to 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 and what do we read there that is needed to discern the meaning of the word of God?

Grow in Grace by the Spirit of God Revealing Truth to You Through His Word

Sometimes we all just lack confidence in the truth. We may know the truth but because we have listened to so many different preachers, we are somewhat doubtful or confused, because what we are hearing from these preachers is contradicting what we are reading from the scriptures. We have been taught by the Lord, having studied the scriptures on their own for quite some time, and have a good handle on the truth, but sometimes we get off course. We now start questioning what all these preachers are saying. Listen as Bob George explains the basic foundational truth on what salvation is, in regard to faith alone in what Jesus accomplished by His death, burial and resurrection for us, and reminding a female caller of the proper understanding of baptism, which never saves anyone, and encouraging her to continue growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, as she has been doing, and letting her know she is on the right track.

Be Sure to Enter God’s Rest Today!

As we ponder over Hebrews 3 and Hebrews 4, what is this “Sabbath rest that still remains“? What does it mean to “enter God’s rest” and “rest from their works just as God rested from His”? As we read these passages in Hebrews, it is referring back to a time in the history of the Israelites, in Numbers 13-14, where God instructed them to enter the promised land, a land flowing with milk and honey. God had promised this land to them. Everything is prepared and ready. They do not have to do any work to enjoy the fruit of the land. God also said He would destroy the enemies before them.

As we read the story, you may recall that only Joshua and Caleb later entered the promised land because they believed God. Everyone else wandered in a wilderness for forty years until all of that generation died off, for God had sworn that they shall never enter His rest because of their unbelief. Growing to Maturity in Christ

What does it mean to mature in Christ? Do we become more holy? Do we sin less? Is it about what we do? Or is it about coming to grasp what God alone accomplished for us, understanding the finality of the cross and letting Christ live His life in you and through you? Certainly it is not about trying to obey the letter of the law, for the law is what put us to death. Certainly we are to sin less, but to stop sinning completely, as if that is the goal of the Christian life, is not possible for us in our sin-indwelling flesh, where the desires of the flesh are in conflict with the desires of the Spirit. We are told in scripture to walk by the Spirit so we will not carry out the desires of the flesh. That is why we are under a New Covenant of grace now. What we could not do in the energy of our flesh, God did for us by who He is, perfect love. What we could never do, God did for us.
